  1. Here's some rapid fire life updates: Feeling somewhat agoraphobic as of late. I'm pretty sure that's the right word. Tired. I am also that. I'm learning piano! It's going pretty well, I'm not too bad at picking up on new pieces. And then the biggest one, which some of you know already: I have a girlfriend! So that's pretty great.

  6. Tomorrow is last day of teaching for me. I know all of the feelings are gonna hit after I’m done, but I feel an inkling of them now. Hence this mini rant. Y'all, you don’t know how much potential joy and potential grief you provide your teachers. Same goes for your classmates too. And yes, I know that teachers provide potential grief and joy for students too. Both sides affect one another significantly. My joy skyrockets when I see my students working and actually contributing to what we do in class, regardless of whether or not their answers are correct. When I see my students simply trying i get the dopamine. If your teachers are good teachers, and anything like the ones I’ve worked with/tried to be, they love to see you succeed, and want you to graduate. The sheer amount of behind the scenes stuff that they do to get students to graduate is insane. I know school is rough, I’ve been on both sides of the story and the roughness is constant. Both sides are just trying to make it to the finish line. So if you got a teacher who has helped you at all or done something small that makes things a little bit easier, even if it is just as simple as responding to emails quickly or giving back a graded assignment the next day, tell them thanks for me. 8. Hey, I'm RefusesToElaborate. I'm just a little guy. Nothing too special about me, excepting of course my breathtaking talent in the kitchen. I will not feign false and unearned humility, i can cook like you wouldnt believe. I'm migrating my Cosmere discussions from Reddit to here because Reddit is just really poorly run from the top in a way that I feel encourages a lack of faith from users. I read TWoK in 2010. Really I just picked it up because I love fantasy and it was huge. Since then I've read the rest of Stormlight and 2023 was a year for me in terms of reading. My new years resolution was to read more and I went overboard, glad I stuck with it. My soon-to-be wife was actually stunned by how fast I read all these books. I bowled through Elantris, Mistborn, The Secret Projects and several other books by other authors. Currently all that's left in the cosmere for me is White Sand, finishing Mistborn Era 2 and Arcanum Unbounded. Arcanum Unbounded is taking priority and I feel ill start it next week.

