  1. I see no error here. This is the one example where you can't ignore air drag as that's the only force acting on Kaladin at that moment and it's enough to eventually stop him. It's not that weak to have no effect on Kaladin, it depends on the speed squared - the faster you move, the stronger drag is.
  2. They can share the power and responsibilities, have two kings at the same time - not that uncommon in the past. We don't know how it worked in the past, we know there were 10 thrones in Urithiru, one for every ruler of the Silver Kingdoms. It's unlikely however they had any say in the matters of the Tower and the Radiants themselves. We don't know if Radiants even had a ruler and not some kind of council or some form of democracy. Dalinar assumes he will die in the contest, not before or after, but during it. In any case there will be no war, there will be no conflict, the borders will solidify and there would be no reason for Jasnah to surrender to Odium, who isn't their enemy anymore. Someone however has to rule over the Tower and command the Radiants - they will still exist, Urithiru will still be inhabited. Yup, I agree it's very likely that Urithiru government system will shift towards democracy - especially considering that Jashan is planning to go in that direction with Alethkar already.
  3. I highly doubt it. The plan wasn't even fully drafted when the Tower was already failing and Melishi wasn't involved in its creation - it was scholar Radiants. Also it was suggested by one record that the Sibling withdrew unintentionally, something affected them before all of this was happening. This might have contributed to the disagreement between the Sibling and Radiants, but this can't be the sole reason. Kaladin swore two conflicting Oaths which was the root of his problem, Melishi wasn't even involved in the planning so I doubt he would have any reason to swear something like that. Syl was losing her mind because she needs Kaladin to think in the Physical Realm - the god spren like Stormfather or the Sibling don't need that. They are fully capable of thinking and existing in the Physical Realm on their own (yes, the bond changes them and expands their mind, but they all think clearly without it). The Sibling shouldn't have been affected by unkept Oaths like Syl was. Breaking the bond before Mishram was captured shouldn't cause the Sibling to lose themselves like this, they would just lose the bond and be fine with all systems online. Breaking the bond during the imprisonment would either result in Melishi's inability to complete the process, or the Sibling would turn deadeye once the process was finished (assuming Bondsmith powers were needed to imprison Mishram, which I seriously doubt based on two other examples of Unmades being captured - you just need someone who knows that Unnamed very well and who can open themselves for them). No, it could have. No gem was recorded after Mishram's imprisonment. OB ch 81 epigraphs: They may not know what actually happened, but spren know when somebody is bonded - the Sibling was able to tell that Rlain was already taken. They were other spren who survived the Recreance (Blended for example), they would be the ones who knew there was no Bondsmith during Recreance and the Sibling broke their bond with Melishi.
  4. I'm 100% sure this wasn't it. The reduction of power would manifest in the same way as Syl leaving Kaladin for longer - his powers would fade but the bond would remain, when reunited he would regain his powers (we've seen this a little in WoR). But this shouldn't break the bond or affect the Sibling because they can create their own light - Towerlight - and with it power all functions and fabrials of the Tower, with or without the bond. I can't believe that there wasn't a longer period of time with unbonded Sibling in the past - if loss of the bond caused Urithiru to fail, this would have happened periodically in the past, yet Radiants had no clue what was happening with the Tower before the Recreance. Moreover, the hunt for BAM was not happening at the time of recording the gem archive and abandoning Urithiru - it was still being planned and they even said they would need Melishi for this in the future. The death of Honor and the wound caused by capturing BAM caused the Sibling to lose its ability to hear their own Tone and create the Towerlight, but something else was happening to the Sibling which made some protections and fabrials to fail. It was also said that the Sibling was the one who broke their bond - if the bond was broken after Mishram was captured, the Sibling would have become a Deadeye.
  5. The WoB: They can't take Stormlight off-world for all we know. And the Dor indeed doesn't make people glow - Armal and other Metalborn in the Set's village drank the entire jar of Dor and none of them were said to be glowing. Even if they somehow had Stormlight, they can hold so little of it in their bodies that they wouldn't be visibly glowing - Kaladin did this all the time during WoR to hide his abilities.
