  1. I disagree. In my opinion for Preservation's general plan it was enough that Allomancy existed. People could have realized what Allomancy was and that it could be used to burn Atium, but they needed to work on this on their own, make the right choices. Leras gave them tools, they just needed to connect the dots and figure stuff on their own. If they had been incapable of doing so, Scadrial would have been lost (if Ruin was freed back then). That you think Mists just weren't appearing before Rashek's times? That's not true, they were always on Scadrial after Ruin was imprisoned, but only during the night. Preservation left them to be autonomous, they were lying dormant waiting for the Well to be filled, then they were activated and started to persist during the day longer and longer. That was always happening. Even during Alendi's time, there were people who disregarded the threat posed by the Deepness? Why would they do this if Mists were unknown before? Because they weren't, they knew the Mists, they knew they posed no danger, they didn't think they could change. TFE ch 22 epigraphs: That's one possibility. The other is that the First Generation knew some of it before Rashek's Ascension. We don't know how much of what they knew came from Rashek and what was originally part of their religion. Ruin didn't have just one perpendicularity, he had many. There were several smaller perpendicularities in and under the Pits of Hathsin and that's because the Pits contained a massive amounts of investiture which can pierce all realms if there is too much of it in one place. Wherever the Pits were, there were Ruin's perpendicularities. And because we KNOW from Alendi's journal that one of Ruin's Shardpool was spotted close to the Well, we know that's where the Pits containing Atium were located. Additionally, we know that Rashek didn't just move the Well to Luthadel, he shifted the entire crust of Scadrial so he could place Luthadel on top of the Well, in lower latitudes - this means that the location of the Pits relative to the Well was preserved. The Well and the Pits were always close to each other. Because of this, because Atium was almost exactly at the north pole, high in the highest mountains, far away from any human settlement, people would have no idea about it at allo. I proposed that the religion of Terris contained some information about Atium, something like saying there is the physical body of gods somewhere out there or stuff like this. Not naming it, not saying exactly what it does, just vague clues about its existence - enough to make people realize what needs to be done when the time comes, but not enough to make Ruin realize its true meaning. Also, we know that ancient Terris were knowledgeable about Realmatics, they were studying if trees can think - it's possible they were able to use the Well or Pits to travel into the CR.
  2. Extra strength in A=electrum isn't very useful compared to Atium. I bet you would see slightly further into the future with every shadow, but it won't reduce the numbers of shadows. Unless you tap a huge amount of Fortune at once then you would peer directly into the Spiritual Realm, like Elend did at the end of HoA - only then it would be useful. No breaking of "the Cosmere's prohibition against dueling-futuresight-feedback" would happen, the Oracle with F-chromium would gain a slight advantage over the normal Oracle. Even Shards can't overcome this prohibition.
  3. Firstly, Shardblades don't repulse investiture like Trellium does. Secondly, Harmonium is as investiture dense as a Shardblade is (because it's a physical solid manifestation of investiture - a god metal) and thus it would fully stop a Shardblade cut, just like another Shardblade does. A Shardblade wouldn't cut Harmonium spiritually, only physically and only when you heat it up to 3000 degrees (but using a Shardblade in this scenario is hard anyway). You wouldn't produce any Lerasium or Atium, you wouldn't produce any explosion, the only thing that would happen is you would separate Harmonium into two pieces, which would still be Harmonium - just like when Wax tried to cut it in half himself. TLM ch 15:
  4. They still need to swear Ideal. They are a bit different but they are still a part of the process. Seems like Ishar discovered or bound the Nahel Bond itself to make Radiants. Spren choosing not to make a Radiant seems like an impossible task as long as they are bonding via a Nahel Bond. RoW I-1:
  5. The entire system was created directly by Adonalsium, spren included. They are an important part of Rosharan ecology - without spren life as it is on Roshar can't exist. That's why there are so many spren on Roshar. Once investiture gains sapience, it tends to be shaped by thoughts of those around it and that's how they became the embodiment of emotions and nature. I would say it's the opposite - Roshar is "supernatural" compared to other places. Spren aren't needed for Earth-like life at all, they aren't a part of the ecosystem thus there are so few of them in Shonovar. Shinovar is a reflection of a typical, low-invested world (Ashyn), while the rest of Roshar was created and developed as a highly invested planet. This makes it different. As for the people, they all came from Ashyn. Every ethnicity you see today on Roshar (except for Natans, Iriali, Horneaters and Herdazians) existed on Ashyn and migrated to Roshar when Ashyn was destroyed. We know this because Heralds themselves are ethnically divided and they all were born on Ashyn and lived through the migration - Ishar looks like Shin, Nale looks like Makabaki, Jezrien looks like Alethi etc. All those ethnicities were present on Ashyn before they came to Roshar. There was only one big migration from Ashyn, Elsecalling powered by a Bondsmith (not of the Rosharan type), but there was another, second migration - Iriali. They didn't come from Ashyn, they came from somewhere else. They have golden skin and hair and live in the nation of Iri today. Yes, they aren't native to Roshar. Shinovar was given to humans so the plants and animals they brought with them could grow there. It's possible Shards were involved as well in making Shinovar Ashyn-like. OB ch 1113: RoW ch 76:
  6. We know they came together to Roshar and invested equally in it. Odium arrived to the system when Honor and Cultivation were already settled on Roshar. Lastly, it was Cultivation who at some time in the past visited and invested more in Ashyn - but she didn't settle there (technically Shards settle in the entire solar system, not just one planet).
