  1. @ShardplateJoe III which of the forces do you align with Change? and which Command would you align with the other forces? @Autobrecciation I like the idea. Knights Radiant get access to 2 Surges. each Surge related to a Dawnshard. that would also explain how there are proto-Surges that predate the Shattering. its the Dawnshard Command in a purer form. the Surges are a mixture of 2 Commands. Change could result in a proto-Regrowth for example.
  2. Kant. 1. Unity 2. Reality 3. Substance 4. Possibility or 1. Exist 2. Change 3. Interact 4. Think 1. Beyond 2. Physical Realm 3. Spiritual Realm 4. Cognitive Realm I like theorizing about the Dawnshards. so many possibilities.
  3. thats the kicker. if Kaladin believed that it was NOT right to protect Elhokar we would be able to kill him without breaking his oath. "right" in this is based on Kaladins on perception of it. not a clear cut set of rules. if Kaladin believes that Roshar is better off with Elhokar gone then there is nothing holding him back I'd say. in the scene with Adolin he is driven by rage in a meaningless sparring duel. there was no ulterior motive that could justify his actions. so Syl dipped. if you think about it, Kaladin is actively killing the true owners of Roshar and it does not contradict his oaths since he believes that he is doing the right thing and protecting people with his actions. if Kaladin one day changes his mind about this... hello recreance 2.0. depends on the authority. Szeth is insane so he gives someone else control. someone who he believes is not insane. and just. its pretty much what the Law does. the Law being the higher authority. police, the military and so on have to act according to the Law.
  4. the 5th ideal is interesting and what you said fits very well. now Nale, he tells Szeth not to follow him since he knows that his grip on sanity is not firm anymore. this means Nale is calling his own conclusions into question. by becoming the Law he should also be a suitable guideline. he himself thinks otherwise, but it still does not stop him from acting according to it. which is perfectly in line with the other ideals and his statments. hes not looking for perfection. only for consistency. and he has found it. albeit a mad consistency. I like the Skybreakers more than the Windrunners. the follow a fixed set of rules while Windrunns act according to each and everyones own morality. a morality that can change on a day to day basis. if Kaladin did not get into a moral conflict about Elhokar he may could even have killed him himself and kept his oaths. as long as he perceived it as right. this is something I very much dislike in Kalading, the Windrunners or people in general. the Skybreakers are the better order and Szeth is the better man. he knows he can not trust himself anymore and leans on to someone he thinks he can trust. Kaladin on the other hand is a ticking time bomb. morally speaking.
  5. theres a quote about Odium (?!?) that he has Ados hatred without the rest that gave it context. meaning that the rest of the attributes keep the hatred in check and not that theres another attribute that completely nullifies it. so even if there was a polar opposite of each attribute that still would not mean that one attribute can not be dominate. it was said that one Dawnshard was different. whatever that difference is. @Azarias "Live" is also just "Change". "Return" would fit better cause after something stopped living/being it would return to the place it came from. and I don't mean stop existing. I mean return. the mass, the atoms, the investiture or w/e. returning to its original state then beginning anew.
  6. the wording makes it sound like the only thing the magic system on Nalthis does is making Investiture stick to the spiritweb. all the rest is the same principle as the Dawnshards. Commands and Intent are a general cosmere rule. more Breaths means becoming more Devine. with enough divinity an Awakener is able to use Commands on things. take it to extreme and an awakener could create Dawnshard like Commands. makes me wonder if Awakeners could order something to Change instead of becoming alive.
  7. interesting. then you get "healed" to a version you perceive yourself as. that would also mean that every injury, no matter how long in the past, can get healed. as long as the perception of oneself is without that injury.
  8. other threads contain basically the same ideas. I only see the difference in how its worded. 1. live 2. die 3. change 4. remain 1. make 2. destroy 3. change 4. survive 1. be 2. return 3. change 4. last always the same principles 1. form something from something (investiture -> into souls for example) 2. return it to its original form (souls eventually return into the investiture pile) 3. change its form (soul gets altered into a different soul, by growth or experience) 4. make the form resillient (souls resist outside influences to get altered) I feel like the last one needs an explanation. take the stick. its so confortable in its role as a stick that it resists becoming something else. before it was a dead stick it was part of a plant that grew. it changed on its own. you can also force change. for example, by burning the stick. NOTE: 2. is basically what Nightblood does, imo
  9. I thought this was just how the Dawnshard interpreted Rysns progress. she adapted. she changed. into something else. she was Remade. since this is according to the Dawnshards command its written with a capital letter. when something is made it starts existing on all 3 realms. Unmade may only exist in 1 or 2 of the 3. they got severed from the rest and thus "unmade".
