Rollover is five hours from now. Please submit your votes in your GM PM, and vote in House PMs for Prefect. My rules were ambiguous, so to clarify: If you are awarded a spell by Prefect or Extra Credit, you must declare your selection by the next rollover, or take random selection. You can use it that rollover, or save it for future use. Obliviate affects spells that were earned previously, which could include those declared in the same rollover that Obliviate is declared then also cast. Therefore, a Prefect could immediately target another Prefect during the next rollover, erasing their spell before it is cast. (Obliviate only affects the elim factional spell if it's actively being cast that cycle.) Another clarification: I would announce if someone was double tapped by the NK and exe. -

This cycle ends in around 21.5 hours. Clarification: The removals come at the end of the Order of Operations. Someone who obtains a perk this round could die, and the perk dies with them. -

Yes, your net score (sum of positive and negative numbers) is what determines your placement. * Voting in your GM PMs is for fixed values. The only tiers you have available are: 1st suspect (which I give -3 points to) 2nd highest suspect (-2) 3rd highest suspect (-1) 3rd highest trust (+1) 2nd highest trust (+2) 1st most trusted (+3) You don't have to submit votes for every tier, but you can't assign an unusual number of points to someone (+4 etc). -

Sequence of events: –At the start of the game, all players received a PM stating they are village unless later told otherwise. (Later means at the Cycle Zero to One rollover) –Players then selected their houses. Cycle Zero ended after the last selection was made. –Some players then received PMs stating they are actually elims. This occurred after the window to choose houses had closed. PMs were the last thing I sent out. And unless you hear otherwise, we'll end the Cycle Saturday evening. So many ninjas -

Friendly reminder that Prefect voting occurs in your House PM. Exe voting occurs in your GM PM. It's currently scheduled for Sunday evening. If we wanted to, it could reasonably be moved to Saturday evening. -

Cycle One: The Sword of Gryffindor This cycle ends at 20:00 EST (GMT -4) on Saturday, March 28th. Round One Prefect Voting This round only, players vote in their House PMs for their House Prefect. Largest House elects two. Standard SE voting style, voting in red, with ties broken randomly. Prefect voting results are announced in House PMs only. These votes can not be affected by spells. The most voted for student may secretly choose an Extra Credit spell to learn and use once as early as Round Two. Only one spell may be held at a time. House Points Voting (Exe) During the investigation, you convince your House’s Head Professor to reward your allies and dock House Points from your foes. What an easily abused demerit system! The most penalized students might be killed, or worse, expelled! Players cast up to six votes* in their GM PM, all for different people: +3/+2/+1/-1/-2/-3. The rollover post will list the (modified) points accumulated by each student and, for reference, who each player voted for, pre-modification. Players may be penalized or rewarded based on their points total for the round, per the rules. Midnight. At the base of the marble staircase lay a body with a decapitated head. Well, nearly decapitated. “Nicholas!” screeched McGonagall as she pushed through the growing crowd to loom over the body. “It’s too late in the day for head games.” The ghost of Nearly Headless Nick gaped at her and sputtered incoherently. McGonagall suddenly stumbled back, clutching her neck, as a spectral viper lunged from Nick’s mouth and drew blood. “Expelliarmus!” shouted Pali, blasting it away. “Are you alright, Professor?” “A thousand apologies, Professor. Looks like the cat had my tongue, eh?” Nick floated to his feet. “I have… no memory of the past few minutes.” A second scream pierced the air. The students spun to look at the Great Hall, where a motionless body lay draped over the Sorting Hat’s stool. Its hand was holding an ornate silver sword, adorned with rubies. “Is he- he looks too old to be a student,” mused Nick. “Better do a head count!” As they approached, the body suddenly flickered and disappeared. Still bleeding, McGonagall kicked over the stool. “That. Was a very important sword. And where’s that bloody hat? Bring me the Weasley boys right now.” Leonidas piped up. “They’re with Filch.” “Fifty demerits anyway. To each of them. This school has a zero tolerance policy for bad behaviour.” She waved at Ceadach and Siannain. “Excluding athletes. We’re very excited for the upcoming season.” “I don’t want us to lose our heads here, but the symbology…” “Is of no concern to students. One hundred points to whoever finds that hat. Now go to your dorms. GO!” The Sorting Hat is missing, and someone maybe died? Time to vote for some prefects to help maintain order. -
A scream pierced the air. McGonagall froze, looking toward the Entrance Hall. "I'm sure it's nothing. Stop! Stop running!" Sighing, she put down the Hat and marched towards the cause of the commotion. This Cycle will end when Cycle One is posted, likely within an hour from now.

Rules updates: 1. Elim wincon is parity. 2. If an elim is removed from the game during Cycle One or Cycle Two, one remaining elim who does not currently know a spell gets to learn a vote manipulation spell for use as soon as the following Cycle. 3. Once during the game, one elim who does not currently know a spell may learn a non-Obliviate spell for use as soon as the Cycle they learn it in. 4. The largest house will elect two prefects. In the original series, this would be the Head Boy and Girl, but our interpretation is less concerned about matters of gender.

