YouTube. It doubles as my jukebox! Wikipedia or TVtropes?

This. Also, I read that, and I was really excited. No matter who wins out, though, I'll just be glad for different cover art than what we already have here in the US. I rank them as follows: 1. eBook versions 2. UK versions 3. US versions

Indeed. With a new name, it won't spoil the fun for people who are using Alloy of Law as a jumping-on point to the series. Meanwhile, the rest of us just get to grin at how awesome Harmony is.

Yeah, I think there's an RP somewhere around the internet that has a Violet Ajah. Of course, that could also become the domain of the Browns, though they might also keep it where it depends on who has the Talent, no matter their Ajah, sort of how the rebel Aes Sedai used anyone and everyone with the requisite strength in Earth to make cuendillar. As for the Tower becoming so isolated, I think that's exactly what Egwene is trying to address with her recent idea. I wonder if we'll ever find out how that pans out? I'm also curious to see what's going to happen to the Reds. Perhaps they'll become the liaisons between the Black and White Towers?

Wow, okay, so after reading these posts, I had to go and google the UK book covers, and dang, those are classy. No wonder you guys were curious! The American covers look pretty much like any other fantasy book cover. I have to say, though, I like the ebook covers best. I hope they'll release physical copies of the books with those covers.

... That... is really kind of disturbing, if you think about it. And just imagine what PETA's campaigns on Scadrial would be like: "I'd rather go naked than be spiked!" Doesn't quite have the same effect, I think.

I agree; I think 16 is the best guess on an actual number. It'll be interesting to see if/when/where these beads show up again.
-
Interesting. I don't think I've seen that one; would you happen to have a link to it handy?

This is also a possibility. Congrats to them if they did, because I think whoever picked that name (in-world, obviously ) hit it spot-on.

Lol! Well, we still have Shardholders being referred to by name - Bavadin, Ati, Leras, etc. - but yeah, maybe he also wanted something that fit a little better into the Cosmere's naming scheme. After all, when people refer to both the Shard itself and its holder as a unit, they typically use the Shard's name. That's kind of hard for Sazed to do, having two, unless he makes up something that encompasses both.

I like this explanation. This could have to do with his Oathstone, his lack of an honorspren, or both. Perhaps over the course of the story he'll "switch" power sources, so to speak, perhaps by breaking his oaths and then bonding with a spren. Brandon also said he wasn't sure if he could match up the books/orders perfectly. Maybe this is one reason.

Phasing. Hurricanes or tornadoes?

This is correct, Eero. I forget the exact number, but the Lord Ruler gave beads of lerasium to his original supporters, making them full-power Mistborn and giving Allomancy to the nobility. This is why there were so many Mistborn in the early days of the Final Empire. As the noble population grew and the bloodlines got diluted, Allomancy began to fracture again, making Mistings more common than full Mistborn, and Allomancers as a whole became increasingly rare.

Actually, no. What happens is, you have ten Surges, and each of those Surges contributes to two orders. So you have basically something like this: Gravity + Pressure = Windrunners Gravity + ??? = Szeth's Order Soulcasting + Lightning = Jasnah's Order Soulcasting + ??? (Possibly something Memory-oriented) = Shallan's Order

are the writing/glyph systems the same across the cosmere?
KChan replied to iceheart's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I assume no; after all, separate languages exist even within the Shard worlds themselves: the various Terris dialects on Scadrial, not to mention any language(s) the Khlenni might have used, Alethi, Veden, etc on Roshar, Arelish/Aonic (for the life of me, I can't remember which it is) and Duladen on Sel, etc. etc. With all that linguistic diversity, I find it hard to believe that everyone would use the same writing system. -
It's not that bad, really; you can do a lot with just a simple satin stitch. I find the best way to learn is get yourself an embroidery hoop and thread, sketch a design on a scrap of fabric, and practice! I managed to get a good bit of embroidery done for an Aes Sedai shawl I was doing, and I hadn't embroidered anything in years.

Mmmm, delicious! Now I want icecream. Thanks a lot. So, any more takers for WoT?

Trolls. Always da trolls, mon! Speaking of which... Alliance or Horde?

