  1. This is the end.

I had a post written up, I had it down and was going to post it.I knew what I was going to say. It was short, sweet and did what it needed to do.

    It said goodbye.

Yet... it feels insignificant. It feels wrong. It wasn't as meaningful as my goodbye needs to be.

While I will be coming back on every now and again to say hi or to post something on a thread I like, maybe look at some status updates to see how people are doing, it will never be the same. For one thing, I have ended my characters in Insanity Clinic and TLT (oh boy, the TLT one was rushed.)

I love all of you. There's nothing short of that. I don't know how much I can pontificate off that without coming off the wrong way. I love all of you. Each and every one of you, no matter how much I have disagreed with some of you at times. Y'all are amazing.

I am going to miss this old place.

Read my cover photo, look at the big paragraph block in my about me. They're all true. If you have my number or email, I'm always there if you need me. If you don't have it but you want it, ask around. Someone most likely will have it and they can ask me if you can get it.

Before I leave, I want to tell you something. You need to remember this. If you don't, then the evil penguins will haunt your dreams repeating it till you do.

You are wonderful, you are amazing, you are loved, you are worthy of love, you deserve the world, you can change, you can become a better person, you can get through it all, you can defeat the pain, you are valued, you are worth the world, you are the bestest, you are a good person, you make people happy, you can do anything you put your mind to, you can become stronger, you can be the best version of yourself you can be.

You are spectacular, don't you forget it.

    I love you.

    It is done.

    It is finished.

    This is the end.

    I am going.

    I am leaving.

God be with you till we meet again, old friend. May our paths cross again.

    Goodbye.

  2. okay chat so like

    i graduated high school

thirteen long years, same campus, i’ve watched it grow so much over that time. been one hell of a ride, you guys.

but i did it. im free now.

  3. you know when you've used a word a lot

    for a long time

like since you were about six years old

and you kinda liked using it

and you thought it was a perfectly fine word if used in lighthearted context

and then you find out it's a swear?

    no?

    just me?

    oh

    ok

    cool

I was talking with a lady from our old ward once and she told me that, in an effort to stop swearing, she substituted the problem word for a cool-sounding one from another language. Problem was, that "cool-sounding word" was the exact equivalent to the swear she was trying to avoid. :P

  4. You know when you have standards? And then those standards kick you hard in the groin?

I've said before that I have a limit on how many F bombs there can be in a book before I quit. Well, to sleep in a sea of stars has reached it in 60 pages.

    Ah well.

Also, I plan on making a post before I leave fully sometime in the evening today after I've written up two or three other posts, so watch for that one.

I feel ya. I'm more okay with it in books (The Martian is a favorite novel of mine) but in music, I'm much, much more sensitive to it.

  6. Hiiiiiiiiiiiii it's my Shardiversary!

It's been seven years now, I think.

Gonna keep this short cause I'm really not active on here much anymore, but I'm just going to thank a few people.

@The Awakened Salad HEY NERD. I love you. Just. Yeah. You're really really cool. You know how I feel about you. :P I can talk to you about anything, and you're just one of my absolute favorite people ever.

@AonEne HEY NERD. I love you. You're also super duper cool, and it's always fun to pull the "I know a mod and his dog attempted to initiate relations with me" card. (I don't do anything with it, I just show it to people I guess. I think I mention you more than I mention my aunt knowing Emily really well? Anyways.) I'm really going to miss being close to you next year, but we made it work before then and it will continue to work. Thanks for just. Always being there.

So grateful for the FAB squad as a whole, you two really are just two of my closest friends and I hope it stays that way for eternity. (My ghost will haunt your ghosts.) (I feel like that's a reference to something but I'm not sure what.) (Might be a Skyward quote actually?)

@Knight of Iron Koiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Thanks for being awesome. I'm always so thrilled when you DM me. I love talking to you so much. Thanks for being my Hollow Knight buddy.