Cycle Zero: The Sorting Hat MR76 has begun! I'm your Headmaster, @Archer. Our Caretaker is IM @A Jo in the Bush. This cycle ends at 20:00 EST (GMT -4) on Friday, March 27th, or when all house selections have been made. This is a non-voting roleplay round. You must declare your House assignment in your GM PM, lest you be assigned to the smallest House. Rollover Zero House PMs are created. These are the only PMs in the game. Alignments are assigned. See Rules for more information. Signups September 2, 1991. The clock tower bell tolled eleven times. “Exactly five hours late,” announced Professor McGonagall. “Five demerits to each of you. Let's find out which houses you've let down.” She ushered the students into the now-empty Great Hall, which was littered with confetti and melted candles. At the front, a battered brown hat was trying to convince the house elves to feed it a rat. “Albus only gives me Werther's Originals. C’mon now… Professor! It’s not what it looks like!” She grabbed it by the tip, holding it face to face. “Sing your song or I’ll tell the Headmaster what really happened to his whiskey.” It’s hard to gulp without having a throat, but somehow the hat managed it. “Late children! I did my annual chore, Sang many quips and retorts. Now you all demand an encore? Good thing I’m never out of sorts! I’ll foretell how you will progress In ten seconds flat. Conveniently It’s a very rigorous process That always distributes evenly. I assigned to Hufflepuff once Every J-name that could be found. And I gave the snakes every dunce, Just to slow their scheming down. Trying to change houses is for naught. Age eleven, your traits are forever fixed. We teach spells, not critical thought, At Hogwarts School of Wizard and Witch. I’ll sort my favourites into Gryffindor, To our Trophy Room, many have entered. Driven and bold, like a lion’s roar. Slytherin’s all that, but more self-centered. Listen closely to my words, As I round out my lists. Ravenclaw gets the nerds, And… Hufflepuff also exists. Before you head to dorms, Know we’re in for a jolt. It’s the calm before the storm. Waiting for a lightning bolt. Some of you hold ill intentions, And have joined a cult of myth. But that’s barely worth a mention, Let’s get this over with!” “I’m sure it’s just joking. Line up please, first years. Once you’re sorted, the older students will guide you to your chambers.” It’s time for the first-years to be sorted!

And ruin my social experiment? Never! If you want to join a small house, you can submit an order for no selection and automatically be placed in the smallest one. That said, if you want to choose based on what best fits your character or who you want to share a PM with, this is your best opportunity to customize your game experience. This game is set the year before the events of the first book. General reminder as well that Cycle Zero starts with your late arrival to Hogwarts. -

GM PMs have gone out, although I won't roll the elim team until signups officially close. Cycle Zero is played before learning alignments. If you change your username during the game, please flag it to me and the players. Mippo and Emperor, yours have been noted already. I'm still fiddling with the balance, and will call your attention to minor rules changes that may result related to wincons and faction abilities. Spec doc will go out in around 11 hours, when the game officially begins. -

If the elims don't draw a red X over every person they kill, I'll be very disappointed Welcome! Glad to have you aboard. What, you think everyone on the fantasy author fan site will be a Ravenclaw? There are mechanical incentives to join smaller houses, and social incentives to make a party PM. It's not game-breaking if a house is missing. -

Welcome to the game! I'm expecting 13-14 players, so the elim win-con will likely change to parity. I'll announce that when the game begins. -

Thank you to all who have signed up! I can now confirm our start date of Wednesday March 25 at 8pm EST. I'll send out GM PMs that morning. Cycle Zero will end and Cycle One will begin when all players have declared their House selections. Cycle One will always end at the regularly scheduled time of Sunday March 29th 8pm. Sharing an IP address gets you flagged by the website for account duplication, so inform a site moderator if you plan on doing so. The only time I've seen someone get banned from playing SE is when they were clearly having game-related discussions with another player off-site. I've seen it work out (see: Burnt having no qualms about framing Hael in the last LG), but you need to be clear with each other that betrayals are okay and all discussion happens online. I'll PM you about it. -