I think that's the most heart emotes I've ever seen from a guy. XD Anyways, yeah, Brandon really opened the door to so many great things for me. But it was Wheel of Time that really pulled me into fantasy. I loved Lord of the Rings (still do, of course) and pretty much any other fantasy-type book I could get my hands on, but it was Wheel of Time that first showed me what epic fantasy is all about, and just how amazing worldbuilding can be.

So, in my Wheel of Time journey, I've always been fascinated by the Aes Sedai. Frustrated, sometimes, but fascinated nonetheless. Here we have an organization of powerful women - in more ways than one - who shape the events of the world. But at the same time, they're still human - perhaps more so than even they themselves would prefer to admit. So. That said, one of the questions that often comes up in my discussions with other WoT fans is: which Ajah would you choose? Even my male friends get in on it, pretending for the sake of conversation that Asha'man had Ajahs as well. For me, it's a tossup between Green and Brown. On one hand, I'm a total bookworm and can easily spend all day reading. But on the other, I'm extremely active. I teach martial arts, I like guns (when used responsibly, of course), and of course, there's the requisite (and somewhat stereotypical) liking of men. I've always got along better with men in general than I have with women, and many of the female friends I do have also get along with men better. I have a temper, though it's not always easy to bring out. That said, many of my WoT friends have told me that they always saw me as a Green, so in the end, that tipped the scales for me. What about you guys? What's your Ajah, and why?

Poor Wheel of Time board. It looks so lonely without any threads in it. So! Fellow WoT readers! What brought you into the turnings of the Wheel? Was it finding out Brandon is finishing the series? Perhaps a friend or family member sharing a book with you? What did it, and what got you hooked? For me, I was in High School. I want to say it was Freshman year, but I'm not positive. Anyways, the school was having its semi-annual book fair, and one of the volumes they were selling happened to be From the Two Rivers, the YA release of the first half of Eye of the World. My friend, having just purchased the book himself, showed it to me. I had already told him numerous times how I like fantasy, and have a particular fondness for very long books, and so when he introduced FtTR as being the first half of the first volume of what was going to be a twelve-volume series, my interest was piqued. I purchased the book, found myself quickly pulled in, and devoured it in no time. The cutoff really got to me too: what was going to happen to Perrin and Egwene? What's the deal with the wolves? Is the gang ever going to find each other? I went out immediately and purchased the full copy of Eye of the World, and the rest, as they say, is history. What's your story?

Hey, that's still more than I can do! And that would be pretty darn awesome.

Okay, so, some of you might have caught this interesting little tidbit on the Reddit Q&A: Permalinks: Question, Answer Now, this is interesting. Until now, I had just been assuming that they were the same number because 10 is a holy number on Roshar, and that was the end of it. But it appears there's something more to it. From this, I gather that there will be one book for each of the Orders of the Knights Radiant, starting with the Windrunners. But wait, isn't Kaladin a Windrunner? Read on: Permalink: Here So, here we have two things: first, it is confirmed - and has been - that each book will spotlight one main character. Second, it is confirmed that the number of books has to do with the Orders of the Knights Radiant, with heavy implication that there will be one book per Order. Now, take a look at the list of characters Brandon has given us for book spotlights. Out of this list, Kaladin, Jasnah, Shallan, and Szeth all have powers we know were used by the Knights Radiant. Dalinar seems like an obvious candidate to gain powers of his own at some point, and to a somewhat lesser extent, so does Adolin. Even Navani makes sense if you think about it, though I hadn't pegged her for it originally. And Taln is sort of a special case, being a Herald, but he most certainly has powers of his own. Could this mean that each book will feature a member of the new Knights Radiant? One who will re-establish his or her Order? It's too early to tell, but I definitely think it's possible.

Pencil. Always. Odium or Ruin?

Correction, then: I've met one person who does. As for the sidebars, if I had Windows 8, those would be the second thing to get Avada Kedavra'd - after the Ribbon, of course. I like my widescreen because it gives me more room to actually do things. Filling that space up with sidebars is kind of counterproductive, at least for me. ^^;
