Wind and Truth Chapters 21 and 22 now available!

I think the Sibling said enough to say that the Wind/Stone/Night didn't become the Stormfather/Sibling/Nightwatcher, but they were made out of the essence of those ancient spren, without killing them or changing them. They still exist. The Night was even said to leave and then Cultivation created the Nightwatcher out of her essence. I think it's more or less the same process that True Spren use to create new Spren - the parents don't become their children, they don't disappear. WaT ch 21: Huh, you do have a point. Chemoarish wasn't considered as one of the mindless spren and moreover she wasn't active since Aharietiam. On the other hand Hessi wasn't sure if Dai-Gonarthis was an Unmade at all, but she speculated he was involved in the Scouring of Aimia (which was some time after Recreance). There is little to no information about either of them so that could be caused by them being hidden in Shinovar. However, unlike Dai-Gonarthis about whom there is nothing but speculations in Mythica, Chemoarish was noted to have a wide range of different stories, so the lack of information comes from inability to tell truths from lies, rather than from having truly no sources on her, like it’s the case with Dai-Gonarthis. I think Dai-Gonarthis still fits better because of this, but Chemoarish is a more valid candidate now. -

I know the Alethi law is convoluted and twisted, but this is a step too far. Those countries don't exist anymore, Alethkar isn't ancient Alethela. That shouldn't work, but this did happen, it would make me think that Brandon started to write plot twists just to subvert our expectations, not because there was some foreshadowing and logic behind it - Brandon isn't like that, but I already feel that this whole mess with the Alethi law loophole was just badly executed. -

The Stormfather was changed when he merged with Tanavast's Cognitive Shadow and that's why he doesn't remember well what happened before Honor's death - but he does remember something. I think he remembers Ashyn's migration, which happened a whole 1000 years before he was created in his first form, because that's Tanavast's memory, not his. And that's probably why there is discrepancy between the Sibling's words and the Stormfather. OB ch 113: -

Wrath: strong vengeful anger or indignation retributory punishment for an offense or a crime : divine chastisement I like Wrath more than Vengeance, it's stronger, but Vengeance fits well too. -
Were those Bondsmiths bonded with the Wind/Night/Stones, or were they bonded with the fundamental forces of creation directly? Wind, Stones and Night are all spren, but the Sibling said ancient Bondsmiths didn't bond spren, but the forces themselves. Spren are manifestations of fundamental forces, so they act like a middleman between a Surgebinder and the forces. Those Bondsmiths 6,000 years ago might have been bonded directly to fundamental forces, which I think is very similar to what Metallic Arts are. However, the Sibling said "forces left by god," and that's how Hoid described the Wind in ch 3, so in the end I don't know if by forces the Sibling meant ancient Old Magic spren or fundamental forces of creation directly. Anyway I agree, I think Surgebinding on Ashyn worked similarly. WaT ch 21: WaT ch 3:

I highly doubt it, Windrunners had to spot troops on board of those ships. A Lightweaving this big would require a significant force of Regals (if there are Regals that can create illusions) and Fused (if Fused can create illusions not attached to their bodies). -

Agreed. Not at all, that would be a bad plan - Narak has an Oathgate, Herdaz doesn't. If you retake Herdaz by giving up Narak, it will be essentially isolated and surrounded by foes in every direction - yes, there will be a peace and all, but sooner or later Herdaz would get back on Odium's side just because they would had no other choice (trade, economics, limited movement of people etc). Agreed again. Can't be her. Firstly he never visited Komashi after the Shroud was formed, secondly the Shroud was made out of people, not Shard's remains. We don't know if Virtuosity left any remains like this - Spirits at best, but they weren't everywhere. Komashi doesn't fit. This is actually possible. But I don't agree on the name War, just because combined light is called Warlight. The name of the light isn't the name of its Shard. Stormlight comes from Honor not Storm, Voidlight comes from Odium not Void and combined Honor and Cultivation certainly won't be named Tower. Justice or Wrath are way better names. -
I think he didn't expect people to search for a Stormfaker at all, so he changed it to make sure people will focus on the Stormfather lying part. He did, he said he was searching for a champion, not a Herald: Intent was behind those words, it wasn't the words that Gavilar got always wrong, he lacked the proper intent and that one time he was close. It would make sense that Ishar doesn't want the other Heralds to know about this before he has his replacement Herald ready. But if this is the real Stormfather, who are they, and why musn't they know? Yes and this is what the difference between the Stormfaker and the Stormfather was all about. The Stormfather has some hidden motifs, plans of his own, he lies and isn't the person we thought he was. Earlier I did think he was talking about other Heralds here, that they can't know another Desolation is coming, now I think he is absolutely terrified by the idea of somebody Ascending to Honor and a new Desolation drastically increased the probability of this. And when Honor gets a new Vessel, they will learn the Stormfather and Tanavast's shame - whatever it is. The Stormfather desperately tries to hide the truth of his and Honor's past "crimes" from getting exposed. WaT ch 22: Yes, the Sibling knew him when she was young, but now the Stormfather is different. That's definitely because Tanavast's Cognitive Shadow merged with the Stormfather. The Stormfather even said in OB ch 113 that this event changed him. And maybe that's why the Stormfather remembers the migration from Ashyn even though he wasn't created back then? He has Tanavast's memories of this, not his own. That's a good question. I thought that he did it just because he was caught in the act, but this works for the second example, not the Ishar situation. Maybe there is something Dalinar can do and it's related to how Dalinar can speak in small caps, become Unity, grow to be equal to the Stormfather and even accept Kaladin's Ideal? Maybe the Stormfather is scared of confronting Dalinar because it might push him towards finding Honor's core someone?
-
Yes, I think along the same lines. Binding Odium to Roshar seems like it could have been the shame Stormfather referred to, but I expect something even greater. Something so grand that it would make people think if they chose the right side. What if the whole idea of the Desolation cycles was Honor's plan all alone? He didn't want to just trap Odium, he wanted to keep him busy to prevent him from even planning his escape. Give him a false hope that if he pushes humanity for long enough, he will win and get free. Maybe even Honor set up his death and hid away the core of his Shard specifically to give Odium another false hope? Honor sacrificed humanity and Roshar in order to prevent Odium from killing other Shards. This also could explain why Sigzil thought in TSM that the idea of an honorable soldier is the most evil thing in existence, a trick to make people fight for nothing. The switch of gods sounds like a good candidate too. Why did Honor and Cultivation turn away from Singers and support humans instead? It may play a role in keeping Odium busy on Roshar. TSM ch 40:

There is no other place we know of with dead Shard's remains lying around all over the world, unknown to everybody. I didn’t want to say that it will happen, just that we all know somebody will Ascend to Honor. Dalinar, Kaladin, or Taravangian - it doesn't matter who, we know it will happen in some way, at some point. Therefore the magical ending of HoA will never happen again, when somebody becoming a god was unthinkable. HoA changed the way I was looking at Brandon's books. Dalinar already spoke in small caps in RoW ch 108/112: And earlier in ch 71: -

Then you have a bunch of aluminum oxide with no use But yeah, you can never have too much aluminum - you can always sell it off-world for a hefty price. Edit: I feel like Kmakl was raising the same concerns you did in ch 21. There is something off with the decision to attack the Shattered Plains with Fused only, leaving small numbers of Fused for other fronts. -
I'm certain this is a reference to Szeth's flashbacks, which were read by Brandon before. You can find them here if you're interested - flashback 1&2, flashback 3. Spoilers:

Nohadon abdicated? Like just for the duration of his journey to Urithiru or forever? All of what Shallan did felt rushed, very rushed. No preparation, just attack them directly the very next day and everything seemed to be going splendidly. I predict it will end badly. One does not simply walk into a Ghostblood meeting. A Shardpen! So unnecessary, dangerous and ostentatious. I love it! Ka just said out loud what I had in mind. Azish Oathgate was corrupted, has anybody checked on any other gate since then? It seems like a massive oversight. And that’s why I’m uncertain about the idea of allocating Windrunners from the Thaylen front to other locations in the meantime - if the Thaylen or Narak gates get corrupted too, Thaylen is lost. That’s cute, the Sibling made a room for Nightwacher Dalinar probably had a flashback when entering this room. Does the Stormfather have his own room too? The Stormfather came from the Wind, the Nightwacher came from the Night - the ancient spren of the Night confirmed. And the Stones were also confirmed as the ancient spren. Nice lore dumb. And we even have some dates! Interestingly the Wind left, the Stones spoke to Venli and and Wind is speaking to Kaladin, so those ancient spren are still all around Roshar somewhere. Were the god spren made out of those spren in a similar way new True Spren are made? A mission to reclaim Herdaz, another force stretching Windrunners even thinner than before. I agree with Jasnah on this one. A bridge too far. Kaladin’s first therapy session turned out just as I expected it. He should have started with “sorry to hear that you’re crazy” - it wouldn’t have changed anything. I was waiting for so long to see Kaladin’s full reaction to Shinovar, I wasn’t disappointed. An Unmade was in Shinovar this entire time? And they knew it? That changes a lot. And it was the voice Szeth heard as a kid? Ohhh, that's a very good plot twist. This means it can be only Dai-Gonarthis or Chemoarish, but because the latter is mindless, I think it has to be Dai-Gonarthis. This isn’t something I was expecting, I thought he was responsible for Moash’s emotionless state. “You’re ruining everything!” - the Stormfather said. He admitted he had his own plan and that he lied! But how did the Stormfather break Heralds? It’s kind of interesting to see how people on Roshar react to the idea of Dalinar becoming a god, while we on the forum casually throw around names of potential new Vessels every two days. It brought me back a little to the time when I first read the Mistborn series, the time when Vin and Sazed Ascensions were unexpected, shocking and groundbreaking events to read about. Dalinar Ascending is something we all have been kind of expecting to happen for years now, which isn’t bad at all, but it’s a totally different experience. Mists on Scadrial most likely. There aren't a lot of places where a Shard died. Roshar, Sel, Ambition in an unknown location, Scadrial and Komashi but Hoid hasn't visited Komashi yet. It has to be Scadrial. But it's weird that Hoid missed that they were Preservation's power. -
The quote @Treamayne described in his first post and another one expanding on his previous quote. Is this what you had in mind?
-
As Treamayne said, we don't know. What we know is that nicrosil stores Allomancy, Feruchemy, Surgebidning, Divine Breath (but regular Breaths were RAFO'd) etc - powers and innate investiture are confirmed, but raw kinetic investiture is not. Because of that I personally believe that you can't store raw investiture, you can't store Stormlight, you can't compound it. You can store your Allomantic strength just like you can store your speed in a steelmind and tap it later to become stronger. But that's what I believe would happen, we don't know if normal nicrosil works like a coppermind (Malwish Medallion) or like any other metalmind (like a steelmind).

