  1. The deadrunners didn't need to do too much to finish off the ship. Barron had apparently drunk himself to death, and had fallen off the ship at some point. Rob Hertz, having grown mad from paranoia, struck out at the man who was not named Aman. The man was drenched in despair, and didn't fight the blows. He gave a salute, as he croaked, "For ever, that is all." His hands bloodied from the beatings, Rob looked up to see Brandon playing a tune, unconcerned with the violence unfolding. Bee quickly grabbed the madman, and put him out of his misery. As for JNV, no one knew where he ended up. He had been carried off by the four winds, and although Aeternum kept a lookout, there was no sign of him. The deadrunners had taken the ship. It was time for plundering.

Hairy Barron has died from inactivity. He was a member of the Loyal Crew
Amanuensis has died. He was a member of the Loyal Crew

The Deadrunners outnumber the members of the Loyal Crew. The Deadrunners have won the game!

  2. The ship was in chaos. At night, the men hurried to their conversations, plotting, scheming, trying to find some order in the paranoia. They failed. Two deaths rocked the ship that night. Both were loyal crew men. Revir and Kelwin has both died in the night, but on separate ends of the ship. The survivors were growing paranoid, having failed to find any deadrunners. As the sun broke on the third day, it brought no relief. It was hot, and the ship was stuck, no fluidization to get them moving again.

  3. The grumblings of the crew were a quiet thing. They had seen several dead bodies, and they felt almost shell shocked. There was some grumbling about B-mage, but it felt uncommitted, halfhearted at best. Kelwin sighed, and with a curse on his lips, accused Morrigan of treachery. The ship wasn't sure what to do.

Suddenly, a flash of light burst into the scene. It was Bald Brandon, trying to grab some Sunlight Spores for the night. The flash enraged Morrigan's bird, who went mad with anger. Chicken started clawing at Morrigan's face, shredding it to bits. The sailors, taking this as a sign, followed the bird's lead, and consigned Morrigan to her fate. Sadly, the bird regained its senses, but too late. Its owner was already dead.

Faerie Braids was killed. She was a member of the Loyal Crew.

Hmm, on reconsideration, I'm going to unvote JNV. I'm choosing to trust Kas on this one.

I'm going to give Royal the benefit of the new player doubt. Sucks to loe to a coinflip your second game.

  6. Grant stumbled out of his cabin, bleeding. How had this happened? What maniac had killed him? His eyes darted among the shadows, seeing killers in every nook and cranny. What was happening? Why him? Why now? He sprawled out onto the floor, his eyes rolling back. The Spores he thought The Spores are going to get wet. As he bled out, his blood dripped downward, near the spores store. However, not a single one sprouted, as the blood missed by the smallest of margins. It was a miracle, but Grant could not appreciate it. He had already passed on.

Gorlog's saggy ba- bags. I'm getting old and sloppy.

@Sart - Can people still pull a Lotus in this game?

(i.e. Does collecting of a spore happen at the same time as the exe? I'm specifically asking because say the top exe suspect guns for Crimson/Roseite (yes I know, just humour me) - and is killed in the explosion. Does the next top exe suspect then get exed?)

You're probably supposed to wait for Sart to do that for you as you could get roleblocked/redirected, meaning no PM then.

Actually Sart second question - for Verdant oversubscription, is the following cycle an entire cycle or just a single Turn?

No. Taking spores comes last in the order of operations

Verdant over-subscription is for the entire cycle.

  8. Aeoryi swore at the other sailors. "Ye fools! I be a loyal crewmen aboard this ship. Your foolishness will be the end of us all. I pray to ol' Ironeyes for revenge, and pray I see ye after I enter his realm." Not wanting the crew to do any sort of violence upon them, Aeoryi leaped from the ship, landing in the Spores below. As they expanded from the water in her body, the ship rocked, and then steadied. There were no cheers, and as day became night, many plans began to hatch.

Aeoryi has died. She was a member of the Loyal Crew.

Yes. Every spore has an associated negative for oversubscription. For sunlight, it's that our votes become random — @Sart is the following day D1 or D2 supposing it happens today? Also all PMs are closed.

Considering if there's value in everyone consenting to a Verdant oversubscription tbh. Knowledge that everyone is RBed for the next cycle means we can force the Elims to lose a tempo or at least exclude most players from having made the kill.

Edited to add: Probably not worth it at 4 Verdant but something to KIV for future cycles IMO.

If Sunlight Spores are oversubscribed during the day, it affects the votes of that day. If they are oversubscribed during the night, it affects the votes the following day.

    12 hours ago, RoyalBeeMage said:

that is a good point about the verdant oversubscription. not sure if i would want it right at the start. i think we should let the elims get a tempo first. @Sart how many spores can one take per day?

