Another clash between @Cash67 and @Wierdo!!! Wierdo charges in to press the advantage! Cash hangs back and fights defensively, baiting Wierdo to overextend. Cash feints to the left but Wierdo doesn't fall for it! Wierdo steps in close to deliver a killing blow but Cash skewers Wierdo, knocking him backwards! Both sides have drawn blood and it's anyone's fight now! Cash has wounded Wierdo. Next round! Possibly the last round!

Not much of a massive idea, but I just realized how well the Metallic Arts fit their Shard's respective Intents in regard to their effects; Preservation's Investiture doesn't change a person at their core (unless the fundamental nature of Investiture as a whole overrides it, such as with Savantism), instead adding power to them. Pewter Allomancy, for example, makes you stronger and faster, but your actual physique is preserved. Hemalurgy ruins the practitioner a little bit, changing and warping them with the more spikes they bear. Steel Inquisitors are physiologically distinct from humans after the number of spikes they have, and their Spiritwebs begin to fray despite their power. Feruchemy is more like Harmony. It changes the practitioner, such as when a Brute Taps strength (or possibly altering a Windwisperer's sensory organs?) they actually change their muscle mass, though what they are at their core is untouched; they can only Store what they've already got. I don't think that this necessarily fits every magic system, but for these three in particular, it's so neat to still pick up on the occasional connection.

I don’t think people will understand how much a small compliment can mean to people. I need to be less afraid to give them. Because if it means a lot to me then it’s probably the same for others.

Hey everyone, nice to meet you! I'm Jacob and I'm based out of Los Angeles. Film is my passion - I work in marketing at a large studio - but in my spare time I am an avid reader and gamer. Despite the many fantasy and sci-fi books I've read, nothing has captured me like the Cosmere. I've wanted to join the Shard for quite a while, but was waiting until I was fully caught up to start participating. So anyway, I can't wait to dive into conversations with everyone here (and hopefully make some friends ). I'll also be at Dragonsteel in December, so I'm excited to meet people there, as well!!

I looked at all the major times she summons a blade and there is nothing obvious. Chana's blade has a huge hole in the center, but nothing like that is described although sometimes it's simply described a "silvery" shardblade which is all of them. Yeah I was thinking about the heartbeat thing. When she kills Tyn in WoR Ch. 34 she thinks to herself she doesn't need 10 heartbeats, but then thinks she needs more time. The blade she draws is described as silvery which is not helpful. She could simply be thinking of how Testament used to not need a heartbeat count but now does. In the chasm in Ch. 72 it's pretty clearly Pattern, it has a pattern on it that glows in the dark both Shallan and Kaladin remark on it. Kaladin touches it and it doesn't scream like a dead eyed blade. Nothing about a big hole in the center. When she activates the Oathgate in Ch. 86 she calls pattern by name right before the blade appears. It's probably him. In OB and RoW she is almost always undercover or in Shadesmar where the spren blades can't be summoned and she never summons a third blade. Adolin teaches her some of the sword forms early in OB but we don't get much of a description of her blade there. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if she had the honorblade. Even some her "Truths" are lies like the big reveal that she killed her mother has Shallan talking to Pattern as if he was the blade there. Is her name even Shallan? Can't trust her.

so I've been working on the same thing in my pottery class for over 2 weeks now and it got out of the kiln today and I had just gone and picked it up during my lunch I've made it very clear that I do not want anyone touching it at all and yet someone in my chemistry class decided it would be a good idea to come up and pick it up I'm literally so annoyed right now like I feel like nobody knows what the word "no" means its seriously not that hard to comprehend the project is fine, I'll post pictures in a bit, but I'm so annoyed about this

ABSOLUTELY YES- I just imagine it as a maze kind of, and there are some places I've visited, and others I really havent.

I'd lean towards expressed more profoundly and altered a bit, but still recognizably the same resonance (i.e. Windrunner who is Savant of Adhesion might have extra tight-nit group of squires, whereas Windrunner who is Savant of Gravitation would attract more people to their orbit than usual, but that 'surpluss' would also leave more easily). Possibly. The original idea of resonance stems from constructive interference, so greater peak of wave (more power) more pronounced resonance. Though remember that Resonances are more 'metaphysical' than direct powers, so the greater power would not be necessarily that noticeable. I'd say this is similar to effect Savantism would have, so yes. Different means, but similar outcome.

We all know the feeling: You're a fan of a niche community or fanbase and struggle to find people that share your interest. Then, you do find them, and you're happy, because people get your references! (The 17th Shard is like this. We're all Sanderfans here, Cosmerenaughts of the highest order. (At least I hope.) We were sad and lonely because people wouldn't listen to us blab about hunormous fantasy tomes, until we found this little online community.) So, you're happy, because you've found your people. But then, you realize: none of the people in this group get any of my references to this other group. Which is sad. You seem like you're a part of both worlds, and then part of a new world in the middle; but even if you have people in the worlds on either side, there is no one who's a part of that little double-fandom, caught in the middle of your various interests. This thread is for you to post memes, jokes, references, and other things that seem like no one else in the world understands except for you. This thread is for confusing people. This thread is for getting a peek at what your friends are interested in that they've never talked about before. Today was Senior Skip Day for my Science Focus Program. So I went to my first two classes at my home high school, then went to a restaurant for brunch with the rest of the seniors, got some mother's day stuff in secret, and then came home and procrastinated for hours did some homework. Which is nice. I needed a break. As an aside, don't you hate it when you have an idea for a joke or a meme that references a connection between two different stories or aspects of your life...and you are literally the only person you know who has enough knowledge of both of those things to get the joke? I've considered making a thread titled "references only you understand" in FGaRS so people can post their random memes and jokes and confuse everyone else. Or somehow find someone who does get your obscure references after all. Maybe. ... Was this SU going anywhere? Is it necessary to post this? Am I still sleep deprived? Probably. Ah well.

