  1. theres a good number of spren that are almost entirely Physical and are rarely seen in the CR(windspren) the Stormstriders(the big glowing ones in the Highstorm) could also be almost entirely physical thats just semantics
  2. is this confirmed?
  3. well, Feruchemy is of Ruin and Preservation. all the selish magics(over a dozen) draw power from the Dor, which is the combined remnants of Dominion and Devotion. plus Surgebinding which is H+C so at least 14 from the shards we know, right now. not really. Agate I can guess two possible options for the kandra. 1. God Sazed endowed the gift of presence on the now mistwraiths. 2. Some of the kandra survived in the cave with the Terrisman and people of the city, along with the small mistwraiths, these are re-born with the spikes they pulled out during the resolution. I can imagine too that some kandra on assignment may have hidden in the shelters with the rest of humanity. Brandon Sanderson The kandra. Yes, they live. The people were smart enough, eventually, to replace their spikes. (And there were a couple who were on assignment who made it to storage caches.) However, there will likely never be any more of them, since Hemalurgy is required to make them. They are now some of the few people who can communicate directly with Sazed, who—like Ruin—can whisper to people most easily when they are connected to him via spikes. With some speculation, you can probably guess what kind of roles the kandra will end up playing in future books. Kaimipono On a broader level, is Hemalurgy officially dead, then? Or is it still extant in some Ruin-free (but still messy) form? (If it's gone, is there any imbalance since Preservation's magic power is kept and Ruin's isn't?) Brandon Sanderson Is Hemalurgy dead? No, not at all. It, like the other two powers, was not created by Ruin or Preservation, but by the natural state of the world and its interaction with the gods who created it. It still requires the same method of creation, but very few people are aware of how it works. Hero of Ages Q&A - Time Waster's Guide (Oct. 15, 2008) Argent (paraphrased) Feruchemy is the "balance" between Ruin and Preservation. Would any combination of Shards create a "balance" magic, so to speak, or are only certain Shards compatible? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Feruchemy ended up being a balance system, because of how polar Ruin and Preservation were. Any world with at least two Shards will result in a similar phenomenon. Argent (paraphrased) Like Roshar? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Like Roshar. There is something like that going on there. Steelheart Chicago signing (Oct. 5, 2013)
  4. Well, itll be about a 1-1.5 years before The Lost Metal is released. Plus 3-3.5 years to write and publish SA 5 so 2025 at the earliest will be when he can write it, but he also has the Elantris sequels and Mistborn era 3 planned to be written around the same time, so it might be 2026 or so depending on what he decides to write first. there also a chance it might not be written until after SA 6 which would make it at least 10 more years
  5. i found a couple of them in some WoB's "In order to write Mistborn the way I did, I also had to rely on the archetypes. My characters, for example, were very archetypal: The street urchin. The clever rogue who robs to do good. The idealistic young nobleman who wants to change the world." "Two big influences for Kelsier. The first is, I wanted to do kind of the classic rogue archetype guy, but someone who had had something so fundamentally life-shaking in his life that he had to look deep within and become somebody else
  6. nope. but its only a few decades off from his real name. Questioner 1 In The Way of Kings, when Hoid is talking to Kaladin and he says his name is Hoid, he said that he took the name from someone else. Brandon Sanderson He did. Questioner 1 So why is he Hoid in everything else? Brandon Sanderson Hoid is not his original name. Questioner 1 So... Questioner 2 Does he still go by his original name ever? Brandon Sanderson I don't know if you've ever seen his original name. Questioner 2 I've read your Master's thesis [Dragonsteel Prime]. Brandon Sanderson Oh, he doesn't go by the name that is in there very often but there are people who know him by that name. Questioner 1 What is his original name? Brandon Sanderson Well he's assuming that the name he is using in there is actually his original name. He's using the name Cephandrius. Which you're assuming is his original. Questioner 2 Closer to the truth than Hoid is. Brandon Sanderson It is closer to the truth... Questioner 2 Cephandrius is closer to his original name than Hoid, it's an earlier alias. Brandon Sanderson Well Hoid was one of his very first aliases. Questioner 2 So I stand corrected. Brandon Sanderson But, Cephandrius is more him. Questioner 2 Does he still go by his nickname he got. Brandon Sanderson To some people, Topaz. Peter Ahlstrom Cephandrius Maxtori. Shadows of Self release party (Oct. 5, 2015)
  7. im aware i used that WoB because it was the most detailed, while still mentioning Scadrial, and didnt have a big pile of RAFO like all the others "They're mostly... where you've seen them, is on Scadrial so far"
  8. definitely a Rioter the Physical metals are all too flashy for me. id like to be able manipulate people from the background like how Breeze and Allrianne could.
