Mid-Range Game 42: The Auction of Lord Winsting

Recommended Posts

MR: The Auction of Lord Winsting

It has been weeks since Lord Winsting announced the auction of his latest painting Woman in Ash. Invitations to this exclusive auction have been extremely hard to come by, but are well worth the weeks spent posturing, making promises, and fighting for one of the seats in the room. Finally, you have received your invite. All you have to do is RVSP for your chance to own not just Woman in Ash but the vote of Lord Winsting. Hopefully Lord Winsting’s men are up to the task of keeping the Auction secret and safe.

Factions:

Constabulary

The Constable Octants have sent in their spies. Their best agents. Each of them has learned enough information here to arrest every man and woman at the party, and possibly cleanse Elendel of Corruption.

The Eliminators: Constables have a group doc and a night kill.

Criminal Houses

Crime Lords, House Lords, and Company Lords. Sycophants, Bodyguards, and Escorts. They form the bulk of the Party Goers, and are here to buy the Vote of Lord Winsting. But now that there are 4 bodies on the ground, they just want out, preferably with the constabulary dead.

The Village: Criminals do not know each other, nor know how many of each other there are. They do not have a faction ability.

Bleeder

A rogue Kandra with aspirations of Deicide. The first step is in causing chaos, and the murder of the governor’s brother, Lord Winsting, will work admirably.

The Serial Killer: Completely alone

Win Conditions:

The game ends if Lord Winsting dies, or if the party disperses. If Winsting dies, then Bleeder wins, and everyone else loses.  The party can only be dispersed by a majority vote (3/5ths, rounding up, of living, awake players.) If 1 or more Constable are alive when the party disperses, the Constables all win, and everyone else loses. If there are no Constables alive when the party disperses, the Criminals win, and everyone else loses. If Bleeder and all Constables are dead, the Criminals win the next hour.

If a player does not speak in the thread for a cycle, or gets targeted by an escort, they are counted as asleep for the next cycle. Sleeping players cannot vote to disperse the party.

Private Messages

Limited. Every player as a non action may send one message of any length to any other player. These cannot be redirected, roleblocked, or eavesdropped upon. Each Message must at the top of the message have the cycle it was sent. (You don't have to make a new convo each time, just post in the actual message what cycle it is)

Roles

Spoiler

This game is very much Role madness. Every player will have a role. No player will have more than 2 roles. Players may only take 1 action each cycle. Votes do not count as actions.

Faction specific Roles:

Flogs: Flogs is the best bodyguard a man could ask for, and completely loyal to Lord Winsting.

Each cycle, Flogs can target a person, and figure out if they are a Constable or not. If he scans Bleeder, he is told she is not a Constable. This role cannot be lynched.

Winsting: Lord Winsting is the brother of Elendel’s Governor, and also quite corrupt. He is also very good at acting and manipulation. As such, there is no way to find him until Flogs dies.

This role is not assigned at the start of the game. It is assigned to a random villager once Flogs dies. This role may use any non-faction specific role's action. If there are no other Villagers alive when Flogs dies, the Constables win.

Bleeder: Bleeder is the ultimate Anti-theist. She wants everyone in the room to die, but understands that this goal is impossible unless Winsting is dead.

Each cycle she can target someone and learn their Alignment and Role. If she does not do that, she can instead kill a player. If she attacks Winsting, her Kill cannot be blocked by a bodyguard. Kill actions taken against her fail as if she was protected by a bodyguard.

5th Octant Constable: You have a secondary objective here tonight. In addition to any other skills you have, you will learn the identity and alignment of whomever kills Dowser. Any action you take that targets Dowser will become a kill action. You lose if the game ends with Dowser alive.

Dowser: You have a secondary objective here tonight. In addition to your Smuggler role, you will learn the identity and alignment of whomever kills 5th Constable. Any action you take that targets 5th Constable will become a kill action. You lose if the game ends with 5th Constable alive.

Non Faction specific Roles

Gambling Tycoon: The first time you would die, you will survive all attacks. (This includes the lynch.)

Smuggler: You can cancel a player’s vote. If your action would cause a global tie, it is roleblocked. You cannot target the same player twice in a row. (Lynch vote or Dispersal vote)

Impersonator: You can Move another player’s Lynch Vote. You cannot target players who have not voted. Your vote will be canceled as if escorted.

Extortionist: You may force a player to target someone of your choice, even if they have not taken an action. You cannot target the same player twice in a row. You can choose a specific action to use, but if that action is not available to be used against the chosen target, it defaults to a random action.

Bodyguard: You may protect another player from one attack each hour. You cannot target the same player twice in a row.

Escort: You may prevent a player from taking an action, and they will count as being asleep the following Hour. You cannot target the same player twice in a row.

Bartender: On even Hours, you may kill a player.

Renowned: You can target a player and learn their role. Bleeder will appear as a bartender, Flogs as a bodyguard, Winsting as a Gambling Tycoon.

Gossip: You may send 4 Private Messages each turn.

Stalker: You may watch a player and see who they visit. You may not target the same player twice in a row.

Housekeeping

Spoiler

Cycles will be combined. Turns are 48 hours long and will have a lynch. RP wise, turns will be represented as Hours in the night, starting at One AM.

Whoever has the most votes will be lynched. If there is a tie for most votes, both parties will be lynched. There is no vote minimum, except the first hour, which has a 3 vote minimum.

Votes cannot be retracted unless they are replaced with a new vote.

Dead and Spec doc are combined.

This game will start on Monday the 25th of May, 2020, at 09:00 AM GMT.

First one! I was the first one, but Straw was faster:)

Ehem. Another game I can screw up.

I am joining! if I am welcome.

I will be (Finally my name fits something) Lord Silberfarben. A sneering and hateful crime lord.

I'm definitely in! Lord Reginald is RSVPing.

@Coda the game ended but the aftermath has yet to be put up. Fifth scholar hasn't been on the Shard since May 8th though, and Striker has just said that it might be a while from what I know.

@A Joe in the Bush how do you vote to disperse the party? Is it like "Disperse"? If so then we won't be able to vote for a player and to disperse the same turn?

Will there be a lynch if we vote to disperse?

It says that kill actions taken against bleeder fail as if she was protected by a bodyguard, but a bodyguard can't protect the same person two cycles in a row. So then if Bleeder is attacked two cycles in a row will they die on the second cycle? Or is it saying that they are just always protected from kills?

Dowser says "in addition to your smuggler role", does that mean that Dowser will always be a smuggler?

What do you mean by "global tie" in the smuggler role?

The extortionist can't target the same person twice in a row, but since they make one player target another player can they then not target both players involved in their last action?

Since we can't retract a vote without replacing it, would it be valid to go from a vote on a player to a vote to disperse?

I will sign up as Matrim, of course

As this will be my first game, I hope I don't mess things up too badly :)

@A Joe in the Bush Can we send 1 PM every cycle, or the entire game?

For all the roles, are they single-use?

This is like mafia but slightly more complicate right? And if it is I won't be very good because my mafia strategy is to listen for who is moving.

Also I don't really understand the rules. But I am probably imagining a much more complicated scenario then what is actually going to happen.

Yes, it is a more complicated mafia. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Unless I misread the rules, PMs are 1 per cycle. And all the roles are not single-use, unless they specifically say so.

Also, signing up as Variel. A man many people have only heard of, but not quite seen. He's kept quiet so far, though now might be the time for him to stick his neck on the line this time.

Do we have to give our names?

You don't have to give a name. It's just for if you want to do Role-Play (RP).

You can play without giving a name! And if you do decide to give a name, it's just for a character that you're going to be role-playing as. You don't have to do that if you don't want to. :)

You can play without giving a name for your character. It's completely optional.
