  4. MR77 Cycle Three: Weike Up Dead Man Sailors picked their way through ferns and vines. Thunder boomed, and an instant deluge fell on the jungle below. Ignoring the sky's warnings, the sailors pressed on toward the head of the greatshell. In the midst of the downpour, Wei staggered through the undergrowth alone. When her foot slipped, she stumbled into a demon. "Stop following me, voidbringer," she slurred. The blue-skinned man gently guided her to the ground. His eyes were unnaturally large. "Coincidence, sailor. I'm after that fine specimen you've attracted." Axies the Collector stared over Wei's head. "Yes, it's the largest stupidityspren I've seen in years!" Wei scoffed. That was a common schoolyard prank. "Sore throat? And no need for a banker to check your balance." He held up four fingers. "How many minutes do you have left?" As Wei fell into a coughing fit, Axies revised his estimate down to three. "At least you'll die in beautiful company." He tilted Wei's head to look downward. "See that? It's like a delicate rockbud." A yellow flower had emerged from the ground in full bloom. "They wait until the chaos of the storm to extend themselves. Remind you of anyone?" "I know... I know who poisoned me," Wei realized. "At lunch..." "You haven't eaten since lunch? No wonder you're sickly." Axies deftly picked the flower and shoved it in Wei's mouth. It squirted a soothing nectar down her throat. "I can't feel my legs!" "You won't want to in a minute. Your body's about to die, but you can ignore that temporarily." Wei began crawling back the way she'd came. "I have to warn them." Axies lifted a branch, revealing a short trail to an open clearing. "Could you be more dramatic about it? You might call a martyrspren." As Wei crawled slowly, her stupidityspren had the decency to disappear. The jungle ended at the base of Relu-na's neck. The first sailors to arrive had taken cover in the treeline. In the distance, two figures sat atop the greatshell's head, unbothered by the downpour. Pladel chewed some bark aggressively. "They're testing our commitment." "Climbing would be dangerous." Zeek's waterlogged eyebrows fell over his face like bangs. "Waiting out the storm would be sensible." Pladel turned to her crew. "Listen up! That one's Talik, and that one's the king. Yes, he's a woman, get over yourselves. They want to be impressed. A double share to anyone who pulls that off." Reluctantly, Zeek shared a similar message to his crew, with more urging to be cautious. A few eager sailors set off to try the ascent. "Pladel!" Wei emerged from the brush, limbs shaking uncontrollably. Kol the quartermaster dragged her to her feet. "Show some respect, sailor!" "I've been-" "Shove off with your excuses." "It's fine, Kol," Pladel said. "I'm poisoned." "It's not fine, Captain. Without a first-mate, this crew has lost their discipline." "I told you not to speak of him." "Apologies, Captain, but someone's got to say the truth. Ever since you killed-" "Enough!" Pladel slapped him. He dropped Wei, whose body fell hard. They looked at Wei. A shardblade shimmered into view beside her corpse. “Nobody touch that!” Pladel quickly snatched the sword and handed it to the sailor she trusted most, Qian. The treehouse in the jungle held a new secret today. The secret of a murder weighed on two girls’ minds. They'd watched Qian walk the trail that led back to the ships. They'd seen other sailors follow, asking to see the shardblade. Cass had looked away as the men started shouting. Polly looked away when the shardblade was swung. But both had looked back, in time to see a killing blow. The shardblade was taken, and the girls knew by whom. Plot hooks: Parlay with the king, or investigate these murders! @Illwei was NKed! They were a Merchant Crew. @Qianweilian was killed by the sailors (based on RNG)! They were a Merchant Officer. There was no Rebuke. Enmity is now 3. Player-player PMs are permanently closed. 5. This round is closed. The twins had discovered the last of the tree house's secrets years ago. There was a nail in a floorboard that glowed after storms. A hollow chair leg held a spanreed, missing its gemstone. Nestled in the roof was a box for an orange-red carapace mask. In the box's hidden compartment were some thin-tipped darts that their parents had confiscated. From their perch in the treetop, Polly and Cass watched the sailors enter the jungle below. A minute later, they saw the voidbringer stalking behind the group. Polly thought it was cute, for a demon.