  7. It can be a factor, but they are insane mainly because they've been living for thousands of years, much of it was them dying and being tortured. This is just too much for a soul to handle simply because a mortal soul was not made to live for that long. We can see how this affected them as early as in the WoK Prelude. No, it seems like she thinks they don't deserve to be worshiped after what they've done to Taln. Her madness won't go away just because people would stop worshiping her as the problem is much deeper. Edit: Another WoB about perception's effects on CS:
  8. Currently, as of SA, they are on Roshar and they live in the kingdom of Iri (you can read more about them in the Ym interlude in WoR I-2). However, by their beliefs they are a worldhopping culture on a pilgrimage known as the Long Trail. They migrate between worlds in the search of the Seventh Land, where they will become thr One again. Roshar is the Fourth Land and they arrived there separately from Ashynites. Tress is happening far into the future of Cosmere, which means at some point Iriali left Roshar to continue along their Long Trail. Unfortunately, we don't know where they came from before settling on Roshar.
  9. With all due respect, in my opinion those two WoBs together leave no room for any other interpretation, unless there are other WoBs contradicting it. The second WoB literally said that Hoid can't leave Roshar without breaking his bond. But it all comes down to how one defines the "maintain powers" phrase. For me it means Hoid has access to them, can theoretically use them (if he can fuel them) and that means Design had to be with Hoid on Scadrial. If someone interprets it as "didn't lose the bond but can't access powers" then you can argue that there are other options.
  10. I was saying that Radiants are bound to Roshar due to their Nahel Bond, not just because of how invested they are. In Yumi Design said that strong Connections rarely span interstellar distances, so I think it's reasonable to assume that due to their shared bond (through which they would inherit spren's binding Connection to Roshar), Radiant won't be able to leave without breaking their bond. We may argue if Mraize's words were to be trusted, but the WoB said Hoid maintained his powers, which means he has them and can use them, which means Design has to be with him on Scadrial. Yumi ch 21: Edit: WoB confirming what I said:
  11. I think that's because Oathgates are conjoined fabrials (but not made like modern ones by splitting spren in half). Each gate is a separate fabrial, manifested from one spren, but two gates are paired with each other. Each gate in Urithiru is paired with one gate somewhere else. Because of this pairing, two spren of both fabrials always manifest at every Oathgate, but they are the same spren for every pair of Oathgates.
  12. I would argue that giving a spren Connection to another planet via Hemalurgy might actually work. But you would probably need to steal a very strong Connection, Connection so strong that it would normally prevent an individual from leaving their planet, someone who is limited in the same way as spren. This is because I think you would need to balance the strength of those two Connections, otherwise the Rosharan Connection will always win (yes, Connections can have different strengths). So unless you steal the Connection to Scadrial from Kelsier (who's just like a spren), this probably won't work. A Worldhopper Radiant won't be able to leave, just like their spren, because it's the Nahel Bond which binds them to the Rosharan System. That's why it was such a big deal when Hoid appeared on Roshar in Era 2. He did it with his bond and powers intact. Design was with him on Scadrial somewhere. RoW ch 13: I just say Yumi.
  13. Welcome to the Shard. The most passionless person in Cosmere trying to pick up Odium? Nale would be incapable of Ascending to Odium because he lacks emotions and due to this he lacks the understanding of what Odium really is. RoW spoilers:
  14. Yes, solid investiture is more resilient to anti-investiture. It probably wouldn't be pleasant for spren to be hit with a bolt of anti-light, but it shouldn't do any significant damage to them.
  15. We have a WoB confirming that Odium was allowed to settle on Roshar: Autonomy didn't come to Scadrial to settle there, she just used investiture that was already present in the system and that's the difference.