  10. even if the commands may not perfectly fit I belie that the constellation of Surges and Shards are very likely a combination of Dawnshard attributes. for Perservation and Ruin this would easily fit Perservation: Remain / Remain Ruin: Change / Change polar opposites for Odium, Honor and Cultivation its not so easy anymore and requires sort of logical leaps. Connect could also be Seperate or Interact. Odium: Connect / Change Honor: Unite / Unite Cultivation: Change / Unite Honor and Cultivation get along well as they have the same secondary attribute without having polar opposite primary attributes. Odium wants constant change and interaction. essential life in fast forward. or disarray. Dominion: Unite / Connect -> bring under control Devotion: Unite / Remain -> stay loyal this would make Devotion the polar opposite of Odium. Loyalty to a single thing vs Hatred for everything. it also fits that the Shards can be interpreted differently. Odium could also mean progress. not evolutionary like Cultivation, but for societies. an alternative thought of mine regarding Dawnshards was: 1. exist 2. stop existing 3. remain 4. change but here there would be no distinction between 1 of the Dawnshards. exist could be the special one. there is no "stop existing". everything returns to the void and comes back. investiture is never lost. only transformed. I just can't seem to find a fitting thing for 2. idk, maybe return.
  11. one is meant in the sort of way that everything is one!?! like in religion. investiture is all the same everywhere. everyones soul is investiture. in the beyond they all go back to the same place again. investiture can not get lost. everything is a different form of the same thing. that sort of unity. and the other was supposed to be the interaction between the individuals. with places, with each other, or with objects. in other words: 1. exist 2. ineract 3. remain (once form is taken) 4. change
  12. Gravity: Unite gravity can not be shielded against and is infinite. it unites everything. eventually. Electromagnetism: Connect interaction between anything. also infinite. can repel and can attract. Strong interaction: Remain/Survive holds everything together. Weak interaction: Change transforms atoms. beta particles can cause mutations. I know all of them are quite a stretch :-)
  13. conflicted. the nature of the Dawnshards is good. the effects it has on Rysn are less amazing than they should be. considering what they are. or maybe the Dawnshard can only carry you to the 5th hightening. which should still be noticable by others. Rysn becoming one is something I'd rather not have. well.
  14. so the Lightweaving said: I am to con Fused.
  15. the process seems similar to bonding a spren. Nalizar and Harding became Rithmatists by being posessed by Forgotten. if you don't get to see a Shadowblaze you won't get to "bind" it. Nalizar and Hardings example show that people can become Rithmatists at any moment in their life. which means, technically everyone is possibly a Rithmatists.
  16. Nalizar wonders why "they" (supposedly the Shadowblazes) did not want him. as this was planned as another cosmere book I assume the Shadowblazes have some sort of foresight or precognition. like Shards. or parts of them. Joels more valuable as a non-Rithmatists for reasons we do not yet know. I doubt Joel did anything wrong nor that his age or the coin had any relevance. hes part of a plan now.
  17. theres the issue. you can become a squire by remote association. you can not do the same in Allomancy. you don't become a misting by befriending a Mistborn. half (lowballing) the Kholin family became Radiants. Bridge Four now has how many full Radiants? 4? Kaladin, Teft, Renarin, Lopen. at least its somehow offset by the large amount of Fused and that they are constantly reborn. still not a fan of it
  18. Stormlight Archives would be better if not everyone and their grandmother became a Knight Radiant or a squire.
  19. I am not a fan of a final battle. its too clicheé and doesn't quite fit. Hoid is the obvious proof that at least 1 cosmere wide plot exists. one that will carry great weight. I highly doubt it will end up as the worlds longest red herring. I am hoping for a cosmere wide conclusion of the events, not a battle. planet wide battles already happened an the planets were left intact. no need to push it further. also, think about how this would look? the fight between Vin and Ati was already abstract enought. that doesn't make for a good read.
  20. 2 possible reasons that directly come to my mind. 1. not necessary. worldhoppers and cosmere aware often have other ways to be harmful to others 2. gunpowder and/or bullets not readily available for Roshar, the society is build arround fabrials more than technology.
  21. there are not suddenly more bridges to go arround. still, going from hours to weeks is too much,
  22. know? no. a bond is a bond. what happens with the voidspren is that they inhabit the gemhearts. Venlis highspren traps her voidspren. not sure if it could inhabit the heart if the voidspren was not already there. I don't think it would. thats not how the bond works as humans have not gemheart. interesting question. maybe Venli will be able to do both. bond the spren to access the surges and use it to alter herself. if you bond the spren then you enter the Nahel bond. I guess you mean if there are other ways to access the surges then bonding. technically, that is what Shardblades do. sort of. except you don't get the surges of course.
  23. quite a liberal use of the phrase. outside of secondary source we get not much information on Nightblood in the book. we only know it used to be steel (according to Vasher) and that it took 1000 breaths to make. both answer OPs question though. steel and breath. tada. what we can guess is that Nightblood is able to learn and progress. Vasher thinks it can't, but its very apparent. https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?tags=nightblood
