I agree that something is up with Cusicesh and in the end, it will have to do with BAM in some way. Not sure I agree about the "dull-form" idea since there isn't anything like that for the Thrill when it gets trapped by Dalinar. But, there is something there. I was theorizing this morning myself that perhaps the gem that BAM is trapped inside is at the bottom of that bay and the connections that were severed when she was trapped have come together here and melded together. We know whatever was done created a "wound", so I'm thinking that the Radiant spren's cognitive aspects as well as the cognitive parts of the Parshendi who were connected to BAM when she was trapped are all drawn here like a gravity well of cognitive Connections. Or something. I think it will be key in SA5... Can't wait.

Endowment on Ashyn (Back Half)
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to KaladinWorldsinger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's some Sauron thinking there. I don't think the Shard's think like that. Especially one that has held their Shard since the beginning. Endowment's Intent has likely overtaken Edgli, so her goals will be Endowing, improving, empowering. None of those things deal with Nightblood or what Nightblood does or can do which is now they opposite of her thing. You may in the end be proved right, it just doesn't feel like something that makes sense to me. -
Shard blades are about to become scarier. (SP #4)
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Rg2045's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I assume BAM's release will be responsible for spren no longer being Dead Eye period, broken oaths or not. And it seems that Sigzil's Oaths aren't quite as broken in that preview as he and his spren seem to think based on his ability to call Aux as a blade -
Does Rock have a Herald ancestor?

Pretty sure it's related to their Singer blood more than anything. Though living next to a Perpendicularity can't hurt -
Navani and Zahel [Navani levels up theory]
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to ReinyxGrey's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I mean it would be very useful for Navani to gain Second Heightening in what she's learning/doing research about. And while I agree that Vasher would rather his breaths be useful than wasted, but I dont' think he'd have to give his Divine Breath in order to get her there I expect that he'll end up using his Divine Breath to heal someone on Roshar at the end of SA5 personally. Maybe even Maya or something like that if not one of the main POV characters in a time of crisis. -
Endowment on Ashyn (Back Half)
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to KaladinWorldsinger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Why would Endowment want Nightblood? I theorized a long time ago that she Returned Shashara in order to make Nightblood, in order to kill Odium. I was... kind of right in the end, even if that wasn't Endowment's intention, I called Nightblood's narrative purpose to a large degree. But I don't think she has any desire for Nightblood back at this point. But in the main she's focused on Nalthis and not concerned with Cosmere wide efforts. -
I have always thought of it as the Cognitive "whole" of a geopolitical region, which includes the geography, culture, customs, as well as the affinities of those nations for others. hence why a Teod can be taken by the Shaod if they are in Arelon. Because Teod and Arelon are Cognitively aligned with their religion and their political ties.

Compounding and Soulcasting, Forever
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Mazman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Not necessarily you could go the other route too. A Surgebinder with Soulcasting Surge to have access to unsealed Nicrosilmind that grants Nicrosil compounding. You'd have to have both nicrosil allomancy and feruchemy though. There is a WoB I remember once that said a nicrosil compounder could create infinite investiture essentially. I guess Soulcasting would be a way to store it! -
Well, we know that one of K's goals is escaping Scadrial. That's why the Ghostbloods were/are trying to capture Kalak and bring him for questioning. The transportation of investiture just seems pragmatic. If you have easily transportable, consistently renewing Investiture you can source and you're then only one, then you can viably power magics of different types in places that they might not be able to be used and so have a power that is unknown to locals which always will give you an edge. What K's ultimate goal is... ?? He's got too much of Ruin in him to really be fighting to "Preserve" the Cosmere, which is why he couldn't hold Preservation for very long/effectively. Plus, Sanderson has said that, K is a psychopath. In Era 1 we see him.. .mostly put that psychopathy to "good' use. But as a Cognitive Shadow... Vasher has said that when a CS lives too long, they can become hyperfocused to an Intent. So whatever K's Intent is at this point and how he's using the GB to achieve that?

I love the idea, it just doesn't fit the known timelines. Raboniel's grandmother was alive when humans came to Roshar, not Raboniel Humans came to Roshar having "destroyed" Ashyn... and brought Odium with them (maybe, but similar time frame regardless) Odium ... wasn't around until after the Shattering of Adonalsium. I'm kind of with the Iriali on the whole "one broke apart to many to experience all things" theory. I know it's probably not true, but it's my head canon until we see Dragonsteel canon.

