  1. If you will forgive me for this PSA I would be so ever grateful.

Another year has gone and my birthday is here again. Honestly, I don't know how I feel about it. People say age is in the mind, maybe yes maybe no. Last year I celebrated while sitting in a quarantine hotel and being unable to go anywhere. It was a whirlwind of a year. I went through hell and escaped by the skin of my teeth. I dated and had a relationship crumble before my eyes. I have fallen in love with the woman who very likely I will spend the rest of my life with. Time is such an odd thing you know it brings wisdom and perspective, but it also has a way of making one really think about all that people should be thankful for. That being said, thank you for being here for me. Here is to hopefully many more years of wonderful sharding!!!

    This has been my PSA

  2. Oh hey, I hit 5000 rep.

    Am a worldhopper now.

What do you seek now that you are a Worldhopper?

      Noodles?

      Knowledge?

      Power?

  3. I have found perhaps the worst thing of all time on r/cremposting. The author is Lightylantern. If you read it, then you will hate it with a burning passion so strong it would make Odium himself shrink away in fear. IF YOU READ THIS YOUR SOUL WILL DIE A LITTLE ON THE INSIDE!!! You have been warned.

    Read upon in horror!

Woe to all Sanderfans who enter here.

  4. Thanks for the follow! I love you profile picture- isn't nature incredible? Do you like hiking?

  5. The History of America, as recited from my general knowledge and memory.

    [Part One]:

    Spoiler

So once upon a time the planet was a whole lot colder. There was snow and ice and stuff EVERYWHERE. Sometime around now-ish, a bunch of people decided to casually walk from Russia to Alaska and start inhabiting the area. Then it all melted, so they were all stuck there.

This, presumably, is where all the indigenous folks come from... unless you're a MotCoJCoLDS, in which case they also came from these Book of Mormon dudes. If we accept this as historical canon, this is likely where most of the eastern natives came from (i.e. the folks Mr. Columbus ran into).

So now we get to the dry period where stuff happened. I know incredibly little about the native populations' histories. There were probably some wars and such, alliances, trade routes. You've got all sorts of different tribes, who made all sorts of different houses. Out west there're Pueblos (rock towns) and cliff dwellings (towns inside the rocks), but I don't know who used which ones.
Fun fact, though: the New Mexican flag's sun symbol was pretty much just flat-out stolen from the Zuni peoples. We salute the power of plaigarism.

Meanwhile, a lot of scud happens back east. I dunno if any of y'all mormons noticed, but the inhabitants on the coast did not like each other that much. They were ALWAYS fighting. Pretty much everyone got wiped out, leaving literally ONLY MORMON HIMSELF to finish writing on his golden plates, bury them, and then die alone in a cave somewhere.

At some point the vikings come around. I don't really know what they were doing or anything, but, like...

    Vikings, man.

1492! Columbus sails the ocean blue, because he knows that the world is round and wants to prove it! Except that's a lie and it's stupid.

    Columbus

Correction: Chris Columbus was actually just the first modern American, because he thought about how the earth was round and thought to himself...

Hey... what if we could make money off of this?

So he was looking for India, then stumbled upon some tiny islands and decided to be somewhat friendly to the locals! The ones that took him and his crew in got the friend treatment; their enemies, on the other hand, got the gun treatment.

    Everyone got the disease treatment.

Cue colonization! The French and Spanish started fighting over the areas, claiming each area ravenously. The French got most of the Mississippi area out to the Pacific Ocean, while the Spaniards claimed the southwest and Mexico. Along the way, the conquistadors kept killing people. Onate enslaved tons of locals and inducted them into the "true" church (and chopped off some feet along the way), others ransacked pueblos... Some of them popped down to South America to ransack that!

By the time the British got there, pretty much all the indigenous population had been subjected. They claimed the east coast (which the spanish and french... hadn't for some reason???), creating thirteen colonies. The colonists became their own people, defining themselves by their colony (I'm a Virginian! I'm a West Virginian!).

