I dont think that would work(under most circumstances) Planets are constantly moving. Say i wanted to use Aon Tia to go from Sel to Roshar. it wouldn’t be one set distance like “oh its 3,560 miles to Roshar(its obvi more than that, but its just an example.) both Sel and Roshar are orbiting their suns which means their both moving and the distance between them is constantly changing. i imaging it would work, but not until like the Space age cosmere when theyll have a lot of this(probably) worked out i can see it happening like someone thinks they have the right distance but then end getting transported into the Space around Roshar because the planet is moving Theres just so many factors you could get wrong, even when using it to travel from somewhere like Arelon to Teod like Raoden did. there was a good chance that Raoden would’ve messed that up too(he could’ve transported them to high and they’d fall, or he could’ve done it to low and theyd end up in the ground), so imagine using it to from one planet to another Brightlord Maelstrom Would there be a way that is reasonably feasible to use Aon Tia to teleport off-world? Brandon Sanderson Theoretically yes. Oathbringer release party (Nov. 13, 2017) Brandon Sanderson Chapter Sixty-Two - Part Two Raoden's Teleportation I had to work very hard to make this one work. I think it turned out, but it is a little bit of a stretch. Hopefully, readers will go with me on this one because of the climactic feeling of the near-ending. Regardless, I do think I gave Raoden all the pieces he needed here. Adien always existed in the book for this one moment–to give Raoden the length measurement he needed to go try to save Sarene. I've established that seons have perfect senses of direction, and I've talked about how to use Aon Tia. More importantly, I think I've established that this is something that Raoden would do. He gets just a shade foolhardy when Sarene is concerned. (It's all her fault.) There is another important element to this teleportation. I thought it important to involve deity in the climax of what has been such an overtly religious book. You may not believe in God, and it is never my intention to belittle your choices. However, the format of this book has been one that dealt with religion and the way that people interact with their faith. And so, I took this last moment of the book, and gave Raoden an opportunity to call upon the aid of providence. Raoden arrives safely, despite the odds against his having gotten the distance, direction, and other factors right. You are free to simply think of this as luck, if you wish. Looking at the strategies of both sides for ending a desolation
Eternal Khol replied to Oltux72's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think he was talking about the normal singers “What you saw are a few listeners who remain from the old days, ones free to use the old forms. They summoned a cluster of Voidspren. We’ve found remnants of them on Roshar before, hiding.” “The Voidbringers are not back. What you saw on the Shattered Plains are simply remnants from millennia ago. Voidbringers who have been hiding among us all this time.” It was probably a while before they found out that only one of them had to go. they were all so broken that they couldnt even imagine going back, so they left the one who had no choice in the matter. -

The fused dont hide around roshar. Their whole point of coming back is to kill humans/heralds for odium wouldnt be that hard to find and as long as one died and went back to Braize another desolation wouldn’t start and thered be no point in hunting down the remaining fused(not that theyd hide anyway) -

I dont think anything forces them back to braize. Its just that if the heralds stay on Roshar another desolation will start Brandon says the heralds do need to leave Roshar to end a desolation i think i goes like this -heralds get tortured on braize -heralds break under torture and get sent back to roshar -because of the oathpact, odiums forces are delayed a little longer, letting the heralds prepare the humans while they can -somehow the fused get back fo roshar to lead the forces -everytime a fused dies they get sent back to Braize(presumably until the next time the heralds break under torture -once odiums forces are dealt with(or most of them) the herald retreat back to Braize otherwise they will start another desolation over. luke.spence (paraphrased) What caused a Desolation to end? Was it just the defeat of Odium's forces? Because the Desolations start when the Heralds break under torture. Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Because the Heralds can no longer be in existence. There is a certain period of time that they can be there, and after that, if they're there, they will start a new one. So the Heralds do need to leave for a Desolation to end darkanimereal1 (paraphrased) Oh. So they've got a time limit. Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) They do. Otherwise the Desolation will start again. What they discovered is not all of them have to. As long as one remains, the Desolation will not start again. Narkac Where does the Stormlight in highstorms come from? Is there like a "rain cycle", but for the Stormlight? Brandon Sanderson The Stormlight in the highstorm is transferred from the Spiritual realm through the Stormfather into the highstorm. Paris signing (Oct. 22, 2016)

