Yomen could feel the world ending.

The ground shook as soldiers corralled skaa and nobles alike towards the secret cache. Yomen watched from atop an ash-covered building as the poor people trudged through ash-covered streets in ash-covered clothes. The heat was almost unbearable. His advisors kept trying to usher him into the cache, but he knew there would be space for him. He ruled Fadrex City, even if now in the name of Lord Venture. He wanted to make sure as many people got into the caverns as possible.

There was a commotion down below, and Yomen spun his head to find the source of it. A woman was attacking some of Yomen's soldiers. Before Yomen could even think to order his minders to help, the woman was cut down. She had clearly managed to injure one of the soldiers, and his fellows quickly ushered him away from the suddenly frantic crowd of people. Yomen would have to check on the man later, once everyone was securely in the caverns.

Not even during the end of the world could people behave.

"Oh, Lord Ruler," Yomen whispered as his he finally let his advisors usher him towards the cache. "Please keep us alive another day."

Welcome to LG107: The End of the World! I'm very excited to be back on the GM side of things after over 2 years of no GMing. I will be posting the rules in thread down below, but formatting always gets wonky going from Google Docs to the forum. I highly recommend looking at the rules here instead. The Impartial Moderator for this game will be @little wilson. If you need any help with player behavior or anything of that sort, feel free to reach out to her!

Signups will end at 4 pm CST on Saturday, July 19th. If you wish to play, just post in this thread and I will add you to the playerlist! If you would rather spectate, just let me know and I'll make sure to send you the spec doc when the game starts. If you want to sign up as a pinch hitter, you can also do that here in the thread. The game will start as soon as I can send out all the GM PMs and get the thread posted. Rollover will usually take about 30-45 minutes after each turn ends. 

Rules:

Basics

  • Each Cycle is split up into a Day and a Night turn. Days are 48 hours long and Nights are 24 hours long. Each turn will end at 4 pm CST. The next turn will be posted as soon as possible, but expect it to be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour after rollover.

  • PMs are open if the writeup at the start of each turn says they are open. When they are open, players may PM as many people in a single PM. All PMs must contain me, [co-GM], and [IM], if they desire to be included.

  • Each Day, there will be an execution. The player with the most votes will be executed. In the event of a tie, one random player of those tied for most votes will be executed.

  • The Spiked know who each other are and their roles. In addition, they have a doc to discuss in, as well as a night kill one of their members may submit as an action.

 

Factions

  • The Villagers: Your goal is to rid the town of the Spiked hiding among you. You win when all of the Spiked are dead.

  • The Spiked: You are servants of Ruin, who is guiding you on your quest to hamper the Villagers. Whether it is just because of Ruin's desire to see everything destroyed or if the destruction of this village plays some bigger part, you don't know. You win when you outnumber the Villagers and can thus take over the town.

 

Roles

  • Coinshot: Coinshots do what they do best: shooting coins at people. Each night, a Coinshot can kill a player, unless they are protected.

  • Lurcher: Lurchers can pull on metal, and each night may protect a player from death.

  • Tineye: Tineyes are great messengers, and each night may send a message to the GM to be posted anonymously in the thread the next day. As long as a Tineye is alive, PMs are open. Once there are no more Tineyes, PMs close.

  • Thug: Thugs can withstand a lot and just keep going. They have a passive extra life, and will survive the first execution or kill that hits them.

  • Rioter: Rioters are experts at messing with people’s emotions, and during the day can move one player’s vote to another player of their choice. Their own vote will be canceled in the process. They can move a no-vote to a vote, but they can not move a vote to a no-vote.

  • Soother: Soothers can suppress people’s emotions, and during the day can cancel one player’s vote. 

  • Smoker: Smokers have a coppercloud around them that they can choose to extend to one other player (or they may choose to turn it off) during the night. For the next cycle, anyone within the coppercloud can’t be Rioted, Soothed, or scanned by a Seeker. When a player is scanned while under a coppercloud, they show up as a regular Villager. 

  • Seeker: Seekers can sense the pulses that emanate from someone burning their metals. In fact, they’ve gotten so good at this, they can even sense if a player is using a power gained from a Spiked! Seekers can scan a player and learn their role and alignment.

  • Augur: Augurs can look into their past and see what could’ve been. They’ve gotten so good at seeing their past, they can even see who targeted them that turn. Once per cycle, Augurs can learn the identity of any players who targeted them. 

