  1. You could also check out the Sunshine State Young Readers Award. It's a program in Florida designed to encourage kids to read for pleasure, and I know I really enjoyed all the books I read when I did the program back in 5th grade.
  2. If someone wants the books they've read visible in his or her signature, nothing's stopping that person from putting them there themself. The fact of the matter is, it's just not practical to tiptoe around potential spoilers based on someone's signature, and it's sort of selfish to expect an entire thread's discussion to grind to a halt around someone who hasn't read one particular book. Especially since if someone is asking a question about the Cosmere, as in the example above, this would go into General Theories by default, where there is an explicit spoiler warning right there in the board description. Add that to the fact that it would take a lot of coding and occupy a lot of signature space, and it's just simpler and more efficient to use spoiler tags if you're that concerned about ruining things for other people.
  3. It might be an artifact of the way Word does things. I've noticed problems on MBI where people who write their character applications in Word - Word specifically, that is, not OpenOffice or some other word processor - there are sometimes random issues involving line spacing getting borked up. This seems to happen more often with newer versions of the program, which does really bizarre things with spacing.
  4. Wow, these are freaking amazing. Thanks for sharing! I know the MBI folks in particular will all find these really useful.
  5. It's 563 pages and chock full of really awesome world elements. The Treatise Metallurgic, Inkthinker's beautiful art, predatory mistwraiths, and pirates in the Southern Islands? Yes, please! Not to mention, the Kelsier and Gemmel short story in the beginning is worth the 15 bucks on its own. It's definitely an awesome value, whether or not you'll get a chance to actually play the game.

Very nice! You should come like this to the Stormlight 2 release.
  7. This is gorgeous!
  8. He channeled the Dor (It had to be done.)
  9. Looks pretty nice, judging by the nice video review you gave it over skype. I'm curious to see if they'll roll it out to existing Android phones (or at least a version of it), but I'm honestly not sure how that would even work, what with the major changes to the buttons and all. They'd have to change at least that part of it.
  10. I would like to announce that I really like being on break.
  11. opened the door (Sorry. I couldn't resist.)
  12. Good luck and safe travels! I hope you have an awesome mission, and I look forward to your return to the Cosmere!
  13. Hey now, that's our job just plain silly. Why would you want to worry about a silly thing like that? Nothing to see here, folks...
  14. I'm glad to see people have taken to giving these out, especially when real life keeps me away from the forums. Welcome! ^__^
  15. Hey there, and welcome to the site! It was great seeing you at the signing (I was the one running around in a Mistcoat), and thank you so much for letting me take a picture of Kaladin! <3 He's adorable. How's he enjoying the quilt? Also, yay, another WoWer! My husband got me into it, but I haven't been playing much this semester - I'm a Senior at FAU studying, guess what, Linguistics! Anyways, what do you play? My main is a Night Elf Druid.
  16. Hey there, and welcome! Weaving and tango, huh? That's an interesting combination! And they both sound like a lot of fun.

Alcatraz Wins Young Reader Award in Florida Those of you who don't live in Florida probably haven't heard of this, but the Sunshine State Young Readers Award is a great program to encourage elementary and middle school students to read. According to their website, I actually participated in this program myself when I was in 5th grade, and I absolutely loved it. And so it is with great excitement that I announce that Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians has made the 2011-2012 Sunshine State Young Reader's Award list! You can see the list for yourself right here. Congratulations, Brandon! As a side note to all you parents who might be reading this, whether or not you live in Florida, I highly recommend checking out the Sunshine Readers, as we call them, if you're looking for books to recommend to your children. Forum Highlights Zas678 has posted a great transcription of the Alloy of Law Q&A session, including a video of the event itself. Check it out! We also have threads about Endowment's gender, Endowment's intent, and a debate about the knowledge of chromium and nicrosil in The Alloy of Law. Check them out, and let us know what you have to say on the matter. Mistborn RP News The influx of new members – and new characters from current members – is continuing on Mistborn: The Inquisition. There's a lot of great activity and new friends to meet, so if you were thinking of joining, now is a great time! The Mistborn RP also now has its very own Twitter, as some of you have already seen. If you're interested in random RP quotes, tips on what not to name your character, and other insanity, check it out! You'll find Chaos, Comatose, and I tweeting all of those things and pretty much anything else RP-related we feel like doing. Koloss Head-Munching Day! And now for the biggest news of all: Koloss Head-Munching Day is approaching! For those of you who don't know, it's Brandon's birthday, December 19. When one fan asked him if there are any in-world holidays in Mistborn – are there, Brandon? The MBI folks would love to know! - he answered, jokingly, that they have Koloss Head-Munching Day. The fans ran with it, and now we have our very own international holiday. To celebrate, InkWing is having the abovementioned contest – and they're also looking for pictures! If you happen to have one of their Koloss Head-Munching Day T-shirts, take a picture of yourself wearing it and send it to <script data-cfhash='f9e31' type="text/javascript">/* */</script> . They'll post all the pictures on December 19 and even send them to Brandon! If you don't have a shirt but want to participate, you can always try ordering one, but I'd recommend asking if they can get it to you in time first. If you're feeling generous, you could always take a look at Brandon's Amazon wishlist. Just pick out what you want to get him and check out; Amazon will take care of the rest! That's the news for this week. Happy planet-hopping, and we'll see you 'round the Cosmere!
  18. Happy Birthday, Peter! And Happy Ookla the Moktival to all!
  19. That's currently being discussed in the staff boards. Thanks for the suggestion! ^^
  20. Particularly during the signing. Though the random pics of keeps and the Deepness were me. I try to sign my tweets when they're from @17thshard, though, unless I run out of characters.
  21. Thanks! The original thought was Heralds, but then Brandon suggested Worldsingers, so we went with that instead. ^^ And Joe, I'll sing campfire songs! Just for you. Or maybe we should ask Matt to do that; he was a camp counselor, after all.
  22. You could always try to stealthily get his opinion on audiobooks, but honestly, I think it might be safer to go ahead and grab the ebook copy now, just in case. I grabbed mine on Barnes and Noble tonight even though I have a few more things to read before I can pick it up. Also, do we even have a release date for the audiobook? Since your friend's birthday is next week, the ebook might be a better choice for that reason as well.
  23. It depends on the manufacturer, and whether there's enough interest in them to make the cost worthwhile, but those are definitely a possibility if enough people want them. Would pins/stickers/etc be something y'all would be interested in?
  24. Awesome! It's exciting to hear about Brandon spreading the word. I'm glad you made it here! ^^
