As for character death, not sure I can handle Dalinar. This is a very personal story and this character is so important for me. I can say I relate to him. With any other characters I did not built such strong emotional connection, if they all die, I'd be fine. But not with Dalinar.

Welcome! This topic is intended for new players or people who are thinking about joining the Alleyverse, or possibly just people who are curious as to what the deal is with these cookies. If that sounds like you then prepare yourself for the insanity that is the Alleyverse, if that doesn't sound like you then maybe just keep reading anyway and see if the madness convinces you to join. What is the Alleyverse? The Alleyverse is a Free Form Role Playing Game (FFRPG) played on the forum. It takes place in the Alleyverse, a universe where all of Brandons worlds and magic systems coexist. Hemalurgic monsters exist, as do Elantrians, Mistborn, Chasmfiends, Knights Radiant, Awakeners and a few poor saps trying to rebuild a city that we destroyed. Worldhoppers from all over the cosmere and beyond journey to the Alleyverse to interact with each other and the local guilds (More on them later). Players create characters within this universe and interact with each other in a group Role Play and collaborative story. How do I get started? Well if you have any specific questions feel free to ask them here and one of our moderators will try to answer them for you. But if you want to dive right into the deep end then you can try creating a character profile for yourself in the character creation thread and some of us will give feedback and help to workshop the character so that it can fit within the greater world of the Alleyverse. We also have a chat thread where a bunch of random discussions take place so it's a good idea to introduce yourself there so all the other players can know that you exist and say hi (Most of us don't bite). If you're curious about the world of the Alleyverse and want to learn more about it we have a 'Guide to the Alleyverse' thread here that has some more detailed information about the world, or we also have a wiki! And... That's more or less it. I'll have some frequently asked questions here that will hopefully grow over time, if you have any further questions feel free to ask us below. I hope you enjoy the rabbit hole of chaos and madness that we affectionately call the Alleyverse. FAQ Q. What is the deal with these cookies? A. Well this one is sort of on me, way back in the dark ages there was a poll on the forum for what your favourite magic system was, I replied that my favourite was Hemalurgy (Because it clearly is) and someone jokingly replied that I should be added to a list of 'people to avoid in Dark Alleys'. This was the unofficial birth of the guild known as the DA (Dark Alley). Now at the same point in time I also had a habit of sending people pictures of cookies when I was making theories, to bribe them into agreeing with me. Someone joined these two ideas and suggested that I was secretly putting Hemalurgic spikes into the cookies I was handing out and I played along until it eventually became associated with the DA. So now we occasionally hand out 'cookies' to people in introduction threads as our way of welcoming them to the forums and possibly gaining new test subjects recruits. Q. Someone told me not to eat the cookie. A. Well that's not a question but even so: don't listen to that person. Cookies are amazing and anyone who suggests otherwise is wrong by default. (Though there is a small chance that you'll lose your soul if you eat the cookie, but trust me it's worth it) Q. What are these guilds? A. Well that's a long and complex subject but basically most players and characters in the Alleyverse belong to a guild, these guilds each have different motives, resources and levels of affection for cookies. If you want to hear more about the guilds you could look in the Guilds section in the wiki for more details, or ask in the chat thread if anyone is recruiting. Announcement Regarding my Retirement from the Alleyverse RP: This is the third variation of this post that I have written so far. Alas, I have not gotten any better at it. I was not sure where to post this. There was a chance that it would get buried in the Homeless PM if I put it there, so I decided putting it on my profile would be better. Besides, this really is a status update. I love the Alleyverse. The community has been kind to me. It has been both my pleasure and my honour to RP with all of you. However, it takes a lot of my time and energy to do everything that I do in the Alleyverse. I have come to realize that my lifestyle, the amount of time I spend reading, writing, and thinking about Alleyverse related stuff, is unsustainable. So, I have decided to retire. After Era Two ends, I will be severely limiting my involvement in the Alleyverse RP. As part of this, I will be stepping down from my position as RP leader, and forfeiting all titles and roles associated to my involvement in any Alleyverse guilds (namely TUBA). To make it easier on everyone, I have decided to do this process gradually. I am committed to helping the transition process into the next era go smoothly, so up until about a week after the era begins, I will maintain my regular presence in the Alleyverse, assisting with the compilation of the list, RPing with characters (of which I will have none in E3), and providing input and ideas on planning threads. Up until that point, it’s business as normal. It would be unfair of me to abandon you during what will surely be a busy time. But once everything is up and running, I will quietly slip out the back door. My biggest worry about following through with this plan was what would happen to the list. Thankfully, Ookla the Meeker (formerly known as Mraize) has volunteered to take on the job. In future, you can expect to see him responding to posts on the Character Thread. I am not leaving forever (so save your goodbyes!). In future, I intend to visit the Shard once a week, probably on weekends. You may still see me on the forums, participating in the longest thread or roast battles. Anything that I enjoy but does not require long-term commitment. To a limited extent, I will still participate in social PMs. TUBA’s rarely gets used for anything on-topic anyways. But once again, my presence will be sporadic. Alleyverse PMs I will likely mute and/or put on read. If you would like to contact me, the best way will be to DM me through discord. I have not decided how active I will be on there yet. Or, you could send me a PM and wait until the next time I am on. There is no need to make this into a big deal. But if anyone has any questions, requests, or comments, you are welcome to post them. Hey all, just a hobby author interested in the Writing Excuses forums. If anyone has thoughts about how to handle writing information starved scenes, such as anything from the perspective of a newborn or a less than sentient animal (especially a newborn animal), that's the nut I'm trying to crack right now. It's hard to explain things if the point of view character lacks the needed context to understand, so it's been an interesting challenge.

