  1. You'll have to ask Brandon or Peter. I don't know if he's sending that one out to people to ask, but I suppose it can't hurt to try. It was a lot of fun, and I hope he'll consider cleaning it up and releasing it sometime. Anyways, thanks for the post, Mi'ch - and for everything else! <3 It was awesome getting to hang out with everyone, finally. Oh, and you need to PM me your address so I can mail your bag back. Thanks again for that. Oh, and I read the whole thing!
  2. Hey guys! So as you're all aware, 11/08/11 marked the release of Mistborn: The Alloy of Law, after a long wait filled with excitement and anticipation. And, as usual, Brandon celebrated the release of his latest book with a midnight release party at the BYU bookstore. I was fortunate enough to attend, and spent the weekend with several Sharders: I shared a tent with Chaos, Comatose, and Shivertongue, and ours was right next to Rubix and FirstRainbowRose's tent. We were also joined over the course of the weekend by Zas678, Link Von Kelsier Harvey, and mycoltbug. I'm also told that Tien and Finallity stopped by the tent, but I was inside thawing out at the time. Sorry I missed you, guys! The party itself was incredible. There were so many people there, both current and future Sharders, and a good number of awesome costumes! The staff members there outdid themselves to make it an awesome party, from letting me draw on them with eyeliner to standing in a corner of the bookstore running games to spending all night yelling at the tops of their lungs during Trivia. If you were there and had a good time, be sure and thank the staff for all their hard work! It couldn't have happened without everyone who pitched in. There's an award coming your way, guys, as soon as I can make it. Isaac and Kara Steward from Inkwing were also great - not only did they bring tons of T-shirts to give away, but they stayed throughout the signing, and it was that much more awesome because they were there. Thank you so much, you two! Also, did everyone see the quilt Kara made for baby Kaladin? It's an awesome blanket for an adorable baby with the best name ever. The signing went until 4 AM, but Brandon stayed until everyone's books were signed, going so far as to stand out in the cold and sign the staff's books and answer more question when the bookstore kicked us out. It was amazing getting to finally meet him - he is every bit as gracious and genuinely nice as everyone has said, and a truly fun person to talk to. I feel very honored that I was able to meet him the way I did, and that I had the privilege of helping out during the signing, even if it was just a small job. Thank you, Brandon, for being an awesome guy and for treating your fans so well! I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say it means a lot that you give us so much time and attention when you're already insanely busy. Now, to you, Sharders: those of you who were there, and those of you who got Sam Weller's signed books. I managed to catch a couple of the Q&As and clues written in books, but I wasn't able to record anything, and I can't remember it all. If you had a clue written in your book or had a question answered - even if it's a RAFO - post about it here so your fellow Sharders can benefit! Also, if you got any pictures, post them in our gallery so everyone can see. You can also read more about the line from Mi'ch's point of view in this thread. Perhaps I'll blog more about my own experience later as well, but I think this pseudo-signing report is all I can manage at the moment since I still have pics to process, so that brings us to the end of this particular post. See you 'round the Cosmere!