  6. No, they can't change their shape, they don't manifest a spren, they are stuck in this form.
  7. Yes, Rayse needed to do this. He feared he might lose, he feared Dalinar learned something from Ishar, he was afraid of him. He needed to end this before Dalinar learned more, he needed to win decisively or end the war for good. And the more he waits, the more Radiants will be made. Waiting doesn't serve him, in the end there will be enough Radiants to launch a successful counter offensive and retake all three places if they were to fall. The status quo of the last 7000 years would be upheld, Desolations would be raging on forever, endless war, endless casualties, endless prison - Rayse needed to break the cycle. Even his Shard, the power he held, was in conflict with him over this. RoW ch 112: Without the deadline, Dalinar would be able to relax, plan a layered defense and even withdraw from some of those attacked positions, reorganize and counterattack, retaking them. Capturing one city, deeply surrounded by the enemy territory is not a good strategy if you need to defend it in the long run. Sure, Oathgates are a huge help, but even they wouldn't be enough. Dalinar would have enough manpower to mobilize, enough territory to retreat towards and enough time to fight for those cities.
  8. Yeah, that's a really tough nut for Dalinar to crack. Odium created an excellent dilemma for the coalition and I don't see any good option for them to choose. I think it will be really hard for them to successfully defend on all three fronts, especially considering that one invasion force is made entirely out of 1000 Fused and 1 Thunderclast. Dalinar's main army is still in Emul, they might be able to get back on time to aid the defense of Azir, but this might be too tight. It's way more problematic to defend other fronts. No army on the Shattered Plain can defend against that many Fused and Dalinar don't even have that many Radiants to match their numbers and there are even more Fused in the other two armies. Dalinar has to spread his Radiants across 3 different fronts, which would put them in huge disadvantage. It’s possible Dalinar might be forced to abandon one position, or at the very least he might run out of man to send. I think the easiest way to defend the Shattered Plains is to use the Listeners' tactic - evacuate to the Narak, fortify it, break bridges and fight for every plateau. Even 1000 Fused will struggle to get past such a defense in a few days, maybe it will be enough to prevent them from reaching the Oathgate if there are enough troops there. But this means abandoning the 10 camps around the plains - there is still a lot of free space in the Tower, but that’s a huge existential threat to the Alethi nation. The Azish gate will be less problematic, thankfully the gate's platform was turned into a maze which would be much easier to defend. It will be a massive choke point. They just need to hold for long enough for the main coalition force to arrive from the won offensive in Emul. However we don't know how many troops are already present in the city, or in Urithiru. I don't think there are enough of them to mount a strong defense. It will be a desperate struggle for sure, but a relief army is already marching towards Azimir. Thaylen City will probably be the hardest to defend. Their navy was defeated, but they need it again. They need to send a force of Windrunners escorting another navy to meet their enemy at the sea, far away from the island as that’s the only way to stop the siege from starting and thus relieve all those troops from this position and send them to the other two. If that's impossible, then the city will be under siege - again. This time it might be much harder to defend against it, considering that Dalinar's forces are spread out thin. But on the other hand Dalinar already defended the city with the total of 7 Radiants plus Adolin alone, so maybe it won't be that hard? Ishar is a wild card, but I don't think he can do anything about any army - his army is too far away and he himself is unlikely to join Dalinar. Listeners can and it's possible they might join to fight for their freedom, because if Alethi fall on the Shattered Plains, I highly doubt Odium will leave them alone. Who knows, maybe Leshwi will manage to convince more Fused to join them? But there is another wild cart you haven't mentioned - Honorspren naval power. Right now it's sadly anchored and collecting dust, but Notum wants to reactivate the fleet and fight for Shadesmar. It may be possible, if Odium forces will be slowed down while passing through the Oathgate, for Notum to arrive just on time to destroy the part of Odium's army that wasn't able to pass through, effectively winning this battle. Navani needs to start working on creating anti-Odium tone metal plates and anti-Voidlight - good thing she doesn’t need to sleep now. They have a few Raysium daggers, at least one, so they can't rely on them too much, but RoW showed us that just playing anti-Odium tone can paralyze Fused. That's a weapon to be used. But Odium can do the same and he has much more Raysium to spare and give to his troops. Radiants and Spren will die. However it's hard to say if any of this army even has a capability of creating anti-Stormlight. The Shadesmar army was sent before this discovery was even made so they might not have the equipment needed for this and would have to rely on air deliveries. The Fused and naval army were sent already so it's also hard to say if they have anti-Stormlight or means to create it. I doubt the Fused army has the equipment with them (because they rely on speed, they probably won't be resting too much to arrive on time), they probably have a limited amount of anti-Stormlight. So this all might mean that while all armies might have Raysium, they might also have a very limited amount of anti-light, or none at all. We shall see. This will be hard. And even worse, Dalinar CAN'T be at all three places at once and Navani can't provide Towerlight for Radiants. This means all Radiants will be running out of fuel and they will struggle. Until now, they could always count on Dalinar and his perpendicularity, but now they are on their own. It's not even sure if Dalinar even goes to one of those places personally as he has to prepare himself for the Contest of Champions and protect himself from being targeted - just in case. Radiants might be running on fumes, while Fused and Regals will be full of Voidlight.