I don't agree. It's not the investiture in the pigment, anymore than it's the investiture in the impurities of a gem that designate what spren it is able to hold and how. And as stated, I disagree here. The Investure involved in Awakening is the breath itself. A command is given, color is drained, and the investiture takes shape and acts. We don't know the mechanics of color drain beyond that it happens. Anything on the specifics of such is guesswork. This is an assumption. We don't know anything more specific about "burning" metal than we do about color drain. It provides more heat than the body produces per the descriptions in book. There's no mention of vibration anywhere to my knowledge. Of course there's an investiture lose. But again, your making an assumption. A shardblade cut limb also turns gray, but there is absolutely no investiture consumption, or awakening occurring there. The limb has just been severed spiritually. So why the color drain per your model? When nightblood feeds, color is drained where his vein like growth attach to the host. The color is obviously not the focus of that drain as it takes stormlight or breath or whatever else being held, and then moves on to the spark of life. The color drain here is a side effect. And from everything we've seen of it, unlike a shard severed limb or color drained in Awakening, this recovers. I will reiterate. I see no evidence that there is any "initial energy" needed that we are not told about in books or WoBs.

There are two separate things: 1) Via the Compounding Hack you can burn a filled metalmind and get a burst of the Feruchemical trait fueled by the Allomantic burn of the metal, wildly increasing the available stored Trait, but this is a "hack" of the two systems and you need to have access to both the Feruchemical and Allomantic version of the same metal. This is what Miles did, though it doesnt necessarily have use in every metals case. 2) Separately, you can store certain abnormal things in metalminds in certain circumstances. For example, you can store all kinds of senses in Tin metalminds, even the Life Sense from Breaths or allomantic Bronze. I would imagine burning Pewter while storing some of the others like heat or health or nutrition would likely mitigate the downsides of storing. Would probably work with double Pewter but at that point the full compounding Hack would be more efficient in most if not all ways.

Don’t Inquisitors have unnaturally long lives due to them being Hemalurgic constructs? My understanding was that the Inquisitors did not have any Compounded metallic abilities until after Rashek’s death, but that they still lived for a very long time. I’ll have to reread the Inquisitor PoV from FE again. Edit: I found it. Marsh tells Kelsier that they’re extremely long lived in chapter 27.