    [Meanwhile, in Europe, for context]:

So then the British clapped the Spanish and send them reeling, then turned their sights to France. They fought long and hard, and ate up ALLLLLLL their reserve funds. Fortunately, they had lots of slave colonies back west, so they started taxing the heck out of the americans. This worked well enough for them to clap the French - it didn't work well enough to make the americans appreciate it.

In response to such things as the Stamp Act (stamp taxes!), they decided to riot a little bit. After someone misheard their orders in Boston, a bunch of schmucks got shot and killed, then decided to tack the word "massacre" to it. Paul Revere made a cool metal engraving of it - go check that out.

In response to that, this dude called Sam Adams got together a bunch of angry locals to attack a merchant ship docked at the Boston Harbor. They yeeted all the tea into the harbor, then decided to tack the word "party" to it.

And then in response to that, the British closed down the harbor completely, essentially ctrl+alt+delete-ing half of the americas' entire economy. They sent a bunch of troops in as well, forcing the locals to provide food and shelter for the men.

    Nobody liked that.

Some insurgents picked up their weapons and decided to fight back. At Lexington, some dudes stood down a small British force. They all aimed their muskets at each other (essentially point-blank, too - old gunfights were really dumb), and then someone misfired.

Shot heard 'round the world! Nobody knows who did it!

    The American Revolution had begun.

  6. There is a story about a man. about half of them are, considering the population. but this one was special. because he never died.

no, not in that way, he died as we all do in the end. but he does live on in the best way possible.

He had many names, Beast, Animal, King of the Server, Pig Lord, Technoblade, etc. but the best of them all was Alex, the only real one of all of them.

What was really special about him wasn't the fact he was amazing at pvp in minecraft, it wasn't that he happened to have the best hair ever (lol), but it was the fact that he kept fighting. he kept surviving.

    he kept giving.

so I hope we all remember this man named Alex forever, I hope that we can go on knowing that he will know glory in his next lives. I hope we can all agree from every religious point of view that he who does good will know good.

And Technoblade truly was a good person.

  7. As I'm sure you all know, today is a very important day

    Happy Fourth of July!!

Nah, that's not it. It's my Shardiversary!

Two years here, and a *whole bunch* of incredible people who've been added to my life. Seriously, I can't imagine my life without the Shard anymore, y'all have made an imprint in my heart. holy scud that sounds cheesy...

I know I'm going to end up forgetting people no matter what, but I still want to try to remember everyone.

    First and foremost, @Channelknight Fadran

Thank you for being my best friend for the past two years. I'm so, so glad that I met you, and I wouldn't change a bit of our friendship.

    @Tesh

You have become one of my very best friends over the past year or so, and I am so grateful for that. Screaming with you about Hunchback and whatever other shows we're currently obsessed with, and just you letting me rant to you about all sorts of things, from my confusing emotions to the randomest stuff in the universe have been some of my favorite things ever

    @Knight of Iron

Koi, you have probably become one of my best friends just in the past, like, week and a half. Thanks for getting me re-obsessed with Imagine Dragons and just being an awesome friend!

    @Vapor

Vapsy!! I seriously love you so much. You are gorgeous and so sweet and wonderful and I wish you realized how very incredible you are. The few times I've been able to hang out with you have been so much fun and I wish I could see you more often

    @Condensation

Connie, the same things I said to Vapor apply to you. You were one of my first friends on the Shard and you're still one of my best friends here. Love ya!

    @Nathrangking

I've loved reading your poetry lately and I am still undescribably happy for you! You've been a constant during my time on the Shard and I'm really glad for that! You're incredible :))

    @DoomStick

I'm *quite* excited for you to meet Moe irl. Also, I'm quite grateful that I've been able to have you as a friend and meet you in person. also can I have every recipe you've ever made ever? I want food

Love you all, here's to another...year and then I'm probably leaving on my mission :).

I'm very proud of my phone dealing with all those tags.

  8. So... It's my Shardversary! I've been here for two years already. Huh.

I thought of utilizing the collision of my 999th post with my Shardversary to post an essay about my history with books in general and with Brandon's ones specifically, but I'm still unsure of where to put it. Until I come to a decision on that, I'll post this status update. I planned on doing it anyway.

