  1. Just finished the first book and noticed this reference to the Count of Monte Cristo.
  2. I suspect that even if these overpowered stunts were possible, Syl wouldn't approve of them. Killing men in battle is one thing, but using tricks that can't be predicted or defended against to slaughter an entire army doesn't seem honorable or like something Syl would agree to do. Another spren might do it, but I believe that the ones most likely to are the ones associated with the non-fighting orders.
  3. My favorite character didn't make it onto the list. A certain talking sword and I will be over here destroying evil together…
  4. Amazon changed the release date to 6/29 for all versions of the book.
  5. You don't have any oaths or moral restrictions with an honorblade. Syl would never have given Kaladin permission to go around slaughtering innocents with powers they couldn't defend against. Szeth had no trouble doing that. We really don't know that much else about them yet. Remember, there were thousands of years between that quote and when we see Szeth use the honorblade. Knowledge of their use would have been lost, especially without the Heralds instructing how to properly use them.
  6. The quote says an almost divine skill. I suspect that a visible effect on the guilty would be considered divine. It also says making. I suppose this could mean making judgements, but the wording leads me to think otherwise.
  7. Rereading WoR, I noticed the chapter 55 epigraph. I believe this quote refers to the special effect of the Skybreakers. Unfortunately, the special effect is never actually said. There is another quote from this same page and chapter. This epigraph is for the chapter directly before the other one, which leads me to believe that it is before the other quote. Perhaps there are clues to the special effect in these quotes. Any thoughts?
  8. The Nightwatcher. I like my body, mind, and soul the way they are. Would you rather have a conversation with Khriss where you could ask about all the Cosmere's magic systems or a conversation with Hoid about the history of the Cosmere?
  9. Based on this quote from someone asking about the forum rules, I anticipate we will learn more about Autonomy.
  10. I think that if someone had tried to use Soulforgery on Szeth to make him a mass murderer before he became Truthless it would have been immediately rejected. I think the screams are something similar--his soul trying to "reject" his actions because they are not plausible enough due to the way he was raised and his devotion to the law.
  11. Binding reminds me of the Bondsmiths. There were multiple Dawnshards. Maybe each one corresponds to a different order. Not sure how that would connect to the Parshendi. Maybe Honor gave them to the Parshendi but took them back and gave them to humans as part of his betrayal?
  12. I think it should be mentioned that another thing was involved during the time of the Shattering. Adonalsium may have been functionally inert not because of OIS, but because anything it tried to do was opposed by the anti-Adonalsium. Killing Adonalsium may have been an attempt for some (the good ones) to keep the anti-Adonalsium away. Besides, the spren are Splinters of Honor. Some of them have conflicting Intents, like Honorspren and Cryptics, but together they made the Shard of Honor.
  13. Amazon says that the hardcover will come out 6/28 and the kindle & comixology version will come out on 6/22. It seems the e-books will be coming out earlier than the physical ones.
  14. I was under the impression that any mortal could live forever if they became heavily Invested enough. Isn't there a WoB somewhere about how good is very hard to kill and if you cut off his head he would grow a new body? That might explain why atium compounding does not lead to immortality. The person isn't any more Invested, the metals are. I wonder how heavily Invested dragons are?
  15. The last chapter is something like two blind men contemplating beauty? Or a character trying to outrun a highstorm? I've said before that I think the ending will come from the in-universe Way of Kings. Specifically, a character walking to Urithiru.
  16. Denth. It shows just how incredibly awesome and clever Vasher really is.
  17. I doubt that the metals match the passive abilities, as many of them are very similar. You mentioned enhanced physical abilities with Stormlight, but that is a side effect of being Invested. With enough Breaths, someone won't get old or sick. If they match up, they probably match the intents of the shards. Nicrosil makes sense for Endowment, but I'm not sure about any others.
  18. Right now my current theory is that Hoid ground it into a powder, mixed it with ink, and got a tattoo. Partly because I think it fits what we know well, and partly because I want Hoid to have a tattoo.
  19. Dominion and Devotion always make me think of some kind of abusive relationship. Skai - abusive, controlling Aona - rationalized staying into complete loyalty Their Shards Intents most likely have nothing to do with their relationship, though.
  20. My theory on the Shattering of Adonalsium: Adonalsium is like a closet. When it shattered, a bunch of shirts, pants, and shoes came spilling out. Each vessel got one shirt, one pair of pants, and one pair of shoes based on their style of clothing. Another set of sixteen would have the same clothes, but not necessarily the same sixteen outfits. In non bad metaphor form, Adonalsium had natural fault lines. The Connection of the sixteen influenced what fault lines it was broken on. However, there would have been chunks of power that stayed together no matter who shattered it, as Adonalsium could only be divided on some combination of those fault lines.
  21. The weapon no longer exists in its original form. Adonalsium no longer exists in its original form. Perhaps the weapon was made with Adonalsium's own power.
  22. Brandon decided that the easiest way to write a bad book would be to write something with no plot or characters. When he finished writing it, he titled it the Ars Arcanum.