  4. Hey guys! If you were at the midnight release of Alloy of Law or got a signed copy from Sam Weller's, 17th Shard needs your help! If you asked Brandon a question - even if it was RAFOed - or got any sort of clue or interesting tidbit written in your book(s), post it here so the rest of us can hear about it! I was up front for a lot of the signing, but I didn't hear everything and I didn't get to write down anything. Post what you know here, and I'll update the list as I go. Thanks! Things I overheard: Kelsier was not spiked. Kandra can determine each other's gender via scent. Part of the Lord Ruler's motivation for setting up The Final Empire was revenge against the people he viewed as encroaching on his people's land. He was also obsessed with creating order, which Ruin later exploited. The Ars Arcanum in the books were all written by one person. The author of the Ars Arcanum is either Hoid or a member of the Seventeenth Shard. Brandon also pointed to an annotation on the map of Elendel that's relevant to this question. Things Zas overheard: Are the usual quadrants (Physical, Mental, Temporal, Enhancement) preserved in Feruchemy and Hemalurgy? Status:No. In Ferchemy, it is based Realmantically. There is a quadrant of Spiritual, a quadrant of Cognitive and two quadrants of Physical. How do Kandra decide gender? Is it just intellectual? Or are there subtle physical differences? Status- Kandra have a specific gender that is associated with scent- you can tell if a kandra is a boy or girl depending on how they smell. There is more to it than that. They also know who they are attracted to. Does the person being pierced in order to charge a Hemalurgic spike have to die? Status- Not necessarily. A spike does require you to rip pieces of a soul from the victim, but that does not mean they must die. They would be a very different person afterwords though. Why do Seons become broken when their person is taken by the Shaod? Status- A Seon has a Spiritual Connection with their user. When the Shaod takes the user, it messes up the spiritual nature of the user, and it really messes up the nature of the Seon. Other overheard info: There's just the one system in Warbreaker, and it's also a world with only one Shard on it. Signing quotes from books: NOTE: I asked him when, and he wouldn't say.
  5. Wait, Miis are on DSes now? That's pretty fun.
  6. I spread it to Kuri, as well, and I'm working on another of my friends. Also, welcome! Have a cookie:
  7. Hey, Brandoneous! Welcome to 17th Shard! Have a cookie:
  8. Hey there! Don't worry about not getting the details right; you can always check the Coppermind, or just ask if there's something you forgot. We'll be happy to help you. ^^ Also, have a cookie!
  9. Oh, don't worry. Being spiked is quite a compliment around here. Just asked our legions of spiked minions friendly neighborhood moderators. Anyways, that's really all MBI is: a collaborative fiction project. A lot of the more veteran members - including the staff - are aspiring writers, and we're always willing to help others improve. It's definitely more story and character-driven though, so if combat is more your thing, you might find yourself a little frustrated with our pace. If you like that sort of plottery, though, perhaps we're right for you! We're also working with Craftygames on hosting a Mistborn Adventure Game on MBI's forums. It would be play-by-post, of course, but with Crafty's system. Between that and Will's potential skype game, I'm confident you'll be able to find someone to play with!
  10. Hi there, and welcome! I'll sing Nyan Cat with you, but only if this dance is involved: Also, have a cookie!
  11. We stalk to find out who to spike, then spike, then stalk some more. I mean, hi, welcome! Have a cookie:
  12. Welcome! I'm glad ou decided to join up. Have a cookie!
  13. I'm here! Sorry for the delay; school and Alloy release prep kept me away from the forums, so now I'm going through getting caught up on intro posts. Here is your belated cookie! Also, I gave you a rep point for spelling y'all correctly. Welcome to 17th Shard!
  14. Welcome! For me, it was WoT. And the rest, as they say, is history. Also, have a cookie:
  15. Hey there, and welcome! It's too bad you didn't like Warbreaker, but we're all entitled to our own opinions. You should definitely check out Way of Kings, though. It's truly epic. Also, have a cookie:
  16. Hey there! Welcome, and have a cookie!
  17. Hey there, and welcome! Don't listen to these guys; we won't be running out of Brandon any time soon. At the Alloy of Law release party, he mentioned that the Cosmere cycle in its entirety is 36 books long. Not to mention his non-Cosmere stuff as well. It's not a matter of running out, it's a matter of rereading and theorizing until the next book comes out. Also, have a cookie:
  18. Chicken, huh? That sounds really good right now... Anyways, welcome! Have a cookie:
  19. Welcome! Wow, you worked on the space shuttle? Talk about an awesome job! Also, it's good to see more Floridians around here. For a long time, I think I was the only one. I really like the idea of a searchable database. Zas and I are both working on Q&A archives, but they're different from what you're trying to do. Personally, I'd really like to see something like that on the site. I'll have to get with Chaos about it - he's our webmaster - but I'm pretty sure he'd be onboard as well. Great idea! Also, here's your cookie, as promised:
  20. Hey now, I'm still catching up on the intro posts. ^^; Photoshop and Hemalurgy are is taking up a lot of my forum time at the moment. Don't worry, you'll get your cookie! ^^
  21. Don't even get me started on finding Brandon stuff at busy times. Anyways, welcome! Australia, huh? That's pretty awesome! Will you be able to make it to any of Brandon's signings down there? Also, have a cookie:

    Hi!

There is no post threshold, ever. If someone makes a post today, it will still be visible ten years from now. Also, Joe, I feel slighted! I've spiked a fair number of people myself, you know. Anyways, welcome, Serack! It's good to have you on 17S. I hope you enjoy it here! Also, have a cookie:
  23. He's storing age, obviously. Anyways, welcome! I'm glad you made it here, and I hope you continue to enjoy it. ^__^ Also, have a cookie!
  24. Hey there, and (somewhat belatedly) welcome! I can't wait to listen to your song. ^__^ Also, have a cookie!
  25. Welcome, Andor! Enjoy your time lurking. ^^