  9. I think he will do this. Mraize is a hunter, he enjoys the hunt, he won't wait for Shallan to make her move, he will strike first.
  10. Adolin won't ever agree to fight and kill his father, he still loves him. But that's not the point of choosing Adolin as the champion of Odium. The point is to make Dalinar unwilling to fight and break the terms, which would free Odium. For this Adolin is an ideal choice (Gavinor too tbf) and Taravangian can manipulate him into becoming his champion, promising him he won't have to fight or kill his father. This does make sense, but it would require a lot of preparation and a lot of highly unlikely set of events for Adolin to turn against his father.
  11. Just no. Even he admits his mind isn't to be trusted anymore. He's insane, just as others, his insanity is manifested by the lack of emotions and extreme zeal in executing the law to the very letter. He's not doing well at all. Nahle Bond can't help Heralds regain their sanity. Edgedancer ch 19: OB ch 106: This happened in Edgedancer, the clarity of his mind returned briefly after Lift swore the 3rd Idea and he was confronted with his failure. Edgedancer ch 19:

    Metals in body?

They can split a metal object to many, many lines - they can see like an Inquisitor and have lines pointing to every axi at the highest end of this ability (the very highest). They can push on every line. Huh, thanks for explaining this, I never really understood this scene before. I always thought he found some coins below the wall because of his increased A-steel from a spike, which were invisible to Vin, but I always knew I was missing something here. Now it makes a lot of sense.
  13. My bet is Connection. BAM is able to manipulate Connection. Stormlight is tied to Roshar and Honor with Connection - removing that using BAM will allow them to carry it out of the system. Something they want to do very much. Is that the only reason? I don't know, but it's the simplest. Kalak can't do that, he can't even free himself from Roshar. Kelsier wants Kalak not just to find out where Mishram is, he wants him also to learn more about how to avoid becoming like Kalak. RoW ch 13: TLM spoilers:
  14. Oh yes, you reminded me of this WoB: We will have the name of the last Shard in WaT. I agree, it's also possible this is the old friend Hoid will talk to.
  15. Bavadinium can exist on every planet Autonomy is invested enough and probably does exist on Taldain - her home world. God metals aren't limited to Scadrial, they can exist on every planet sufficiently invested by Shards - all Shardblades and Shardplates are made out of god metals of Honor and Cultivation. He has a lot of different abilities, but he's not a Feruchemist - he tried to become one in WoA but failed. Just because he has certain abilities doesn't mean he has to use them. He has some metalminds and spikes in his collection, Brandon even wanted him to use a spike in SA but he didn't need to. He can't fight anyway so many of those powers aren't that useful to him. He's mostly focused on storytelling and for that he needs Lightweaving the most (and Fortune and Connection for everything else). But look at this from a different perspective. In the last few hundred years Hoid was able to obtain 3 new invested arts - Allomancy, Surgebinding and AonDor (and potentially Sand Mastery as well). Sounds a lot, doesn't it? But he's lived for more than 10,000 years, he had all this time to gather all magics there are in Cosmere, yet 3 most flashy and powerful of them weren't in his possession until very recently. That means that you shouldn't expect Hoid to have all invested arts already, you shouldn't expect him to have Valor, Mercy or Invention's powers if he just recently gained Surgebinding and relative to SA and current events, he still have to wait several hundreds years to become an Elantrian - a power which was used in Cosmere almost since the Shattering, before Devotion and Dominion were Splintered. If he couldn’t get those earlier, why would he have other powers?
  16. I think this will happen, eventually the Stormfather will reveal to Dalinar that he was forming a bond with Gavilar and chose him as a champion (as I believe it was the real Stormfather). I don't think the Stormfather is purposefully hiding all of this from Dalinar, rather he simply doesn't understand human ways - if you don't ask, he won't even think about telling you this. But I also think he won't tell him everything about what he wanted to do with Gavilar, he might keep some secrets. OB ch 64: When Dalinar will find out the truth, I think he will be disappointed, betrayed, angry and maybe even a little bit relieved? In this recent chapter he thought that Gavilar would do better than him, but if he learns the truth, he might be more confident, thinking it is the better and more honorable choice for Roshar. He definitely is doing better than Gavilar would have done in his place, so this knowledge might bring him a little bit of relief. Maybe, or maybe not, it's hard to say, those are just my wild speculations.
