  1. This is Hemalurgy, because Hemalurgy is not tied to Scadrial, it's a Cosmere-wide phenomena just like Lightweaving, Midnight Essence, or even Awakening are, which can manifest differently on different places depending on planets and Shards present there. Awakening can be performed without Breaths, it's still Awakening, Hemalurgy can be performed without metal, it's still Hemalurgy.
  2. I'm not convinced it all went according to Cultivation's plan, even if you listed it like this and it sounds reasonable. I got the impression that Retribution was not her plan, however she foresaw it and was prepared just in case, but she still feared it coming - and that's why she ran away. She spent way too much time trying to teach and convince Taravangian to do the right thing, which failed. Then she even tried to threaten Taravangian's family to get him to withdraw, which failed spectacularly (this pocket universe didn't really change anything, Taravangian already had a weak point before Cultivation intervened). But she was prepared for this, she foresaw this might happen and Dalinar was her backup plan. He was meant to Ascend to Honor and deal with Taravangian, but I think he didn't do what she wanted him to do. She didn't want him to break all oaths and give Honor to Taravangian. She might have predicted it, but it was rather the worst case scenario and Lift is probably her backup backup plan. Taravangian said that Cultivation ejected herself from Roshar while being terrified and I think that's true. She feared this outcome, even if she was preparing Lift for it.
  3. Good thing I've stayed away from the forum since friday I'm satisfy with this outcome, the difference is that this Oathpact is not meant to prevent Fused from Returning (as it was clearly established in the book that it won't work anymore, Fused are reborn in the Everstorm without the need to return to Braize), but it's shielding spren from Retribution. The goal of the Oathpact is different now, which makes it reasonable. Most importantly, no torture is involved. It's a new Oathpact that fixes the problems of the old one. Lastly, Kal's character arc was completed, he did say the Words that he will protect himself (to protect the others). Congratulations on seeing all the clues leading to this @Faceless.Immortal, that was a great catch and it makes sense now.
  4. I believe an Aetherbound would be able to see their Aether in electrum Shadow, because it's an intrinsic part of them - it's part of their body, their spirit and their self-perception. Awakened objects however are autonomous, they act based on a Command spoken to them before and they are not a part of the Awakener at all, but also are partially alive and self-aware. So I think A-electrum probably won't include that in their shadow.
  5. I’m speechless. I’ve finished WaT an hour or two ago and I’m in shock and my mind is a mess, incapable of fully grasping what I have just read. It was beautiful, it was grand, it was amazing, it was radiant. So much happened, so many things were revealed, everything changed and I loved every single moment of this book. I can’t count the number of times I screamed with excitement while reading it. Seeing so many theories being fulfilled in one way or another was so satisfying. Chana was Shallan’s mother, I believed in this one, it happened, it was great. Ishar was a faker, just not a Stormfaker, an Unmade/Voice-faker and it was great to read. Gavinor was the champion (which was kind of obvious in this book) and while I wasn’t a fan of this theory, I’m fully satisfied with its execution. Kaladin in the end became a Herald, with Syl at his side - thankfully no tortues included. And so many Death Rattles were fulfilled, with chapters even being named after them, which was so good. Personally, I’ve enjoyed the Shinovar and Adolin’s plotlines the most. It was so good and fun to see Kaladin, Szeth, Syl, Nightblood and even Nale and Aux interact together and change during this "mostly" peaceful field trip across grassy land. Szeth’s flashbacks were very interesting and I couldn’t stop comparing Neturo to Lirin and how he reacted to his son becoming a killer in Kal’s flashbacks. Szeth’s fights with Honorbearers were stunning, especially the first one with Taln’s Honorblade bearer was my favorite in the whole book and Nightblood not only didn’t disappoint, he also grew, changed, and became in control, which was amazing - I love Nightblood sooo muuuch. And I couldn’t be more happier reading about Kal and Syl dancing together on the Wind - that was something I’ve longed for since I started reading SA, a moment of pure joy and happiness for Kaladin who suffered too much. I can’t wait to see the fanarts of this moment. Adolin in Azimir on the other hand gave me something which I have missed since WoR - a non-invested individual fighting against invested individuals with consequences and stakes. Old-schooled Shardbearer fighting for his life with no Stormlight or healing, against enemies that were an actual threat to him, not just an obstacle. It was good to have it back, with lots of Maya and lots of great moments. Taln… “for the broken” was perfect - another moment I need to see fanarts right now. I’m so excited for what the future of Cosmere will bring. Retribution has come, Cultivation fled, Shards were caught with their pants down, Roshar is broken more than ever, Radiants are basically non-functional outside of the Tower, which is isolated now and the Blackthorn will return. Everything changed and the time dilation is a brilliant way of Connecting Roshar’s plotline with the future of Cosmere, especially Mistborn Era 3 and 4. I really can’t wait for more, but I can’t even process every information received from WaT, so I shouldn’t be that impatient. I’ll need to reread WaT soon to sort everything out. And it was surprisingly satisfying to see Hoid being vaporized. Huh, no idea why, it just felt right and good, deserved even…
  6. Why would you even show your kids the body of their mother killed in rage? That would never happen, he would cover her and hide her body, possibly burn her to hide the truth. Nobody would ever know about burned-out eyes at all, nobody would see her body. It's also possible that he just gouged out her eyes to hide it, just like assassin Liss was doing to hide her Shardblade. Your wife just tried to kill your beloved daughter and she had to be killed by Shallan in self-defence, an act that will forever scar the mind of your child, but all you can think of is how rich you can become with this Shardblade? Some people can choose love over wealth, some people can reject a Shardblade because of the blood that's on it (Kaladin) - Lin doing the same for the sake of his beloved daughter isn't that far-fetched. He loved her, even if he wasn't the best father, especially to his other kids, but he still loved her and was clearly overprotective of her. He probably tried to take Shallan's Shardblade away from her at some point but it didn't work - he did it not because he wanted it, rather he wanted to separate Shallan from the weapon she used to kill her mother and trauma it could bring. I may be giving him too much credit, but I think that's what was on his mind back then, not money and status. Killing his wife already made him a political outcast, imagine what would have happened if he proclaimed to have a Shardblade that nobody knew before. Or he was aware of what it means to be a Radiant and what Testament really was - a spren. Keep the blade in her body until Shallan runs out of Stormlight? Just like Moash killed Elhokar. Skybreakers usually hunted freshly manifested Radiants who still didn't know anything about their powers, with no Ideals sworn and definitely no Shardblades - they would have assumed Shallan is no different than the others and she doesn't have a Shardblade yet - if they were working with Nale and all of that. Shardblade is not needed to kill a Radiant, it just makes it easier. OB ch 84: That man was a Skybreaker acylyte, which is a rank below squires, someone who has not sworn any Oaths yet but is a candidate for becoming a squire. He had no powers. She had a romance with a Skybreaker acylyte. OB ch 40: Around the same time, in the same year at least. Both the prologue and Shallan's flashbacks of that day are said to happen 6 years before WoR. But Nale was hunting Radiants for decades by this point. OB ch 40:
  7. You don't need to be broken to bond a spren, but being broken does make it easier (it grants access to the soul, but that's what the Nahel Bond itself does, which is the reason why you don't need to be broken). However there is an upper limit of how much bonds your spirit web can handle.
  8. They do call each other siblings. RoW ch 64: I wouldn't count on this.
  9. Interesting question, let's not involve Shards and Harmony in this because Allomancy is from Harmony and Harmony can see the future on his own so he would be able to probably know what's going on if he wanted to. Allomancy is given because of Connection to Preservation after all. But for example, if an electrum Misting was also an Aetherbound, would their Aether be able to see electrum Shadows? I think not, because it's not the Aether that burns electrum, it's not the Aether's spirit web and Fortune that's affected, it's the Misting who's peering into the Spiritual Realm. If the power to see the future was coming from that bonded being, then yes, they would be able to see it. One example of this is Glys and Renarin - the power to see the future comes from Glys, a spren bonded to Renarin and that's why they both see the same vision at the same time - they both peer into the Spiritual Realm together.
  10. Well, Shards hold basically an infinite amount of power, they are infinite, so there is no upper limit. Vessels however can't tap all of that, their mind isn't infinite (but it can be expanded) so they are limited. Investiture used to create Scadrial wasn't even the whole investiture available to Ruin and Preservation's minds, it was just a fraction of it - most of their investiture was thrown at each other, preventing them from acting at all. They still had way more power at their disposal. For a Shard, even the most violent events in the cosmos like supernova or killernova are usually nothing to them.
  11. It was way easier to Ascend for the 16 right after the Shattering and they didn't have to match intents of Shards perfectly, but they still couldn't have taken up any Shard they wanted to. Things were a bit different back then. Ati was chosen as the Vessel of Ruin not because he matched it well, but because they thought he would be good at controlling it and reducing its destructive potential. Even now, you don't have to perfectly match the intent to Ascend, but it's much harder without it. The Dor is Splintered, it's broken and divided and stuck in the Cognitive Realm instead of the Spiritual Realm. It's not one, whole Shard, it's many pieces divided in a place where they shouldn't be at all. Odium specifically did that to Devotion and Dominion to prevent anyone from Ascending to it. If it was as easy as using the Ire sphere, then Ire would have done so instead of searching for a new Shard to claim as their own. Because they lack the Connection to the Physical Realm and Vessels needs that to properly act in it and control the power of the Shard. Connections to Realms matter in this case. You mean why power was present in Vin and Ati's corpses when Sazed Ascended? Connection of course. They were their Vessels, there is a strong Connection to Shards left in those corpses and because the power seeks a mind to control it - it needs someone. The corpse dropped when the Vessels dies isn't the same body that the Vessel had before the Ascension, it's a body recreated out of raw investiture of the Shard and dropped as a leftover behind. It's made out of Shard's raw power. Connections to the power and the Spiritual Realm are fresh in it and that's probably why the power leaks through them. I think not because Kelsier was first to Ascend - he started Ascending as Leras was dying, before he gave up his last breath so to speak. So either Kelsier would already be Preservation, or he would be in the process of Ascending to it when the corpse dropped, which would most likely prevent anyone from Ascending. Shardic intent isn't just about what the name is about, it's much wider and it can be changed, can be focused on different things. Ruin isn't only about destruction, it's about change, death, entropy and all that stuff. Ati's interpretation was not against the Shard's intent, it was a part of it and that's why Ati was successful at channeling Ruin into the force of entropy rather than mindless destruction. The Vessel provides an interpretation for Shardic intent, which can differ between different Vessels.
  12. Small problem with this, Hoid's contract was rejected in the end. Odium couldn't have kept its terms. While Dalinar ultimately agreed to keep Odium trapped on Roshar, it wasn't because he trusted Hoid (he didn't), but he trusted Honor. Dalinar and Odium created new terms that weren't made by Hoid at all. Hoid couldn't have slipped anything into the final terms. RoW ch 112: But yeah, you're right - Hoid doesn't play fair with Rosharans and he will sacrifice them if necessary. He can't be trusted. Some in recent chapters did start to question why Rosharans have to deal with Odium and why it can't be others Shards problem.
  13. JOURNEY BEFORE DESTINATION! It's not the end goal that makes you honorable, it's your actions. Taravangian's actions weren't honorable and he knew it. He cried because of the sins he committed. While many say that Honor is about keeping your words, there are others who would argue that it's about doing the right thing, the moral thing - that's not Taravangian. Can Taravangian Ascend to Honor? I think yes in the right circumstance, but his interpretation of Honor would be vastly different from that of Tanavast, Dalinar or Kaladin. In his hands, Honor would be something else, not about morality or personal code, probably more about "end justifies the means," or something like this. But as Taravangian is right now, he would have a hard time Ascending to Honor.
  14. It's not about intention and Intent, it's about Connection and understanding of the nature of the Shard. Kelsier lacked proper Connection to Preservation, it was trivial compared to his Connection to Ruin and that's why he needed Ire's orb filled with Connection to Ascend in the first place. Secondly he also lacked proper understanding of what is the Shard of Preservation and what it represents - the very first thing he tried to do was to attack Ruin, which was against Preservation's Intent and its nature and that's why it resisted him so much throughout his time as a Vessel. Plus, he was a Cognitive Shadow, merely a memory without a valid Connection to the Physical Realm which made him impotent as the Vessel. Leras told Kelsier that Preservation was not intended for him because in his plan it was Vin who was meant to Ascend, not Kelsier. But yes, the power of Preservation had already chosen Vin as its new Vessel so that mattered as well. Yes, the Shard, the power itself, chooses its new Vessel. Preservation's power chose Vin, Odium's power chose Taravangian because of his passions. He was perfect for Odium in the power's mind. Kelsier stepped up and took power that didn't want him as its Vessel and that was problematic. Sazed on the other hand had both equally strong Connections to Ruin and Preservation and most importantly, he understood the nature of both Shards and the need for their existence. Something that Kelsier didn't have. In the day of Taravangian's Ascension he didn't just understand emotions, he was them. He was the Passion, he felt every single emotion and was overwhelmed by them, he understood them - that's why he was perfect for Odium. Plus over years he developed a valid Connection to Odium, which together with his understanding of the nature of the Shard, allowed him to fully Ascend and control Odium. SH ch 6-4: SH ch 6-8: RoW ch 114:
  15. I'm sorry, but you confused me here. I've read whole RoW in 2 days - who needs to sleep If I were you I would just finish RoW reading it at my normal pace and then start WaT - I can't stand not finishing reading a book before peaking a new one. If I have to delay reading WaT, so it be. I think it's half a year, so you have a loooot of time.
  16. Did Nale finish the job started by Helaran, who was a Shybreaker Acolyte? No, he didn't, he didn't even avenge him. Nale did nothing. In Helaran's case, he either was sent by Nale or acted on his own accord to prove himself to Nale, it's possible that Dreder also acted on his own to prove himself worthy of becoming a squire and Nale had no idea about his actions at all. We don't know that, but we know that Nale wasn't aware of every Radiant (he was unaware of Kaladin, but he knew of Tien) and he didn't always follow up their acolyte task after they failed. Also Mraize's letter suggested that Nale didn't know Shallan was developing a bond, he suspected Helaran was the one who was close bonding a spren and that's why Nale made him join Skybreakers - he thought the case was closed and there were no Radiants at house Davar anymore. He would be thinking that Dreder's death was just because he was caught with Shallan's mother by Lin, like everyone else. Lastly. if Shallan's mother was Chana, then Nale would certainly never raise his hand against her kids. OB ch 40:
  17. In recent chapters Szeth said that it was an Unmade who spoke to him, not the Wind.
  18. That's why visualization matters. Adolin and Blackthorn would have different interpretations of what a sword is and thus different visualizations. And rather than getting some awesome various abilities, the biggest difference would be in Nightblood's personality. Command is a foundation for type 4 personality, that means that Adolin's conception of a sword would give him a different personality than Blackthorn's one. Adolin's Nightblood probably would be more about testing your skills and honorable duels, while Blackthorn's would think more like a tool meant for killing (but still not as bloodthirsty as the real Nightblood). Some abilities might differ but I don't think the difference would be as noticeable as the difference in personalities. However Vasher and Shashara specifically wanted to recreate a Shardblade with Awakening, so their visualization would specifically reflect what a Shardblade is, even with the simple Command "be a sword." He would still feed on investiture, it seems like type 4 needs to do that just like Returned (Vivenna's blade still feeds on color, which is part of a soul) so you can't avoid that, but you can avoid creating a sword that feeds on everything it touches with this type of Command.
  19. As a Cognitive Shadow, Jezrien needed a Connection to Physical or Spiritual Realm to live. His Connection to the Spiritual Realm was probably mostly gone by now (because of the broken Oathpact or Honor's death), so imprisoning him in a gemstone severed his Connections to the Physical Realm and he could no longer remain as a Cognitive Shadow - thus he started to slowly fade into the Beyond, a place where normally all souls go after death. He was gone by now - mostly. El was able to destroy only a tiny fraction of what once was Jezrien as the rest faded into the Beyond. RoW ch 92/93 Epigraphs: Also, as a Cognitive Shadow he needed to feed on power as well. Heralds were probably Connected directly to Honor and feeded directly from his essence, just like Fused do. What little remained of his Connection to Honor was probably disrupted when he was imprisoned, or that alone was not enough to sustain him without anchoring Connection to the Physical Realm. That's another reason why he faded - he couldn't feed on investiture anymore. RoW ch 15:
  20. Guys, I think there is a way simpler Command that won't include any destruction or vague things like this - be a sword. From all the things that exist in Cosmere, being a sword is one single thing that a steel sword does understand and won't need to define abstract concepts. No destruction, no evil, just do the one thing you're good at and become sentient. Simple and effective. He would become a highly invested Awakened sentient entity and with the visualization that includes how Shardblades work, he would most definitely end up cutting the soul like Shardblades do. He would be way closer to Vivenna's blade than to what he ended up in reality. There aren't many things that a sword can do, so it's a good idea to stay among those things rather than going abstract. Doing nothing for example is just the weirdest - what does it even mean? Command is just one part of Awakening, more important is visualization, both must fit each other. How do you visualize a sword doing nothing? What does nothing even mean? This makes no sense. Being a sword is just way better. He's already doing it so he knows how to be a sword - just add extra favor with visualization and it's safely done.
  21. Start preparing for the SA 6 by rereading the entirety of SA one chapter every monday. In total that's 502 weeks (counting Edgedancer and Dawnshard), which is around 9.6 years - just in time for SA 6 premiere!
  22. Lerasium making people into Mistborn is a side effect, Lerasium burned by an Allomancer, who knows what he's doing, would do something else. The first time you burn Lerasium it's not you that's burning it, it's your body (4th WoB in my previous post). And Lerasium is not the only one like this, there are other metals like it, probably Edglium because of the nature of Endowment, who's about giving with no string attached. Preservation similarly is about giving to preserve, strengthen and protect. The nature of both Shards is strongly about giving, which would make their god metals burnable by everyone and give them a side effect. An Allomancer still would get something else and more from those metals. Extra explanations were already provided, you just have to connect the dots.
  23. Goodbye forever Jezrien, little did remain out of you and even that was taken and destroyed. Odium confirmed that the army in Shadesmare was sent by Rayse, but not towards Azir, but towards Lasting Integrity. Why there? Was he worried that Honorspren would join Dalinar and wanted to get rid of them before that? Was that to capture Kalak as well? Or to eliminate their navy before they stand up against his rule over Shadesmar? Anyway, it makes sense now. Taravangian as Odium can just do things. He can shut the door, fill gemstones with Voidlight directly. Dai-Gonarthis was finally mentioned. And she can create Elsegates. That’s impressive. And besides that, she’s also dangerous even for Odium to let out. How did she contribute to the destruction of Aima? So this probably means she’s not responsible for the emotionless state of Moash. And if Dai-Gonarathis is accessible to Odium, but prevented from acting, it means Chemoarish is the Unmade held in Shinovar. And somehow Roshar is mostly protected from Dai-Gonarthis, but not Natanan - is that because Stormseat was destroyed? Would this also mean that Aimia isn’t protected as well because Akinah was destroyed as well? And what payment will Odium have to pay? El’s interlude was very, very interesting. I like him. He’s cool and even I dare to say good? I actually want him to win a little bit. Now he’s above the Nine and he will be ruling over humans as he wanted. And still, he wanted to have no titles - I wonder why. And it seems that Taravangian is still pretending to be Rayse in front of other Fused. A weakness to be exploited. Taravangian's chapter confirmed that the reason for division of mind and heart is Cultivation’s boon and curse, not that Odium is always the divided one, which separates emotions from reason. It’s all because of Cultivation. Two Shards missing? Did anybody see a Shard somewhere?? One is probably Ambition because of her Splintering, but Valor? Is Valor the Shard who wants to stay hidden from WoBs? Is she the survival Shard? However, Sazed was able to contact her and she said she misses Hoid’s letters so Hoid can do it too. Why is she hidden only from certain Shards, but not all? Uuuuu, big revelation, Taravangian will try to be good. That’s huge. He will allow emotions to rule over, not intellect - at least from time to time. That’s very interesting. I wonder how this will change his current plans which are in motion - invading armies and the champion. I think interludes have been so far my favorite part of WaT. So many things were said there, so many implications and thanks to them we’ve been able to peek into Shard’s mind and other ancient beings. I’m super excited for the rest of the book.
  24. I believe that it's every Allomancer, not every Scadrian, or everyone in Cosmere, just all Allomancers, every Misting and Mistborn can burn pure god metals - only them. And this is how it will be in Mistborn movies. Long WoB, important part bolded near the end: Disagree. The form of physical investiture changes what effects it gives. Gaseous and liquid forms are a potent fuel for Allomancy, but the physical form - Lerasium - is very rigid and does just one specific thing - Connects you to Preservation by overwriting your spirit web. Mists don't do that, they are just a very potent fuel. The difference is, in Allomancy it's all about the molecular structure of a metal - this is what gives metals the effect they have when they are burned. It gives a shape to the power, it tells it what to do (which is very, very important). Investiture is another form of energy, but physical investiture is an actual new element on a periodic table. In a solid form it has a molecular structure that would specify the effect it gives. Liquid and gaseous forms have different structures and that's why they do something else. You could use investiture from other Shards to fuel your Metallic Arts, but unless it's solid, you will be able to replace metals with them, not get a new effect. Raw investiture without this molecular structure (non-solids) doesn't have anything that tells it what it does and thus it acts just like a fuel where something else tells it what to do (Dor, Mists Stormlight and all this stuff).
  25. Both red and black colors indicate corrupted investiture. But black is special as it's a sign that corrupted investiture tries to become fully alive and sentient, but it's being stopped by something.