  6. This round ends in 12 minutes.
  7. Rollover is in ~4.5 hours, at 8pm EST
  8. For Grub's eyes only: Your GM typically only answers direct questions, but I'll give you this one for free. Items held by dead people return to the Cargo Hold. Books dissolve when they enter the hands of Officers, but remain in play if in the Inventory of a Crew or Thief. An error was made in the Cargo Hold announcement. I have since corrected the OP to change one available Pre-Written Boast into one available Bribe. I got the two items mixed up when writing the list.
  9. MR77 Cycle Two: See an Enemy The anchor of Ishar’s Blessing was shaped like a luckspren. It rested on the seabed next to a piece of driftwood with indomitable will. An ocean cremling scurried past, drawn by drops of blood floating in the water ahead. A body lay face-down in a field of sea anemones. The cremling licked its head wound, before larger fish arrived to scare it off. The balance between life and death in the ocean was always fickle. Pladel arrived just in time to avert a disaster. Her quartermaster, Kol, was red in the face driving a hard bargain with a trio of Reshi. “What do you mean, rust? On my mother’s life, this is best quality! And on my father’s life, this is best deal on Roshar.” “That’s enough, Kol.” Pladel pulled him close to whisper. “You’re the loss leader, agree to their terms.” The quartermaster begrudgingly traded his fabrial for some painted shells. Two of the Reshi left, leaving a man with incredible abs and a massive sack over his shoulder. “You must be the Captain. I am Talik, trademaster to the king.” Red ribbons of anticipationspren flickered into view around Pladel. She glared at the other Captains who approached to intrude. “A pleasure, Talik. I am Captain Pladel. This is Marlen, Zeek, and… I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten your name, translator.” “Macks, happy to help.” He studied Talik. “Your Alethi’s better than mine! Or are we speaking Veden, I get them confused.” Pladel watched Talik’s abdominal muscles clench. “Why have you brought death to Relu-na?” “A minor issue,” Marlen said. “The killer was dealt with. Zeek’s crew caught them last night.” “Sadly, one of my countrymen. An accomplished trademaster and babsk, I don’t know what possessed them.” “What matters is the bloodshed is over!” “Is that so, Captains.” Talik dropped his sack, from which the waterlogged body of Fickle fell out. “Then why was this in our fishing nets?” “It’s… possible we detained the wrong person. We will fix this, honoured host.” “See that you do.” Zeek paled. “I fear a grave error was made. I ordered the crew to, ahem, take care of the prisoner.” He turned to Macks. “When did you relay my orders? Is there time to stop the execution?” “Execution? That’s what you meant? I thought asking to pamper the prisoner was some kind of interrogation technique.” Marlen clasped Talik’s shoulder. “As you can see, we’re a peaceful people. We even treat our traitors with dignity.” “Yeah, when I left, they were preparing a special seafood stew for him!” “Ten Fools! He’s deathly allergic to shellfish!” They looked to Talik. “My people have little need for your trinkets,” he eventually said. “I know why you came. Let’s sate your ambition and send you on your way.” As he spoke, Pladel rooted through Fickle’s pockets. “Anyone missing a necklace? Storming thief’s got some papers here too. Didn’t know he could read.” Talik pointed at a path through the jungle. “You have until sundown. First to find the king may negotiate with him. Then you will leave us alone. Please.” Plot hook: Follow your captains through the jungle to find the king. @Mystic was NKed and thrown overboard! They were a Thief. @Wahrheitswächter was exed and died of a shellfish allergy! They were a Merchant Officer. There was no Rebuke. Enmity is now 2. Player-player PMs are now closed. Rollover is at 8pm Sunday July 5. 10. You can change your orders until rollover, don't worry about me boss This round is now closed. Please stop PMing, posting, or editing posts. Rollover will take at least an hour. An Azish mutiny was an orderly affair. Captain Ado rolled a garnet chip from finger to finger. “Come at me then. I’m ready ta meet the santhids.” Their crew, hastily hired for the voyage, conferred in whispers. “We’re sorry, was the paperwork unclear?” Ado crushed the sphere in their hand. The stormlight flitted away into the night. “I got the gist. You want me gone.” Jawick, the ship’s cook, handed Ado more papers and a new sphere to read by. “This merely conveys our intent to strike. We will of course continue to work during the notice period.” Ado threw the sphere into the ocean. “You’ve got me over a barrel here.” “We understand the imposition. Siksi will recuse themselves from negotiations to assist you with the rebuttal forms.” Ado’s hand was bleeding. “You can still re-apply for the position. Your essay will be sent to our proctors via spanreed. Would you like some bandages for that?” Seeing where this was headed, Ado launched themself overboard.