So, umm, people use those to thank people they interacted with. And I can either copy them, or try to actually be creative for a change, and say something interesting. Like maybe asking some of you why you're still following me, or ramble about a random thing. Like what else I can do here, say.

Let's try both copying the concept and being creative, then!

I first joined here two years ago. It was in the middle of quarantine, I already read probably the whole published Cosmere, and my brother wannted me to stop bothering him with those stuff. I was congratulated by a couple of people, like @Honorless (among others who I'm too scared to tag/will tag later), who appears to go over introductions a lot, and is quite welcoming. Sadly, I didn't interact with him much besides that. Thanks for welcoming me, anyway! I was a little active in the Mistborn portion of the forum after that - I'm no theorizer like @Karger or @Frustration (why am I tagging people... I interacted with the former on a theory or two, and he also welcomed me here, while I didn't see the latter much on theories, actually), but I have a few ideas I like to share. Plus, I have a nice memory, which works best with random small tidbits from books. I also read the RoW preview chapters, and had a thing or two to say in its spoiler board.

By that time, I started commenting on Forum Games, too, apparently (The Person Below Me, to be specific), which got me invited to the 1000000th post celebration thread, and led to me getting involved in the Truthless dispute. Well, semi involved. I stated my opinions loud and clear, whether or not they had any point whatsoever. I could tag Experience here, but I already tagged too many people I hardly interacted with, so...

I did some stuff! Tried to get people to see my magic system, didn't work, tried to learn how to write from @Channelknight Fadran and how not to from Frustration - can't say how much it helped. Anyway, the RightingWrite with Fadran thread was nice, though most of my interaction with him sums up to the RP I was in with him. That one started during Ookla season, and would've been confusing, though I think I recognized some of the players that I knew in their original names, like @Condensation, and probably Fadran. It was @Tesh's own LGFaD RP, and playing it was... Amazing. Thank you for that, Tesh, it was great RPing, worldbuilding and generally discussing with you. It was there I met awesome people like @Knight of Iron, @JesterLavorre, @The Awakened Salad, and more, who I sadly didn't interact with much. I enjoyed turning the world of the RP to a near-apocalypse world with Knight (I mean, we all helped, but I blame Knight for adding the whole cataclysm part. He can't disprove it!), building the Ideal Realm stuff with both him and Jester (and getting on Knight's nerves sometimes, too, with illogical ideas). And Salad and Tesh... They were the Dragons enthusiastics. They helped in building the world, and were extremely excited on everything dragon-related. As anyone should be. At the same time I joined the Socially Awkward Bookworms cult club, and the Vampire one. I enjoyed interacting with people there, and if I don't tag them it's because there are a lot, and I... Don't really remember everyone. Sorry!

Around this time, I think, it was that I started discussing with @Ixthos about religion. It was a great conversation that's still ongoing, in it's own way. It also includes more people now - I'm happy to see a religious discussion thread, I started in PMs due to a fear of... Uncivilized discussion. Which it did not! In that respect (you could say), I enjoyed interacting with @Nathrangking, @Silva and @Kingsdaughter613, three more Jews I got to know here. אני שמח שיצא לי להכיר אתכם! ולהטריל אנשים כאן עם עברית באמצע פיסקה... סליחה שניצלתי אתכם ככה. It was nice to also RP with Kingsdaughter in @Random Bystander's RP! (Welcome back, BTW. I know I welcomed you already but still.) I played there with a handful of other people - like @Goob (who is still amazing, even without it staying in his nickname), @The Unknown Novel (who has another name back then, and I didn't really interact with, but hopefully I'll get to know better in the RP we currently play together) and more! The RP idea was amazing, it's a bit sad that it died though.

Moving on, and I realize I forgot to mention my crew! It was nice while it lasted, claiming that there are nine colors in the rainbow, discussing the Secret Evil Fantasy Book Mafia with @Tacitus@Bearer of all agonies (where is he nowadays, anyway?) And a handful of people I already mentioned. I interact with a small circle of people, apparently. Unsurprising.

