Oh no, I don't know if I'm ready for this. Without Frustration it's not the same I think everything changed because Radiants are essentially out of the equation now. No Bondsmiths, most Radiants are stuck in Urithiru, unable to get out, or use any light other than the Towerlight, which can't be transported out of the Tower. The only Radiants that can participate are Listener's Willshapers (which are a neutral faction), Retribution's Dustbringer, Skybreakers and potentially a few Enlightened Radiants working for Retribution (which I don't know any if any were said to be on his side. Sja-Anat switched sides and works for Ghostbloods now). Those will have access to Warlight directly from Retribution. However, I think Skybreaker's allegiance is uncertain. They've joined Odum only because of Nale and now he is thinking more clearly and he's rejoined the Oathpact, standing strongly in opposition to Retribution. I wouldn't be surprised that if this news ever reaches Skybreakers, they will abandon Retribution en masse, probably choosing neutrality or joining dissenters. But that's speculative so let's assume they remain loyal to Retribution. This means Taravangian can right now muster around 2000 Fused (out of 4000 in total, the rest is too insane to participate in war as stated somewhere in the book), a few hundred Radiants (mainly from two Orders), and thousands of Regals. That's not impressive when you remember that Sigzil and Adolin with their limited forces were able to hold against the overwhelming forces of Odium for so long. However, his aces are Unmades who now can leave Roshar and they can cause significant havoc - but Mishram is probably against Taravangian now, Sja-Anat might work for Scadrial, Thrill is making new friends at the bottom of the ocean - that's 3/9 out of the game, including his most powerful Unmades. Considering that there are at least 20,000 Metalborn in the Basin alone and they all have modern weaponry at their disposition - guns, machine guns, tnt, artillery, trains and dreadnoughts - regular foot soldiers from Roshar stand no chance against Scadrial, Rosharan Invested troops look extremely weak compared to what we had after the release of TLM. And that's not mentioning logistics as Rosharans quite literally lost all access to the Cognitive Realm and are unable to even leave their planet, unless Odium and Listeners grant them access to the only perpendicularity left on the planet (which was empty, it's not working yet, it's only just begun to fill and it will take years before it gets full). Fortunately for Taravangian, Dai-Gonarthis can create Elsegates in places of massive concentration of investiture (which don't exist anymore on Roshar until Retribution's perpendicularity becomes full), but the cost is apparently so high that even Rayse was not willing to pay it (destruction of Roshar???) So they can create a perpendicularity in a close proximity of an already existing perpendicularity on Scadrial (which doesn't really make any difference, it's almost the same place anyway). And then there is the time dilation. This means no supply trains can be reasonably established from Roshar, even providing a steady supply of Warlight from Roshar is impossible because of massive time differences between those two words. The logistics of this war are a real nightmare now. This all makes me think that Scadrians might have a much better chance at launching an invasion on Roshar than Rosharan would have at invading Scadrial. Still it doesn't mean Scadrians would have won invading Roshar, but I think in defence Scadrial would probably win after a brutal conflict against Retribution's forces as they are right now (that's scenario 1 I think). In scenario 2 I think it would be even worse for Roshar. 80 years of technological progress on Scadrial compared to 10 on Roshar. Even if Taravangian gives them tech comparable to Era 2, Scadrial will have 80s tech (which is M1 Abrams tank and F16 jets and many other things that are still used by US today!!). They would be blasted into oblivion by Scadrial without even using their Metalborn. I even believe Scadrial would be able to successfully conquer Roshar. If Urithiru, Azir, Narak and Taravangian were to unite, then I think they would win even without Bondsmiths. But that's unrealistic for now.

Infinite Stormlight? Ishar Bondsmith boosting all Surges of every other Herald and they just annihilate all lions in massive waves. Lions won't even be able to see Heralds at all. There are only so many lions that can engage 10 people standing in a circle, numbers don't matter with infinite Stormlight.

Wind and Truth: Wells (Dawnshard Spoilers, can I do that?)
alder24 replied to M0rdak's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hello, welcome to the Shard. The well below Narak is Odium's/Retribution's well. Honor's perpendicularity is unstable and it moves randomly across Roshar - Jasnah in WoR epilogue used it to go back to the Physical Realm. Cultivation's perpendicularity was in the Horneater's peaks. Now with Retribution being formed and with Cultivation out of the system, it's very likely that only one perpendicularity - the one under Narak - will remain on Roshar. We know that the reason for Larkins returning to Aimia is because only there exist a very special and potent type of Mandra, which they need to bond to fly. Dawnshards aren't like Shardpools - they don't leak. They are a weapon, a Command of vast power that existed way before Shards. Perpendicularities are a concentration point for investiture that leaks from the Spiritual Realm due to a Shardic presence in the world. WaT ch 90: Dawnshard ch 19: Arcanum Unbounded the Dromidad System essay (not really a spoiler, just information about perpendicularities): -
I agree, it's a vision where investiture became Nohadon. At this point I doubt Nohadon is alive and is someone special (though it's still possible, those visions were weird). It was all a construct made out of Connections and investiture - just like Tien was in Kaladin's vision. I think a better question would be if that was Dalinar who accidentally made those visions in the time of need, or did someone else sent him them, just like he sent a vision to Kaladin.