  11. Rollover is in 25 minutes. Given how laggy the site has been today, you might want to leave some buffer time for last minute posts and orders. For administrative purposes, I'm going to start responding in GM PMs with what I have as your action/bonus action orders.
  12. General reminder to include myself and Araris in PMs, and the prefix MR77. @The Unknown Character Enmity is 1 right now. @Mystic I have no comment on the presence of the Thief alignment in this game. new new VC Qian (2): Hoid, Myst Wahr (1): TJ TJ (1): Hopper TUC (3): Illwei, Grub, Qian Hoid (2): Mint, Wahr
  13. Enmity is calculated based on exes only. The Enmity announced at the start of the round is the amount villagers need to match or exceed to pass that round.
  14. Vote Count (Please correct me if I'm wrong) Qian (1): Hoid Illwei (1): Wahr TJ (1): Hopper Hoid (1): Grub TUC (1): Illwei Pre-written Boasts can be activated as a Bonus Action if your Action is anything other than using an Item. That's the only Item that uses a Bonus Action slot. In that scenario, the Ghostbloods and Merchants both win.
  15. Correct. I forgot Letter of Endorsement modifies Favour, so add that to the list. A passive action is how I track something like Agreement with Axies or Spanreed. Another rules clarification I need to add is that an item with a passive effect has to have started the round in your possession for it to produce its effect.
  16. I'd like to imagine he's filling in for Wayne, who didn't show up
  17. Vote Count Qian (1): Hoid Hopper (1): Wahr The base Items that increase Favour are Treasure, Prewritten Boast (key), and Agreement with Axies the Collector. They're augmented by Books and Mentorship. There's a clunky item interaction I need to clarify. As a general rule, an Item you take from the Cargo Hold can't be used or stolen until the following round. That's why Item theft happens first in the order of actions. However, books immediately teach Expertise, which can affect your key use that round. Think of it as you skim the book while you're in the process of taking it, but it doesn't enter your possession until later. I'll move Expertise and Mentorship to before Item theft in the OOA, but taking possession of books (which is all that Crew and Thieves do) will remain in the same part of the order. Reminder as well that keys are used immediately. You don't convert them into an Item for next round, you convert them and use them in the same round. So I'll need a target for your key as part of your submission. Lastly, friendly reminder to submit both an Action and a Bonus Action, if you're so inclined.
  18. MR 77 Cycle One: Diamonds Talenin wore a rope from his belt to the mast when above deck. The pale-skinned trademaster shied away from the railings as he addressed the crew of Dilid’s Reprieve. “These savages are godless creatures, but we must hold our noses today. Don’t fixate on their heathenistic ways." Talenin noted the violet streaks of confusionspren hovering around the Herdazean contingent of the crew. “Macks! Aren't you supposed to translate for us?” Macks spoke seven languages, but none of them well. The slender man stepped forward, fiddling with the medallion necklace he wore. “Sorry, Master Talenin. Can I have a moment?” “Absolutely not! They need to hear this before going ashore.” “I'm not-” “Quickly now!” Talenin snapped his fingers at the crew. “A successful merchant…” “A good tradesmaster,” Macks repeated, in broken Herdazean. “Employs dual strategies.” “Hires, no, does fighting strategies.” “First, hear no evil,” Macks gestured at the ship. “Here there is no evil.” “Second, see no evil.” “The ocean is also good.” “Do what you must to secure the sale.” “It is important to protect the sail.” The Herdazean sailors shuffled their feet. “Our ships… fight?” one asked in broken Alethi. Talenin squinted. “Trade is kind of like a fight. One we will win! Lower the rowboat, my conquest awaits.” Macks tinkered with his medallion as they watched Talenin approach the greatshell island. He would be dead by sunset. As it reached the beach, Pladel’s rowboat was greeted by a circle of merchant officers of various kingdoms, judging by their uniforms. “Welcome to Relu-na, Captain.” She ignored the proffered hand, pulling herself out with the help of a nearby vine. “Not the