So, one way or another, this duel ends the game. I think I can just outright say that. Since it's literally forced by the mechanics of the game + the fact that there's 4 non-Returned players alive + the fact that the game hasn't already ended. It is impossible in this game-state for it to not be a 2v2 with the next death ending the game one way or another. I'm not revealing any secrets about the game state. (Maybe you already put all this together on your own in which case don't mind me. ) Bearing that in mind. I've made a decision. I will delay the end of the this cycle until the duel can finish properly. Seeing as we've started down this course, it seems like we may as well carry it out, come what may. I have a reasonable fallback in mind in case that doesn't work for some reason, but, I think we will make it work. TL;DR the duel must go on

Thanks for doing that! I wonder if Radiant is the honourblade in some way. Radiant seems different than her other personas, and i can see the honourblade causing something strange with that. Also, Shallan having an honourblade might explain her stronger abilities and resonances mentioned in this chapter: Questioner If a Radiant uses an Honorblade or binds a second spren, could they get new abilities/resonances by having access to Surges that aren't usually combined? Brandon Sanderson Yes, they could. Indeed.

You very likely could add more than 4 spikes, but they probably wouldn't count as a true Koloss anymore, but a similar, if more powerful/warped construct. As for whether the spikes would kill them, I doubt it; Marsh has at least 22 spikes, and it didn't kill him. Perhaps you could attempt to make a Koloss with more or less than 4 spikes by altering the contents of each spike, but this is speculation on my part (by assuming the spiritual "code" in a spike is what alters the spike bearer instead of just the raw power).

Run-down??? No! It’s a masterfully crafted marble mansion with polished mahogany floors and crystal chandeliers. Also all the walls are solid steel so we don’t break them. Not weird, because when you’re interacting with others on the shard, they’re similar to you and you’re dating someone, (right?) so you’d assume that we’re courageous enough to ask someone out. but yea there’s a new update on the person I like.

I've memorized a few pieces unintentionally from past years and play through them once in a while.

I had a friend who kept forgetting their music, but they also memorized it. the teacher got mad one time because he didn't have it, and tried to explain how he still needed his music for measure numbers and proceeded to ask him to play a specific measure in one of our songs. but then my friend actually knew the measure and it was awkward for the teacher.

There is only one unnamed Shard and evidence is mounting that it is something along the lines of Wisdom or Prudence or a similar concept. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/535/#e16590 The Shards we've encountered in the books get a flowery description of their intent "it was a perfect musical note held forever" "it was the most intimate embrace of lovers" etc. That got me thinking how Prudence / Wisdom might be a little lame in a funny way and that it would be fun to riff on what the unmet shards like Whimsy's flowery descriptions are. Prudence: I am the knowledge gleaned from the mistakes of others, I am the meditating hermit on the mountain top, I am looking both ways before crossing the street, I am waiting an hour after eating before getting in the pool! Whimsy: I am commitment to the bit ... until I don't feel like it anymore, I am every shout of "YOLO" ever uttered, I am the sock that catches the wind, I am the flower that waters you, I am so EXTRA!! Hey guys, sorry in advance for the emotional roller coaster the last couple weeks have been, I don’t know how much of it has bled onto the shard (I know some has, but definitely not all, I kind of tend to hide the bad in secret journals xD) Anyway Ahem There are some moments where the emotions are too powerful to speak. Where the tears falling down your cheeks aren’t enough. Where the screams echoing from your hoarse through aren’t enough. Where you are thumping your chest to try to get to your heart that feels as if it just might burst, and it isn’t enough. Where you’re hugging someone so tight your arms are shaking, and it isn’t enough. Where you laugh at the sky and dance through the rain. Where you need to sing. There are moments when your soul wants to break free from your body and fly its way up to heaven, because this earth cannot possibly understand all that you are feeling. I don’t ever want to lose these moments. I wrote an essay type thing a bit ago about being young, about how you fly and you fall; there is nothing better than flying, and nothing worse than falling. And we get so afraid to fall that we stop flying. Don’t let me ever stop flying. I have fallen, and I will keep falling, and I will shatter and break over and over again. But see how I fly. This is what it means to be alive. The flying, The falling, The feeling. And this feeling, right now… It’s too powerful for any words. Too powerful for a mortal body. Nothing I say can possibly explain it. Because next April, I will be performing in Hadestown, arguably my favorite musical of all time. And it’ll hurt. It’ll be a long, messy, exhausting year. Quick thought here; since high levels of Investiture can help heal someone, would keeping an injured (non powered) person in a Shardpool make them recover more quickly? Or, since the Investiture isn't actually a part of them, would it be ineffective?

I think it's very likely that The fifth ideal will have something to do with forgiveness unless Brandon Sanderson decides to kill off Kaladin fighting Kalak and the fight will end with both their weapons stabbed into each other.

The real question is, will Kaladin have time to care in Book 5? He'll be doing Ishar stuff in Shinovar with everyone's favorite assassin. Who knows, maybe Kalak will be there with Ishar. Basically I'm just skeptical of how much communication can happen in that short a period of time. If Kaladin and Kalak survive to the back half I'm sure they will hate each other, unless Kaladin swears the fifth ideal and that interferes with his hate for those that killed his friends.