  13. Okay, having read all the Secret Projects and all the (currently published at time of writing) books, I have a theory about what the Primal Commands that the Dawnshards represent, and how they tie Shardic Intents. The crux of my theory is 2-fold, that the Commands Dawnshards are related to the 4 Spiritual Components: Connection, Identity, Fortune and Investiture (or the 3 Spiritual Properties plus Investiture) and that as they were used as part of a weapon that split Adonalsium into the sixteen Shards and that these Commands helped form and shape the Shardic Intents; this is being extrapolated from the Mural that Rysn saw in Dawnshard. This makes some sense to me, as the Cosmere was made by Adonalsium using Investiture [citation needed, but I think it's a safe guess] and these 4 Commands. From this, I think the 4 Dawnshards are: Connect (This is the one that Hoid and Sigzil held and relates to Connection) - You can't harm living things, as they have Connection, since you'd be destroying Connection instead of forming it and binding things/creatures together. This is also reinforced by the fact that holding this Dawnshard makes you connected to everything in the Cosmere and I postulate that skipping works by Sigzil rewriting his Physical Connection to the Planet/Location in Space - I am unsure how Hoid has such a strong connection to Fortune as I don't think he holds the Fortune Dawnshard, but that could be because he changed his Connection to Fortune, or it could be related to his past while Adonalsium was still alive. Control (Relates to Fortune) - Since seeing how things move and work on a Spiritual and Axi level (so both in very granular Time and Space) probably allows for insanely fine and accurate control of Investiture and relates to Future Sight. Change (Relates to Investiture) - As Investiture wants to change from Potential to Kinetic, it wants to Change itself from one state into another. This is also reinforced by the idea that Rysn was explicitly told to not learn any Invested Art and that this is likely the Dawnshard which destroyed Ashyn. Also, as explained by Sigzil, that a creature holding a lot of Investiture - like the Chared and a being that is holding a lot of Stormlight - wants to act/change/do things. I think the reason that someone with a lot of Breaths don't have the same compulsion to act/change/do things is because Breaths are Innate Investiture and not Potential like Stormlight is. Capacity (Relates to Identity) - This most likely provided creatures with Identity when Adonalsium was creating the Cosmere. This one might be semi-self aware, like a Spren, and I think is likely the one that Sanderson mentioned is different from the others, as the other Dawnshards just have self-preservation as we learnt in "The Sunlit Man". Applying these to Shards, my idea is that opposite Intents cause tension between Shards and that these are related to the corresponding different Dawnshards that created/split them and the Spiritual Attributes/Primal Commands that Dawnshards themselves represent. This would also be why some Shards are better at Future Sight, for example, and why some have differing abilities/relate to the Commands used to control Investiture within their corresponding magic systems. (I don't think that all of these manifest directly, but sometimes they do like how Honor bound Odium to the Roshar System as he is closely tied to Connection and also require the need to form a Connection with a Spren to work.) I assign each Shard 2 different Dawnshards/Primal Commands that they are related to - a base one related to which direct Dawnshard they are most directly related to and then a secondary Intent/Dawnshard/Primal Command/Spiritual Attribute. Shardic Intents: Connect (Connection/Binding People/Not Harming Others) (Opposite of Change) Devotion : Capacity (At tension with Dominion, yet their powers work together as the Dor - so together they have opposite primal