I have this little theory about aethers and the shattering. what if when Adon was Shattered, and all investiture got assigned to a shard, that some of the Aethers got “assigned” to one shard and the others got “assigned” to a second shard. unitentionally creating a planet that could attract 2 shards, because their magic is already there Theres six more unrevealed Shards and only one more new series in theCosmere timeline in the State of The Sanderson 2019 i think theres gotta be one more shard pair

The Stormlight comes from the Spiritual Realm through Stormfather and into the storm

Okkkkk. That makes a lot more sense now. Thanks for clearing that up. But if Honor just kept healing their bodies for hundreds of years(or however long the desolation timespan was)wouldn’t it be like they had a new body? because it’s constantly getting healed and remade with investiture patching over the bad parts, so eventually youd have a whole new spiritweb(or at least the part of your spiritweb that includes your body?)that’s a copy of the old i still think they do get new bodies when they die, based on this WoB Its still not a total confirmation as he was being very vague.... but still. Questioner Can a Returned be made from Stormlight? Brandon Sanderson How would you count the Heralds? Questioner I haven't read much, so I don't really know what you're talking about. Brandon Sanderson In the Stormlight books, there is a set of people who are constantly reborn, into full sized grown bodies that are being created for them. Would you count that as being Returned? Or do you count Returned...What's your definition, right? You can create something that is Returned-like. But your definition of what is Returned and what is not, is going to be involved in that. so if we go off of what your saying, And Ash is indeed in her late teens to early twenties, everytime shalash is reborn, shed get put into a immature body then spend the next few years “growing” until her brain and body are that of a “25” year old adult that doesn’t sound right to me im not really grasping what your trying to convey, so just correct me if im misinterpreting all this

Is there an interstellar black market for Breaths?
Eternal Khol replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
He asked which heightening because Nalthis is like the easiest planet to get to and the easiest magic system to access. on top of that. Riino wasnt aware that spren bonds were happening again and he knew kaladin was invested so he just assumed kaladin had breath -
Questioner I have a bit of a problem with the first Desolation timeline. I'm wondering how old were the Heralds when they became Heralds. Brandon Sanderson The age that you would see them as when you met them. They basically are the age they look. When they became Heralds, they are the age that they appeared. Questioner So they were like in their younger middle age? Brandon Sanderson Some of them. I mean Ishar is older. Questioner So that means that the entire timeline of the first Desolation happened within a single lifetime? Brandon Sanderson A lot of the ancient chronologies are wrong and you won't get the actual answers until the Heralds themselves explain it in their flashback sequences in the back five. Questioner You've said that the Heralds came over from Ashyn. Brandon Sanderson Yes. Questioner Okay. How old were they then? Brandon Sanderson Younger than they were when they became Heralds. Based on the fact that the Aethers seem to have emotions or something that humans recognize as “emotions”, id classify them as Sentient pieces of investiture that are capable of bonding with humans theyd most likely be classified as Splinters Kinda similar to lesser spren. but more powerful. As to what fuels them, its gotta be a direct connection to a Shard we dont know yet. If there are as many Aethers in the Canon of the Cosmere as there are in the novel then that mean that there’s thousands of Splinters on the planet(maybe more. For all we know, Aethers planet could also have 2 shards) or maybe the humans themselves fuel the Aethers. If the Aethers were being directly fueled by a shard like with Allomancy, then the Aethers shouldnt get “tired” like they do. “ D’Naa fell back, fear numbing her body, her Aether pulsing in anticipation.” “D’Naa fell back, fear numbing her body, her Aether pulsing in anticipation.” Overlord Jebus All the physical manifestations--solid physical manifestations we've seen of Investiture has been metallic. It's been atium, lerasium, Shardblades. Is that just a coincidence? Brandon Sanderson No, it's intentional. Overlord Jebus It's intentional so we're not going to see Investiture wood or Investiture plastic? Brandon Sanderson Right, I mean technically, like, what do you call the Aethers? Those are not metal. But I do it as metal intentionally. Questioner They could be a metal with very low boiling point. Brandon Sanderson Yeah, the vine ones are-- Overlord Jebus Well we've had liquid, we've had gas, the solids all seem to be metallic, so. Brandon Sanderson That is intentional, it's just one of those little laws of the cosmere, that's not meant to mean anything Emerald City Comic Con 2018 (March 1, 2018)