What is everyone's theory for the 4 books?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to AidenTollis's topic in Cosmere Discussion
He actually says that in the KS page: I'm hoping for Silverlight, Silence Divine. Who knows... maybe Nightblood if it gets tied into Silverlight or another world hopping planet between Warbreaker and SA. -

Moash, and the fans who hate him
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Jash's topic in Stormlight Archive
God yeah, I'd hate if that one guy who had a different POV of that series were to come back to this discussion. I love ASOIF fwiw. Yes I know GRRM says that his stories are about the human heart in conflict with itself, but don't get it twisted, that series is about power at the end of the day. I purposefully wasn't responding in a long drawn out detailed fashion to individual characters and my view points on each and every one of them because this is a Sanderson site, not ASOIF site. I hate Moash because he's a terrible person who despite repeatedly being offered a chance to stop doing the things he's doing decides that he'd rather triple down on this hateful evil actions. I don't need comparisons to other people to determine how I feel about him. My feels for Dalinar or Kaladin or any other character in no way has to impact how I feel about Moash. There are voidbringers in RoW who are more relatable and less hateful to me in their choices and actions than Moash. My hate for Moash is not based on a single event or action of his but a culmination of all his choices and lack of self reflective choice. -
Moash, and the fans who hate him
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Jash's topic in Stormlight Archive
No, I don't think Tywin/Tyrion are the only characters in the series. I started to write out a long response on ASOIF characters, but ... this isn't the place for discussing those characters. Suffice it to say in my view point those in that series who try to do "the right thing" as a character trait, mostly end up killed by the rest of the characters in that series because it is a series about power, keeping power, and winning power. The main characters of SA have all failed in some way, or done terrible things in the past, but these things haunt them and drive them to do better, become better, do good and strive for the good of the world. We meet (almost) all of them post the really terrible stuff, get to know their current personality and then see the bad stuff in flashbacks. So there is a cognitive disconnect of our enjoyment of the characters and their past evils. Or, like Szeth we see how their evil torments them so we can sympathize with them. Moash we're watching in his "evil act" phase still. He may not ever "grow out of it" I don't know. Moash, even when repeatedly presented with the opportunity to step to that way, admit failings, work to overcome his issues and grow as a person and into a hero of the narratives, just flat out refuses. Not only does he refuse, but he doubles down on the crap he does and does even worse things to follow. I do agree that Moash is a well done character. if he wasn't he wouldn't elicit any emotion in readers a la John Walker from Falcon and the Winter Soldier and the reaction he received. That doesn't mean I can't hate him and I'm going to hate the Moash redemption arc if it comes. -
Moash, and the fans who hate him
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Jash's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don’t know that Moash hate is a small but vocal group. Most people I encounter outside of this website carry a burning hatred for the character. I would say most of the “high heat hate” is related to Rhythm of War, so come back to your feelings after that book. I disliked him before RoW. I despise/hate him now. OP is probably right, the … (insert bad words) … will probably get a redemption arc or something in later books. And I will dislike that whole section. To compare the ASOIF setting/characters to SA setting/characters is a little bit of apples and oranges. Tonally the two series are very different. ASOIF is all about utilitarian philosophy and Machiavellian applications of political power. Almost no one in that series is concerned about doing “the right thing” for the greater part of society, it’s all about personal or familial advancement or protection, the rest of the world be damned. Sadaes would be great in ASOIF world though. SA OTOH, has an entire magical order dedicated to doing what is “right” (per their vertical’s definition) regardless of the costs to themselves. Something you’d never see a hint of in ASOIF. I UNDERSTAND Moash’s motivations and choices. I would never say he doesn’t have depth or nuance. I can, and do, also still hate him. -
State of the Sanderson 2020 image
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to KSub's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think it's for sure symbolically relevant, though I don't know that it's got anything in terms of in-Cosmere in terms of easter eggs etc. It's probably more of a meta construct nodding to Adonalsium and the 16 Shards. Though I can actually make out the 7th Sun just to the below the last really visible one at "3 o'clock". The reason this might be relevant is that of the original Shard holders there are now 7 of them known to be deceased (Aona, Skai, Leras, Ati, Tanavast, Uli Da, and... that new one that happened recently and I don't want to accidentally spoil.) -
I really enjoyed the unique nature of the soul stamps and intrigue It was great I thought. I might be hesitant to say "amazing" as I would reserve that for other things, but it was great IMO

Did Brandon Sanderson rip off of a Children's novel?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to otock's topic in Stormlight Archive
I would argue that even if Brandon had read the Familiars and either consciously or unconsciously used that scene for his book it doesn’t make it a “rip off”. it would be using a neat idea for something that fit nicely into the world he had already crafted in The Way of Kings (chasms, chasm fiends, Light Weaving, etc). Or even an homage to a piece he enjoyed. “All art is theft” is a common idea in many/all forms of art. Picasso and TS Eliot are widely quoted as talking about this concept. Shakespeare lifted whole plot lines from people. Search for “John Williams stoke Star Wars music” sometime for the million YouTube videos we n that topic. interesting review paper of a Cambridge Press book on the subject of Intellectual property from 2008 that touches on this topic if only briefly: http://www.dklevine.com/papers/b_l_review.pdf -