Intents/Commands. Devotion and Odium can also be argued to be opposite to each other.) Preservation : Connect (Opposite of Ruin and wants to keep everything the same.) Honor : Control (Was Married to Cultivation, and is said to uphold oaths and agreements, and to bind things together.) Mercy : Change (Not much is known about their intent, but Harmony (pure Connection and Change) became troubled by Mercy as a result of their exchange.) Change (Investiture/Entropy/Growth/Action) (Opposite of Connect) Ruin : Change (Opposite of Preservation and the manifestation of Entropy.) Cultivation : Control (Has good Future Sight, Cultivation's intent as a Shard appears to be related to transformation. In her own view, on the other hand, she wishes to grow things and people, and prune them if need be, to shape them in a desired form, even if she accepts that there will always be a degree of uncertainty.) Invention : Capacity (After that initial contact, Harmony was unable to locate Invention again - so maybe wants to be free and by itself?) Virtuosity : Connect (Virtuosity's Intent concerns artistic intent, and artistic talent, and artistic appreciation. It is said in Yumi that Art needs an Audience.) Control (Fortune/Power) (Opposite of Capacity) Odium : Change (Has good Future Sight, wants to be the only God in the Cosmere, said to be the vengeful anger of God. Opposite of Devotion.) Dominion : Control (At Tension with Devotion, Dominion's focus was probably related to amassing and maintaining control over others. Their powers, with Devotion, work together as the Dor - makes sense as they have opposite base Intents/Primal commands.) Wisdom/Prudence : Capacity (Can foresee the Future very well, wants to be left alone and away from the coming conflicts. Antagonistic to Hoid (who would have picked up Endowment if they were to hold a Shard at the Shattering), so makes sense that they have opposite base Intents.) Valor : Capacity (Wants to help Hoid, understands the issue which Odium shows, but very little is known about them yet.) Capacity (Identity/Self Determination) (Opposite of Control) Endowment : Control (Their Intent is not entirely clear; it's likely related to bestowing gifts or talents upon others. They are able to ignore their Intent somewhat, as they don't provide Hoid with help (which would be a form of Endowment); but this could be because of disagreements between Hoid and Edgli, related to the differing Intents that she and the Dawnshard that Hoid holds are or because Capacity Intent allows for some amount of self-determination. But there are certain things they are looking for when endowing Divine Breaths. They also have some capacity to perceive the future and bestow those visions upon others, so likely has some advanced Connection to Fortune.) Autonomy : Capacity (Autonomy wants to remain alone; she does not wish to be corrupted by other Shards and thinks that all Shards are better off on their own. Her philosophy is very much focused on the survival of the fittest. Under Autonomy's world order, one must earn their right to keep existing, so it makes sense that they are the purest form of Identity.) Ambition : Connect (Disliked by Endowment, but unsure if that is related to their opposite Intents or a disagreement between the Vessels.) Whimsy : Change (Not much is known, but they are said to be not congruous with intense planning and ambitions. It is also not calculating nor deliberate, so no relation to Control. Likely either Connect or Change.) All the information in brackets is from the Coppermind and WoB's. I am open to some of these being changed as we do know very little about most of these Shards, but we do know that some are truly opposite, like Ruin and Preservation and Devotion and Odium. Please let me know if you have any different ideas or modifications of this idea, but I am fairly confident of the broad strokes of this theory having read "The Sunlit Man" and "Dawnshard".