everyone always says this, but i think we just never got to see the full extent of Illuminous' power. sure, it couldnt create things like Night could, but that doesnt automatically make it weaker or that there could be other things it could do, that Night cant.
-
i think they would. Taln talks about “sharing” the pain with the other heralds. I think they most certainly would’ve noticed if someone wasn’t getting their “share” of the torture

at first it was like they were in solitary isolation.all alone with no way to contact anyone else. Then when their Aethers(which theyre trapped in) were bonded they went from being in solitary to minimum security. Still in prison, but with more privileges In a way, its like Ruin’s prison(after the twins Aether’s were bonded) They can see the world, they just cant interact with it in any meaningful way. They’re impotent “Agaris bellowed silently in anger. “What good is that if I am shuttered away in your void!” he demanded. “A God is no God if he cannot rule!” The chuckling continued. “Oh, Agaris,” it said. “Do not fret so. Your prison is not absolute.” Agaris paused. “I can free myself?” he demanded. “No, I doubt it,” Decay replied through the void. “But, if you are clever, you will find a way to contact your world, to influence its people.” “I can touch the world?” Agaris asked slowly. “Well, not the world itself. But you can touch the minds of those who dwell therein,” Decay replied. Agaris was always the more clever one. He couldn’t directly shape the world he wanted, but he could appear to people and guide them. Vae annitor was built around his Shardpool. The religion was about him. The city was covered with artwork of him. And he was still going to get to wipe out his brothers Aethers. All while trapped in a pool

He could’ve went free if he wanted.. but the only other people who were bonding Night were the Dari, who were Agaris’ pawns. Makkal sensed a “taint” in them so he never left when any of them bonded it. I thought that was common knowledge Macen I have read White Sand and Aether of Night, and I don't know why they're not published because I loved both of them. Brandon Sanderson Aether is not published because I feel that I wrote two different books and didn't blend them together very well. There is the kind of farcical, Shakespearean, switched places, silliness, and it's fun, but it's like a mistaken identity almost sort of stuff and romance and things like that mixed with these dark things are coming out of the shard pool and destroying the world. And those two stories never meshed together well enough for me to want to publish them. Words of Radiance Omaha signing (March 13, 2014) Probably XD