welcome party I expected.” “I am Zeek,” said the Thaylen. “These are Captain Ado, Captain Marlen, and her translator, Macks.” “I'm really not qualified…” Pladel nodded curtly. “How's trade been?” “Your crew is welcome to pitch tents and share the clearing. There's been some interest in our dried goods and metal wares.” Captain Zeek ran a finger through his spiked eyebrow. “Their dignitaries have yet to acknowledge us.” Pladel had just unclenched her jaw when Zeek continued. “But there's been a complication.” An angerspren burrowed from the ground at Captain Marlen's feet. “My trademaster was killed.” An hour later, Pladel was sitting beside a fire, holding a three-pointed throwing star in her hand. “It's an uncommon weapon.” Marlen was pacing. “The locals don't carry them. Weapons of any kind.” Zeek nodded. “They barely wear clothes half the time. I had to send my crates of cloth back to the ship.” “Did Talenin have any enemies?” “Not… Well, probably. But they could have done it any time on the journey here.” Her implication was clear: someone from another crew did this. Zeek's Thaylen eyebrows furrowed. "I have offered a reward of three diamond broams to anyone who identifies the killer. Even if he's one of my own. Especially so." Pladel pinched the throwing star between her fingers. "Does the shape of this mean anything to you?" Macks dropped his medallion and scrambled to pick it up. "Your translator knows." Pladel got to her feet. "Show this symbol to your crews. We have a Ghostblood among us." Talenin has been killed! He was a Merchant Officer! Plot hooks: Pitch tents on the beach and trade with the Reshi, or secure your ship from danger. Mid-Range Game 77 starts now! I'm your GM, @Archer. Feel free to ping or PM me with game questions. Our IM is @Araris Valerian. He's available to resolve conflict and ensure this game is smooth sailing. Alignment PMs have gone out; please tell me if you've been missed. 19. I love the collab! This story is intentionally vague about which ships, crew, and officers are present, so feel free to insert yourself into the story however you like. This game starts in about 26 hours. I need time to balance, so I'm closing signups tomorrow at 10 am EST. Play begins when Cycle One is posted, regardless of when you receive your GM PM. *** SIGNUPS ARE NOW CLOSED. You may still sign up as a pinch hitter at any time.
  20. You won't be told the Favour count. The spanreed Item reveals that to the bearer, but otherwise, you'll just be told whether Favour was sufficient or not. I've added an Order of Actions to the rules. Purple indicates when someone is informed they've been targeted, otherwise, you mostly just receive inventory updates each round. And information, like if you learned someone's target via Item use.
  21. If you grab an item C1, you can use it C2. During the C2 to C3 rollover, I'll remove it from your inventory and attempt to apply the effect immediately. I'm not actually going to say whether you succeeded or not at any action.
  22. You being first in the player list makes this even funnier 1/ The Cargo Hold only replenishes when Ship's Manifest is used. The exception is the failsafe rule that automatically restocks it after two rounds. 2/ Manifests will provide multiple Items, some of which may be repeats. 3/ The rare/common distinction matters for the Thief win condition, and otherwise is just a benchmark for how commonly they'll appear in the resupplying. 4/ Unclaimed Items remain in the Cargo Hold to be claimed later. There's also some recycling from the inventories of the dead. 5/ You can only ever submit one of each type of action. So grabbing two Items is impossible. You can't submit conditional orders, such as 'take the shardblade, but if I fail, take a bribe'. 6/ Whoops. 48 hour cycles, standard MR. This game begins at 8pm EST on July 1.
  23. Duplicates are possible, but Rare Items are, well, rare. *secret Canadian hand shake* Based on the responses, we'll start the game on July 1, probably 8 or 9pm EST
  24. Good question, each writeup will declare whether a Rebuke was given. The effects of the first aren't disclosed publicly, but the death by the second is. Noted, if you're super active, it means you're bad at wrestling Hi! If we've already met, I apologize, but otherwise, nice to meet you!