  17. Looks like this. I wonder if he used an alloy of Lerasium and Bavadinium for this: He probably won't be even able to Awaken another Nightblood in the first place - it's a weapon made with an intent to destroy. A cloak that protects can be made without an intent to kill or harm, but Nightblood not. Yes to some degree. I think yes, but Hoid won't be able to Command it to do that. But others can. In this case intent would matter. Hoid can't Command Lifeless to "bring him coins" while having in mind hurting others. Intent will define how those Lifeless will act. I think he can draw them only if he's absolutely certain they won't hurt anybody. I wanted to say that they might be considered as weapons and Hoid can't even hold any weapon, but then I remembered that Hoid has a sword all the time on Roshar and once he even drew it and gave it to Jasnah, so he certainly can draw those Aons. And this also gives us an insight where the limits are - he can give a weapon to someone else to harm others, does it also apply to Awakening - I don’t know. He would if he doesn't know that it will hurt somebody, once it hurts he would be frozen. If he knew, I doubt he would be able to push.
  18. I doubt it. While Khriss and Hoid know each other and Hoid thinks of her well, I doubt she's an "old friend" of his - she's certainly not as old as Cultivation. In fact she reacted very strongly, when Kelsier told her Hoid stole Lerasium from the Well and she left Scadrial after hearing that. Hoid doesn't need someone who knows Realmatics well, he needs someone who knows Vessels - Rayse specifically - and Shardic Oaths. Khriss stays far away from Vessels. She also doesn't intervene on that scale, she’s just a scholar collecting knowledge. Frost is a strong candidate, the only thing that disqualifies him is his non-interventionism. But he knows Rayse very well, he met him before the Shattering and Hoid already exchanged mail with him. However, now I think Hoid is talking about the Vessel of Valor. They seem to be on good terms, Valor even misses him and she would certainly know a lot about Rayse and Shardic deals - she has a personal experience in that. And we have a WoB that says Valor will be name dropped in WaT. RoW letter:
  19. Yes, we don't know where his perpendicularity is and if there is one, but there most likely should be. Brandon RAFO'd questions about it. Should work. It would have worked for Ruin. But the difference is that Ruin created Scadrial, Odium didn't. He needs to use up much more of his power to achieve that and that would leave him exposed. A giant storm, not matter how big it is, can't destroy an entire planet. I agree, the smaller strom was never meant to free Odium - Dalinar was meant to do that, Rayse even said that to him. If Rayse had some other plan to free himself from Roshar, he wouldn't have been so desperate to make Dalinar free him. However, Rayse himself said to Dalinar that he didn't want to destroy Roshar, because Roshar is his training ground - he needed soldiers and he was preparing all of Roshar to fight for him in the incoming war. This means Rayse certainly didn't plan nor accumulated any other storm to destroy Roshar and if moving one, tiny storm to Roshar took Rayse centuries, then Taravangian will be unable to create a new storm in the incoming decades, that is big enough to seriously damage the planet, not to mention destroy it (let's be real, a storm can't destroy a planet). RoW ch 112: Why would lack of a perpendicularity matter here at all? Perpendicularity just pierces realms. And Honor and Cultivation won't notice a giant storm suddenly appearing around Ashyn? They would. They were both invested in the entirety of the system, Cultivation even visited Ashyn at some point and magic on Ashyn is Cultivation based. She would be well aware about anything that is happening on Ashyn. Not exactly, it was already on Roshar, they just pulled it from the CR to PR. Assuming there is a storm there, it's simply too far away. With a Dawnshard it could be possible, but without probably the can't do this at all if it's not on Roshar. Singers are Connected to Roshar, they are hearing Rhythms of Roshar, Ashyn is not a place they are Connected to, they can hear. Just because humans were guided once by Rhythms to Roshar, doesn't mean that Singers can attract a storm from Ashyn. But Odium wanted to kill Cultivation, she just was hiding. Odium was also afraid of Cultivation attacking him if he were to break his Oath to Dalinar. This means Odium can kill Cultivation, if she weren't hiding and Cultivation can attack Odium, if he exposes himself. Moreover, Cultivation in the past was fighting alongside Tanavast against Honor, not to mention they were romantically involved. I highly doubt she helped kill Honor. OB ch 57: RoW ch 112: This cleared a few things up and it makes more sense now. Still, I don't think a storm is around Ashyn or it was all planned by Rayse, but this made me wonder what would happen if TOdium moved the entirety of the Barrier Storm from Braize to Roshar? That would be a disaster, even if he were to leave it surrounding the Rosharan subastral. If it was raging within the subastral, it would wreck the entire Shadesmar. And of course, it would be apocalyptic if they were to be summoned fully into PR. One giant storm covering the entire planet - it would basically transform Roshar into Neptune, which has wind as fast as 2000 km/h. That would definitely be the end of all life on Roshar. I still doubt Taravangian would go this far and I doubt this would free him, but this might be possible. Personally I do agree that a disaster awaits Roshar, but I think it will be the Night of Sorrows - endless Weeping with no Stormlight after the Stormfather's death, caused by Dalinar breaking the terms of the contest, which freed Odium. I do expect the same outcome as you do, but not on that scale.
