Long Game 109: The Lords of Luthadel
Araris Valerian replied to TwinStorm's topic in Sanderson Elimination
That game is on hiatus until such time as we can get enough players to run it (and when Aman, the GM, isn't too busy). I hid the thread for now.- 312 replies

I think LG 11 might have allowed conditional actions to some degree, but that game is probably not a great template for designing a balanced game either.

I think this would be the way to go. That way you get the first NK before the first exe, but a lot of votes placed before that first NK happens.
-
This thread is a good place for this discussion, since it can let folks not on the committee chime in and see what kind of rules folks are coming up with. I like the new concept. I’m not entirely sure about the cycle times, but I guess anything shorter would start feeling like a QF.
-
If that's the case, I'd suggest announcing the use of the role to the thread. I think there's a potential for unhealthy dynamics around claiming to be the target of a Sand Master otherwise.
-
Yeah, so what happens if they do? Does their vote just not count? Or do they get banned from the game for breaking the rules?
-
Given your cycle time, this would be a MR game, rather than a LG. I’m a bit concerned about the assassination. I’d say a better way to handle that would to have 12 or 24-hour cutoffs where the elims get team can send in their kill. So for example, the elims send in a kill on me at hour 6, and then at hour 12 I am removed from the game. If instead the kill was sent at hour 13, I’d be removed at hour 24. That removes the burden on you to be constantly checking PMs (especially in a game with totally open PMs) and will help avoid things like players not realizing they are dead and posting. If you really wanted to run the game with the rules as written above it would probably need to be run as a Break Tank game. On a related note, I’m not sure the elims really gain much from sending in an early kill, since it just lets the village have more info to factor in when deciding on who to vote for. Many potentially OP roles can be balanced by giving them limited charges. But honestly the KR doesn’t seem that overpowered, since it runs on a 1-cycle delay and can’t repeat a target. My main concern would be with the mechanics; is KR protection announced, and if not, what happens to “invalid” votes? Somewhat related, is the Sand Master like a delayed “soothe”?
-
Yes, and you can also post them on the discord, which has a place for discussion of rules. When the rules get to a more polished state you can also PM the committee for suggestions and/or pre-approval.
-
I don't really play QF games a lot, but if I did I'd probably aim to spend roughly an hour per cycle, spread into 2-3 periods of reading and responding to posts. It doesn't really need to be that much of a time commitment.

Drake/the other players might have different thoughts, but I would say as long as you are comfortable playing a little catchup, you should be fine to join. With ~14 players, having one person missing for most of C1 doesn't seem like it would disrupt the game balance much. If you do remain as a player, I would advise putting the ~4 hours you are available in for C1 to good use .

The latter; the NK and other role actions will be submitted during the cycle and resolved once voting is closed but before the next cycle gets posted. We generally don't have abilities that resolve immediately (except PM creation perhaps) because that makes things harder for folks in different time zones from the GM.

I'll be the Impartial Mod for this game. I guess that makes me the Force or something. Welcome to Sanderson Elimination! Let me (or Drake) know if you have any questions during the game.

It looks crazy! I like the sudden death turn, that seems like something that really would only work in a QF. My main issue with these rules would probably be related to the vote manip, especially if we assume ~12 players. I think the elims ability to coordinate would give them a decent boost and let them close things out a cycle before they otherwise would be able to, which means the village would need to really have things together. Perhaps the number of protects and the coinshot scan would be enough to offset that though.

With Drake running the QF, I think we should get a general idea of who might be interested in running LG 109. A bunch of folks near the top of the signup lists aren't very active, which makes finding the next GM take a bit longer. The estimated time to post signups for the LG would be ~2 weeks depending on when Drake's game starts (a QF with 12 players would last less than a week). The current LG list is @Experience @Steeldancer(twice) @xinoehp512 (and again later) @The Wandering Wizard (and again later) @Ashbringer (and again later) @Elandera @Aeoryi @KelsierApologist (twice) @TwinStorm If you are on this list and think you are interested/able in running the next game, let me know. If you are on this list and would like to be marked inactive (meaning you won't get pinged anymore until you request to be marked active again), please let me know that as well. Once the QF starts if I still haven't heard from anyone then I'll start pinging folks on Discord. I'd also like to thank @A Jo in the Bush and others for helping keep things moving along . I can't access my google account from where I'm at, but when I can I'll update the GM spreadsheet, adding/removing Joe from the MR list and adding Seonid. Edit: The spreadsheet has been updated

LG108, Aftermath — The Battle of Diggen's Point
Araris Valerian replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Glad you had fun! Now that I have a taste for your elim play I'm going to be much more wary/less forgiving of you in the future . And of course, maybe we'll get to team up and do some murdering together in the future . Don't feel bad about the activity, I think your team managed to muddle things enough that I could have exed both Joe and RBM without guessing your alignment. And honestly with Joe's distancing on RBM I might not have even gotten that far. I was seriously considering a swap to RBM but didn't because I didn't think anyone would follow. You voting TUH should probably have been a red flag for me, but honestly I kept reading you as "earnest but misguided villager" and that was overpowering any misgivings I had. -
LG108, Aftermath — The Battle of Diggen's Point
Araris Valerian replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I totally missed Joe's vote switch, so I was rather confused when Aman sent me a PM about the aftermath. That led to me thinking we were in the "incompetent elims accidentally saved v!Hoid" world. I feel less bad about losing given the 2 inactive villagers meant that no amount of analysis could pull off a win. Props to Hoid for pocketing me (I'm a sucker for new players that look like they're trying to solve), to Joe for very nearly convincing me that you were village, and to RBM for escaping notice. Thanks @Amanuensis for running this, I had a lot of fun! Edit: Sadly for me, the village probably would have been better off if I'd gotten exed instead of TwinStorm on D3 Armiel clung to the railing of The Rat's Tale for support, breathing raggedly. He'd been moving the food supplies on deck in preparation for disembarking when the attack had come, slashing open his arm to the bone. Armiel didn't really know anything about medicine, but he was pretty sure he'd die if he didn't get some kind of treatment immediately. "While Fort may be literally the only person who is a worse cook than me, everyone on this ship can agree that if you can eat it, I can burn it. This pot here, on top of all the food? It's full of Sunlight Spores, a dozen times as many as I used to burn our first breakfast. And I've got some Zephyr Spores mixed in to blast the ashes across the sporesea." Armiel grimaced at the pain of talking, shifted the hand staunching his bleeding, and continued. "All I ask is to be allowed to join the captain and the other officers." -
LG108: A Tale of Rats and Spores
Araris Valerian replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Honestly, with this level of activity, we very well could be in the world where the elims fumbled healing Hoid during the night. Then the elims would be something like STINK, RBM, TUH. Whatever. -
LG108: A Tale of Rats and Spores
Araris Valerian replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
We have something like 99% confidence that either Joe or Hoid is elim, based on the healing votes last turn. So if you think Hoid is village, you should vote for Joe, and if you think Joe is village, you should vote for Hoid. I don’t think anyone else is a realistic candidate for today. There’s a small chance that the elims fumbled a win by having 2 of them vote to save Hoid, which is the only reason I can think of to justify voting for anyone else. -
LG108: A Tale of Rats and Spores
Araris Valerian replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I mean, if Hoid is village and Joe is village then the elims should have won already, since that means 2 elims voted to save v!Hoid. Technically it’s a possibility but I’m not seriously considering it. Thus both e!Joe and v!Joe would vote for Hoid today. -
