  1. So did I, because I was busy writing an essay. This thread is still awesome, though. I think the ketek is my favorite part.
  2. Grouper and red snapper are also really popular where I'm from, but I haven't been able to try them yet. I have to be careful where I eat seafood because of food allergies.
  3. Texas is still pretty far from Utah. My husband is stationed in El Paso, which is on the opposite side of the state from Dallas, and he still needs to fly to get there. And yes, mini-road trip with Eric and Matt!
  4. There's something about the super-saturation that really makes it taste great - if you like sweet tea, that is. Also, you've just won yourself a chef award for that recipe. Holy yum! <3 Cheese, chocolate, and don't forget garlic! What types of fish do you like? Tuna sashimi is delicious, but I think my favorite fish is Mahi Mahi. It's light, flavorful, doesn't taste fishy, and I can get it ridiculously fresh where I live.
  5. I have the lamer cousin to this power. I can be in the same room as someone for minutes at a time, walking around, doing things, etc., and they have no idea I'm there until I say something or they turn around and see me. I've frightened the living daylights out of most people I've ever lived with with this power.
  6. Kuri linked this to me and I had to share it.
  7. Happy birthday! ^^

  8. It's hard to say, because I've never been a big fan of self-insertions to begin with, so I'm a bit biased. It's fun to imagine, though! Man, getting around campus would be so much easier...
  9. Syn! I'm glad you decided to come introduce yourself! As promised, here's your cookie: A bit about me, since you shared about yourself: I'm also 24, married, and a Linguistics student at Hurricane Paradise Florida Atlantic University. I teach martial arts when I'm at home, and I also love experimenting with Photoshop and web design. Oh, and I cosplay.
  10. This. Just waiting on the Army to approve my husband's leave request.

Well, I look forward to when you decide to become more active. Don't forget, you get a cookie when you make an intro post! ;)

XD So I'm the first, huh? The forum shows when members have a birthday, so I thought I'd stop by and wish you a good one. ^^

    Happy birthday! :D

  14. You're very welcome! I hope you enjoy it here.
  15. It also led to Brandon growing as a writer, and of course the publicity. I know I wouldn't have found his books - and as a result, some of my closest friends - if it hadn't been for WoT, so I'm extremely grateful that it happened this way.
  16. It is, indeed, quite delicious. And surprisingly easy to make!
  17. I said in the OP to make everyone else hungry, but instead, you're making me hungry! I've also been meaning to fry up some chicken again. I use my great-grandmother's recipe, which is simple as heck, but it tastes so good. I also learned how to brew sweet tea from two random old ladies I met in a restaurant in Georgia. XD It's pretty neat. You boil two pots of water, one smaller than the other. The big one is for brewing your tea, but you also add a pinch of baking soda to make it stronger. The smaller one is for your sugar. When it's boiling, supersaturate it with sugar. Add sugar, sugar, and more sugar, until it stops dissolving. Then combine it with your tea (once it's done brewing, of course), adding as much or as little of the sugar-water as you like. Chill, and enjoy! It's strong, but delicious. Also, has anyone else ever made a coca-cola cake?
  18. This reminds me of a text conversation I had with Mosh last night about whether the Dor can be channeled on Roshar, and if so, how. Keep in mind, we have seen disguised Elantrians on Roshar, but we haven't seen them do any magic, so they could have easily put on disguises before leaving. But did they? And by the same token, does everyone in the Cosmere have Breaths (in the same sense that people on Nalthis do, that is), or did Endowment's influence on Nalthis turn those specific pieces of people's souls into something that can be manipulated, making Nalthis-dwellers the only people in the Cosmere who have, in a sense, "tangible" Breaths? We need more information. Right now, I'm going to guess that Awakeners simply bring Breaths with them, and Elantrians worked their disguises before going to Roshar, because based on what we've seen of the differences between magic systems, that seems to make the most sense in my mind. That's just a guess, though, and can easily change once Brandon reveals more to us.
  19. Holy crap, Eeron, that sounds ridiculously delicious. I think I'm going to have to try that sometime! Has anyone here ever tried cooking with dark soy sauce? It's hecka stronger than normal soy, and it really gives a great zing to anything you would want to eat with soy sauce. It can be hard to find - typically it's only sold in Asian markets - but it's worth the quest.
  20. I've been listening to a lot of Girls Generation lately, thanks to Eric KPop attack!
  21. I got a few Jim Butcher books when my local Borders closed, but it definitely wasn't today. I did buy a copy of Henry IV part I for school yesterday, though. I am coming to adore the Folger Shakespeare Library editions! Also, could you please let me know how those books are? They sound great!
  22. I second recommendations of The Hobbit and the Pendragon series. If she's into history, she might like the Dear America books, but I don't know if they'd be too young for her or not. They're pretty short, but really engaging. I couldn't get enough of them when I was younger.
  23. I am hungry. And so while I wait for my meat to thaw out a little so I can start cooking, I thought, why not start a thread about food? Do you cook? Why, or why not? What do you like to eat? What do you not like to eat? Have an epic food-related story? Share it! I love to cook, but since I'm only cooking for one person right now, it makes it sort of difficult. I tend to cook large batches of things over the weekend and then eat all the leftovers during the week, because - let's face it - there's really not much else to do when you're only cooking for yourself. Small portions are hard, unless you're making a sandwich or something. On that note, I love making things that keep and warm up well, like lasagnas, casseroles, taco meat (with fresh-fried taco shells each time, mmmm), and hamburger helper. Gotta love that hamburger helper, especially when you add Mrs. Dash to it. Your turn! Let's make everyone who reads this thread hungry!
  24. Sweet! Grats on the score! I would like to announce that it is Friday! Hooray!
  25. Well, Kishimoto actually did something like that with Naruto, between what he had originally planned to be the end of the series and the beginning of Shippuuden. It was this great little flashback arc. And what did the anime do? They ran two years of fillers instead.