  • Oracle: Oracles can see their own future up to a few seconds ahead of them, and can react based on what they see. Each night, Oracles can avoid an action used on them for that turn. If multiple actions target them that turn, only one randomly chosen action will fail.

  • Mistborn: Mistborn have access to all of the powers, but can only use one each cycle. At the beginning of each day, the Mistborn will be told which ability they have, and that’s the only ability they will have for that cycle.

Greetings, I am a friend of Aeternum's, from Mafia Universe. They have explained to me the large differences in culture and format for games here, and those differences appeal to me, even though

Greetings, I am a friend of Aeternum's, from Mafia Universe.

They have explained to me the large differences in culture and format for games here, and those differences appeal to me, even though I am used to the MU ways. One of the oldest sites I played on would play entire games in RP and have unusual mechanics.

I have been invited to perhaps play a game with Aeternum here at some point, I would like to observe a bit, but I have 17 years of experience playing on well over a dozen very different forums, so if you need a substitute player (pinch hitter) I could fill the part on that as well. Would be a good way to dip my toes in.

If you will have me, you can put me down as a Pinch Hitter for this game and I will follow along as a spectator until I am needed for the game.

I'll think of a Rosharan-sounding name at some point, but I'm a Worldhopping 3rd Ideal Skybreaker. A Nale-type Skybreaker, because those are the only ones that survived the Recreance.

7AM rollover... I should probably get my sleep cycle in order.

Huh. You know, given the timeline placement of this game, I could conceivably play as my namesake. I've never roleplayed as the one-chapter character named Walin; I had just picked his name as my username because it was a one-off name from the books.

You know what, I'll try it. I'll try and roleplay as Walin for this game.

Day One

 

Yomen hoped he was a good leader. He hoped that he had made the right choice, moving as many of the people of Fadrex City into the caverns as he could. He hoped the Lord Ruler would forgive him for those he could not fit. He hoped their ends would be quick and painless.

Most of all, he hoped that at least someone would survive.

The quakes were getting stronger, more frequent. With so many people crammed in the caverns, his soldiers were having to work at all hours of the day to keep people from panicking. Already there had been three more brawls after that first woman’s attack, and, by Yomen’s best reckoning, it had only been eight hours.

“Sir,” a soldier said, running up to him, “can I speak with you?” 

“What is it, soldier?” Yomen asked, waving aside his personal retinue. They were reluctant to leave him, but Yomen could handle a single soldier. His retinue would be better off helping the citizens. What was this soldier’s name though? Noor? Nol? Ah yes, Norol.

“I need to show you something,” Norol said, leading Yomen further away. 

What could possibly be-

Yomen had little time to react as the soldier spun on him, metal glinting in his hands. Yomen dodged, immediately burning atium as he grabbed his knife. The man’s shadow moved to strike at Yomen’s heart, and even with atium he barely had time to dodge. Yomen saw the man’s counterstrike and preempted it, plunging his own knife into the man’s head.

It was over in just a moment, and Yomen quickly stopped burning atium. They had so little left, he could not afford to waste any of it. His retinue arrived, shooing off civilians who had heard the commotion and come around the corner to see what was happening. Yomen watched as his soldiers inspected the man’s body.

His worst fears came true. The man was spiked. Their enemy had infiltrated the caverns.

They weren’t safe even here.

“Lord Ruler help us all,” Yomen said.

There will be a removal during this Cycle. Tied votes will result in a random player within the tie being removed. In addition, PMs are open for this Cycle. Hi friends! I'm Doc, I played a bunch of games eight, nine years ago? I have no idea what current strategies are or how games are played now, but I'm ready to get the ball started! 

I'm playing Mara, a ska who is currently grieving because her friend got cut down by a bastard soldier just because she got too close to the noble running this place :(. Say hi?

Welcome back! I'm sure we played some games together back then. I haven't really gotten to play for most of the last year, so I'm also not completely up to speed on the current trends. I would like to get to know the newer folks, so feel free too shoot me a PM. I may get around to sending a few of my own, but I'll have more time for that during the week than over the weekend.

Aralis says hi back, and whacked said soldier with his staff. Didn't seem prudent to go much further given the current circumstances. This whole crisis is probably a noble scam to get out from under Elend's rule and oppress the skaa again.

I'm going to start off by voting on Twinstorm for not having a character name.