You can take spores during the night and the day. You can take one spore during each day, and one spore during each night.

  10. The Deadrunners were swift in the night. If they controlled the spore supplies, then they controlled the shift. However, the noble sprouter, Sarkan, tried to fend them off. A fight broke out, scattering spores left and right. Not daring to get them wet, the mutineers choked poor Sarkan, shedding not a drop of blood. However, the fight had made too much noise, and they had to flee. The rest of the crew woke up to pandemonium. One of their own was dead, a wealth of spores was there for the taking, and no one was there to regulate it. It would be an all out free for all, as they quickly squabbled over the scraps.

Sarkan has died! He was a Sprouter who was part of the Loyal Crew.

And that's finally 12 players. I'll be getting the thread up in 30 minutes.

  12. Quote

Nonsense. Balderdash. Figgldygrak. Isn't it odd that gibberish words are often the sounds of other words, cut up and dismembered, then stitched into something like them—yet wholly unlike them at the same time?

I wonder if you could do that to a man.

After mentioning the name Adonalsium to Dalinar Kholin, the King's Wit, aka Hoid, quickly plays it off, claiming he's speaking gibberish. He drops this quote. Interestingly, while he does use two 'real' nonsense words of Nonsense and Balderdash, the term Figgldygrak was apparently a wholly Brandon invention. It was an amusing word, nothing more. Then, a user by the name of Natans had an interesting idea. Balderdash could be anagramed into the word Shardblade. Perhaps, the same could be done to Figgldygrak, in turn revealing some deep truth about the Cosmere. You can find the thread here:

Surprisingly, Peter Ahlstrom himself weighed in, calling the people in that thread "Very special people"

Clearly, we were reading way too much into this. The theory was basically abandoned, and we moved on.

However, the word reappeared in Rhythm of War, this time in Navani's inner dialogue.

    Quote

Well, let them waste their time trying to figure out a reason to the figgldygrak she wrote.

Specifically, it was used in the context of writing ciphers that meant absolutely nothing. It was literally meant to be a waste of time. I was surprised to see it reappear, but laughed it off as Brandon lightly poking fun at his fans reading too much into his words.

    Then the secret projects happened.

In Tress of the Emerald Sea, Hoid once again uses the word in his narration.

    Quote

Beyond that, there are those among us who have the uncanny ability to read another’s emotions. Not through magic, or mystical Connection, or any such figgldygrak. No, they are simply students of human nature.

It was another callback to the same forgotten joke. It's clearly used as a synonym for mystical nonsense in all of its appearances, but it kept cropping up. Why keep the joke going?

The word then reappears a fourth time in Yumi and the Nightmare Painter.

    Quote

    Tojin frowned. “What about . . . drama-horoscope-figgldygrak— whatsit?”
“Old news,” Izzy said. “I’m going to be a viewer critic instead. It’s going to make me famous.”

At this point, I'm starting to get paranoid. While it does not show up in SP4, this nonsensical word has appeared in four separate places, uttered by three different characters.

Some of you might guess that this is a word that Hoid has invented. However, this is tenuous at best. While he was the first to speak it, we have to consider that both Navani and Tojin used it in everyday speech. You could maybe stretch that perhaps Navani overheard Hoid make up the word, but that doesn't explain Tojin. Hoid is a statue for most of that book, and Design wasn't bonded to Hoid when he said that line. It's at least two degrees of separation.

Even more interestingly, Hoid claims he doesn't make up words. Again, from Yumi,

    Quote

"...Investiture—raw Investiture in particular—is kinda wahoopli.”
    “. . . Wahoopli?” Painter said.
“Word I just made up,” Design said. “It means weird. Hoid says I should be more literary. He makes up words all the time. So I’m trying it out.”
(I do not make up words. I have no idea where she was getting that part.)

Admittedly, this is spoken with the indignation of someone who probably makes up words, but the point still stands. Hoid denies that he makes up words. Where, then, does the word figgldygrak come from in the Cosmere?

Let's consider that three different characters of wildly different origins and planets have used this word. Therefore, I propose a theory. The word figgldygrak  is Yolish in origin. It's the only root language all of these human characters would share.

Is this wahoopli and figgldygrak? Probably. Is it fun to speculate about? Absolutely. Leave your own takes on this mysterious word down in the comments.

  13. Let me tell you a story. A story about those rogues who sail the spore seas. Yes, that's right. I'm talking about pirates.

Once upon a time, on a quiet night in the lower decks of the Crooked Moon, a villainous plan was hatched. A group of ruffians, seeking easy plunder and riches, decided to do what no honest sea crew would do. They decided to become deadrunners, and stage a mutiny against the captain. If they could take over the ship, by whittling down the loyal sailors, they could make a killing. Their first step was simple. It was time to raid the Spore supplies.