  17. Bought and started reading my first Sanderson book (tWoK) seven years ago on the 16th. Which is. Wild. I was in sixth grade at the time so it's been a part of my life while I've been growing up and just. Worked towards becoming me. Still got a ways to go but I'm going to assume you guys know what I mean. I don't think the Cosmere will ever have as big a role in my life as it has in the past. This site is where I connected with so many of my current friends, it got me into reading adult fantasy and not just YA and middle grade, it helped me pursue writing. Those things were instrumental in who I am now. I'll be honest, I don't like a lot of Brandon's newer stuff as much as the older things like Elantris and The Way of Kings and era one. I still consider The Way of Kings one of my top three favorite books. I was at Dragonsteel in November and that was incredible, but mostly for the people. I love the stories and the characters but there are stories and characters I love more. I wish I could've told lil twelve year old Tesh that Dragonsteel was a thing that would one day exist and that you'd be able to go and hang out with some of your favorite people in the world. It's nearly 1am and my brain isn't overly coherent. But these books have played an incredibly important role in who I am now, and that means that they'll always be a part of me. And part of that is broadening my horizons in terms of what I enjoy reading, and like I've moved beyond things like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, I'm moving onto new things now. I still regularly reread Percy Jackson, and I still own more Brandon books than books by any other author, so they're far from left behind. But I'm still moving forward. Like I never considered myself a fan of horror, but Neil Gaiman is my top author this year by a lot and I've fallen absolutely head over heels for Sandman. I also never thought I'd read this many comics! I guess another thing is that I've found books that showcase the experiences of more people than Brandon's. I use Storygraph to track what I read (BECAUSE I LIKE GRAPHS) and last year my second to top genre (behind fantasy) was LGBTQ+. None of Brandon's books would fall into that category (yet!). But as Brandon does get better at inclusivity, I'm finding myself liking his writing (and honestly just hard, epic fantasy in general) less. It's kinda hard acknowledging that even to myself because of that huge impact they've had on me, but that's the truth of the matter. And it's okay. Just unfortunate that I moved to Utah after the peak of my obsession. TL;DR Brandon's books have fundamentally changed me as a person, and introduced me to fandom and therefore to my best friends in the world. I'm never going to discount that, but I've also changed a lot as a reader and a person and I've found a lot of other things that I enjoy more than a lot of his more recent work. I did not mean for that to be so long and my brain isn't working anywhere near well enough to reread that for coherency, so ENJOY! And my Shardiversary is next month, and I'm not really active enough on here anymore to totally justify doing those. So the one next month may be my last one, who knows. Oh I can't forget to do the mental health awareness month post though. If I sent this on Discord it would reach a more relevant audience but it's going here for old times sake. Anyways, see ya! I'll be back on the 1st (probably) and the 17th!

  19. Hey, I want to point out something awkward and annoying. The combination of two shardic intents may be up to the shardbearers interpretation. I believe if young Dalinar received both those shards, he may name himself War, or Conquest. But today, he may name it something like Judgement or Prejudice or Crusade.

  25. I'm almost certain this idea has been done before, but I couldn't find anything posted here. Please note that this is a rough chart and not in any way definitive; it is a personal interpretation of how I think Shard Combination would work. All shards within a white box are a combo I see as being plausible. All Shards within a black box are double combos: doesn't count Grey boxes indicate Shards that would have extreme difficulty mixing. Pink boxes indicate Shard combos we know are canon. Green boxes indicate Shard combos that are possibly canon or could become canon. Blue boxes are not real Shards. They are my guess as to the sixteenth Shard and its respective combinations. I am aware that there may be inconsistencies with my logic. This is highly opinionated. However, I thought it would be beneficial to share it. If you have any questions, ask! If you have corrections, also ask! I am here to serve.