Yeah I feel it's unlikely.for Adolin to turn to Odium. For one, even before finding out the truth about the unfortunate demise of his mother, he loves his father faults and all. I feel like their relationship has grown into a mature friendship and while it may be strained for a little, I can't fathom Adolin turning to Odium. Possible OB spoilers?

Considering his writing, I think his views have evolved... But even if they haven't, he still chooses to depict people of differing beliefs than him as strong, capable, and human characters. Just look at Jasnah. She's a wonderful depiction of an atheist, that I relate strongly to, portrayed so well that many people who don't know Brandon's faith assume that he is an atheist himself after reading her. Whatever his beliefs are, if he's depicting these characters honestly and respectfully, then they're fantastic and thoughtfully written characters worth reading. Whether that is because of, or in spite of, his beliefs is irrelevant to me.

I don't know if it's confirmed yet, but in chapter 44 we have the probable Tarah sighting in Urithiru. It's the scene where Ishnah is teaching Veil's men espionage, and Veil is talking about the Alethi woman wearing the Thaylen dress with a brightly coloured blouse, who keeps looking over her shoulder like she's looking for someone. In chapter 112, Kaladin thinks about how she preferred old-fashioned Thaylen dresses, often paired with bright colored shirts.

His writing style has partially influenced Sanderson (Alcatraz is basically a younger version of one of his books), but Terry Pratchett is a fun guy to read. You can get books of any reading level from him, from children's to adult's. The Diskworld (his main universe, with about forty books in it) is a world, shaped like a disk, on the back of four elephants on the back of a turtle. Magic is real. Orangutans (DON'T call him a monkey) are librarians. Dwarves make weapons from bread. Trolls deal metallic narcotics. Wizards poke at things until they explode. Witches glare at things until they don't explode. A river is so full of junk that you can walk across the surface. Gods are real, but rather stupid. Reformed vampires drink coffee instead of blood. Werewolves become police(wo)men. Complex social issues are addressed in a light-hearted matter. And, very importantly, you learn to not fear Death. He likes curry. And cats. *cough* I suggest Pratchett, not for his world-building - which can sometimes be scatterbrained, though it doesn't matter - but for his ability to take our fears and turn them upside down. He does the same thing for prejudice. And he tickles your funny bone. Some quotes, to end my lecture. "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. I think that's already happened, she just won't admit it. Look at her reaction in this exchange, and compare it to her other repression. Add in her illusion of Radiants armor being correct for her order, despite her supposedly never having seen it... I think our dead fractured Lightweaver has more secrets from herself.

Brandon mentions in a couple of WoBs the mechanics of the bridges that Kaladin and the crew were carrying but most of the material didn't make it into the actual book.

ah i need to stop reading these i cant blink anymore i feel like i have ironeyes. anyhow i am not going to hoid the fact that im more of a storyteller rather than a pun maker so i will just "stick" to what i am and tell a story. this morning i went to put change in my first union bank when my coinshot away. the coin lurched away and fell under a table. i had to go and lift the dinner table to retrieve it. i stood back up and felt my eyes drawn to the window. i then noticed the gathering storm outside. it was misting up and i nearly started weeping because it had rained constantly for the last few weeks the sun was but a memory of light. outside a lightning bolt disintegrated a tree, i tensored up waiting... odium is that the time. I have to hurry my time here is wayning. storm it my dad took my car again. I just put on a new coat of wax. he had better not take it through the miles rough trails outside the city. a-don-al-sium later and tell him to stop taking my car then. if he crashes it he had better hope that he has a hundred lives because that would be the second thing he ruined of mine today. first he splintered my bow earlier today he didn't even apologize, he only has a sliver of honor. alright enough of this story this started low and went down from there. this story is over im dun writing. i doubt this story awakened you to the beauty of literature, managed to steel you heart, spike your emotions, or even that it took you breath away but what can i say im not that good of a storyteller.