Welcome to SE! I'll PM everyone when the game begins, at which point you may declare your house choice. Round Zero largely exists as an opportunity for roleplay and to coordinate house choices, if you so choose. If people are quick on the draw, I might shorten Zero and add the extra time to Round One. I look forward to meeting Miss Fallen -
Or Worse, Expelled!: A Harry Potter Mafia Game Welcome to MR76! I'm your Headmaster, @Archer. Our Caretaker is IM @A Jo in the Bush. Our start date is 20:00 EST (GMT -4) on Wednesday, March 25th. Gameplay: Round Zero You arrived late to your first day at Hogwarts. After Professor McGonagall rebukes your tardiness, she ushers you to a now-empty Great Hall and rouses the Sorting Hat from its slumber. This is a roleplay round. You must declare your House assignment in your GM PM, lest you be assigned to the smallest House. Rollover Zero House PMs are created. These are the only PMs in the game. Alignments are now assigned: Loyal Students: Win by expelling all members of the other team. Death Eater Students: Win by reaching parity with the other team. Conspire in Elim Doc. Can kill one student each round as a free action. Once during the game, one elim without a spell prepared may immediately learn a non-Obliviate spell. If an elim is removed in Cycle One or Two, one elim without a spell prepared may immediately learn a vote manipulation spell. (Spells can be learned and used in the same round.) Round One Prefect Voting This round only, players vote in their House PMs for their House Prefect. Prefect assignments come before the removals in OOO. Players may be penalized or rewarded based on their points total for the round: Lowest: Expelled! Player removed from game and alignment revealed. 2nd Lowest: Detention! Next round, either your positive or negative votes will not be counted (decided randomly). The effect is visible in the tallied points but not announced to anyone. 3rd Lowest: Homework! You are forbidden from sending PMs for the next round, but may receive messages. Applies to House PMs and Owl Mail only. 3rd Highest: Friendship! You are added to an additional, random House PM. If you have been removed, you are not allowed to speak in it. 2nd Highest: Owl Mail! You may receive one uncredited message of under 100 words from each player who was just removed. Players enter the Spec Doc after sending their message, or at the end of the round if not participating. GM sends message as soon as received. Highest: Extra Credit! You learn the spell of your choice to use once in a future round. Learning a spell makes you forget any previously learned spell, including those learned by Prefects. Order of operations is as listed, followed by the simultaneous removals, then spell learning: Obliviate: Secretly make a player forget the spell they know; no one is informed of the outcome. Protego: Prevent a player from being killed by the Death Eaters. No one will be told if the spell has any effect; it is indistinguishable from no kill being submitted. Silencio: Randomly make either a player’s positive or negative votes cast that round not be counted. Effect not announced to anyone, but is reflected in the tallied points. Stupefy: Randomly make either a player’s positive or negative votes not be counted until the following round. Effect not announced to anyone, but is reflected in the tallied points. Votes for already-removed players are not carried over. Votes are considered cast in the round they were made by the player, not in the round they appear. Example: *Additional Exe Voting Rules > Self voting is not allowed. > Ties are broken randomly, bumping the player not selected to the next tier. > Your GM will do his best to correctly interpret your voting intentions, but there is no recourse for miscommunication. Round One Rollover This round only, Prefect voting results are announced in House PMs. The writeups may look like this: Game play continues similarly. Rules Clarifications: *** August 29th, 1991. Diagon Alley. The burly man in a sweat-stained apron burst through the door, spilling sunlight into the quiet shop. The hunched figure in the corner rubbed his eyes before continuing his work. “Close the door, Bartholomew. Whose wand is better, that of the sage, or that of the mage?” “Dunno. Just you today, Ollie?” “I make wands because I’m short staffed.” “I bedder keep you company then.” “One can only wish for better company.” “I bet a treacle tart’ll change your mind. The bakery’s slammed with ruddy schoolchildren. I have bloody prints all over me window.” “You may put the box next to that order of the phoenix feathers.” “Risky business, that. Make sure you don’t gobble up fire by mistake!” “I’m extremely careful.” “What do you use ‘em for anyway?” “Each wand contains a chamber of secrets.” “Huh, never noticed, this one’s deffely hollow. What’s it made of?” “Just yew today.” “So whose wand is bedder, the sage or the mage?” “The sorcerers own a powerful artifact, while the philosophers own but a simple stick.” “How’s that work?” “To become a wizard, you have to believe that this stick-” Ollivander waved his hornbeam rod at the shop’s window, flipping the sign to read ‘Open’. “That this wand chose you. Add the treacle to my tab and begone. I have stories to sell to impressionable young minds.” Round Zero will begin at the Entrance Gates. Why not go shopping in the meantime? Sign-ups:

Nonsense, I was an honourary member of the BSSJ, which is adjacent to evil And yeah, good game (fellow) elims. It's really hard to keep it together during marathon games, and you all did remarkably well. And thanks to our game master for trying some new mechanics and providing some awesome RP storytelling. I had a lot of fun. (And again, villagers who made us exe Stick D3C, way to come through in the clutch) Which elim did the rupee tracking? I proud of you -

I turned on Mistfallen before I thought about e!you, and he's clearly village. I've got to remember that if I haven't been NKed yet, it's usually because I've been pocketed. I for one feel better about that D3B, because it didn't matter! -

Okay hear me out. The odds of one elim getting a blue mask D1A were 50%. That was Doc. The odds of two elims getting blue masks was a mere 25%. Divergent, Coco, and Wonko got blue masks. Therefore Twinstorm is more likely to be evil. I'm not voting for Mistfallen in light of the Scent/Stone gambit. -

Do we have to vote Doc, even though they Ophelia'd Thistle? The voting record says Coco is the last elim. My heart says Coco has never done anything wrong in their life and that we should kill TwinStorm instead.
