Cycle Three: The Astronomy Tower

Azalea’s owl had a knack for being late. She sorted through expired coupons and letters she wished had been delivered yesterday. As she unfurled the last crumpled note, she froze.
“Blimey!” She ran out the door as the note fluttered to the ground.
Help. Second floor girl’s toilets. -Amara

· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·

“I’ll point the telescope at the Ophiuchus constellation tonight.”
Lamar watched the sunset from the balcony of the Astronomy Tower. Next to him floated Amara, her ghostly form unaffected by the wind.
You know I won’t remember any of this by tomorrow.”
“I know. But I can tell you like learning again.”
I like spending time with you. Marina was-

“Hanging out with the dead, Lamar?” A lanky man crested the stairs behind them. “Quiet as a grave up here. And that view is to die for.”

I know that voice.”
“You look pale as a ghost, Amara. How long’s it been, seven years? Eight?”
You should jump, Lamar.
The first-year stepped in front of his sister. “Who are you?”

“Your sister knows. But I guess her memory’s not the best.”
He took my life.” She racked her brain, trying to think of his name. “He was a student. Powerful.
Lamar fumbled with his wand. “I’ll kill you!”
In a flash, it was knocked from his hand, falling a hundred feet down the side of the tower.

You can’t win.
“Let me try!”
If you fight, you will die.” She shushed him. “Listen! If you’re murdered here, your spirit will haunt these grounds forever.
“Then I’ll live here with you!”
This isn’t living. You deserve better. You deserve to be part of the next great adventure.

“Merlin’s beard, bird brains take the fun out of everything. C’mon now, I’m dying to curse someone.”
Amara held out her hand. “You’ve been so brave.
Tears soaked his cheeks. “I love you. Mum does too.”
I know. I know.

“Ugh, get a room. Avada-
Lamar and Amara jumped together.

· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·

The greenhouse air was thick with humidity.

“Who can tell me the name of this plant?” Professor Sprout held a vine aloft. “How about you, Leonidas.”
“I’m not sure, Professor.”
She underhand tossed it to him. “Names matter, class! Mine manifested into becoming your Head of Herbology.”

She looked at the attendance list. “Jarry reminds me of a student we’ll have next year. I expect him to be a prodigy plant potter.”
“Professor!”
“A strong name can be a dangerous thing. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named-”
“Professor! Big Leo is choking!”

The vine had wrapped itself around Leonidas’ throat, and was beginning to make his eyes bulge.
“See? If you’d known this was Devil’s Snare, you wouldn’t have held it like that.” Sprout waved her wand to unravel the plant. “Was their skin always that blue? Hang tight while I fetch Madam Pomfrey.”

· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·

Garick leaned over the railing, admiring his handiwork. He barely noticed the figure landing next to him, broomstick in one hand, Sorting Hat in the other.
“Hats off to you, Garick. That was novel.”
The older boy grinned, showing his silver tooth. “All inspired by you.”
“About that. There’s an art to storytelling. Do you know how hard it was to lure Azalea into the Chamber of Secrets? That’s a symbolic death. This is crude.”
“Can I try your broom?”
“I need a newer model.” He swung through Garick’s chest, knocking him over the side. “But this one’s still good for cleaning up messes.”

· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·

Ranch dressing dribbled from the side of Dumbeldore’s mouth. “Too many deaths may trigger an investigation, Pomona.”
“She said he’ll pull through.”
“She said he’ll probably pull through.” The headmaster shook the crumbs out of his voluminous beard. “I want him sent home. If he dies off school grounds, we won’t be blamed for it.”
“I’ll inform Poppy.”
Dumbledore took another bite of his sandwich. “And tell Hooch I want a Quidditch match soon. I don’t care who’s on the teams, we just need a distraction from all this nonsense.”

· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·

Azalea!” Amara burst into the pitch-black washroom.
The lights flickered once, revealing a tunnel where a sink once was. Then again: pitch darkness.
No, no, no, noooo…
The lights came on once more, and this time, she saw a Azalea’s frozen form, locked in a cowering pose.
As she knelt down to inspect, Amara felt a looming presence behind her.
I love you, Lamar.
She turned and faced her fate.

· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·

@Amanuensis's characters Lamar and Azalea have died! They were killed by @Emperor Comatose's character Garick! This is not a commentary on their alignments. Those players have been replaced by pinch hitters/transfer students, with @DrakeMarshall subbing in for Aman and @Aeternum subbing in for Emperor.

@Doc12's character Azalea was killed by the elims! They were a Loyal Student.

@Qianweilian's character Big Leo was expelled! They were a Loyal Student.

· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·

Cycle Three has begun! It will end on Wednesday April 1st at 20:00 EST.

Little RP:

Leokadius was not doing well, he had found friends in his house sure, but Hogwarts was supposed to be safe. There had been 3 murders in the first few days of the school year as well as two expulsions.

He wasnt sure anymore if it his parents were right sending him here.

I didn't expect to be in this game, so I likely won't be super active or do any roleplaying since it is a Harry Potter themed game. I haven't read anything so if anyone would like to summarize anything important that's happened, that would be helpful. Anyways hello :)

Well 4 villagers are dead,

There were a lot of people joking about secret roles, which was initiated by a bluff/reaction test from Aman

Some of us post who we will put our votes on and keep a public VC.

Yes I know double posting is to be avoided but I had only now time to do the Analysis and felt like it warranted its own post:

So the leading Trains in both directions probably contain elims. Especially since another Prefect who got Extra Credit was murdered today:

Active in 3 of 5 trains were:

Grass (Doc, TJ, Coco)

Twin (Doc, TJ, Qian)

Aman/Drake (TJ, Mint, Qian)

Wahr (TJ, Coco, Qian)

Active in 2 of 5 trains were:

Miss (Doc, Coco)

Emepror/Aeternum (Doc, Coco)

TJ (Coco, Mint)

Active in 1 of 5 trains were:

Coco (Doc)

TUM (Mint)

Mint (Qian)

These do not include votes from dead Players. Since they were revealed to be Village.

Now lets Crossrefrence it with the Data from Last Cycle.

Grass and TJ were both active in 3 leading trains yesterday

Aman, Ink, Coco, Mippo and Mint were active in 2 leading trains yesterday.

People that were active in leading trains on both Days:

Grass (3, 3) TJ (3, 2) Aman/Drake (2, 3) Coco (2, 1) Mint (2, 1)

Now from those five I am most Suspicious of:

Grass he was active in many leading trains across both Cycles and there is the wierd situation with the Hufflepuff Prefect.

I am also not a big fan how active Aman/Drake and TJ were in those trains.

Also Hopper continues to not Vote at all.

Current VC

  • (1-3) TJ: Wahr (1-3)
  • (1-3) Grass: Wahr (1-3)
  • (1-3) Hopper: Wahr (1-3)

I will hold of on Voting the PHs this Cycle since I dont want to judge them solely on the actions of their predecessors.

Raese sighed, staring at the chalkboard. It was covered in scrawlings, lists, drawings, and looked as if it belonged in the insane asylum. He rubbed his head, staring at the figures as if they ought to give something away. Nothing. The answer was here, he knew it, he just hadn't looked hard enough.

He sat down in the seat, rubbing his head. Twelve names on the list stood out to him. Those who had arrived late on the first day, and two others, newcomers. Anyone of them could be lying.

So. Ive been discussing this in the Hufflepuff PMs. I lied about Mist being prefect, to test if TJ was elim. He’s clear, he was the only one who knew I was prefect last cycle and didn’t have the elims kill me even though I “forgot” to protego myself. And I know exactly who is receiving Protego this cycle, but none of yall are going to find out.

Negative leading trains should probably be analysed differently to positive leading trains because we don't know the alignment of the players on other trains. I'll delve into this later, because I have important information.

Owl Mail from Qian ->

Qian suspects Aman/Drake, Mint and Wahr. Asks me to tell @Through the living Wahr that Big Leo's cape was always cooler. Ink and Coco and also a bit suspicious.

