  1. Isnt that only with living blades? in WoK, kaladin tells rocks that Alethkar has “dozens of sets” if shard
  2. I had thought that the mind was considered part of a Shard's power. From brandon: Preservation never had any splinters and his mind was almost nothing. wouldn't that count as reduced?
  3. thats true. sometimes. some spren are almost entirely in the Cognitive while some are almost entirely in the Physical. Windspren are pretty much physical. theyre rarely seen in shadesmar Preservation did not use his Power to make Ruins prison. he used his mind. thats why he was like he was. he barely had a mind left
  4. Seeing that Breath provides Physical enhancements, id be willing to bet that the breath would just meld to the spren’s Identity like a regular person and let the spren manifest more fully in the Physical Realm. Letting them stay smart and become a shardblade without forming a bond. Eliminating the chance of the spren dying by human fault
  5. Rashek wasnt around when Leras made his plan either. the well took 1024 years to fill up. thats at least 1000 years before Rashek was born that Leras made his plan Rashek may have held the power but he WAS NOT Preservsation. by that, i mean Rashek would have made an awful Preservation. he'd most likely have the same problems that Kelsier did(not being able to wield the power properly) handling the power of the well is one thing. handling the whole power of a shard is a whole different category Leras would begin his search for a new host exactly 16 years before the Well of Ascension would be full again there were multiple people who were supposed to take up the Power and become Preservation. but just like with Vin, Ruin meddled and crushed those opportunities(Alendi was supposed to be Preservation then Ruin Meddled and Rashek ended up taking up the Power at the Well). as to why Leras chose Vin. We dont really know. the WoB below indicates that even after Ascending, Sazed didnt even know the reason maybe Leras was just was just looking for someone nicely attuned to the power. but the fact that both Alendi and Vin were allomancers cant be a coincidence. Brandon Sanderson Chapter Seventy-Nine The Mists Chose Someone There's a lot more going on behind the scenes than even the author of these epigraphs knows. Reasons why Vin was chosen, and why the power of Preservation needed a new mind to control it. The author is right in that Preservation did need someone to control its power, and it did seek for a host in which to invest itself. It began this search with what mind it had left about sixteen years before the return of the power to the Well of Ascension, just as it began a search for a new host before the return of the power the previous time. Unfortunately, just as Ruin took control and manipulated Alendi, he took control and manipulated Vin. The Hero of Ages Annotations (May 13, 2010)
  6. when a shard does anything with their power in the cognitive or physical, I think another shard has the opportunity to splinter off that power. I think the whole “I push and you push back” thing between Ruin and Preservation applies to all Shards. Cultivation can’t push too hard to kill Odium otherwise they’d both end up dead. but If Cultivation waited until Odium was using a lot of his power to do something, then Cultivation could use that opening to finally shatter Odium. Because Odium was already using his power elsewhere, he wouldn’t be able to use as much to push back against Cultivation because even though their power is infinite, how much they could put to use is limited. heres an example.(quote from Stormfather in OB) ”I could have been destroyed, though. Splintered into a thousand pieces. I live only because the enemy fears exposing himself to a strike from Cultivation.” to me it just seems that shattering a Shard is just watching and waiting to see what they choose to do with their power and looking for the correct place to strike. like..... identifying and removing the linchpin spike on an inquisitor ... only a million times harder imagine shattering a Shard like... if all of our organs started acting independently, free from what the brain was telling them. everything is still there and is (essentially)functional. It’s just the connection to the master hub(the brain) that gets cut off. The way I see it is, you don’t need to destroy all the hardware. You just need to destroy the cables that connects everything you cant destroy that matter or power but you can sever those Connections holding it all together
  7. It works. but not the Shardblade part. when gases go from high density to low density they get cold. an example would be a Co2 Cartridge that gets cold and frosty as it is being drained. when someone uses a lashing on something, the stormlight in them is going from a high concentration to a lower concentration and that could make the dew/frost. Or even just the stormlight leaking from them could do it, if they were holding enough
  8. Questioner Why does Stormlight make things cold? Brandon Sanderson It’s not the Stormlight, it’s condensation because something is going directly from a gas into a solid. The coldness is caused by that, it’s not necessarily that the Stormlight is making things cold, but that the Shardblade is condensing. Boskone 54 (Feb. 17, 2017)
  9. It’s not coming out of his flute it’s just next to it. its the Drominad Symbol
  10. Maybe they’re not crazy. but I do think they’re twisted singers or fused the way they become the Stone is described like a Spren getting trapped in a gemheart. along with this quote “Among the waiting spirits were two larger masses of energy—souls so warped, so mangled, they didn’t seem singer at all.” Venli’s train of thought seems like “These poor things have been twisted so much they don’t even look like us anymore”
  11. I think The Lost Metal is supposed to see a 2021 release
  12. Dragonsteel Prime and Liar of Partinel. Set on Yolen, Hoid’s Homeworld
  13. It also gives us a clue as to what Hoid’s flute does. @Gavtyven the rabbit/fox could be Fainlife? “Midius froze. Something was standing in front of him on the road. It looked somewhat like a stag, though the legs were too long, and there were six of them. A head set with glistening pink eyes watched him. It had no visible mouth. And its body was a pure white. Fain.