  28. Thaidakar's head nodded with the dream. He'd almost forgotten. The room was darkness to him, masked in red and black. Shadows threw the tables and stools into distorted shapes. Voices clawed their way into his ears and threatened his peace. Thaidakar ignored them. The fell liquid clambered down his t throat in repetition. He didn't feel it anymore. Why didn't he feel it anymore? His hand moved outside of conscious thought, bringing the cup to his lips every second, every moment. Maybe this time it would drown out the pain. The cup fell to the ground and each piece embedded itself into the walls. Liquid sprayed forth, a red fire growing on each droplet. The empty cask of a man fell to the ground, the shards stabbing into his back. What remained was a shadow, a remnant. And he would always be that. He was the fossilized remains of what had once been a man who could feel. Watching from a corner in the room, a small thing with feathers smiled with satisfaction. "There you are, chosen one," it whispered. It tapped a small ring on its leg and the holographic form of the king met its eyes. "He is here." "Good," Chickeee responded, "I will come." The chicken drew its shimmering dagger and waited, watching the thing on the ground. It had taken many ages of mortals to find him, but today they would kill him. Finally. Satisfaction was a cruel delight. To Thaidakar, there was nothing but the nightmares which plagued him. A repeated motion of ancient evils in his mind. He didn't see the chicken on the barrel. He didn't notice when one of the walls burst open, free to the darkness of a narrow cavern. And, he didn't see it when a hulking mass of a thing entered the room, ripping apart the roof with its enormous helmet. King Chickeee in his mechanical suit, an arrogantly placed crown on his head, laughed at the pathetic coward on the ground, "This is the chosen one?" The voice in his mind gave affirmation. "You should have chosen better," said Chickeee, spikes extended from his armored gauntlets. "I will enjoy killing him." Tears dripped from Thaidakar's eyes, sinking into the cursed ground next to the burning liquor. Yet, even as he fell into the pits of torture, something grew in him. A lust for... for what? Chickeee raised his mechanical arms and swung down to end Thaidakar's life once and for all. He laughed, "Goodbye, chosen one!" Metal touched Thaidakar's back, seeking their first kill. Yet, before they could, their target was gone. Instead, the mech was blown apart and the king's neck was in the now levitating Thaidakar's hands. His eyes were closed, yet they couldn't cease the glowing read tears from seeping down. Crimson flames with black hearts grew around Thaidakar as he raised King Chickee, who was scrambling for breath, higher into the air. Chickeee gasped, "Fr-free m-me..." "You want forgiveness? Get religion." *cough* I mean- There was no reply, only the "chosen one's" hand tightened. Chickeee begged, pleaded. Soon he was quiet. The chicken in the corner rushed at Thaidakar. Thaidakar turned, blasted the chicken in the heart with the fires of grief. The lifeless body of Chickeee slid to the ground. The chicken priest's dagger flew at Thaidakar, yet it quickly slowed to a stop in front of him, inches away from his eye. Thaidakar touched it on the tip and it crumpled, falling to the ground. He turned to the broken room around him and he roared. The wood, rock and steel burst into flames, falling apart. Thaidakar looked up to the ceiling, a sudden desire for light growing in him. If they were all dead, so be it. And if they weren't, so be it. And he found, to his surprise, that he didn't care either way. Pure energy blasted through his eyes, blasting a hole in the roof, turning the rock to slag. Thaidakar, though as a bullet, soared up, going higher and higher through layers of existence until, finally... The dark red flames were the first thing that appeared in the lobby of the clinic, roaring up from the ground and blasting a man sized whole in the flooring. Soon followed Thaidakar, levitating with his hands at his sides, eyes pure crimson, his locks of hair flowing freely in flight about him as a crown adorned with flames. It was good to be back.

  30. We don't have any WoB on that, but that's a popular theory. It all boils down to the way Sazed Ascended, when he was able to merge those Shards but keep them separate. And I believe that separation is what causes him all those problems. HoA ch 82: I believe that if Sazed were to properly merge those Shards, he would not be Harmony anymore (as it requires two separate entities), but something like Creation - one power, one Intnet. That would 100% be a RAFO.