I can try and keep following the timeline, but it's already getting to Discord interactions and I can't really keep up; I could maybe go back in time to observe, I'm sure @theTruthshaper will agree that all systems allow that (worse case scenario, I see a slightly alternate universe. The timeline will be similar enough, I'm sure). Sadly, I don't have a time machine, so I'll have to just keep going; mention @AonEne, the mod I never found intimidating and that I find even less so after interacting with her and listening to the Magnus Archives due to her reccomendation; @Ed Venture, who is an amazing and nice person who I mostly interacted with on Discord; @Elf who I interacted with on Discord and still failed to explain why she is following me; @Flying, who I failed to mention earlier but writes great stories that I, sadly, didn't read enough of yet; Tesh again, to mention her pushing everyone to listen to songs from, and watch, the musical Hadestown, for great conversations, for amazing stories and starting the Sharder Writing group, and for being surprisingly social for a Socially Awkward Bookworm; @DramaQueen for musical recommendations (I didn't know that Daddy Long Legs has a musical/or Shelly was a poet...) and for (apparently) welcoming me here; @Emery the Steelrunner, Knight of Iron, the Unknown Novel, Channelknight Fadran, DramaQueen, JesterLavorre, @Isabelle6060, Random Bystander, @NerdyAarakocra, @Eluvianii and maybe someone else I forget with whom I currently RP; and all of you in general, who found a reason to want to visit my profile, for some reason. It's probably because I've tagged you. sorry for that. Also, I may have forgotten some people or didn't find a point to mention them. Sorry for that, if you'll remind me I may add a sentence or two for you.

Well. That was a wall of text. Hopefully it was enough to overshadow my following anouncement: I'm going to go abroad for the first time in my life next week, to France, with the rest of my family. I had... reasons not to want to go before, but I decided to go in the end. So, yay!

Thank you for reading, and have a good afternoon/evening/night/morning/day/whatever portion of the day you're at while reading this!

Yours, loyally (it's a figure of speech, don't take it literally),

Trutharchivist/TA/Arch/Ookla the Questioning (I still own that name! It's not Ookla season only).

  9. hey. im going to be gone for about half a week on a camping trip. sorry for my absence. if you miss me, go slap a fish with a giant slice of pizza.

p.s. thank you all for the support on the math test.

  17. I go to take my DC Pre Calculus final first thing in the morning. Wish me luck guys.

  18. Last night I had a dream that my birthday was just a few days before Tax Day and because I turned 18 I was technically supposed to pay my taxes. I didn't even have an income or anything, but I got charged with tax evasion.

I got charged. With tax evasion.

Why the crap was there a police interrogation for that????

In other news, the seniors (me included) have set up several tents and lawn chairs in the cafeteria to hang out in all day. Someone brought a hairdryer, so we've been melting marshmallows onto graham crackers and chocolate with that.

  20. I'm going to describe my dream - the one I had last night.

    It was weird.

    Spoiler

We begin with an... odd movie intro. It's some superhero team movie opening shot, where it shows off all the characters and such while the main theme plays in the background (think of that terrible CGI DC bit where they show off the Justice League in really awkward 3D). My dream didn't bother to distinguish between any of them, though: every one just looked like a Daft Punk DJ.

Cue disembodied voiceover intro. Of course, my dreams don't really speak english, so I'm going to kinda... bodge it.

The tone I got was something akin to this:

The world's mightiest heroes, brought together.

[Cue the DJs against a blue backdrop]

    Always fighting for goo-

[Cue the whole thing glitching out and going to red]

    Not all supers are heroes.

There really wasn't much in terms of intro. Basically, the superheroes turned evil.

    Why?

    Dunno!

Anyways: cue them going about and exploding everything they come across. I distinctly remember one scene of a family in their house getting torn to shreds by Vision's forehead laser beam. The whole world was being completely disintegrated.

And the mightiest of all was Superman.