Owl Mail from Doc ->

Doc says he was a prefect, and that he used Protego on himself. It must have been 2 elims - one to obliviate and one to kill him. He continues to say that elims cannot learn obliviate without being prefect, so there must have been an elected elim prefect. He informs that Coco is the other house prefect. If Hufflepuff prefect is dead, there are only 3 prefects left. He asks that we put them on trial.

@coco.pudding, Azalea asks me to tell Vera that she loves her.

@TwinStorm & @Through the living Wahr, Azalea tells Raese and Leo to be cunning.

And for all of us to avenge him.

***

I agree with Doc's train of thought. Doc has no reason to lie here, and if Doc used Protego, the only way for him to die would be for someone to use Obliviate on him. He's also right that the only way for anyone to use Obliviate so far would have to be a Prefect. Only non-Obliviate spells can be used as faction elim spell, which means one of the Prefect have to be elim.

We already have 1 prefect in Coco. @coco.pudding, did you use a Spell last Cycle?

Hufflepuff Prefect is Verdant. They asked me not to reveal that they were the prefect last cycle to run a test, and I was leaning village on them, so I backed them. I also thought that it would detract elims from kill Ver if they were prefect-hunting. They claim not to have used a Spell last cycle.

I am Ravenclaw Prefect. I used Protego on Aman last night. I had informed of this action in Ravenclaw PM before getting Owl Mail from Doc, my housemates can confirm.

@DrakeMarshall, @Through the Living Ink, @Frozen Mint who is Gryffindor Prefect?

Currently leaning Coco > Verdant

ed1t: There might be a question of a village Prefect using Obliviate on Doc and elims just getting lucky, but the only possible village Prefect who had info that Doc was also a Prefect was Coco.  But why would v!Coco Obliviate Doc when she gave +3 to him? Which is why I'm leaning that the Obliviate on Doc was deliberately by an elim.

Coincidentally, this is what an elim would do to salvage a lot of elim reads on them when they know they won't be killed

Still read you more Village though despite that :P

I sort of forgot we hadn't revealed our Prefect; I kind of assumed Aman had at some point. Oops.

I'm the Gryffindor Prefect, though I won't reveal my spell unless necessary (does that make me more likely to be targeted? does that make me sound like an Elim? possibly, I don't know). I will say I did not Obliviate Doc.

Also, in terms of Coco's voting, an e!Coco might Obliviate then kill Doc having upvoted him to ensure he had Extra Credit. This isn't an accusation of Coco; just notes for TJ's edit.

My most solid read right now is e!coco, they were  confirmed as prefect and could have obliviated Doc, voted for doc to ensure extra credit went down with them, and also idk just vibes and social interaction give me that impression.

I used obliviate on Grass (sorry grass) because I thought if he was prefect there was a good chance he was actually elim

@Archer would he be notified of that or does it just not work when he tries?
@Through The Living Grass if you were notified would you mind confirming for me?

No one is informed of anything related to spells. Happy to confirm in GM PMs that orders were received, but I won't say anything further.

Based on PMs, getting strong v!grass, I like his tests

Also from PMs still thing TJ is v!

Previous Ink / Mint convos make me think e/e, but stronger of the two is e!Ink

Also Coco seems e! just from recent posts; doesn't seem to be inputting enough.

Just took a look at all the spell stuff that was going on

Leaning very much e!Ink

Okay so why Qian? I feel like I didn’t see much actual sentiment against him. @Through the living Wahr @Frozen Mint @TwinStorm curious to hear your thoughts?

I didn't like the votes coalesce'ing around Fallen. Doc's question, I think, was valid wrt why Fallen got positive votes. But for Fallen to have gotten so much suspicion when IMO the elims didn't have much incentive to vote positively for e!Fallen seemed strange to me and at the time it felt like Qian was piggybacking on Doc's and Aman's stated supicions.

Well, I didn’t use my spell, so that was either useless or malevolent.

This cycle so far I’ve been extremely busy. I’ve had maybe an hour total of actual time to contribute. Split up into 5-10 minute intervals. So sorry if I’m not contributing, it’s physically impossible to follow everything and type up long analysis posts atm. I will be more active later today once I’m off work.

See but if you’re an elim now the elims don’t have a spell. So I wouldn’t call that useless.

