  1. I've been demoted...
  2. Interesting idea...I think this would entirely depend on how Brandon defines gender in the Cosmere, whether it is intrinsic and integral to the individual (Spiritual?) or more transitory and a matter of perception (Cognitive?). Given he's LDS, I'd err on the side of the former, but anything is possible given our limited knowledge base.
  3. Just a side note, I've noticed people getting a little down-vote happy lately and would like to comment that, as I understand it, down-votes are usually reserved for offensive or belligerent posts. I bring this up because I notice that the OP has couple of down-votes, likely just because it states a less-stellar review of WoR. I don't personally think expressing an unpopular opinion warrants the equivalent of an offensive post. I'm not a moderator or anything, but let's try and keep it positive, k guys? I also was a tad disappointed with the character growth in WoR, though the book itself was so amazing its barely a valid criticism. I actually liked Shallan's story a lot, even if the flashbacks were a little predictable. Her back-story wasn't as epicly tragic as Kaladin's, but I thought it was a lot more relate-able, and it definitely helped define her character. Lift was awesome. I liked Renarin's development, but he could certainly use more. Similarly, what little we saw of Jasnah was cool, but we obviously need more.
  4. Perhaps the big thing we are missing is just that we've already discovered everything...My head hurts from just looking at these maps for a few minutes.
  5. The voidbringers begin summoning the everstorm...
  6. Unless the mass of the planet changed....It could be that they kept the same measurement of years, despite the fact that the planet was orbiting faster.
  7. Jumping in here, I always assumed (and still kind of do) that the "whatever-it-is" on the original cover was just a bag filled with infused spheres. I defiantly don't see it as a gemheart, or a puddle of stormlight. I also never really felt the lack of future mention of the gemheart was significant. Remember, Kaladin had just lost Syl. He probably wasn't thinking about having a super-stormlight battery to carry around. And it is probably pretty hard to carry a gemheart around inconspicuously. It might be significant later on, but I don't think it's worth arguing about.
  8. And there's the fact that listeners can only change form during highstorms. I think the everstorm is getting there first.
  9. Well said. This is one big reason why I love his books so much. On top of being awesome, well-written, compelling, and whatever else, his books are also powerful statements about morality, good vs. evil, and whatever else. I find the WoK alone to be a more significant, thought-provoking work than anything I was forced to read in high school English.
  10. I'm actually leaning away from Hoid as the author. To me, it just feels wrong. Also, if we're assuming that Nazh is collecting info for the author, then it is quite likely the author is female...
  11. I like your thoughts on the spiritual effect of Feruchemical nicrosil, but I'm pretty sure Inestiture by itself doesn't help against a shardblade. I believe we have WoB that nether stormlight or Breath give any kind of protection. I think the Investitre has to be used in a very particular way to block a shardblade.
  12. But the spoiler tags make the title look so much more official .
  13. There are obviously WoR spoilers, as well as some content from Warbreaker. If you have not read either, GO AND READ THEM NOW. Anyway, I had a theory as to how one might go about reviving a dead spren, assuming their ex-Radiant is dead and decomposing. As I understand it, the spren is dies essentially because when the Radiant breaks his/her oaths, the bond is broken, thus removing whatever part of the spren is granting sentience. So what other magic system is known to have sentience-granting capacity, of which we have a lovely example right in WoR? Awakening. (As a side note, I did consider Hemalurgy, but it does't take long to realize all the problems associated with that particular method). I bet the key to reviving dead spren lies in Breath. We know all it takes to restore a dead human to some semblance of their old life is one Breath, and a thousand can make even an inanimate object sentient. I am completely sold on this idea. The only questions I see are how much Breath would actually be need, and whether the spren would regain its memories. I'm thinking it wouldn't require much, the spren isn't actualy dead, just stuck, and since Syl regained her personality and memories without issue, i don't expect the latter to be a problem either. If you still don't like the idea, just imagine Adolin holding his shardblade, preparing to duel Odium's champion, when he softly says: "Life before death. My life to yours, my breath become yours." Flash! Whoosh! Ta-dah, brand new radiant! Edit: Here is the relevant WoB
  14. Unless we learn something significant, I think we can expect to see him survive a while. He is minor (enough) that general audiences probably wouldn't be interested in reading his flashbacks, especially if he's not even still alive.
  15. I didn't even notice this. The script is definitely mirrored. Ugh. I took me about half an hour to translate just the few lines from Navani's notebook, and that wasn't backwards.
  16. Yay! I bet we'll see some of what was going on in WoR from Renarin's perspective. Also this means we can probably expect to see other semi-minor characters from the first cycle become important in the second. So I'm calling that Lift will also have a flashback book.
  17. Having read Dragonsteel, but being bound by the Laws of the Forum, I don't know how much I can say about this. Just remember that a considerable amount of that story is outdated. While it is possible that Frost and the author of this letter are the same, he could be completely different than what is found in Dragonsteel
  18. About the whole future seeing vs. calculating thing...Syl expressly says that seeing the future is not of Honor, but not that it is the exclusive purview of Odium. There are three Shards here, and I'm fairly certain that Cultivation is as involved in the Radiants as Honor (Liespren aren't exactly honorable). Assuming Truthwatchers are order five, they are on the other side of the spectrum from the Windrunners, which seem to be the closest to Honor. I have no problem with Renarin seeing the future. I just think his order is much closer to Cultivation than not. What I am really interested about is these odd abilities all of the radiant seem to have that are mostly unrelated to their Surges (Shallan has Memories, Kaladin is an uber-fighter, Skybreakers can apparently detect guilt, and Truthwatchers can see the future.) I am in the pro-Renarin crowd and I really hope we get to see some more awesomeness from him in the future.
  19. Page 1064!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  20. I was almost hopping I would be booted, but since I haven't been told otherwise, I guess I'm in. Erendi was on edge. He thought this place was going to be safe, somewhere he wouldn't have to constantly watch over his shoulder for Inquisitors...So much for wishful thinking.
  21. This is the first place I've met people with music tastes remotely similar to my own. LotR is good, I also like the World of Warcraft soundtracks. I recently bough the skyrim soundtrack and am rather enjoying it. It has TONS of ambient music.
  22. I just think the d&d alignment system is stoopid.
  23. I never thought I'd want to be a cadmium misting so bad..... BE MIDNIGHT ALREADY!!!
  24. If I weren't so responsible I would skip classes all day to just hang out at the bookstore....