The intent of Splinters doesn't have to be a mirror reflection of the Shardic intent - spren can and do have their own Intents. Spren are also autonomous - they are people, with their own mind and their own interpretation, they are separate from a Shard. They can change and act dishonorable (Sekier), they can be even evil as nothing prevents them from being evil. Just because they are made mostly out of Honor, doesn't mean they have to have the same intent as Honor. Spren are also investiture that came alive, which makes them susceptible to perception of other people. This discussion between Highspren and Honorspren is kind of pointless because there is no ultimate truth there. It's more philosophical in nature. Those two groups of spren disagree on the interpretation of what Honor is and now we know that even Tanavest and the power disagree on this as well. Not really. OB ch 56: EDIT: Even the Stormfather shares his view. OB ch 4: Just because he didn't mean it doesn't absolve him from blame. He caused all of this because he did not listen to Kor when she told him not to engage with Rayse. His action led to a genocide of every Singer on Roshar, which also hurt every spren on Roshar and everything that belong to Roshar. Her position was very clear and reasonable. Tanavest himself agreed with her and Honor's power - he knew he did something terrible. WaT ch 124: Add to this all the disagreements they had, the abandoning of the Tower, lobotomizing the native species of Singers and the vision all of they got directly from Honor, which told them they will destroy Roshar (not might). All of them felt the tragedy of Mishram imprisonment, the Rhythms of Roshar stopped for a few painful moments, they all knew they'd made a terrible mistake. WaT ch 87: Here WaT ch 87: In my opinion it's clear why Recreance happened and it's not contradicting knowledge we had from previous books.

I don't think so. Both Rayse and Taravangian didn't recognize him as Frost and said he died. They knew Frost, they would have recognized him if that was him and we know Frost didn't die. Moreover, Frost is a member of the 17th Shard and believes in the policy of non-intervention. Talking to Dalinar is intervening. WaT ch 122: OB ch 118:

Space? In a wooden ship? Not possible. I think she's going towards the Origin, or through Odium's perpendicularity out of Roshar forever (as Sleepless epigraphs suggest they all gather there for some reason).

It's not an error. Ishar was able to hide Herald's minds in the Spiritual Realm, in a vision similar to those experienced by Dalinar and Navani in this book. In the Spiritual Realm times flow very differently so that's not a surprise that from Herald's perspective it would feel like months, when in reality it will be years on Roshar (and that's separate from the whole time dilation that's happening around Roshar now). Braize is technically still a part of the Rosharan system, it's still close to Roshar to experience the same time dilation as Roshar does (and Ashyn too). A Shard settling on a planet is the same as a Shard settling in the whole star system.

Yes, I think it's Reason. At first there were two Shards Taravangian wasn't able to spot - one unknown and Valor. We know that Hoid, Harmony and Endowment can communicate with Valor, however Tanavast also was unable to locate Valor 7000 years ago. There is something sneaky going on with both of those Shards, but given the amount of WoBs we have about the Wisdom-like Shard and the survival Shard, I think it's Valor. There was another Shard who Brandon said never settled on any planet, maybe that's Valor. WaT ch 115: Can't find the first WoB about the Shard not on any planet.

The Oathpact is a cage forged out of the souls of Heralds. This time, instead of sealing away Fused and Voidspren on Braize, they used their existing Connections to Odium and Honor and used their souls to form a cage around all spren of Roshar. Their souls were still sent to Braize (as that's a part of the Oathpact and something in Braize's core attracts souls to the planet) but I believe if they return, that would not cause the Oathpact to stop protecting spren. Previously, they were tortured and they allowed Fused to return on Roshar, which was bending the Oathpact, this time their minds are protected from the torture and they won't allow to bend the Oathpact, even if they return that will not give Retribution an access to spren's power. I don't think Fused and Voidspren are still affected by the binding as they were previously, it looks like Voidspren remain on Roshar and that means the Oathpact no longer seals them away on Braize. WaT ch 144:
-
No, I think their heart would just pop. Heart attacks are a major issue for "elderly" Koloss. Making someone old, who most likely already has a weakened heart on top of many other age related diseases (which doesn't go away), into a Koloss would most definitely end up with their fast death. You would kill them faster than if you were to just leave them alone. Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania:

This. Steel and Iron are just forces and their strength depends on masses of both the object and yours, distance and your Allomantic strength.