She released him, but with force, backing off after *trying to wrench his arm back and push him down. It was then that she spun back. "Don't be sorry." There was fire in Del's eyes. "I don't know you." Jane pulled out her daggers and crouched a little. Someone is killing my family. And they thought I was dead. Prove them wrong or let them win. I hate being proved wrong. I need to win. 3 years ago I killed my uncle, aunt, and four year old sister, Lily Isa Rae. Lily was supposed to be the only one to survive. I killed her, accidentally, trying to murder Delilah Auburn Rae, the eldest Rae sibling who was, at the time, 18. I was 13. I swore never to make that mistake again. Lily was supposed to be the only one to survive. A few weeks ago, Delilah Auburn Rae left mysteriously because one of her connections was in dire need of her, miles away. The letter was fabricated by, yes, myself. Once she reached the caravan, ten mercenaries stabbed her to death on the third night. It wouldn't bring Lily Isa Rae back. Before chosen for the hunger games, Hestia Sylvie Rae and Pheonix Yin Rae died at 19 and 18, respectively, due to a "crash." That wasn't an accident. It wasn't a mistake. They, too, were murdered. Now there were only two Rae children left. Aspen Leo Rae. And the murderer: Jane Cora Rae.

  36. What follows is not what I believe will happen in Wind & Truth, here I intend to outline what I believe to be the most likely worst case scenario. The Empire Strikes Back ending for Wind and Truth. Pooling all my knowledge about The Cosmere and throwing a massive wrench in the works, applying Murphy's Law to Roshar. I have not read any preview chapters because I'm a big brain Stoneward and have no need to provide a basis for my theories. Let's start with Odiums loophole. The terms that I believe are important are laid out as follows: * Two willing champions selected * They meet atop Urithuru * Fight to the death * Should Dalinars champion win, all Odium-motivated hostility ceases between Singers and Humans, Alethkar and Herdaz are returned to the coalition of Urithiru, and Odium remains bound to Roshar * Should Odiums' champion win, hostilities still cease, Odium retains his territory, and Dalinar becomes a fused for Odium A lot of people seem to believe Odiums loophole involves stopping the fight by putting in a champion that the opponent will refuse to kill, or putting an immortal in the ring. I will not argue that this is nog compelling, however it's not Darkest Timeline. In my Darkest Timeline, Odiums loophole is to win and then force Fused Dalinar through such a heinous order that he refuses to do it, violating the contract and thus negating the clause binding him to the Rosharan system. It is for this reason I believe Odiums champion will be El, an El who swallowed the stone containing Yelig Nar. Now as for Dalinars champion? I believe it will be Szeth. I believe Dalinar already admits this will not be a simple duel, surges will be important. I believe Szeth will bond four honorblades in Shinovar, then upon opening the Shin oathgate and returning to Urithiru will say he only needs a blade with Tension to have all surges. He will either get Talns blade from wherever Hoid stashed it, or Ishars because Dalinar thinks it would possibly maybe perhaps be wise to disarm an active beligerent with mental health issues but not so unwise to arm an active ally with mental health issues. And Szeth-Son-Neturo will wear a farmers robe on the day he is to kill a champion because I'm catching a lot of coat of many colours symbolism from Szeth. He will still die, though. Now, Darkest Timeline for other characters. Shallan is pretty clearly foreshadowed as a worldhopper. I believe at some point Adolin will die, along with her brothers, probably a Ghostblood attack. This will free her from any kind of responsibility she feels on Roshar and maybe induce a desire to get away from the planet where everything she ever cared about died and find where these Ghostbloods are at. Then she's gonna go hunting. The Cosmere will be a lot more empty when Shallan is done. She'll at least be a problem the Ghostbloods feel a deep need to solve. Kaladin. Well, what's the most realistic Darkest Timeline for him? He dies? No. Moash will attack Kaladin and Szeth in Shinovar, during this attack Kaladin will swear his final ideal. "I accept that I need to be protected." Moash swings for him with the anti-stormlight dagger, and Syl dives in front of it. She is killed, and Kaladin is proved right that a lighteyes would take his power from him. Szeth manages to kill Moash and then they have a Batman/Superman conversation about how "Wow if my life had been different I would have turned out just like you." This conversation is what inspires Szeth to get all surges from the Hoborblades and volunteer as champion. Kaladin instead serves the Windrunners as a battlefield medic, only feeling useful when his friends are low on stormlight, and has to watch in agony as everyone from Bridge Four takes to the skies without him. Another honorspren will attempt to bond him and he will firmly but politely ask it to leave. Jasnah doesn't have a lot of personal stakes for the Darkest Timeline. She breaks up with Hoid, I guess. She's already a queen in exile, it can't get much worse for her outside of that. Renarin, separated from Rlain as he's with the New Listeners. Adolin dead. Dalinar as a Fused. He's left to lead the Kholin Highprincedom, and he's storming awful at it. Boy's not cut out for Alethi politics, he's gentle, his mind tends to wander, and his fashion sense is whack. The New Listeners and Willshapers, actually kind of looking to them as a little immune to a lot of my Darkest Timeline nonsense. The worst "real" scenario I can see for them is being discovered by one side or another and culturally enriched (read: forcibly assimilated.) Hoid: Everything is stormed. Just as planned. And the Darkest Timine for Dalinar. Upon losing the Contest of Champions, Odium takes him as a Fused. This makes the Stormfather a deadeye, Odiums last "Storm you" to Honour. The consequence of this will be the Highstorm stops moving. Roshar will have an ever-stationary storm like Jupiter. It will be in a place that's near impossible to reach, therefore the Tower will be the only source of Stormlight. Cultivation will have one of two moods in response to this. "Oh rust." Or "Just as planned." Possibly both. Odium eventually breaks Dalinar by forcing him to do something. Massacring innocents. Dalinar refuses and Odiums imprisonment on Roshar is broken. He's now free to save the whole cosmere, whether they need it or not. And he'll do this by eliminating all other Shards. I will now wait patiently for Wind and Truth, to see how Dark the Rimeline is and hope that my Timeline is the Darkest Timeline that conforms to realistically where the series is going