Anyway current thoughts are still leaning toward elim on Grass, Ink is an interesting one, I haven’t seen enough to really get a solid read since they haven’t been participating a whole lot. Interesting that they didn’t claim prefect before, but I’m not sure how alignment indicative that is.

Fine, I'm willing to accept that.

I may have just missed this beforehand, but why do you think grass is elim?

So I dont really like whats going on with Coco/Grass here.

There are a few possibilities here:

e/v: either e!coco wanted to remove a village spell disguising it as trying to remove an elim spell or v!coco actually removed an elim spell

v/v: v!coco tried to remove an elim spell but removed an village spell

e/e: its a very elaborate scheme between e!coco and e!grass to hide an elim spell.

I would say the e/v option is probably the most likely will slightly change up my vote, removing TJ from it and voting instead on Coco

  • (3-6) Coco: TJ (2-3), Wahr (1-3)
  • (2-4) Grass: Wahr (1-3), TJ (1)
  • (2-3) Ink: TJ (2-3)

"The mask you hold in your hands, it has just enough power. Give it to me, and I will use it to send you home."

"Oh," Squircle sighed, relieved. "Yeah, sure, that sounds like a fair deal. It didn't even do what it was meant to. I'm not sure why I held onto the useless thing for so long. You can have it.” He offered up the Drake Mask to the Great Fairy. She floated down to take it in her hands.

"A bargain is struck. With this, I will return you h- ha..."
The Great Fairy finished donning the Drake Mask.
"HAHAHAHAHAHA!" she suddenly roared, throwing her head back in laughter. "I can't believe it actually worked! Haha... I'm a Great Fairy now!! The universe is my oyster!"

The masked face suddenly zeroed in on Squircle, as if noticing him for the first time.
"Oh, it's you. Thanks, friend! You did me a solid here."
Squircle opened his mouth to speak, but the Fairy cut him off.
"As promised, off you pop!" she snapped her fingers and a portal opened up beneath Squircle, and he fell through. "I'm kinda new at this, but I'm pretty sure that leads to your home world! Probably!!"
The portal closed, and the Fairy was breathing heavily. That kind of magic didn't come cheap, and she really was in a weakened state. Sadly, she doubted the stray fairies were compatible anymore, so she’d have to live with it.

Maybe she could still manage another jump today, though... Things seemed like they were calming down in Terminus. And she'd always been somewhat curious about what other worlds were like…

She dug deep, and tore open another portal. Without anything specific to guide it, it was hard to say where it would take her.
“So long and thanks for all the rupees.”
She flew straight through, and the portal winked out of existence behind her.

✨

Suddenly, a portal opened, and a strange masked fairy plummeted through and landed in an unceremonious heap.

She groaned.

This world felt… different. The good news is that there was still plenty of magic. The bad news is that it felt… slippery. She instinctively reached for magic, but it felt sluggish to answer. Probably why her flying was going haywire. She groaned again, longer and even more put-upon.

Finally, she got up and took stock of the situation.
On one side, there was a forest. On the other, a vast and ostentatious castle loomed. A tower reached for the heavens, and she was right at the foot of it.
She was alone. Well, not quite.
There a human, but he was very dead.

“Murdered,” she decided.
“Well. This is going to be quite hard to explain if anyone walks in on me.”
The Drake Fairy examined the body critically.
“Well, in for a penny, in for a pound.”
She started rifling through the body’s possessions. Maybe there was something useful…

“Aha!” She brandished a wand triumphantly in the air, and the wind stirred as she moved it. Magic finally answered like it should. This felt right. She intuited that this was how you were supposed to access magic in this world. She exulted in this breakthrough for a moment, but she tempered it with the knowledge that there was still a lot more to figure out about this. It would be very convenient if there was some sort of magic school nearby where she could learn more.

That was more than enough dallying around a fresh murder scene, though. She had to fit in around here. With the pilfered wand in hand, a bit of glamour was probably doable. Glamour came naturally to fairies, after all.

✨

Some time later, a short, wingless, and mostly human-looking girl outfitted in a very convincing facsimile of Hogwarts student robes stepped out of the woods.
