I think Retribution wants people to come to him; it benefits his popularity base if he just gives it out to anyone who goes through the motions. After a few weeks? Months? Years? They may actually be on board with him.

I think we're going to see the inverse of what happened with Sazed. He starts as Harmony, does some really good stuff etc. He is sliding slowly into Discord because the Intents are opposed. For now Honor and Odium like the war. It suits both of them. Dalinar has planted the seed for Honour to expand the definition of Honour through observing the harm that comes from just keeping oaths. Retribution is going to become more and more impotent the long that goes on I think. Taravangian knows he has to make oaths carefully now. The power is going to observe a shrewd operator unlike Tanavast who did a lot of oathing and a lot of breaking. I think it's going to learn from the context of these oaths.

With all Dalinar's talk of Growth towards the end I really was expecting a Cultivation + Honour mash up.

My guess is it's like "You're not allowed to sing anymore" doesn't mean you can't hear other people singing. I wonder if something like a Connection edit has been done to El. I think he is probably content with losing them as he stands by his actions. It seems he defied Rayse or something? His conviction remains and the Power respected it so much that Rayse couldn't destroy him maybe?

I think trapping his investiture in the gem cut him off completely from the Oathpact; which would give the same impression as that investiture disappearing forever. I wonder if they had a perfect gem stone; or a way to reinforce a spirit web they could trap a herald permenantly.

I wonder about two things, could Rayse have done such minor things but didn't. He was 10,000 years into being a Shard and probably very disconnected from "humanity" in subtle ways. A God does not close the door. Alternatively, Taravangian is more Connected to Roshar so has the capacity to do it?

It would be cool, I think El's idealogy involves the deprecation of the Fused and having mortals take care of their own affairs. Ideally no Heralds required.
