  8. Alright, two things: 1) Ticket to ride is a great game. Long, but really fun 2) the movie Escape from Germany is a wonderful movie. Everyone should watch it. And if you do, Elder McOmber is my uncle 3-4 times removed (he's the one with the camera). It's a great story, watch all of it including the credits, they have cool facts in them

  9. Tomorrow is last day of teaching for me. I know all of the feelings are gonna hit after I’m done, but I feel an inkling of them now. Hence this mini rant. Y'all, you don’t know how much potential joy and potential grief you provide your teachers. Same goes for your classmates too. And yes, I know that teachers provide potential grief and joy for students too. Both sides affect one another significantly. My joy skyrockets when I see my students working and actually contributing to what we do in class, regardless of whether or not their answers are correct. When I see my students simply trying i get the dopamine. If your teachers are good teachers, and anything like the ones I’ve worked with/tried to be, they love to see you succeed, and want you to graduate. The sheer amount of behind the scenes stuff that they do to get students to graduate is insane. I know school is rough, I’ve been on both sides of the story and the roughness is constant. Both sides are just trying to make it to the finish line. So if you got a teacher who has helped you at all or done something small that makes things a little bit easier, even if it is just as simple as responding to emails quickly or giving back a graded assignment the next day, tell them thanks for me. Brad Wilcox is in our area for the next couple of days, here's some of his awesome thoughts: +They know your rules, now it's time that they know your reasons. +Without Jesus our mistakes only condemn us. With Jesus, our mistakes can educate us. +When you don't do something well, you're not very motivated to do it. +It's not just a covenant, it's a covenant relationship. +They have a right to their opinion, but it doesn't make their opinion right.

  12. Hello Everyone, Prom was last night and it was a blast. The music was meh, and we(my gf and I) didn't get to dance to our song, but the food was good and the company even better. I pulled off a perfect moonwalk and nobody saw it. It was super hot and humid, but started raining when we left and gf used my tux jacket as an umbrella and it was very cute. She also arranged a bouquet and boutenierre as well and did such an amazing job. That's all for now, but I think I'll have another one soon, with some neat news.

Does it get more iconic than that? The answer is yes. It does when Veil is here. But she's not, so I'm being iconic all by myself. ~ Stick

  25. One notable thing in the new preview chapters for SA5 is the mention that BAM was trapped into a flawless heliodor. This would indicate to me that each Unmade has a specific Polestone it is linked to to be bound into. After all, Yelig-Nar was in an amethyst and Nergaoul is in a ruby. If BAM is indeed locked in a heliodor, than I would posit that this also links her to the essence of Sinew. Oddly enough, this means that BAM would correspond to Ishar as a herald. This would raise some extremely interesting questions for book 5. In addition, we know from this WoB that you need an intrinsic connection to an Unmade to trap it in a gemstone. This above quote would imply Melishi was deeply connected to BAM.

  26. Could this be Shardic interference? I'd be willing to bet that Cultivation had something to do with this. I think the perfect gemstone is what would have immediately caused the wide-reaching effects, and being in the SR is why no one has found / released her in all this time. They are not the same but the Thrill stopped effecting the Alethi soldiers as it was put into the gemstone, not when it was shipped far away. How would she not know? She should remember when Odium first arrived on Roshar - fighting with the humans against the singers. I think this hatred of humans is specifically stemming from her Connection to all the singers of the past. Since she is 'too little' she lost a large part of her original Identity by bonding so many people. Personally I think that both Sja-anat and BAM will be thrilled with their new vessel. They are both Odius creatures at heart - their issues were with Rayse. Tarvanagian is seeming like a much more capable Odium. I bet you that Shallan draws BAM from her imprisonment in a very similar way to her drawing Pattern into reality in WOK. It will likely need to be a drawing on a scale we haven't seen before (in terms of grandeur). I think this is probably part of the reason, but both of Shallans are cryptics. She hasn't gained access to more than 2 surges with her bonds. I bet it has something to do with not warping the soul too much. Having a full on nahel bond is a lot of change to a soul, I imagine having 2 high level bonds could have some weird effects (see Shallan able to draw upon Fortune when she draws).

  29. Film idea: set in the same world as inception, but it's a person that uses inception to go into artists' (such as writers) minds in order to steal their ideas or smth like that. also another idea with this world, I wonder how it would work if someone tried to do inception on themselves because they have secrets they have hidden cuz of trauma or something (think shallan) and use that to recover the information from their subconscious.