  14. mine are Ashe - light, Illumination Eshe - Gift, Endowment
  15. Yeah, Its hoid. Questioner Broadsheets of Bands of Mourning. The story that Allomancer Jak's sidekick... in it, there's this <part>, "After disembarking the the lift, I walked to the location where my foe would have hit the ground. I found no trace of him, and though no one witnessed his fall, a young white-haired man was there and offered to tell me a story. I declined." Is that Hoid? Brandon Sanderson So, there's a reference to a young white-haired man offering to tell a story. Whenever those words combine together, chances are very, very good that Hoid is involved. Yes, that is Hoid, but one thing I have to tell you is, not everything in that story... you are getting a story which was written by somebody, and then turned into a thing for a broadsheet. So, there have been some inaccuracies perpetuated in the broadsheets. So, yes, that's where that came from. Arcanum Unbounded release party (Nov. 22, 2016)
  16. Maybe its not every form but its certainly not just mateform thats capable of producing RenegadeShroom You said earlier that Parshendi are primarily asexual, does that extend to all Listeners -- parshmen, and those descended from Listeners, like Horneaters and Herdazians -- or is it just the Parshendi? Brandon Sanderson Most Listener forms are asexual, but several forms are different, including slaveform. Horneaters and Herdazians are not, as a rule, though there are higher instances of asexuality among them. uchoo786 I was actually wondering about how Parshmen would reproduce if they are only in slaveform? I thought one had to be in mateform in order to reproduce? Also, could Horneaters and Herdazians change forms as well? Brandon Sanderson For the first, mateform is not the only form capable of producing--any more than warform is the only one capable of swinging a sword. The forms are specializations. For the second, RAFO. /r/books AMA 2015 (May 19, 2015)
  17. Age doesnt determine your status. Power does. They were "created" with(probably) similar power levels but at different times. Whats so odd about that? A singer in any form could have a kid. Mateform is just a specialization.
  18. i was thinking maybe the device they used to locate the Aviar is an amped-up Alerter Fabrial from Roshar
  19. One interaction isn't enough to go on. Lift's abilities to covert mass into investiture and being partially in the Cognitive are a hint of what Cultivation's magic actually is. I seriously doubt all of her magic is Boon and Bane
  20. i think thunderclasts are Fused that have gone crazy. like beyond crazy. and now instead of inhabiting a Singer they use Stone we know that some of the Fused are crazy and still use Singer bodies but maybe once they pass a certain threshold of craziness, Odium twists them even further to be able to inhabit stone
  21. damnation. i forgot about that WoB
  22. i think he was talking about Returned in that first quote and how they can use any investiture to stay alive and if they dont they end up consuming their own soul and die of course they are. everything in the SR is investiture. that includes Connections
  23. Im pretty sure it was confirmed
  24. There's a few spren on Scadrial
  25. "The betrayal of spren has brought us here. / They gave their Surges to human heirs, / But not to those who know them most dear, before us." this one is relevant too
