Mid-Range 69: A Reckoning for the Rest

In the aftermath of the meeting with Mindstorm, the various factions of Epics had begun making shows of force, demonstrating bursts of power in hopes of cowering their opponents. These clashes were intermingled with equally hostile, though slightly less showy, private meetings and exchanges of packages. Who would be offered up for bait first?

In the end, Helios was chosen, and the Epic scribbled something on a page before sealing it in an envelope. Mindstorm ran a hand over the envelope, then nodded. One of his lesser known powers was the ability to detect deception from any written document, but apparently the statement within truly contained information about Helios' weakness. Helios sneered as he left, clearly confident in his ability to withstand any attack the Reckoners might make on him. 

In the coming weeks, however, no attack was made. It seemed the Reckoners had more caution than had been credited them. So Mindstorm called for another Epic to be chosen, and stated that he would continue to do so until the trap had been sprung. 

Cycle 2 has begun (nobody died)! It will end at 5PM Pacific Time on Monday the 17th.

Sure, he could barely stand some of his gang these days, but you screwed around and found out, what with the other Epic gangs, the Reckoners, and Mindstorm. You had to be pretty tough and capable of taking a hit, but the way the Arsonist saw it, it was the sort of thing some of those scum would want, as though they thought you were a tyro—get everyone else to waste their fuel flaming the lone wolves, then take them out in the process and get crowned king of the ashes.

Yeah, you didn't need to provoke anyone. Burning the solos looked good because you didn't antagonise anyone. But everyone knew everyone was out to get each other.

Hell, sometimes, even your own gang was about as much help as a piece of tissue paper in an inferno.

The Dwarf's voice echoed in the hush that had fallen.

The Arsonist couldn't decide whether it was because he'd hit a good target, or people were too terrified to contest the hit. Of course, who you were willing to see hit was itself telling, so there was that. 

"Helios, was it?" the Arsonist smirked. "Well, the sun's a great big ball of fire, and the way I see it, there's only one god of fire in town." [OOC: RoyalBeeMage]

He lobbed the fire at the wall, and smiled as the flames spread, carpeting the surface of the concrete.

i'm Not invested in this game enough to Really go look At what Optimal plays or Whatever theoretical things you could've Done. however, I'm curious if it's possible to mark an IE twice and for them to die. more likely, Given what you've said about rBm being in a faction, Perhaps you're working with Another faction and think you combined Had marked all 3 of them, only to discover you Haven't.

so i'M guessing you think you Had rbM's faction figured out and thought you had marked All of them, only to discover you're not...? or you thought RbM was a iE and idk if the double Mark idea I have would work.

The problem isn't re-lly M-rking an entire f-ction. There's up to six M-rks -v-il-ble every turn. Th-t's enough to elimin-te two te-ms. The roblem lies in de-ling with their protect.

There's no codes (that's against an SE rule) although Idk why that'd be the case considering private communication exists

It depends on the code. The rule is not absolute and the last edit allowed targeting codes.

Independent Epics, this is an announcement from my faction. It took forever to talk them around to this, but our current point of view is that you don't interface with our wincon, and we could theoretically work together. (In practice, we do conflict if we are near the last faction standing since those two wincons are incompatible, but we're far from that world for now.) Basically we would like to not be shooting at you or voting you and to let you do your own thing (if you want us to share targeting info, that can be discussed.)