once they get to where no one is thinking about(probably deep space) distance is contracted and you can walk light years in steps(a few steps in the CR would amount to light years in the PR) Questioner So like as far as distance traveled in Shadesmar. So when Kelsier is in Shadesmar, he meets the Ire, who are presumably Elantrians. How far did he travel? Is that still within Scadrial's realm of the Cognitive Realm? Brandon Sanderson Yeah, that's within-- By the time he meets them he has slipped right to the edge of the Cognitive Realm on Scadrial and into, kind of, the darkness between planets. Questioner Okay. Brandon Sanderson He's close enough that he can get there. But he's kind of suffused with Scadrian Investiture then, to a point that it would be harder--you saw in there--for him to get further. I would say that he's like... He has entered space between planets, but he's not out of the solar system. Questioner Okay, so he's still in the Scadrian system, just not--just edging a bit there. Brandon Sanderson Yeah, yep. That's what I'd say if I had to actually point him in that <a map>. It gets really fuzzy though, because it wouldn't be too much longer before he enters another solar system. Like, he would pass lightyears in steps as he starts getting further, if that makes any sense. Questioner That makes sense, because, I mean, with worldhopping in general it's like... You can only... I mean it's... I don't know how the time dilation works per se, but... Brandon Sanderson It's not-- there's not much time dilation. What you've got going on is... Things that people aren't around to think about, things without minds or any sort of life, don't manifest on Shadesmar very much at all. And so the space between planets gets really small, unless there's another planet out there with thinking beings or at least some sort of life on it. Like even lower lifeforms, you'll get something manifesting on Shadesmar. But yeah Questioner Okay. So the Cognitive Realm, in Shadesmar... It's kind of the... Any kind of sentient or cognitive life-- that's what is building Shadesmar? So like anything where there's blackness... is like... condensed or-- Brandon Sanderson Yes, yes. Particularly if no one's thinking about it. If people are thinking about it - like, for instance, an island in the ocean that was scoured of all life and even bacteria would still manifest in Shadesmar on that planet because people are aware of it and things like this. But one on the other side of the planet, that no one ever knew about it, probably wouldn't. Questioner So that same island, if people just stopped thinking about it or like stopped being aware of its presence, would it... Brandon Sanderson It could slowly vanish, yes. And so-- But that's more of a thought experiment. You're never gonna have a planet that that happens to, you know cause-- but thought experiment wise, yes, that would eventually kind of get consumed by Shadesmar and vanish. The same thing would happen to a planet that you strip the atmosphere from--all the bacteria and life dies on it--you know, slowly going to vanish. But a moon will still manifest because people are thinking about it. It'll just not-- it won't-- it'll be hokey, it'll be weird--the moon will be. Like you might find a little patch that represents the moon. Something like that. Questioner That's interesting. Brandon Sanderson You're not gonna find the full landscape of the moon until people start visiting it. And it's gonna grow on Shadesmar. White Sand vol.1 release party (June 28, 2016)

i had the same problem. i didnt start to really get into it till the last third or so of the book. i didnt start Hero of Ages for like 6 months afterwards because i convinced myself it would just drag on like in WoA

do windrunners have access to spiritual adhesion like bondsmiths
Eternal Khol replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
im pretty certain its just Bondsmiths. quote from Stormfather in OB: "but do not look towards the powers of others, even those who share your surges." and "Yours is the power Ishar once held. Before he was Herald of Luck, they called him Binder of Gods. He was the founder of the Oathpact. No Radiant is capable of more than you. yours is the power of Connection, of joining men and worlds, minds and souls.Your surges are the greatest of all" in the first quote he could have been talking about the other bondsmiths with Spiritual Adhesion but i think he was referring to Adhesion in general based on the fact that Dalinar is the only bondsmith when stormfather said that -

Where exactly is Cultivation's perpendicularity?
Eternal Khol replied to Oltux72's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well her perpendicularity is in the lakes on top of the mountains which should be land in shadesmar. It would just be surrounded by a sea of beads. someone who can make use of Mandra or Manifest souls wouldn’t have a problem getting to it -
Thats what i was basing my theory off of

the Heralds are supoosed to be the focus of the second stormlight series(books 6-10 A.K.A "the back five") and have flashbacks of them during those books. i think thats what he meant the-kings-wit One thing that I'm slightly confused about is who the primary POVs will be for the second set of 5 books in the 10-book series. I've heard a bunch of names being floated around on various online forums--such as Jasnah, Renarin, and Taravangian to name a few--but are any of these confirmed? Any word of Brandon as of yet? Brandon Sanderson It's possible this will change. But the back five have been planned as Jasnah, Renarin, Lift, Taln, and Ash. Though, once again, this isn't a promise that these people survive. You'll likely see at least one flashback set in the series from a character who has died in a previous book, and then you get to see something they experienced through flashbacks before their death. Footnote: The Ash that Brandon is referring to here is the Herald also known as Shalash. Stormlight Three Update #1 (Sept. 12, 2015)

or maybe the Dor can interact with the SR and still be stuck in the CR Kinda like how something in a cage can still interact with what's outside even though it's stuck where it it. As long as the power isn't being directed back to the SR it should be able to interact with it in some ways right The dor is the most confusing thing ever as for the cognitive aspect, I have no idea