  16. Rashek wasn't a Cognitive Shadow, he was just a Sliver (a person who Ascended and then gave up the power, which expanded his soul) which allowed him to become a Cognitive Shadow after death, but his body aged normally and he needed Atium Compounding to trick his way into agelessness. After Rashek died, because he touched the power of the Shard and expanded his soul, he could have stayed and be a Cognitive Shadow, but he decided to fade into the Beyond. There are different types of Cognitive Shadows, not everyone works in the same way. Returned have a Divine Breath which connects their body to their soul and allows them to live, but they also need to feed on any investiture to sustain that Divine Breath and their body. Others are stronger types of CS like Kel, Fused or Heralds, which are sometimes Connected directly to their Shards and feed directly on their power and that's why they don't need to feed on investiture like Returned. A Cognitive Shadow in general requires a strong Connection to either the Physical Realm (Returned), or the Spiritual Realm (others) - sever those Connections and they just fade into the Beyond like every normal soul (which is what happened to Jezrien). Mistborn Era 2 spoilers: Quotes and WoBs for you: RoW ch 92-93 epigraphs: RoW ch 15:
  17. It was never said Odium created a body for the Pursuer, only that it was done the old way. This can mean they found a Singer, made him attune to a specific Rhythm and open themselves to a new host, like it's done during Everstorms and the Pursuer was pulled towards them. I highly doubt Odium created their body directly when there were so many Singers ready to accept them, just like they accepted Voidspren. No Fused ever said that the way they are being reborn now is so much different than how it used to be done. And that body would have been eventually broken down and returned to Odium, so Odium doesn't lose everything (in the long run). Moreover, Odium wasn't fully invested on Roshar until recently (sometime after the Recreance). Odium was unwilling to invest significantly and that's why he wouldn't have done what you propose.
  18. Nohadon lived after Urithiru and the Sibling were created (which happened 6000 years ago, 1000 years after humanity arrived on Roshar), but before Radiants were established. We don't know when it happened, but we know they already existed during the 6th Epoch (that's when SayTheWords were written). For comparison the 8th Epoch lasted around 350 years (WoK ch 19 the Starfall vision) and each Epoch is a period between Desolations, which got progressively shorter as Heralds were breaking faster on Braize. So Nohadon lived 4000-3000 years before Honor actually died. The earliest direct mention of Honor behaving differently was from the gem archive recorded during the False Desolation (OB ch 67 epigraphs), when Honor was dying. His changed behavior was also confirmed by the Stormfather during this period (OB ch 113), so it's consistent with what we know. You cannot swap Vessels without anyone noticing, there is a change in Shard's Tone that can be heard by spren like the Sibling or the Stormfather, possibly others would notice it too. Hoid would also eventually realize that Honor was behaving differently from Tanavast and that a new Vessel Ascended. It's impossible to keep it a secret for 4000 years or so without anyone knowing. WaT ch 19: As for the swap of gods that started Desolations, we don't know what happened there at all, but we know Dawnsingers betrayed spren in some way that made them turn to humans. It seems that Dawnsingers started the swap of gods, not Honor. And it happened at least 1000 years before Nohadon lived. RoW ch 109:
  19. If they were able to spy directly on Dalinar's secret conversation with Hoid that happened a few hours ago, they were able to spy on Navani and steal this knowledge when for example she was explaining it to her scientists or something like that. They have members in important positions in many governments, so it would be very easy for them to get vacuum tubes. I'm not surprised they already have anti-light.
  20. Maybe, but I wouldn't go this far. He was warning Iyatil about Shallan, that's true, but she dismissed it. He might have expected Shallan to try something like this and he was ever proud of her. However, that's not enough for me not to feel disappointed. Ghostbloods just failed to deliver what was promised and I don't see any reason to believe that someone planned all of this, Mraize included.
  21. Syl was among the very first generation created by the Stormfather after Honor passed this task onto him, shortly before his death. Others died during the Recreance, Syl's knight died before that and this spared her from becoming a Deadeye. Yes, this happened during the False Desolation, not before. OB ch 108: Coppermind on Syl: And nobody during those 4000 years noticed that Honor's Vessel changed? It took the Sibling just a short peak into Odium's Tone to know that it has a new Vessel. Everybody would have known that Honor's changed hands, Hoid included. He knew Tanavast well, he eventually would have noticed Honor switched hands. Well, he didn't, he refers to Honor as Tanavast, he knows Tanavast was Honor's Vessel and died holding Honor, not Nohadon. Kalak also is certain that Honor, which he refers to as Tanavast as well, is dead and the Stormfather is now Tanavest's Cognitive Shadow. RoW ch 82: RoW ch 87: I think people missed why we have epigraphs talking about abdication - it's not because Nohadon Ascended to Honor after Tanavast "abdicated," it's because Dalinar needs to learn to abdicate, to give up his power and let other rule, to foreshadow that he might give up the power of Honor - he is already considering this option. Somehow, people jumped to the conclusion that Nohadon died as Honor's Vessel. Timeline doesn't fit, the Mishim story doesn't fit, and many contradicted this because they know Tanavast died holding Honor, not someone else. WaT ch 25:
  22. The difference is that Kel and his crew made every possible precaution to avoid being caught. They had Seekers, Smokers and Tineyes guarding their hideouts, two Mistborn, several Thugs with trained troops and one Feruchemist ready to defend their crew. In comparison Ghostboolds had some sand and a secret tunnel - that's it. Where is this "most powerful organization in Cosmere" Mraize was talking about? Not on Roshar apparently. Everything went way too smoothly for Shallan, so much so that it seemed like it was foreshadowing some twist, but there was nothing, Ghostbloods were just spectacularly incompetent. That's why it's dissapointing. Why? Just why? Why not just burn Lerasium themselves to gain powers? That's just a bad idea - use primer cubes charged with aluminum instead. Cheeper, simpler, reliable and more effective. And during WaT Era 2 is still in the future. Kel has no Lerasium and probably won't have Lerasium even after TLM.
