I remember it being said that a dead Shardplate grants the strength of 20 men to its wearer, but I can't find the quote now. A living Shardplate should be comparable. Dalinar stopped a Chasmfiend claw and kicked bodies 20 ft into the air so we can clearly conclude that it's a lot.

The text does support that, that's what happened in the book. Shallan and Renarin walked on the manifested Tower in the CR while trying to prevent Ghostbloods from accessing Dalinar's perpendicularity. WaT ch 31:

Hard to say. I think those effects would be minimal on him. Yes, he had more Preservation in him because he made himself into a powerful Mistborn, but he also was a Sliver of Preservation which was a more important factor. However, despite this he wasn't a Cognitive Shadow - his soul was not infused and replaced by investiture making him like a spren. Cognitive Shadows do indeed suffer personality changes and madness, being often driven by a singular intent. Rashek wasn't like this. He didn't suffer supernaturally induced mental illnesses, his mental problems were caused by his own isolationism and mental pressures he was dealing with. But this should have no effect on his decision to turn Feruchemists into Mistwraiths and later destroy his people. He made himself into a Mistborn as the last action he took using the power of the Well, plus the effects of this investiture on his personality wouldn't have manifested immediately, it takes a long time for that. All of those decisions were made out of fear of being rivaled and rejected. Rashek was always overly ambitious and jealous even before his Ascension. He thought Terris people should rule as they are better than others, he couldn't accept the fact that a foreigner was the Hero of Ages and was so jealous over achievements of other cultures, that eventually he included them in his empire. He already was a person who could commit terrible atrocities for the sake of self-preservation before his Ascension. Also, he didn't kill his friends, he gave them immortality. And he did try to end the Final Empire once. His sense of self-preservation wasn't that overwhelming to be caused by investiture. SA spoiler WoBs:

Mistwraiths were made by Rashek during his Ascension, there is no known way to turn a human into a Kandra without using Shardic powers. Kelsier is still Kelsier, but his body might be that of a Mistwraith who consumed his bones and recreated his body and then Kelsier stampled his soul into this Mistwraith. We don't know this for sure, but there are clues suggesting this is the case.

Where Towerlight is still accessible. Shallan said they are using it to manifest food and water.
-
The Sibling still produces Towerlight which is everywhere in Urithiru. Vasher can grab it easier than Stormlight. He doesn't need Warlight or Lifelight.

There are ways to achieve what Dalinar did with Nohadon, Evi and Tien that don't involve the Beyond. This can be explained by either him reaching to the Beyond and Connecting to the real person there, or reaching to the Spiritual Realm and Connecting to the Spiritual remnants of their Spirit Web, making raw investiture take up their form as a sort of puppet to interact with. We won't know if the Beyond is real, but what's happening with Nohadon's visions can be explained without it (even if he's really dead). -
TLM Ars Arcanum hinted this problem affects only modern spikes - spikes made and received before Catacendre aren't affected by Identity Contamination. Marsh can compound. This shouldn't work. Identity inside of a spike remains the same all the time, you can't contaminate it with another identity as far as we know. You can't even reuse a spike which already has a Hemalurgic charge and steal something else with it from another donor because mismatched identities would prevent it (but you can use it on the same donor again, if he survives). Yes, the simplest solution in your case is to make sure the Soulbearer is blanked out of his Identity before spiking him and to always blank your own identity while using unkeyed metalminds. Theoretically it's not that hard (as far as we know and we know very little about this, there might be something we are missing here), but good luck convincing 32 people to blank their identities before you rob or kill them. Well, one WoB did say burning a spike splices your Spiritual DNA with the sDNA inside the spike, but others said it wouldn't graft its power and it's almost impossible to burn a Hemalurgic spike because it is a very painful process, which would knock you unconscious. And of course, identities must match. In the end we don't know what it does and we have conflicting WoBs about this.

We have no details, but I think even a slight mismatch between Identities will prevent compounding. For example you can't unkeyed yourself and use a keyed metalmind, so I think if there is a mismatch between the identity of the Allomantic power and the Feruchemical power you can't compound. Either it's all yours, or all blank. TLM ch 28:

How do you feel about inter-species…
alder24 replied to christianrapper's topic in Cosmere Discussion
True. Someone on Scadrial thought that those not so smart, blue, 13 feet skinless brutes with their bloodied body torn by countless wounds, who can't stop growing are hot and nobody said anything about it on the forum. Yet, here we are, six pages in and still counting... -
Hard to say, but the fact that he once was a Dawnshard before and his soul was warped by it (which is something everyone knows about) was the main reason for it. Odium might have spotted some of the Dawnshard's effects on Hoid's soul but he dismissed it as his Torment from the past Dawnshard and he didn't realize Hoid is a Dawnshard once more. Moreover, I suspect that you can hide a Dawnshard just like you can hide a Divine Breath - invest it deep within yourself. All of the visible effects of being a Dawnshard would be suppressed and Taravangian just couldn't see it or he confused it with his Torment and his Breaths. Killing Hoid would result in dropping the Dawnshard, revealing the truth. WaT I-15:

Silver is not an Allomantically viable metal. In fact it was known and used during the Final Empire times specifically in cells against Allomancers (Vin's cell in Fadrex used silver for metal objects). Even Vin's earring contained silver on its outer layer. Moreover electrum is an alloy of gold and 55% silver and it doesn't kill anybody. Silver doesn't destroy investiture (investiture like energy can't be destroyed), it seems like silver disrupts the Connection between investiture and the Spiritual Realm, while aluminum just blocks it. HoA ch 54:

Sounds cool, it might work, we don't actually know how F-nicrosil works. But there is one single thing that will prevent this whole idea from working - identity contamination stops Hemalurgic compounding. While you made sure to convince every "volunteer" to store their identity, the Ferring you've spiked didn't do this, thus his spike is contaminated with his identity (there might be something more to it, once more we don't know). You can't compound, you can't multiply your storages, you will be a Fullborn only for as long as all those "volunteers" stored their powers for - a few minutes/hours or so (if F-nicrosil works like all other metalminds). Not a long time. We also don't know if you can store powers held by a spike inside a Nicrosilmind, because technically they are not a part of your Spirit Web, they are wired into it but they are investing a spike. But what is stopping all those Metalborns from using their powers to kill you and claim your spike and metalminds for themselves? What's stopping them from refusing to cooperate? This idea might work on paper, but in practice it will fall apart.

There is, the answer is "it depends." However there is a WoB saying that Kaladin has no special or secret heritage so the theory that he's the literal son of Tanavast or another Herald is dead on arrival. My personal farfetched theory is that the Stormfather saw Kaladin as an ideal Vessel of Honor - we know the Stormfather had his own plans regarding Honor's power and that he needed a person who didn't want to Ascend. Kaladin fits this so maybe the Stormfather was secretly grooming Kaladin to become the Vessel of Honor.

Kelsier's Decension? Is Harmony "wrong"?
alder24 replied to Qianweilian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hoid has never held a Shard. Hoid said it wasn't a full Ascension and that could only be Vin Ascending to the power of the Well, giving it up instead of using it to maintain Ruin's prison. -
There were none. Seons and Skaze were created during the Splintering of D&D.

Kelsier's Decension? Is Harmony "wrong"?
alder24 replied to Qianweilian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think Hoid simply doesn't know Kelsier holds Preservation for this short period of time. How long Kelsier was a Shard? A few days or weeks at most? He missed Taravangian's Ascension so he probably missed Kelsier's Ascension because he didn't pay much attention to Preservation who was impotent at this time. There was no change in Preservation's behaviour he could have noticed, there was not much that Preservation could have done anyways so it would have been very easy for him to miss. And while Sazed did mention it in the Words of Founding, I highly doubt Hoid read all 80+ massive tomes filled with religious, philosophical and other knowledge Sazed had in his Copperminds - Hoid seems to be much more interested in romance novels than something like that. And while the release of Ruin was inevitable, Vin's decision was wrong - it led to the death of more than 99% of the Scadrian population. It's hard to call it a good decision, even though it had to be done one day and it was the only way of dealing with Ruin for good. -
He couldn't have done this because he made an Oath with Honor preventing him from attacking first, but he can use his powers in self-defence. He could kill Tanavast because when he did it, he was no longer the Vessel of Honor. WaT ch 122:

He's working alone for the good of Scadrial. He was investigating the Set in Era 2, so it looks like he works for Harmony (either on his direct order or Marsh himself tries to help despite Sazed indecisiveness). He said in TLM that he's hunting those who try to harm Scadrial. However, because he was running out of Atium, he became too weak to actively stop them, thus he was just investigating what's going on with the Set and Trell and he wanted to grab their Atium if they were to create it. In general he feels guilty for his actions during Era 1 and he tries to atone for the death he caused. In AoL he intervened against Harmony's wishes and gave Marasi Spook's book, once again showing he's helping to stop those who work against Harmony and their homeworld. Plus he's regularly meeting up with Kelsier so it's likely they share some information even though they don't work together, but they share the same goal. TLM ch 28:

Harmonium is not an alloy of Atium and Lerasium and it hadn't existed before Sazed Ascended to Ruin and Preservation and became Harmony. It's pretty much impossible for Harmonium to be responsible for the first Feruchemist - it may be able to make them now, but it couldn't in the past. Also the properties of an god metal depend on the Vessel who holds the Shard and so I think it's unlikely that Leras and Ati would be able to create the same Harmonium Sazed can now. However, the Scadrian god metals can be used to create a Feruchemist. We don't know which ones or how to use them to become a Feruchemist, but it's possible. I suspect Atium-Lerasium alloy might be able to bestow Feruchemy on the person who burns it. It's also possible to use the power of the Well of Ascension to change your Spirit Web and make yourself into a Feruchemist. Rashek was able to change his soul and become an Allomancer with the power of the Well, becoming an Feruchemist shouldn't be much different. Sazed was also able to make Spook into a full Mistborn and this suggests both Shards should be able to grant Feruchemy directly to a person of their choosing (that would be possible before they started to oppose each other). Ferrings did exist pre-Catacendre, they were extremely rare. Ferrings happened because of Allomantic genes reacting and breaking apart Feruchemical genes. Snapping isn't gone in Era 2, or rather Sazed makes sure that violent Snapping isn't needed anymore. He changed it. Mistborn can theoretically happen without genetics - Lerasium. You can also use spikes to steal every Allomantic power to yourself, which would make you a Mistborn. Also, the Bands of Mourning make you into one as well, so there are tools that can make you into a permanent or temporary Mistborn. Malwish didn't have any Mistborn, they have discovered Mistings only recently after Kelsier saved them. Alendi was a Seeker but that was because he was Snapped by the Mists, just like Demoux was. Back then Allomancy didn't exist in the population (it started with Rashek giving Lerasium to kings), but when the Well became full every 1024 years, the Mists started to Snap people as a response to the possibility of Ruin getting free, which created weak Mistings. However, nobody was aware of Allomancy during Alendi's times so even though there were weak Mistings, they didn't know about those powers and what could be done with them. Rashek changed this by creating strong Lerasium Mistborns, whose strong genes became the foundation for the whole lineage of Allomancers during the Final Empire. BoM ch 21: WoBs:

The storm on Selish CR is the Dor and it's because of their death. Odium pushed their investiture from the Spiritual Realm to the Cognitive Realm and stuffed it there, to prevent anyone from Ascending to D&D. This created a deadly storm because investitures of Devotion and Dominion are opposed to each other (just like it was with Preservation and Ruin). The clash of three Shards near Threnody created waves of destruction that mutilated Threnody, created Shades, the Evil and all this dangerous stuff. What we see on Threnody is a direct consequence of this fight and subsequent Splintering of Ambition, which was kind of similar to the Splintering of D&D which ended with Dor in the Cognitive Realm. Why would they care about people living as Drabs in a society where giving up Breaths is mandatory? If they took steps to take the choice away from people on this matter, it means they don't care about them, they care only about Breaths. They would force them to become Drabs the moment people can say the words "my Breath to yours" with an intent - as a small kid. This would be also beneficial for the ruling class as most people wouldn't even remember their lives with Breaths and they wouldn't know what they are missing. They would think living as a Drab is normal and would be brainwashed to think having a single Breath doesn't make any difference. Minimizing the damage caused by "drabism" and having mandatory transfer of Breaths doesn't really go hand to hand.

Number five is Endowment's number. Tears of Edgli has five petals, there were Five Visions, Five Scholars, five God Kings, the Fifth Heightening is equal to the Divine Breath and many other things. The number five appears over and over again in Warbreaker and on Nalthis, so it's most likely Endowment's number. Edit: I think three is Cultivation's number. This number appears very often in SA and it might be connected to Cultivation because of that.

[Discuss] Did Cultivation Plan Odium’s Champion?
alder24 replied to RedBlue's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ishar, the Wind, the Sibling, Aux and even Shallan all stated that Cultivation fled, and the word "to flee" means to run away. The Wind even said she was fearful, just what Taravangian has said. WaT ch 144: WaT ch 145: WaT ch 147: While it is possible that Cultivation wanted to get out of Roshar, I am not convinced that she wanted Odium and Honor to be combined under this version of Taravangian. She worked too hard to persuade Taravangian to "do what is right" and even a part of Taravangian admitted he can do what she wanted and he should do it. Uniting Honor and Odium under Taravangian who was full of compassion and love might have been her goal and it might have resulted in her being safely released from Roshar, but for me it looks like what she got wasn't what she hoped for. Who would win a fight to the death Hoid or Vin
alder24 replied to saze's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's not a singular ability coded in his Spirit Web like Allomancy or Feruchemy. His whole soul was warped and changed by him holding a Dawnshard for such a long period of time that he can heal basically anything. It's more similar to Savantism which can't be stolen with a spike. However Nomad in TSM was able to partially siphon a part of his Dawnshard Torment responsible for preventing him from causing harm, so who knows what can be stolen with a spike from Hoid.