@Ed Venture HEY NERD. (I could great every single one of you like that.) Okay so here's an example of how Vennie is the best human being ever. She lived down the road from me this last school year. When I was moving out to come back home for the summer, I invited her over so we could hang out one last time before I left. I was expecting her to just kinda hang out while I cleaned and we'd talk or maybe watch something, but she just showed up and asked how she could help. And she then proceeded to clean the majority of the kitchen. (My two roommates who left early didn't do much cleaning.) AND when I left the next day, I had mentioned that morning on Discord in a random channel having gotten a cut on my finger and thinking it was infected but having all my first aid stuff packed, and she ran by to say bye and just. Brought me a bandaid and some antibiotic stuff from her job. I have nothing for praise but this wonderful lady, I'm going to miss her so much next year. (I'm going to a different college.)

@DramaQueen HEY NERD. Thanks for being such a great roommate! You're crazy and I'm worried about your quantity of free time, but I have so much respect for you for just. Doing it. You're really cool, and I'm going to miss having you around next year. (I have to live with people I don't know????)

@King Oreo Hello my child. Thank you so much for all the memes, and all the pictures of your critters, and of course for sharing all of your art! I love you so much, and I'm so grateful to have you in my life. Talking to you always brightens my day.

@Mist @Condensation @Vapor Hi nerds!!! Sorry for grouping you all together, but I wanted to mention all of you and I'm going to bed very soon. But you all are so cool??? Just you're all genuinely so thoughtful and kind, and so fun to be around. I'm also going to miss being close to you all, but I'm so grateful we got to hang out so much this last year (even though it wasn't anywhere near enough). (Tell the cats I love them.)

And of course a shout out to everyone who has touched my life, especially the Knights of the Cosmere roleplayers back in 2017 and the original TUBA group. Thanks for letting me know what it's like to belong. I'm eternally grateful.

Until next year! (Unless I just totally leave by then, I really don't know what will happen.)

  7. *Sits down*

I didn't plan on making this SU.

Nor did I plan on coming on here today.

I don't plan to do a lot of the major things I decide. They come in quick, decisive moments where every bit of my mind is chanting "Change! Change! Change!" This moment, right here, this is one of those moments.

I could not have chosen a better place to spend my time in the past three years than on here and in Minecraft, meeting people. My time has been truly phenomenal, I've learned so much, I've grown, I've changed, I've become a different person in so many different ways.

However, there comes a time when you realize that you have to know when to stop. When you realize that the thing that helped you change so much perhaps has only one more change for you.

    It's time to move on.

I... I didn't plan on this. I've already mentioned that, but I feel like it needs to be said again. I did not plan on doing this any time soon. I thought that I could stay on here the way I've been for a couple years, till my mission and all that. Yet... if I am going to actually change, I need to cut things out of my life. Which is why I am leaving the Shard.

I'm not leaving the Shard completely, I'll come on like once or twice on a weekend to make an update or look at people's profiles who I especially care about (Hey, I care about all of you, but even I have favorites) for SUs I might be interested. I'll hop on when a new book comes out to see how the discussion is going, maybe chip in some thoughts. It won't be the same.

I'm going to put up a few posts on threads I especially care about to wrap up some things, get a few last laughs. That'll prob be the last few times I post in those specific threads for a good long while.

If some of you want my phone number or email, shoot me a PM before Sunday. Anytime after and I'll prob have deleted the thing that makes it so I get emails from the Shard, signed out and made it so I can't access the shard on most days.

Look at the final two paragraphs in my about me. They're for you.

I didn't plan on making this SU, yet here we are.

This isn't goodbye, not forever. I'll be back every now and then for a small bit of time on Saturdays, and I won't be leaving till Saturday night.

I'll post another SU when I'm leaving, to let y'all know.

Until then, yours truly, Thaidakar the Ghostblood.

p.s. no, I'm not doing the Bilbo speech again.

