  1. Ok, well since it was free... I read it! Just in case spoiler for my thoughts on it:
  2. I thought just the first chapter would be free... Huh... looks like Brandon broke the MTG site!
  3. I have to admit that I'm a bit underwhelmed at this as his secret project. I'm glad for him that he gets to engage his passion hobby on a professional level. I'm sure that was cool as heck to get to work directly with the WotC MTG team on this project. But... I just don't care about MTG universe or novels now that I don't play the game. Don't get me wrong, I still own the first ever MTG novel, Arena and the rest of the Greensleeves Trilogy and I re-visit it now and again to be reminded of when I actually played back in HS. Anyway, I'll still probably buy it... and probably enjoy it, this announcement as the secret project is just underwhelming to me.
  4. I suppose this is the Secret Project that is on second draft right now on the website?
  5. Thanks for posting this. I hadn't made that connection before and it's pretty cool!
  6. I felt like there was too much focused hatred of Spin in those moments she saw/felt the eyes to represent all other random Cyto beings in the galaxy/universe. I also don't feel like the snippets of conversation she listened into at the end evince "hatred" so much as worry/fear. There is something going on with the "eyes" that is... more than meets the eye so to speak IMO. Whether it's some Cognitive/Cyto locale entities or some singular powerful Cyto being who is watching humans with a hated eye or something, but something is going on.
  7. Haha - true. Though I dislike that kind of writing 100% of the time because it makes it sometimes too easy on the ready to foretell. You see a gun, you know a gun will be used, it's just a matter of by whom on whom. I'd rather be told of the gun hanging on the wall next to the broadsword and a painting of battle, and then come to find out later that the someone was beaten to death in that room than shot/stabbed/hit over the head with a painting. The room evoked violence, so it still served a purpose, but it didn't present a MacGuffin or 1:1, gun = direct death. Sometimes a Doomslug is just a teleporting Parrot Slug of DOOM. You know?
  8. I really enjoyed this book. It helped that it is tied to what is probably my favorite of Sanderson's short fiction works in Defending Elysium. I love that story! I was sad to note/see that this story was set so far in the future of DE, and also to see that humanity essentially lost the galactic war and had either been "passified" or unwittingly incarcerated. I'd hoped that we'd get to see more clearly the thread from DE's ending to Skyward's beginning, but maybe that is to come in the future still. I kind of hope that Doomslug is just a red slug herring I can't wait to find out the more specific history of M-Bot... where he came from, who his final pilot was, why he'd basically been hidden or stashed away in the first place. Why is he obsessed with mushroom, so many QUESTIONS?!? The eyes in the stars with hatred towards her, towards humanity are an intriguing thread. M-Bot's dropped crumbs about them, her seeing them, her father seeing them. I wonder if Gran-gran can see them... also does Gran-gran have true "sense" ala Jason Write (which I loved that easter egg of the brain part being named after him). EDIT: Now I need to go re-read HARRE as well as there do seem to be some concepts or tie-in's there that I might be missing. Interesting if he tries to tie all three stories together at some point. HARRE always seemed much more Heinlein type hard scifi than the DE world/concept to me. Kind of like LE Modesitt's two novels Haze and Adiamante where:
  9. I was wondering and hoping before release that Skyward would be part of the Defending Elysium world, it's long been on of my favorite Sanderson pieces, so when I read M-Bot listing off a Cytonic Hpyerdrive I *squeed* really hard (in my own head anyway).
  10. Since I have the other three... yes I’ll be buying it!
  11. Why couldn’t it have been Odium that sent it? Like he did to T?
  12. It IS possible to bond two spren... maybe he was the EDGE case
  13. Unfortunately as I remember it, each time you burned it you’d overwrite your spirit web and become a new misting until you burned its pure form and then you’d just be a mistborn. I would cut a part of it off to preserve it (see what I did there??) and then burn the rest to become mistborn. Then I’d see if I could figure out a way to use the sliver to become full born somehow.
  14. Gender roles with the the bifurcation of men's & women's arts in the Vorin religions. How that effects power structures. That is something that can be re-looked at through all three books as well.
  15. Thanks and I hope you enjoy your purchase! Just keep it away from pets, children, other people and their dirty hands, etc...
  16. That's a hard and pretty subjective question. They are beautiful. They feel good, they look amazing, they have lots of extra art and fun stuff inside. $100 is a lot though. I've been buying them as they come out once a year, so I'm using my Birthday/Christmas $ to buy them. I think it's worth it, but it's a lot of money for a book that is going to look pretty on a shelf and rarely get read/opened (I re-read my kindle versions, not the leatherbound editions!), so depends on how you want to spend your hard earned $
  17. A Fullborn who picks up enough breath for the 5th heightening so I don't have to worry about getting Atium for my immortality! if I had to choose just one... man hard to choose. I'd love sail the skies like a Mistborn or a Windrunner/Skybreaker but there is something to be said for being able to eat as much as I want and store all the excess calories and not get fat as a full feruchemist...
  18. Have to be double gold... infinite healing? there isn't much that beats that.
  19. They are on semi-opposite sides of the Radiabt chart as well
  20. IMO, She isn't a scientist/engineer of fabrial design as I think you see her. Like others have said, she advises, and finances, and casts vision for her ardents. I see her much more as a tech company CEO, who understands tech to a degree, but couldn't actually engineer the stuff he/she wants built or designed. Leading the teams and casting the vision/goal of the work, but not actually doing the work themselves. We each have our view of the characters, and I guess you're reading her differently than the rest of us... *shrug*, not a big deal. Unfortunately when that is the case you're not going to get a lot of "me too reactions!"
  21. Two words: Elon Musk very few geekier and very few who are as aggressive in pursuing their goals and achieving them than him.
  22. Unless there is a WoB that I haven't seen, at this point we have no idea what happened to/with Shallan pre-killing her mother that would have broken her to the point of being able to bond Pattern, that is still RAFO. I have an inkling of some hints in OB, but I can't for the life of me remember them right now, and they weren't definitive even if they were hints. Just more statements of something dark before the mother's death.
  23. Pretty sure it's quantum entanglement. From a Realmatics perspective... I'd say that though their physical aspect is trapped and split, their cognitive aspect remains one, so it just mirrors actions. The one that confuses me a bit is the inversers like the lifted platform. Not sure how a combined cognitive aspect results in opposite physical effects.