We don't know, but there isn't much that would suggest they had a Shardplate. Kalak in Prelude said nothing about it and Jezrien's clothes were covered in blood so they most likely didn't have any Shardplate. Only Nale had a Shardplate and that's because he is a 5th Ideal Skybreakers (and he wasn't wearing it even during a battle).
-
It says "steals all abilities," not powers and those are attributes from Feruchemy - speed, strength etc. Powers are Invested Arts like Allomancy or Surgebinding. It's confusing as at no point in books abilities were defined, but we have this WoB which confirmed it:

Can Taravangian Use Hoid’s Dawnshard for Cosmere Conquest?
alder24 replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The problem with this is that Sigzil was 38 when he stopped aging - when he became the Dawnshard. He even had gray hair before that. Right now he doesn't look or sound that old at all, he has thick black hair with no sign of gray in them, however nowhere in books was his age specified. Personally I don't think he's older than 30 years. TSM ch 11: Because of that I'm quite certain he won't become Dawnshard in WaT. And if he won't be a Dawnshard by the end of WaT, I highly doubt Dawnshard will play any role in this book. And another problem with this is that If Hoid's Dawnshard is on Roshar, wouldn't it mean there are 3 Dawnshards in total on Roshar? Honor said "without the Dawnshards" indicating there are more than 1 Dawnshards on Roshar. We know of Change Dawnshard, there were some speculation that the Danwshard described in WoK ch 36 epigraphs, the one "known to bind any creation voidish or mortal" is a separate Dawnshard hidden somewhere on Roshar, likely with the name Bind and now you proposing that Hoid hid on Roshar a third Dawnshard. That's way too many Dawnshards on one planet if you ask me. WoK ch 75: WoK ch 36 epigraphs: If there are three Dawnshards on Roshar, why go for Hoid's Dawnshard, the one that should be the most secretive as hidden specifically by Hoid and probably never used on Roshar before? -
Could there be a deeper strategy behind the 3 attacks?
alder24 replied to josmarrob's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This is actually a brilliant strategy. I’m very impressed. And the worst part is even if Fused win a battle they can just abandon their bodies and join the next battle in the Everstorm. They can do the same if they see they can't win a battle in one location for some reason. They don't even need to die. -
The Night of Sorrows is about to happened in the end of book 5
alder24 replied to The_karni's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's not the same sun, it looks like each subastral has its own sun. When Kelsier left Scadrial to find Ire, he left the sun behind. SH ch 5-1: As for the sun in BoM, while Wax initially stepped into the Cognitive Realm with Mists all around, Harmony created a vision for him and let him see the world and its sun in the Physical Realm. That's why the sun was behind the horizon, because at that point they were walking through the vision of the Physical Realm - through the parts of Scadrial where there was night. Wax didn't see the sun in the Cognitive Realm, he saw the sun of the Scadrian System in the Physical Realm. How do I know this? Because Wax saw the entire planet and it's impossible to see a planet in Shadesmar, this can only be done in the Physical Realm (but it was just a vision, similar to those in SA). BoM ch 28: Personally, I do believe that the Night of Sorrows is ahead of us, but I believe that it would be endless Weeping, which will happen after the Stormfather will be killed/deadeyed. With no Stormfather, there would be no Highstorms, no Stormlight, only endless rain and Weeping - the Night of Sorrows.- 3 replies

It has been mostly confirmed that Lightweavers resonance is their mnemonic abilities. WoR ch 49:

No, a Lerasium spike steals attributes only (strength, senses, intelligence etc), not powers. You can steal a bond with a duralumin spike, because that's Connection, but the spren is sapient, they can and will decide to break the stolen bond. It's possible to get Surgebinding powers with Hemalurgy, you need to not only steal the Connection from the Radiant, but also the powers directly from the spren (as it's the spren that has Surgebinding powers encoded in their Spirit Web). Could a Coinshot push off of naturally occurring metals in the ground?
alder24 replied to kpShadowFox's topic in Mistborn
No, unless the ore vein is fully exposed. A simple wall is enough to weaken the strength of Allomancy, pushing on something buried several meters under the ground isn't possible. You won't be able to even sense it.