  20. Yeah, that's true, but if he can't do it with the easiest way, it's very unlikely he would be able to do it with other ways. The same applies to any other type of investiture, it would be equally as difficult to convert Preservation's investiture into Breaths, as to convert Stormlight into Breaths. That's not comparable at all. The Command was already issued during the Awakening, reacting to an emotional state is like reacting to a finger tapping - Vasher Awakened a rope that reacted to his taps differently. It's probably not that hard to do and you still can't Command it mentally. I think that too. He was in a state of pure panic, for the first time in who knows how long, so his subconscious or his body intent to survive took over, trying to defend him against a thread that wasn't there. Why not? That seems like a very smart thing to do when you're a number 1 target on Roshar currently (with your protections against Odium lacking). Immortal or not, a spike could steal a loooot from him. I don't think so, I don't remember TSM well now. Constraining without hurting wouldn't count. It's not like he's attacking them. And I don't think it would prevent him from Awakening, even if he were to be paralyzed when his clothes tie somebody up. No, I think if he suffocates someone with Awakening, he would be locked. He probably have to Awaken in a smart way to prevent objects from doing any harm.
  21. Yes, the Recreance and the imprisonment are two separate events, but were probably days or hours apart from each other. The effects of the imprisonment could be felt by everyone who belonged to Roshar (by the Sibling's words), so Radiants didn't need a lot of time to realize what a mess they'd made. This is also the reason why I said if the Sibling banished everyone from the Tower, why would they choose not to break their bond as well? Connection changes are most likely Mishram's doing, or rather she Connected herself to all Singers via some method and capturing her in a gemstone ripped all those Connections out (just like capturing Jezrien in a gemstone was immediately felt by every Herald because their Connection was broken, even though it took weeks for Jez's soul to fully fade). Bondsmith is not needed for that. I think it's best to avoid ANY WaT spoilers outside of the Spoiler Zone.
  22. We know that no Bondsmith existed during the Recreance and the Sibling ended their bond before it happened. We also know that Re-Shephir was captured by a Lightweaver, not a Bondsmith. Dalinar was able to capture Thrill not because of his Bondsmithing powers, but because he knew it well - probably the same was needed to capture Mishram. The Tower was abandoned before Mishram was imprisoned, I doubt Melishi was still bonded with the Sibling after all of this. RoW ch 87: OB ch 30:
  23. You're right, Highstorms predate the Shattering (so light distribution most likely too), but Roshar is just around 12,000 years old, not millions of years old. There are no fossils on Roshar (Vasher said this), there are naturally existing gemstones deep in the stone, but also those buried by crem over years. Odium came to Roshar specifically to Splinter Honor and Cultivation, just like he Splinter 3 different Shards before - he isn't hunting Hoid. Fused also know Hoid. We don't know a lot about this, so it's hard to say anything for certain, but Leshwi words strongly suggest that it was Dawnsingers who first offended or betrayed spren, forcing spren away from them and towards humans. This most likely contributed heavily to the switch of gods. RoW ch 109: Those beings (several of them, not one) are just spren. Tanavast is dead, the Stormfather is his/Honor's Cognitive Shadow, Honorblade are just a drop in the ocean of power which is the Shard of Honor. Manifesting the Stormfather as a Shardblade might kill him (Dalinar hurt him a lot when trying to do that in OB), and it would be almost impossible to just merge him with other blades (Honorblades are still self-aware) - and that would achieve nothing anyway.
  24. That's the RoW map, this map corresponds to the region of Tukar, Emul and Azir (not Aimia). This can't be the Grand Knell, because the Azish gate is just a few degrees off (truthfully, nearly a full circle measured clockwise) the direction towards that location, while Drehy said they have to travel 48 degrees off. It doesn't match. WaT ch 7: WaT ch 11: RoW map:
