My username kinda gives it away, doesn't it lol? Kaladin IS SO GOOD!

Hello and welcome!! Kaladin is hands down the most badass character in the Cosmere 🙂 which Stormlight book is your favorite?

Favorite characters are kaladin and kelsier easily and least favorite... Moash...I know basic but I love just about everyone else

I know I'm late but hello and welcome! Great choice in favorite characters👌

Hmmm, that's a really tough choice, Wayne is pretty funny and I find Kelsier's gray morality interesting.

I think I'll go with stick

Haha the classic stick. Wayne is indeed hilarious. I'm currently reading Mistborn for the second time and reevaluating what I initially thought about Kelsier's complex character. It's been interesting thus far.

  5. Shallan stealing Kaladin's boots isn't funny- and makes her seem like the spoiled, entitled lighteyes he thinks she is.

Now, later, when Shallan gets to the Shattered Plains for the first time, and she and Kaladin exchange insults and make a scene in front of a roomful of people, now that was comedy gold.

Also, Kaladin should be in a romantic relationship. Everyone saying that he shouldn't because "he's not mentally stable and needs to work on his issues", um...let me just say...Shallan?? Dalinar? They have issues that are just as serious, if not more so, and they both ended up married. And were better off because of it, IMO. Just because someone has their own demons to battle does not make them undeserving of a loving partner.

I would never! I'm all over the place with them personally. I find The Force Awakens a great fun movie. TLJ is the best best of the three in terms of how it actually carries on the OT stuff, has the best acting, and the best tension. But I fundamentally disagree with several things within the movie as well. (Mostly that Finn and Poe's plots should have been switched; Finn should have learned the differences between the Resistance and the F.O. by seeing how they sacrifice and what for, while Poe should have learned that his place isn't in the cockpit or on crazy adventures anymore but leading his people and being WITH them.) The Luke and Rey stuff was perfect.

TROS is one of my least favorite movies ever.

To be honest I watched each of them once and had no desire to watch them again. I didn't find the characters to be lovable or memorable. Except for BB-8 😄 It's just my opinion, but I think people should stop remaking everything we know and love and adding on to existing franchises and just make more original content. Sometimes they end up okay, but other times...not so much. The last three Star Wars were an example of that (again, just my opinion:).They just didn't have the magic of the other six IMO.

It doesn't get better than young Han Solo for me👌😁

  7. Breeze has always been one of my favorite characters from Mistborn! I love how you get to see as the books progress that he is actually a good person and cares about his friends, even though he pretends not to. His and Ham's dynamic is very entertaining, I love them.

My favorite magic system is definitely Feruchemy. I just feel it has so much potential  for even space age cosmere. My favorite character is probably Wayne

Ah yes...Wayne is definitely one of the great ones. I absolutely loved him in the Lost Metal.

I ate but I did give up some sleep lol! I haven't read Fairest. I can tell it's about fairytales, but is it like Cinder where there are no love triangles and it brings its own charms to the table?

Honestly, my favorite couple was probably just Kai and Cinder. The couple from Cress was super sweet, but the other two were meh to me.

Wolf and Scarlet, while it did satisfy my "Team Jacob" self back in the day, now just reminds me a tad of Reylo-style romances that are all the rage, and I'm NOT a fan. I wasn't a fan of Reylo in the Star Wars movies, and I'm not a fan of that style of romance today.

You should read it! It's a novella about Levana- her story before the rest of the books. Basically a prequel. I actually read it first. Since it was about her, I liked it the least, but would still recommend it cuz it's part of the story.

    Spoiler

I liked Kai and Cinder too, I just think Cinder's character and personality was the most bland of the four heroines. I still liked her though! Kai was great. Cress and Thorne were adorable. And yeah I get it. I didn't like Reylo either, but honestly didn't like Rey or the last three Star Wars movies...🙈 don't hate me lol. I never read Twilight, never thought I was missing anything.

Great series! I reread them every 4-5 years. My last reread was late 2022, and I ended up reading all four books in one day. It's probably my favorite non-Sanderson YA series, next to the Lotus War trilogy by Jay Kristoff...which I'm admittedly afraid to reread in case it doesn't hold up to when I read it in college...

Ok that is impressive that you read all of them in one day! Did you sleep or eat? 😂 Cuz I still sacrificed a lot of sleep to read them in ten days haha. Have you read Fairest? And who's your favorite character/couple from Lunar?

    Spoiler

I liked Scarlet's book best. I love her and Wolf 🐺❤️

  11. Literally just finished reading the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. My cousin recommended them to me and I read them because I've been trying to get her to read Brandon Sanderson.

So I devoured the whole series in ten days, which goes to show I really enjoyed them. They're modern retellings of Grimms fairy tales in a futuristic world with droids, cyborgs, and spaceships. One review about the first book, which is titled Cinder, said it was like a cross between Star Wars, the Terminator, and Cinderella. I thought that was funnily accurate. Some cheesy YA romance...cuz they're fairy tales. Overall a delightful short break. Now I'm off to reread Mistborn.

    Y'all, don't hate me plz

And I just finished Lunar Chronicles

    Highly recommended.

I just finished the Lunar Chronicles too! I really loved them, read the whole series in ten days. Did you have a favorite character from those?

I'm about to start re-reading Mistborn as well. Definitely stick with it, it will be worth it!

    Spoiler

Though yeah, I liked SA better too! I got stuck in the middle of the Well of Ascension for a while cuz I had a harder time getting into it. But it is so worth it in the end!

I can't speak for others, but I would not expect you to. I was refraining from being negative myself because I did not want to influence your opinion. So, I'll just say this in a tag, and you can decide if you want to check it out (spoiler-free biased opinion):

Shallan's storyline for Oathbringer made this book my least favorite of the series so far. As much as I love Dalinar's arc in Oathbringer, and I find the flashback chapters to be my favorite in the series - and none of that off-sets the pain I feel reading Shallan's chapters.

That's was why I said "Thus starts the Shallan shuffle" earlier - it was my attempt at a diplomatic foreshadowing that Shallan's chapters tend to be very polarizing. Those that like her, really like these sections. Others, like me, do not feel that way.

(The Shallan complaints thread did go on for four pages before being closed by mods- It has spoilers for all four books though, which is why I did not link it.) - Excerpt from my post there (only discusses sections you have already finished):

I also find Shallan to be my least favorite main character(*) in Roshar.

I prefer Shallan's chapters from TWoK and WoR. I dislike the Shallan chapters in OB. For me it basically it comes down to:

    • Early in TWoK, Shallan really evokes the type of people I knew in the Military - first time away from home (especially an oppressive/abusive home) and really just a bit unpredictable and weird; mostly because they are in the process of trying to find how they interact with others when not under the (real or perceived) social pressures of home.
    • The "Theft" subplot seems much more far fetched on the first read-through than it does on a second (and subsequent) readings after having seen the flashbacks in WoR.
      • If she had the strength to poison and strangle her father to protect Balat, then I can believe she would design such a long-shot plan to protect her family
    • In the first two books, you can almost feel the tug inside Shallan between her instinctual reactions and the learned/supressed reactions
    • When Veil is introduced, it's just an illusion and "role"

Then we get to Oathbringer - supposedly only a week (or less) after the end of WoR. Suddenly, Veil is a competing identity, then adds Radiant for, uh, why? The DID and Shallan in OB, just never felt like a logical progression from the Shallan of WoR. I actually re-read her first few OB chapters (the first read-through for OB) because I was convinced I missed something somewhere.

Basically, I find it difficult to suspend disbelief for her situation. Dissociative identity disorder is rare, and DID where all the personalities are aware of all other personalities are even more rare; so without black-outs and missing time or a personality that is cut off from the others, all of her chapters feel to me like somebody trying to pretend they have DID rather than somebody actually struggling with this illness.

Besides, BS missed the chance at a great hook of giving us a chapter or two from one of Shallan's personalities without revealing it was Shallan right away (and having "Shallan" experience the fallout from blackouts and missing time).

*Note: I say main character because I dislike Jasnah and Lirin more, but neither are main characters (yet)

I would have to agree with you,

    Spoiler

Oathbringer was my least favorite of Stormlight for the same reason. I have a hard time relating to Shallan, but I understand why those who do relate to her enjoy her journey. Chaotic as it is 😅