  37. Ahhh. That is a clever sidestep from Sanderson and Harmony. Very interesting. Hmmm. I don't mean to turn this into a rant but Sazed's Connection to Ruin is definitely something I wanna flesh out in fanfic. It feels like wasted potential especially now that Harmony is repressing Hemalurgy instead of embracing it. It's not noticeable or nuanced enough, especially since Ruin's existence and magic shouldn't still be in this weird, Morgoth-esque framework. It feels very... weak compared to the experiences of Wax or Kelsier. The weird thing is Preservation can't whisper to minds who are unstable. Kelsier could bridge the gap w/ Connection because the Vessel was Connected to Spook. Harmony communicated with Wax because Wax's soul/idea/whatever was in the Cognitive Realm. That all makes sense. I believe the prophecies were purposely set up as vague to hide layers from Ruin and his futuresight. As you said, the sign of 16 meant he planned for Ruin to change the Mists. His manipulations... I guess that could be part of the Batman Gambit. After all he showed Kelsier visions of them. How is Ruin's tendency to gloat part of all this? I too find it more likely Elend was seeing only a few possibilities. Though tbf even if he did see "thousands upon thousands" of possibilities, Vin wasn't experiencing time in the same way as Elend. Vin also might've been seeing many more possibilities than Elend did. I'm gonna speculate that a mortal seeing into a Shard's future, even if they're hugely connected to the Shard or Vessel, is far more cloudy than the opposite. I'm also gonna speculate that Vessel-Vin and Ruin's futuresight was a passive power, not something that needs to be activated like a magic system. I say this because when Vessel-Kelsier saw into the future it was worded like something he was just "doing" throughout the Urteau incident, not something he activated at a specific moment. The same idea seems to apply to Fuzz seeing into Kelsier's future. It did improve my opinion of Era 1. Though I'm still not a fan of Ruin's Intent being the fundamental opposite to stasis. I've warmed up to the Intent itself but not... that. Or the idea Ruin was so way too woefully behind Preservation in the 4D chess game. I might end up writing a fanfic where Ruin is the god of chaos lmao. With a bit of a roleswap where Ruin is the protagonist or good guy with The Plan, or at least much smarter than canon. The Lost Metal is next. ... I still don't get it. It's vague and the army of Mistings were easily more fragile than creating an army of Mistborn. Plus, the Mists already Snapped people into regular Mistings, so at least that bunch could've been Mistborn while the rest were atium Mistings. But I guess that's why it was a 'fragile distant maybe." I guess Shards make plans completely different than us mortals. Well... this is awkward. But tbf it’s a bit fuzzy since it was long before we knew of Kelsier’s time as Preservation. There might be discrepancies between how Vin learned of the plan VS how modern Brandon might write for a new Vessel. If modern Sando wrote Vin's Ascension, he would've wrote out that Vin learned Leras' plan for atium Mistings the moment she saw/learned these things - Rashek's storage caverns and strategies to hide atium, his use of the Well, Ruin's power hidden in atium, and the Pits of Hathsin themselves. Remember that modern Brandon wrote out that Kelsier - the very unfitting Vessel - learned Leras' plan the moment Ruin uttered the word "atium." Kelsier, who wasn't even trying to delve into the "atium" thing unlike Vin. Leras' ultimate goal - likely his interpretation of Preservation - was not to maintain the status quo. It was to protect Scadrial. If he wanted to maintain the status quo, Scadrial wouldn't have reached early industrial tech before Rashek's Ascension. I feel like you're ignoring a lot of things. The Plan wasn't to keep the prison active. The Plan was to thread towards a human who can Ascend to both Preservation and Ruin. And even though Leras lost his mind over millennia, he still needed to actively act. He was still cognitive enough to hear all thoughts, know all of Ruin's manipulations of minds, and talk to all passing souls in the Cognitive Realm. Kelsier's Survival was too much of an abnormality to just be a happy accident. You're seriously telling me no one in the history of Scadrial wanted to live as much as Kelsier or be revived? We should be seeing Cognitive Shadows and Survives handed out like candy, if what Leras did to Kelsier was just an "accident." I'm also not convinced Leras immediately became the impotent Fuzz from SH. Impotent compared to Leras before the imprisonment, but not that impotent. And how can there be the Hero without any circumstances for the Hero to arise? How can there be the Hero or atium Misting army if there's a tyrant more powerful than the Hero, or if atium isn't well known and sought out? I believe those were the roles of Rashek and his death, even if Fuzz didn't remember. I also think Leras wanted Ruin to be released, eventually. How can the Hero of Ages use both Shards if the capabilities of one are still restricted? I agree that The Plan can generally be described as a hope. I don't think Preservation specifically planned for Vin and Sazed but some things in the plan feel too precise for Leras to just be picking anyone each cycle. Vin, Rashek, and Alendi didn't hold the future of the entire world on their arms. They weren't so intricately connected to the Terris people, and their struggles, and their wishes. And remember, Scadrians don't understand both Shards just because they're made of both Investitures. It's why Sazed is so notable among the Terris people. Vin till the moment of her death saw Ruin as nothing more than a force of death and destruction. Even Kelsier saw Ruin as this. I think Leras knew Rashek or Alendi weren't self-sacrificial the way Vin could be. No offense, but I think I would prefer to ignore those WoBs about Alendi. They're very early in Brandon's career and there's nothing in-story that suggests Leras was grooming Alendi to take the Shard. As for Rashek being the Hero of Ages.... just no. In my opinion. I think Brandon has been very clear that Sazed is the Hero of Ages. Not Vin, or Alendi, or Rashek, or Kelsier. It is Sazed. I think Leras had enough knowledge of their thoughts, Connections, and futures to know how the trajectory of their lives' could play into Connections to both Shards. You're ignoring that Leras actively facilitated the plan throughout human history i.e. hid gems in all religions for the Hero. He didn't just do some things before the imprisonment and dipped. Remember this is the same guy who creates Cognitive holograms to communicate to every dying soul in the Cognitive Realm.

