When you and your ex-room mate both get each other bridge 4 patches for xmas...(this actually happened)...we now do the salute each time we see one another wearing it (his is on a jacket...mine is on a hat)

When you're girlfriend roasts a whole chicken and tells you she put an "aluminum hat" on it and you wonder why it needs protection from emotional allomancy since chickens are only from Roshar.

When you constantly quote Wayne to your non-reader friend to show her what she's missing.

When you're watching Frozen and that friend asks how the trolls necklaces glow, and you say "oh, probably with Stormlight." Or when you get really distracted because you're comparing and contrasting Anna with Shallan. They do kind of look alike.

When you try to get a friend to read Stomlight archive by telling him a few tidbits about the books... and twenty minutes latter you've told him the complete background story for the Cosmere.

There is something I have done many times...

No, I haven't. I wait for them to read the books, telling them that they cannot look up any spoilers on the Internet (since the Cosmere is acknowledged FAR too widely on the web, in my opinion). Then I figure out if they have any suspicions, and then I push them in the right direction. I personally believe that the Cosmere is so much cooler if you figure it out on your own. Like I suspected for a few years and then finally found out.

...

What? I like secrets.

One could almost say there's... 'always another secret'...

When you "accidentally" build a new game based upon the SYMBOLS of Mistborn. True story, I did that, so far I have spent fortyish hours writing rules, constructing cards, and using Photoshop to make it look literally perfect. I showed it to him at Comic Con this last Saturday and he thought it was pretty cool.

When a conversation goes like this:

Friend 1:Why are you petting the table with your foot?

Friend 2:Maybe it wanted petted. Tables have feelings too.

Friend 1: No they don't.

Me: Actually in the cosmere all things exist in the three realms including the Cognitive realm. So the table kind of would have feelings. If you were a Soulcaster you could go to the Cognitive realm and try to persuade it to change...

Friend 1:*eyes start to glass over* Oh go talk to Friend 3(my only Sanderfan friend).

Caution: A non-spoilery line from Firefight is referenced in this post.

When you hear that "The average person speaks 20000 words per day, that's enough to fill a book!"

And your response is: "Well sure, if you wanted to be a pedestrian with your books."

When whenever you mention something remotely fantasy related your friends immediate reaction is to say "is that something from Mistborn?" (and when the only times they're wrong are because its something from another Sanderson book.)

When you decide that just buying a bluebook for your next exam is silly so you look around for something else to add to the purchase, and you walk out of the store with a copy of The Emperor's Soul.

When, one bright Sunday morning, you, having seen this Sanderson guy mentioned (and, based on the surname, wondered if he's some distant relative) pick up The Final Empire, read it, and think "This book. I like it. ANOTHER" [insert appropriate Thor gif here].

And then, almost exactly one week later, you realise you have read every published cosmere work.

(I'm not going to survive the wait, am I?)

No, you're not. Another thing that you will find is that no other book is as enjoyable as a Sanderson novel. Basically you will read ever story and think how much better it would have been if Brandon had written it and then you will go back to eternally reading and rereading cosmere until you die. I know, and I have only been a been reading his works for a few months.

Have you gone to his website and read the annotations? Those are fun to just get a better idea of what he does (and some Cosmere hints, too...).

I've just started in on his site/these forums/all the extras. Maybe this time I can exert a modicum of self-control and make it last longer than a week. Good thing he's given us so much to speculate on in the books - it's an excellent excuse to re-read instead of, you know, being a productive and useful member of society