Except for the fact that the Wind was fully developed, fully sapient and was speaking to Dalinar in visions, like the one of the migration. She was a spren way before the first Bondsmiths appeared. WaT ch 43:

This baffles me too. I think it must be an error.

For me Szeth is and will be Shet, simply because in Polish "sz" is pronounced like "sh." Zeth just sounds wrong to me... I also often say Alethekar instead of Alethkar. And because of that I often have to google its name when I try to write it because I always spell it wrong. Also I can't stop reading Jah Keved as Jah Kevad. For a long time I struggled with Elhokar as well. I don't remember how I pronounced it, but it was many kinds of wrong (something like Elokohar). Now I'm nailing it each time. Rock is Rock to me, no matter how many times he says his own name. I'm not even trying to read his name anymore. Sometimes I also read duralumin as duraluminum. This name exists, it's the same thing, but it's wrong... And don't get me started on all those French names in Mistborn... On some days I try and get it right or close to, on other days I'm just reading them as they are written. I've probably pronounced Sazed in 10 different ways by now. I often read Elend as Eland (it helps remembering that it's Elendel, not Elandel) and Straff as Staff - close enough. I don't know why I keep replacing e into a. On the other hand, I've always pronounced Jasnah correctly, simply because that's how you say it in Polish (ignoring the h). What's funny is that "jasna" in Polish means bright and whenever someone calls her brightness Jasnah, in Polish it means just brightness bright.

Those aren't self-aware so I doubt it. But the Band of Mourning are somewhat self-aware, they and all other Malwish medallions are comparable to Honorblades. This means that Nightblood can learn from them Feruchemy and Allomancy.

Countries around Purelake were conquered by Iri in OB, so this region (now flooded) is under Retribution's control. Aimia is destroyed and abandoned, nobody lives there and it's not worth owning. OB ch 122: WaT ch 147: Shinovar is also controlled by Retribution. WaT ch 145: The Azish Empire is dead, only Azir itself, Urithiru, the Shattered Plains and Reshi Isles are outside of Retribution's rule. Shadesmar is almost fully controlled by Retribution, probably with the only exception being Honorspren's possessions. WaT ch 147: New Natanan signed the deal with Taravangian, even Tukar did. WaT ch 114:

Dalinar stretched into the Beyond and he was claimed by the God Beyond. Brandon wrote it in the most straightforward way that makes this issue very clear. He's gone gone. WaT ch 145:

I think it might work.

I still disagree with this interpretation, the Old Magic entities are still spren and the Sibling specifically said Bondsmith were not bonded with spren back then so that excludes the Wind and others. Fundamental forces of creation are forces left by gods as they arise from them directly. We saw in Honor's flashback that he gave powers to Nale on Ashyn and that's something that those ancient Bondsmith were doing, but instead of getting powers directly from Honor's hands, those Surges were beginning to manifest naturally on Roshar and people were able to access them without any bond. Nale's spren probably went back to report this to Ishar, as they all worked together on this plan. The Wind doesn't have a human form so it would be unlikely to appear in it there. We know that Nale's spren accompanied him on Braize previously so it makes sense it's him again. WaT ch 95: And Nale's spren appeared later, after the quote you gave (which was ch 110), and talked to Aux when Szeth broke his bond with him. So he was still with Nale. WaT ch 135:
-
No, everything seems to work like before. You need to bond a spren, who's a living manifestation of Surges, to have access to Surgebinding. The Knights Radiants were established and bound by Ishar, not Honor, so this is not affected by Dalinar renunciation of all Honor's Oaths. It was said by the end that only Radiants in the Tower can use Surges because only they can access light (Towerlight). Radiants all across Roshar can't do it because Stormlight is gone (but they are still bonded to their spren, they have powers just can't fuel them).

How Aligned was Ati with Ruin in Mistborn?
alder24 replied to Silverblade5's topic in Cosmere Discussion
At the end it looks like Ati was fully consumed by the intent of the Shard, which would most likely mean full alignment. He was chosen at first because the 16 thought he would be good at controlling Ruin, he did manage to focus Ruin's intent towards entropy, but after 10,000 years his will was certainly overcome by the power - there was no kindness in Ruin that Ati once had.