    Except Superman wasn't just Superman.

Superman was all the superheroes, combined into one (possibly like Voltron?). He was the most powerful being of all time, greater even than a god. Imagine Superman turned evil with all the infinity stones.

His power was something akin to that.

The dream itself was split into three POVs, each in the same universe and such. It was... very weirdly coherent.

The first POV was me as this Superman fella. I was the villain, essentially. The not-evil heroes were fighting back against me (though my dream had it be more like an informal court of law than a battlefield), and I was absolutely convinced that I wasn't evil--to the point that I started screaming at everybody. I was running around and destroying things and--

I collapsed to the ground, finding this black goop stuff. It was like the symbiote goop from Venom, but it wasn't at all sentient. However, it was still the stuff that was turning me evil: I realized this, and immediately started using it as an excuse to everyone else that I'm not actually evil. Everyone agrees, but I can only live under one condition:

That I defeat it and never turn evil again.

Second POV: I'm me. I don't know what kind of me--I think I was younger, cooler, better-looking... the works. The world is sorta post-apocalyptic, and I'm trying to survive with my younger brother (who, by the way, has nothing to do with my irl younger brother), when I'm found by none other than Superman Mega EX lv. 9999999999999.... We've been avoiding him for as long as we could... but there's only so long you can avoid the most powerful being in the universe.

He wants to induct us into his evil army. Now, don't ask me why an unstoppable being needs an army, because that's unimportant. I distinctly remember running barefoot through a thicket of dirt and thorns and such to escape him--to no avail, of course.

    Consider me captured.

Now, bear in mind that evil Superman isn't jerkwad Superman. He believes that what he does is right, and wants people to have the choice to join him willingly; to change for the better. By capturing us, he introduces us to some loyal folks of his own:

    My brother and I.

    From another reality.

That's right: Superman can pierce the barriers between universes and access new realities. And in order to convince us to join him, he found... us. Already convinced.

Turns out I don't like myself that much.

Me and me are immediately at gripes with each other. He's this self-righteous little git, and I'm absolutely abhorred by the idea of joining Superman in his evil multiversal conquest. In short, we're not characteristically compatible.

I... don't really remember too much. There was this massive concrete training area at one point, where I was decidedly not training. And later I was using my chosen one powers to beat up alt-me like the chad I was. I'm pretty sure he started it, but still... neither of us were in the right here.

We were both, like, twelve. I.E. not mature.

The turning point of this POV was when I accidentally broke my leg (alt-me's leg, not... me-me's leg). He was collapsed on the ground in extreme pain, and I was apologizing over and over in a panic, 'cause - like, guys, I just broke a kid's leg. He was on the ground and I yanked his leg around and it went in the wrongest direction.

I... don't know what happened after that.

    Third POV: Alt-me.

Backstory time. How did all this happen?

My world was conquered long ago by evil Superman, but had given in to his rule rather than being destroyed and inducting the survivors. I was old enough to join the military trainees (y'know... twelve years). My trainee corps was aboard a big ol' star destroyer thingy, which was currently docked on my home planet. I met up with my admiral (who was cool) and my trainer guy (who was also cool), then followed them to join the other cadets.

So... at this point, my dream decided it wasn't worth distinguishing between any particular forms of media, so I was going to train to be a Sith Underling... following Superman. It was weird, yeah... but also AWESOME.

I don't remember any of the other cadets, which is kinda disappointing. I remember that they were all pretty new to it like myself, but I had something different in me: an affinity with a certain form of lightsaber. It was a longer, heavier version, but I had this epic minute or so where I was just nyooming it around like a marching band's baton, flinging it into the air and twiriling it in circles and... just hot dang was it cool!

Unfortunately, it all became very unintelligible after that. The lightsabers became the nasty walmart plastic versions, we were all thrown into an arena where our blades weren't working, it may or may not have regressed to a plastic ball pit at one point... I dunno.

That was kinda the extent of it.

Why am I telling you this?

Well, obviously, because I need to write it now.

Coming soon to a Creator's Corner near you: Space Opera Gods