  34. I'm interested in how you came to this decision. Obviously we don't have much in the way of evidence either way, but it makes plenty of sense to me that you don't need to be an allomancer to burn metals. Allomancy is about burning a metal to draw investiture from the Spiritual Realm and filter it using the molecular structure. But shardmetals are investiture, you don't need to draw investiture from anywhere, the imvestiture is the metal. In addition, I can't think of any mechanical reason why burning lerasium should be any different. You don't have allomancy before you burn it, it would be odd for it to behave differently than others in this case. It's difficult to truly argue this, since it requires an understanding of shardmetals that we really don't have, and is cryptic at best. So this is me taking my best stab at it with the information we do have. I think there's a lot of textual evidence at this point to disprove this specific point. Elend and Wax both burned Lerasium unconsciously, with Wax not realizing at all. Elend even burned pewter completely unconsciously without knowing he was an allomancer, and I think it's likely Wax burned metals other than steel in TLM, perhaps even Atium. Obviously intent is important in allomancy, but we've seen that it pretty much is as easy as consuming a metal and trying to burn it. I think intent is much more important in feruchemy, which certain leads to compounding being a learned skill. To this point I agree with you. I think there are pretty major mechanical differences between the two magic systems, since you are the supply of investiture in feruchemy. To this end, there is no mechanical difference between shardmetals and regular metals, the investiture is coming from the same place. I certainly agree with you here as well. In addition, I think it's possible that they did try to burn trellium, succeeded, but found that what it did wasn't particularly useful. There are a lot of different permutations of that idea, maybe it is useful but just not nearly as useful as it's hemalurgic properties. Or maybe it had an effect, but they couldn't tell what the full extent was and figured it wasn't useful, like Vin and duralumin. There are definitely a lot of reasons why we may not have heard about it. My hope is that Sandy intended for a lot of the exploration to be in Era 3, considering that Era 2 was never meant to be a proper Era to begin with. It would be very disappointing if Nalatium was never truly brought up in the text.

  36. I'm almost certain this idea has been done before, but I couldn't find anything posted here. Please note that this is a rough chart and not in any way definitive; it is a personal interpretation of how I think Shard Combination would work. All shards within a white box are a combo I see as being plausible. All Shards within a black box are double combos: doesn't count Grey boxes indicate Shards that would have extreme difficulty mixing. Pink boxes indicate Shard combos we know are canon. Green boxes indicate Shard combos that are possibly canon or could become canon. Blue boxes are not real Shards. They are my guess as to the sixteenth Shard and its respective combinations. I am aware that there may be inconsistencies with my logic. This is highly opinionated. However, I thought it would be beneficial to share it. If you have any questions, ask! If you have corrections, also ask! I am here to serve.

  39. My theory is that Kelek and co. used the oathgate in Rall Elorim to go to shadesmar and created a "rip" to the spiritual realm there and tossed Ba-Ado-Mishram inside. Possibly creating this rip was possible because Honor helped him in their last moments or that was the location he was dying which created a weakness in the fabric between realms. Could it be that the shadows in the cognitive realm act the way they do because of the "pull" to the spiritual realm? Dow we have any idea in which direction the "sun" actually is on the horizon in the cognitive realm or the location where Honor died?

  40. They are very definitively not related. M:SH It's understandable that it is confusing, because Kelsier himself confuses the Spiritual Realm and the Beyond until he ascends and learns the difference (repeatedly calling the SR "Beyond" while trapped in the Well - because he is trying to fingure it out. . . unreliable narrator). Note the WoB where Brandon says he will never answer the question about the true nature of the Beyond or the God Beyond because he believes it is up to each person (and character in-story) to answer that for themselves. However, he has confirmed that a "spiritweb corpse" persists in the SR after whatever goes to the Beyond has left. Hope that helps

  42. Here we are, in RoW. I don't know what page it is, but it is the moment when Navani is bonding the Sibling, the moment when she and the Sibling find common purpose in protecting the Knights Radiant. Honor's song welled up in her, and she sang it. The pillar began to vibrate as the Sibling sang Cultivation's song. The pure sound of Lifelight. The sound began to shift, and Navani modulated her tone, inching it closer and closer to... The two snapped into harmony. The boundless energy of Cultivation, always growing and changing, and the calm solidity of Honor - organized, structured. The vibrated together. Structure and nature. Knowledge and wonder. Mixing. The song of science itself. "That is it!" the Sibling whispered to the Rhythm of the Tower. "My song". Of this, I am fairly certain, and I am sure others can attest, but please, if I am wrong, do not let me continue in ignorance! I abhor being wrong, and would welcome correction.
