  1. Granted. You are immediately killed by Darkness. I wish to be Hoid's apprentice and companion as he Worldhops.
  2. When you read a list of things you can't discriminate against people for(including race, gender, and nationality) and are surprised that eye color isn't on it. Then you realize that of course it isn't because Alethi culture supports eye color discrimination.
  3. A Guide to Feruchemy. I need to start storing wakefulness now so that I can read Oathbreaker in one sitting when it comes out.
  4. When you hear that the topic in Psychology for the day is false memories and your first thought is we're learning about Forgery.
  5. I was actually trying to agree with you in my last post… I suppose I didn't do a very good job. More than anything, I was trying to make the point that the orders don't have a monopoly on their order's traits. Every KR is still human and still has as complex and varied a personality as anyone else. You can't just point to one instance when Adolin acted stubbornly and say he should be a Stoneward because of that. Everything we've seen about the bonding process seems to indicate that the Soren watch the people that they bond with for a while before any bond exists. Soren make these decisions after observing someone's motives and actions over a long period of time, and so should we. I think that when we do that for Adolin, he fits best with the Edgedancers.
  6. Kaladin was raised to save lives. He's known it would be his job to care for others since he was young. I think Kaladin views caring for others as his duty more than anything else. Besides Kaladin hated all Lighteyes indiscriminately for well over a book. I think part of what makes Edgedancers loving is that they care for people they don't know, people that others in their position would just ignore. Kaladin just doesn't have that same view. In any case, it's not fair to say that Edgedancers are the only loving group. The first ideal involves choosing to uphold life. Even Jasnah, who we've seen kill people without remorse, wants to stop the Desolation and save lives. Caring seems to be a general requirement for every order.
  7. My impression from when Shallan Soulcast the ship was that any object could change in the physical realm if it had enough sentience in the cognitive realm and it wanted to change. All Shallan really did was convince the ship that it should change. Although I assume there is also some way tfor experienced Soulcasters o Soulcast items that don't want to change, since I doubt a person's body would want to turn into smoke.
  8. I don't think that Salinar's boon has anything to do with his family becoming Radiants for one main reason. The Nightwatcher assigns books based on what she thinks you deserve. Would a man as terrible as the Blackthorn really deserve something so great? I like the idea that shshshsh killed herself or Dalinar killed her while drunk. My other idea was that shshshsh never actually died. She wasn't Alethi; maybe she just got sick of Dalinar as the Blackthorn and went back to her homeland. Dalinar lied to everyone and said she died out of shame and guilt. Or she could have faked her own death before leaving.
  9. I don't think Dalinar meant that he couldn't remember being young. He said that he'd never felt young. In some ways he actually kind of reminds me of Jasnah. They both value ability and seem willing to kill without remorse. They were also both described as feeling older than their actual age. I don't think he's really that similar to Szeth. Szeth hated everything he was forced to do, and Dalinar barely needed an excuse to kill.
  10. Dalinar said that the boy he killed seemed seventeen, only a bit younger than himself. My guess is that Dalinar is closer to Kaladin's age, around nineteen, than he is to Adolin's, around 23. I could definitely see some similarities between Adolin's and young Dalinar. For example, they both seem to prefer a challenging duel over just slaughtering people on the battlefield. I think that Sadeas said they were similar because they act in a similar way. The differences are in their motivations and emotions behind those actions.
  11. Everyone is focusing on the stubborn aspect of the description, but Stonewards are dependable and have resolve and dependability as well. Would someone who considers it important to be dependable really have dated every girl in the warcamps?
  12. Most people here seem to think that if Adolin becomes a Shardbearer, killing Sadeas is what will break him. I had another idea that no one has mentioned yet. What if Adolin finds out that Dalinar went to the Nightwatcher and could no longer remember Adolin's mother? Adolin idolizes Dalinar, but he obviously cares about remembering his mother as well. If Adolin realized that Dalinar couldn't remember her because of Dalinar's own actions, especially if it was a boon from asking something like I don't want to feel the pain of my wife's death, it could easily shatter Adolin's view of the world. After this revelation he could turn to the one thing that hasn't changed - his Shardblade. This storyline would also be a cool way to watch him mature and become more of his own person. This theory is probably mostly wishful thinking on my part.
  13. Not sure if this was confirmed anywhere, but my impression was that each book would focus on a different order, and the main character of that book would be a member of/the founder of that order. The following are characters he's mentioned as being main characters and their orders. Kaladin - Windrunner Shallan - Lightweaver Szeth - Skybreaker Dalinar - Bondsmith Jasnah - Elsecaller Renarin - Truthwatcher Lift - Edgedancer Taln - the Herald the Stonewards followed That leaves Eshonai as a main character without an order and the orders Dustbringers and Willshapers. Of the two orders, I believe Eshonai fits the Dustbringers better. My impression while reading was that the Dustbringers weren't angry the way some people describe them; rather, they were just misunderstood. They had destructive powers and a willingness to do what was necessary, which gave them a bad reputation. I believe Eshonai fits this perfectly, like when she tries stir form first even though it might be dangerous because it could save her people. This might just be a coincidence, but Dustbringers were also called Releasers, and Eshonai is partly responsible for releasing the Everstorm. That just leaves the Willshapers without a character. Of all the characters, I believe Rysn fits their description best. They loved adventure and oddities. She did a dangerous stunt and broke both her legs to complete a sale for a rare item. Besides, the item they were trading for was a dead creature that kings trade fortunes for. At the end of the chapter she got a live one which hasn't been seen in years and the people of the island have no control over. Those creatures sound an awful lot like spren to me…