  23. No. Syl's Radiant and Syl herself were both fighting during the False Desolation, when BAM connected herself to all Singers and gave them forms of powers without Voidspren, Fused and Odium. This happened shortly before the Recreance and ended when Mishram was imprisoned, 2,500 years after Aharietiam. This was also the first time when Radiants noticed that something was off with Honor and Honor himself was changing. OB ch 67 epigraphs: OB ch 113: It's unknown if Ishar was a Dawnshard in the past, although it's possible. However, most Heralds stopped aging when they became Heralds and their current look indicates how old they were when this happened. All Heralds. with the possible exception of Ash, were born on Ashyn and they all aged normally before they became Heralds. Nohadon most likely lived before Knights Radiants were established by Ishar, but after Spren started bonding and giving Surgebinding to people. This means he lived before the 6th Epoch (when SayTheWords and the first mention of Radiants were recorded) if not earlier. For comparison the Starfall vision from WoK ch 19 happened in the year 337 of the 8th Epoch. WoK ch 60: He most likely lived hundreds, if not more than a thousand years before Aharietiam, but after the Sibling was created as Urithiru already existed back then. So at most 6,000 years ago, which is 4,000 years before the Recreance and the death of Honor. That's a long, long time. That's why I'm skeptical that it's Nohadon who is the CS merged with the Stormfather. Timeline simply doesn't fit. Sure, Nohadon might have temporarily Ascended to Honor and then became a Sliver (as per Hoid's story about moons), thus he could have become a permanent Cognitive Shadow, but he would still have to wait for 4,000 years to merge with the Stormfather. He didn't hold the Shard of Honor when Honor died, it was Tanavast. However, in the Hoid's story it wasn't blue Nomon (Honor's moon) who switched places with Queen Tsa, it was green Mishim (Cultivation's moon) who did that - this story doesn't match this theory because it talks about a different event.
  24. The WoB was provided in that post, just below the fragment you quoted, in the spoiler box: This makes sense. Consider what would happen if an atom of helium (2 protons, 2 electrons and 2 neutrons) meet an antiatom of antihydrogen (1 antiproton, 1 positron and 0 antineutrons). There would be annihilation of 1 pair of proton-antiproton and 1 pair of electron-positron (which would be fully turned into energy), but not the entirety of the helium atom - 1 proton, 1 electron and 2 neutrons would be left without being annihilated because there is not enough antiparticles for that. But there would still be a reaction of whatever can react. Edit: that was a bad example tbf. Mass obviously doesn't match, it's like comparing 2 broams of investiture with 1 broam of anti-Investiture - of course there would be leftovers... Different approach - Investiture is a wave, destructive interference makes it annihilate with anti-investiture. But you can have partial destructive interference too. That's why investiture will annihilate with any type of anti-investiture, but when they match, the reaction is stronger. If you want full annihilation, you need to manufacture proper lights, otherwise you won't destroy all of your enemy's soul, especially if just injecting them with anti-light isn't enough to annihilate their soul. The more efficient the reaction is, the more deadly it is. Anti-Stormlight is anti-investiture and it's opposite to Stormlight.
  25. If Lieke also is bonded, which we don't know. We only know that both Mraize and Iyatil are. Doesn't matter. Any anti-investiture will react with any investiture. If they match, the reaction is stronger. But humans were on Roshar for 7000 years, they've been invested with investiture of Shards present in the system, every human have Honor's investiture in them - "Honor isn't dead as long as he lives in hearts of man." There was no Honorblade there (at least before WoR if Shins stole Taln's blade). I think Odium just really, really hates Taln - the Thaylen temple of Taln was the most destroyed temple in the city. He probably ordered his Unmade to take over this temple because of it. Edit: Iyatil was clear in last week's chapter - she didn't expect Shallan to infiltrate and was surprised that Shallan impersonated as one of her own people. There is nothing more to it, no trick. They've been outsmarted too quickly, which we have to accept, even if this is disappointing.