  8. Okay, there's another weirdly specific theme I've noticed in the three Secret Projects I've read so far:

    Spoiler

Fairly big spoilers for Yumi and Sunlit, not so much for Frugal Wizard. Anyway, the theme is:

    Spoiler

Scientists behaving so badly that they make life objectively worse for entire populations, if not entire planets. I mean, in Frugal Wizard, you have….

    Spoiler

Frugal Wizard LLC, who allow what amounts to demigods to run amok in technologically backward dimensions with no regard for how that will affect the lives of the people who live there, and

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter has the

Torish scholars who built a superpowered soul-eating machine and killed everyone on their planet except for bands of nomads, locking the memories of the few Invested yoki-hijo into never-ending tedium while the planet itself was plunged into darkness and the nomads were left to contend with living nightmares attacking at random, and

      Spoiler

Forgive me for not remembering if you've said whether or not you've finished Era 2. If so:

      Spoiler

It seems Scadrial's well on its way back to good old-fashioned political corruption, so I wouldn't be surprised. I expect that whoever our POV characters are in the future, they'll be more-or-less good people, and that the roles we've seen so far just self-select for callous people.

  10. how hard do you think it would be to buy the rights to a cosmere property myself

like if i choose a niche medium and a smaller property, could I convince brandon to let me buy the rights

like what if i try to by the videogame rights to 6th of the Dusk or something

and then i just make like a tiny fishing minigame but it’s officially licensed for no reason

    1. Slowswift

      Slowswift

"Licenced for no reason" is where I think you'd run into trouble. But that aside, I wholeheartedly support this idea.

My favorite's probably Tarah, one of the bonus tracks. But it's been a hot minute since I've listened to the whole thing, myself.

  12. All right, I'ma crowdsource some worldbuilding 'cause it's giving me too much of a headache.

Consider, if you will: In front of you is a book. This book is magical. Oh, on the outside, it's nothing special: a nondescript leatherbound volume, a little worn but in good condition. Maybe it's a famous wizard's journal, maybe it's a grimoire, maybe it's just an outdated almanac. But something about this book has the potential to end the world if it fell into the wrong hands. What is that something?

  13. guys...

the Most Dangerous Writing App is actually scudding scary as hell

i'd been writing for 10 minutes, had over 500 words, and then my computer froze, and poof, everything was gone in a matter of seconds

    absolutely terrifying

    and mildly humbling

and i'm kinda super upset but like also invigorated, and i wanna try again

it's a really good tool for word sprints, actually!

my heart is beating so fast

    *adrenaline rush*

it was so much fun though and i 10/10 do not recommend

  15. I am so tempted to just get singing lessons at this point- I just sang if you could how to kolob twice and nearer my god to thee three times. It sounded pretty good to my ears, which means it sounded okay to everyone else. But ya know.

  16. Is anyone else's goal as a writer to have an adaptation with a trailer that has the song "Under Pressure" as the music in it?

    Just me?

    ok.

Also, I watched Across the Spiderverse. 10/10. I'd be lying if I said I didn't love this movie. This was the absolute perfect time for me to watch it. I looooooove it. It's probably the best multiverse film I've seen (before you say it, I know that everything everywhere all at once is good, I just haven't seen it yet). Though, it doesn't top the first Spiderman movie released this century. Toby Maguire and Willem Defoe captured my heart in Spiderman (2002). Across the Spiderverse gets to claim the number 2 spot resoundly.

    1. Slowswift

      Slowswift

Not that song in particular, but I have thought about what songs I'd want in an adaptation of mine before.

  19. Film Ideas:

    - The Robot vs. Humans stereotype, but the 'Robots' are just people that live with VR headsets all the time now.

    - A world where there is a way to travel for short periods of time to an alternate dimension where you basically live through a scenario in someone's shoes. Like mind meld and it's like they are making the same choices that the same person was making so that they can perfectly understand what someone went through.

    1. Slowswift
