Mid-Range Game 63: The Outcasts of Tyrian Falls

Tin Capone was not a cruel man. He had never been known to let a man suffer. Why torture someone when Soother or Rioter could just make him want to reveal the information? Because it was fun, of course. But still, he never let his underlings torture a man for information. He idly flipped a boxing. Silver Snakes should be in soon. That would be good. Tin Capone had plans for him.

A knock came from the door. "Who is it?" Tin Capone called. It was Silver Snakes of course, no one else would be coming around today.

He walked through the door. No manners, none of these modern skaa had any. And he wore that silly little hat that was popular out here. Gah. They must catch ash like a bucket.

Firmly in the door, he answered. "S'me, Silver Snakes, boss."

"Well, I gathered that much you rusting idiot. Now why're you here?"

"I got the stuff, boss."

Tin Capone allowed himself a smile. A nice, broad, perfectly normal smile.

"Leave it on the doorstep and get out of here."

"Alright, boss, but what about my boxings?"

"What boxings?"

"Iron Acey said you had some steel for me."

"Is that a fact. How much do I owe you?" Not a bent boxing. Iron Acey was dead as his mind, and any of his debts were gone.

"Iron Acey said ten percent."

"Too bad Iron Acey ain't in charge no more."

Silver Snakes' eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"

His smile, which had momentarily dropped, came back into its full, terrifying bloom. "He's upstairs, counting boxings." Hard to manage, when they were in his skull, but Tin Capone was sure he could manage it. "He'll send you a Tineye message when he gets done." Or at least one to Silver Snakes' family, informing them that he too, was counting coins.

Then Tin Capone decided on the direct approach. "Hey, Silver Snakes, I'll tell you what I'll give you. I'll give you to the count of sixteen to get your ugly, yellow, no good corpse off my property."

He stepped back, slowed by his stupidity. "Did you say… corpse?"

"One, two," the man scrambled back, tripping over his own feet out the door, "sixteen!" Boxings flew forward, ripping through the man.

Tin Capone laughed, oh he laughed, and his smile was so wide, a koloss would run from it. "Keep the change, you ashy animal."

A junior member of the Mobborn walked into the room, his eyes looking at his own feet, which saved him from seeing Tin Capone's smile. "You want me to clean this up, boss?"

"Yes, yes I would." Tin Capone peered deep into the boy, his smile momentarily forgotten. "Tell me boy, what's your name?"

"I'm called Copper Copper, on account of my pa getting killed by, well, a copper."

Tin Capone was sure the doubling of his name had nothing to do with the boy's eyes constantly looking cross eyed. "Do you want a job, Copper Copper? A real job, not cleaning up blood and ash stains."

"Uh, yeah boss, I'd like that."

Like he had a choice. But Tin Capone nodded as if he did. "Good, good, now, I want you to take a squad of boys to a growing little metal route town. Tyrian Falls, you heard of it?"

The kid, who was actually more of a fully grown adult, gasped slightly, his eyes widening. Was he scared of that little town? Maybe he wasn't the right person for the job. But it was too late now. "Yeah, boss, I have."

"Good, good, I want you to start me a new branch of the Mobborn over there, you got it?"

"Sure, boss, but I heard the Ministry's been taking an interest down there. They probably sent some informers down there."

"So? What's the saying, 'suffer not an Informer to live?'"

"I don't thi—"

"Don't correct me. Just get down, and get me a bit of that metal route they got going on down there. Aight?"

"Alright boss."

And the kid left without even being told. He had potential. Now Tin Capone just had to find out what had the boy so scared of Tyrian Falls.

Welcome to Mid-Range Game 63: The Outcasts of Tyrian Falls. I will be your GM, and your illustrious IM will be @Devotary of Spontaneity.

I am also looking for a Co-GM! PM me if you are interested. Writeups will be minimal or nonexistent unless my Co-GM takes an interest.

Sign ups will close on Monday the 17th at 9:30 PM, Mountain Time, Cycle One will be posted shortly after, and all future rollovers will take place at that time.

If you would like the rules in a doc, you can find them here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FHjcSnyL8yBw4PAU14BhuA04xNlyKcoQ8lItNCbSUSc/edit?usp=drivesdk

And if you would like the rules in forum form, you may find them below.

Spoiler

Basics:

Spoiler

Cycles will be combined and 48 hours long.

There will be a community execution every cycle.

Ties will randomly kill one of those involved, but the Mobborn have rigged the system so that their members will never die in a tie.

There will be a vote minimum of two, which may be spread out or congregated as the players wish.

While the Inefficient Tineye lives, PMs require an action to make. Once the Tineye dies, PMs may be made freely.

PMs are always 1 on 1, and you cannot make group PMs regardless of whether or not the Tineye is alive.

There will be an activity filter of two cycles. Anyone who fails to post for one cycle will be notified, and if they do not post, they will be either replaced or removed depending on the availability of pinch-hitters.

Alignments:

Spoiler

The Iron Informers: You've lived your life on the street, but you want a way out. The Steel Ministry has given that to you, you just have to tell them about all the skaa running around the streets. Luckily, they've given you a few low powered spikes to help you do that. Every cycle you may inform the Steel Inquisitors of a half noble skaa. They will be killed. You must reach parity with both the Skaa Survivors and the Mobborn (3/2/5 is parity, not 5/5/5). You have an abandoned house (doc) you can meet and communicate in.

The Skaa Survivors: The Survivor may not even be born yet, but you still follow his tenets. You wish only to survive, but to do that you need to eliminate all the threats. You must eradicate all the Iron Informers and outnumber the Mobborn when the last Iron Informer dies.

The Mobborn: You've been sent by Tin Capone to start a new branch of the Metal Mob in Tyrian Falls. In order to do that you need to recruit as many people as possible. You will have a factional recruitment ability, which one Mobborn may take every cycle. If that player is soothed, the recruitment will fail. Each recruit will have a PM with the Mobborn who recruited them. You must outnumber the Skaa Survivors when the last Iron Informer dies.

Roles:

Spoiler

Experimental Coinshot: You have a habit of going outside the norm, and you experimented with different uses of steel. You can push on all the objects around you, fending off any attacks. You can survive an attack.

Slowfooted Lurcher: You're a little heavy on your feet, and can't dodge what's thrown at you. You can choose two targets, their actions will be redirected to yourself.

Inefficient Tineye: While you are alive, PMs require an action to open. You may make a single PM per turn without an action, and with your action you can learn who all of the PMs are between.

Heavyweight Thug: You're on what some might call the heavy side, but hey, it's hard to get past you. You can roleblock a player.

Careless Rioter: You aren't very particular about what emotions you inflame, but you can make someone very deep in their convictions. You can double a player's (not your own) vote. They will be informed.

Instinctive Soother: You can manipulate emotions well enough, but it's more instinctive than anything, and instinct is to survive. You automatically make one of the votes on you disappear. You may cancel it if you so choose.

Weak Smoker: Doesn't matter how bad you are, emotional Allomancy is always blocked, but your coppercloud is too small to contain other people. And what allomantic pulses are you going to block without other people to make them? You aren't affected by emotional Allomancy.

Keen-eyed Seeker: You can't distinguish pulses, but you have a keen sense of direction. You can tell who targets a player.

Useless Augur: You're basically useless, but seeing where you might have ended up might have its uses. You can know what your role and alignment might have been in a different distro (AKA, vanilla but with some fun extrapolation distro guessing stuff in there).

All-powerful Vanilla: Hey, you may just be some random rugrat, but even you might be enough to save the town.

Order of Actions:

Spoiler

Thug Roleblock

Lurcher Redirect

Rioter Enhancement

Soother Cancelation

Mobborn Recruitment

Elim Kill/Execution

Tineye PM Scan

PMs Send

Augur Introspection

Seeker Scan

Clarifications:

Spoiler

If one of the Mobborn tries to recruit an Informer, the Informer's kill will be redirected to that Mobborn, and the recruitment will fail.

A riot and a soothe will cancel each other out, adding one vote and subtracting one vote.

Q Is the Mobborn ability a full conversion or more of a ‘tag’ like the Gyorn/Odiv from LG12/44?

A The Mobborn Recruitment is a true conversion, anyone selected by it loses their old win condition and gains the Mobborn one.

Q Is there guaranteed exactly one tineye?

A Nope, not at all.

Q Does the elim kill require an elim to use an action?

A Yes.

Q Coinshots passively survive one attack ever?

A Yes, like a Thug, but not for the exe.

Q Do PMs count as targeted actions for Lurchers and Seekers?

A No.

Q Do Tineyes learn about Mobborn PMs?

A No.

Q Does the Soother target one of their voters at random to cancel?

A Yes, the selection is random.

Q If a Smoker is soothed, can they still be recruited by Mobborn since they're immune to emotional allomancy?

A Yes.

Busy with some personal projects and taking a break from SE at the moment but am willing to provisionally pinch-hit depending on how things are when I'm tapped.

An activity filter of two cycles is being added! Anyone who does not post for a cycle will be @ed, and if they fail to post for yet another cycle, they will be replaced or, if no pinch-hitter is available, they will be removed. The rules in thread and in the doc will be updated to reflect this.

Oh no Kasimir said a no-no word :P jk kas

Damnit, you're right!

What the hell was I thinking?

The r**d word in SE usually presages:

-Screaming
-Things catching fire
-Violence
-General chaos
-Mob violence
-People dying
-*Occasional Elim death

Stop using the r**d word today and save lives!

SE Villager lives are in your hands!

@The Known NovelSince there's a possibility that the mob-born get split up or otherwise end up with several different groups unable to communicate (and possibly not knowing who the others are), how would the following situations play out?

1. two different mobborn submit recruitment actions

2. a mobborn tries to recruit another mobborn

3. two different mobborn submit recruitment actions, one of which targets another mobborn.

Latest submitted takes priority.

It fails.

Regardless of time submitted, the one that is not targeting the Mobborn is chosen.