    Rules:

    Spoiler

You may view the rules in this google doc.

Scourges of the Saturated Seas: Tress of the Emerald Sea LG

    • Synopsis:

      • You are a band of privateers, sailing Lumar for treasure and gold. However, some among you believe a more lethal approach is necessary, and are plotting a mutiny. Will the crew rise to the occasion, or will the deadrunners sink their chances?

    • Factions:

      • Loyal Crew: You are a normal privateer, seeking adventure on the high seas. You win the game when all Deadrunners have been killed.

      • Deadrunner: You believe that this crew needs to resort to more violent means, and are prepared to mutiny to get your way. You win the game when the Deadrunners outnumber the Loyal Crew. You act as a standard eliminator faction, with access to a google doc, as well as a nightly kill.

    • Spore Supply

      • The spore supply is the main mechanic of this game. There is a publicly available list of spore charges for the taking. During the day or night, you may take one spore charge from the supply.

      • During the day, you may submit a request in your GM PM to take one charge from the supply. At the end of the day, it will be announced who took what charges.

      • During the night, you may also submit a request in your GM PM to take one charge from the supply. It will not be announced who took what.

      • During the night, you may spend a spore charge to do that spore’s associated action, via a request in your GM PM.

      • You cannot pick up then use a spore in the same night.

      • During the night, you may spend as many charges as you wish to do that many of the associated actions.

        • E.G. If you had 2 zephyr spore charges, and 1 roseite spore charge, you could redirect 2 people, and protect 1 person, all in the same night.

      • If you die, your spore charges are returned to the supply.

      • If more people try to take spores from the supply than are available, that type of spore becomes exposed to water, leading to an explosive reaction. All spores of that type in the supply are destroyed, and the people who tried to grab that type are penalized.

        • E.G. There are 2 charges of zephyr spores in the supply, but 3 people try to grab zephyr spores. Those 3 people would be penalized.

      • The explosive reaction is different depending on the type of spore.

    • The Spores

      • Zephyr: The wind buffets and redirects your foes

        • Action: Choose a target. Redirect one of their actions to a player of your choice. If they take multiple actions, a random one is affected.

        • Explosive Reaction: The wind knocks you off course. For this cycle and the next, any actions you take target a random player instead.

      • Sunlight: A little light is perfect for private conversations.

        • Action: Choose a target. You form a 1-on-1 PM with them for the rest of the game.

        • Explosive Reaction: You are blinded by the light. Your vote is cast randomly during the following day. Any PMs you had are closed.

      • Verdant: Choking vines

        • Action: Choose a target. One of their actions is canceled. If they take multiple actions, a random one is canceled.

        • Explosive Reaction: The vines constrain you. You cannot take any actions for the following cycle.

      • Roseite: Crystals form a sturdy wall

        • Action: Choose a target. Protect them from one attack.

        • Explosive Reaction: The crystals flatten someone. One person who tried to grab Roseite spores is killed.

      • Crimson: Deadly spikes

        • Action: Choose a target. They die, unless they are protected somehow.

        • Explosive Reaction: Crimson spores are the deadliest spores known to man. All players who tried to grab Crimson spores are killed.

      • Midnight: The Midnight Essence, at your beck and call.

        • Action: Choose a target. You learn one action they took, and who they targeted with that action.

        • Explosive Reaction: The Luhel bond starts draining you of water. Lose a random spore charge at the start of every cycle. If you cannot, you die.

    • Roles:

      • Sprouter: Start with one spore of every type. However, due to your cautious nature, you can only use one type of spore at a time.

      • Spore Eater: Start with four spore charges of one type. At the start of each cycle (not the first), lose one spore charge of that type. If you cannot, you die.

      • Poor Shot: Gain a random spore charge at the start of every cycle. However, all of the targets for your actions are random. You will be informed who you end up targeting.

    • Miscellaneous:

      • PMs are closed, except for Sunlight Spores

      • Day turns are 48 hours, and Nights are 24 hours

      • A tied vote leads to one of the tied players being eliminated.

      • Players may start with a Spore Charge

      • If someone fails to post in the thread for two cycles, they will be thrown overboard and eliminated.

I feel like going 2/3 on exes to start the game should never result in a loss C3. Definitely leaned too far on the balancing imo. We had some ridiculous reads from Stick and Drake that were wasted. I wish the vote hadn't landed on me because those two were great bait if it came down to Contact hunting.

But gg elims, full credit to ya.

Re: what I asked TJ: basically threw a lengthy recap of the rules and accidentally said some things in that weren't correct but he didn't catch them. On me for not asking clearer questions

Neil, why'd you give me Fae first? I was struggling to justify voting for them

Yeah. That definitely felt off. Switched my kill vote last second, but still. I played pretty terribly, and yet we somehow still won.