  41. Well, another primary difference for Scadrial, is when he was naming the magic systems, he specifically sought out science-based linguistics because Scadrial is the Cosmere world about seeing how Science and History change with the magic system over time (originally - Fantasy Trilogy, Urban Fantasy, Space Opera). You can see it in the WoB about Naming Feruchemy: So, while most arts* are "named" by "something <person> does" - these were named to help imply how the Scientific Method will be portrayed in the world's understanding of the magic. I say most, because one of your examples - Awakening - is not actually the name for that art, it's only one aspect of BioChroma (more akin to Steel Pushing as one aspect of Allomancy), which also includes the Heightenings, Divine Breath, BioChromatic Entities (some of which are Awakened), etc. However, "Awakening" itself (and the state of being "Awakened") is becoming a Cosmere world-generic term for anything Awakened to Sapience or Sentience through Investiture - even when no Breath was involved at all (likely seen TLM, Tress, Yumi, TSM - Where Yumi is confirmed as not-BioChroma; and the other three would be possible by means other than BioChroma - but are not yet confirmed for or against).

  43. This definitely sounds like something she would do, or at least have several different plans for Scadrial. I wouldn't be surprised if she has plans for the malwish as well. The stagnation of society in Northern Scadrial is definitely going to be extremely important in the future. Especially when we consider the rapid growth of malwish technology. Slight spoilers for SP4/5

  44. Who are you calling different? *I've done this joke so many times.* I think that those Windspren yanked from Shadesmar when he swore each ideal, as the groups of them seem to get bigger and then at 4th there was enough of them to form plate. Just a theory, no actual evidence.

  45. As a member myself, I would say that the concept of becoming gods in Elantris is very similar to transfiguration in the scriptures. The fact that a person can become an elantrian overnight or “in the twinkling of an eye” sounds like it came from Brandon’s background. But it may just be one of those subconscious references.

  46. Well... for many things we know about Cosmere humans it feels like they would largely be stubs leading into other topics because many of the relevant points emphasize how they are different or distinct from IRL humans. Cosmere humans are not exactly like IRL humans and we can explain those distinctions beyond ancestry, though as we learn things, we can certainly try to fill out what @Treamayne laid out for heritages. Things we know: Humans were present before the Shattering on Yolen. Most if not all humans seen are descended from or designed off of the Yolish template. (link into Yolen and the Shattering, source M:SH) Humans have innate Investiture not found in IRL humans and can accumulate greater levels of innate Investiture into descendants developing on highly Invested planets. The example is how Rosharans with ambient Stormlight are much less susceptible to diseases when compared to the IRL counterpart. (link into Investiture?, WoB on common cold spreading to Roshar, I think) Humans, like most things, exist within the Three Realms, the Physical Realm, Cognitive Realm, and Spiritual Realm. When a human dies, ties to the PR are broken, the mind persist for a short time in the CR before passing into The Beyond unless extenuating circumstances intervene. (link into Realmatic Theory, source M:SH) The cognitive aspect of an immediately deceased human can be used as a template for Investiture to create a Cognitive Shadow, see Cognitive Shadows, Returned, Shades, etc. All humans have different and distinctly unique Spiritual Identities, including identical twins. This is intrinsic to birth in the Cosmere. As part of this, humans have lifespan tied to their spiritual aspect, as we see when the attribute of Age is altered by feruchemy. This Age dictates when a person should naturally decay or die with TLR aging dramatically due to a forcibly altered Spiritual Age that snapped back when he lost his Atiumminds. (link into Identity, feruchemy, or maybe spiritwebs, WoB on mechanism of death of TLR. A bit of speculation, but there's some disturbing ramifications surrounding the mechanism of death for TLR) Humans carry sDNA in addition to typical DNA. Invested attributes are passed on via sDNA that obeys different rules from the standard, including Allomancy, Feruchemy, Sand Mastery, and probably whatever makes a Threnodite become a Shade. (link into sDNA if we have a page for it or whatever is closest) Humans can naturally and natively become vessels of Shards of Adonalsium. They also can bond Cognitive beings of Investiture via the Nahel Bond such as spren or Seons gaining access to Invested abilities. (link into Shards, Nahel Bond) Humans can interbreed with nonhumans creating hybrid progeny capable of procreation, notably the Horneaters and Herdazians of Roshar have both Human and Singer ancestry. (I don't know if we have any other confirmed cases, be it dragons who have human forms or Sho Del, WoB on Horneater and Herdazian heritage) For some reason, dragons spend a portion of their lives in the form of a human. (link to dragon page etc. There's probably more that could go here, but what we have here is longer than some pages. I was just making a bullet point list without trying to format it for the Coppermind, but we can at least discuss if a compilation of this information is worth making a page for. It's not obvious at first glance, but Cosmere Humans are significantly different from IRL Humans in ways that are not necessarily intuitive or expected for someone new to the Cosmere particularly in how they interact with the magic and realmatics. Sorry I didn't grab any actual WoBs, but I'm just taking a break from a college final project to think about something easier.