  9. relevant WoB on them thats about as detailed as Brandon has been on the Subject
  10. they're a very cosmere aware group of Elantrians. they have people on Scadrial(everyone is SH), Threnody(mentioned in SH) and Roshar(the lighthouse keeper in Shadesmar in Oathbringer). we dont know any of their goals, other than the fact that they wanted one of their own to Ascend to Preservation during the Events of SH They're mostly... where you've seen them, is on Scadrial so far Questioner Why did the Elantrians came to Roshar in the first place? Because the question came up after I reread Elantris, so... Brandon Sanderson Are you talking about... specifically... the old ones? Yeah, why were they on Roshar? So, those specific individuals - the Ire, as we call them - are a group of Elantrians that are not representing all Elantrians. They were there. The one you've met is there for a specific reason. The Ire are involved there. They're mostly... where you've seen them, is on Scadrial so far, but they're interested in Roshar. You are talking about the lighthouse keeper, I assume? So, the lighthouse keeper, wouldn't... would be counted, I guess, as one of the Ire and is there for a specific purpose, but it is not related to their general purpose, that they're trying to achieve. How's that for being vague? I'm sorry. ICon 2019 (Oct. 15, 2019) They're mostly... where you've seen them, is on Scadrial so far
  11. some relevant WoB below the second and third WoB i quoted kinda support this when burning metals, the metals act as a key to the power(which lies in the SR) one of the WoB state that Atium doesnt work like that, the Atium is itself the power source. which suggests that the power isnt in the SR. Right? Lance Alvein (paraphrased) You've said that "The Pits of Hathsin were crafted by Preservation as a place to hide the chunk of Ruin's body that he had stolen away". How does one Shard steal a portion of another Shard and create a Physical outlet for it, like the Pits were for Ruin's power? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) It has to do with clash between the two Shards' power. When pressed, he then said that it was "kind of" like splintering Hal-Con 2012 (Oct. 30, 2012) Brandon Sanderson Atium's Mechanism Atium is, indeed, different from the other metals. When you burn most Allomantic metals, it opens a conduit through which you can draw upon Preservation's power and use it in very specific ways. Atium doesn't do that. Atium is, itself, a fuel. When you burn it, the metal itself provides the power. A subtle distinction, I know, but it has to do with where the power is coming from. Most Allomancy is fueled by Preservation, but atium and malatium are fueled by Ruin. This metal doesn't quite belong on the table where it has been placed. The Hero of Ages Annotations (April 1, 2010) Kaimipono Allomancy is fueled by Preservation's body? How exactly does that work? And how does that interact with Atium—it's fueled by both gods' bodies? Brandon Sanderson The powers of Ruin and Preservation are Shards of Adonalsium, pieces of the power of creation itself. Allomancy, Hemalurgy, Feruchemy are manifestations of this power in mortal form, the ability to touch the powers of creation and use them. These metallic powers are how people's physical forms interpret the use of the Shard, though it's not the only possible way they could be interpreted or used. It's what the genetics and Realmatic interactions of Scadrial allow for, and has to do with the Spiritual, the Cognitive, and the Physical Realms. Condensed 'essence' of these godly powers can act as super-fuel for Allomancy, Feruchemy, or really any of the powers. The form of that super fuel is important. In liquid form it's most potent, in gas form it's able to fuel Allomancy as if working as a metal. In physical form it is rigid and does one specific thing. In the case of atium, it allows sight into the future. In the case of concentrated Preservation, it gives one a permanent connection to the mists and the powers of creation. (I.e., it makes them an Allomancer.) So when a person is burning metals, they aren't using Preservation's body as a fuel so to speak—though they are tapping into the powers of creation just slightly. When Vin burns the mists, however, she'd doing just that—using the essence of Preservation, the Shard of Adonalsium itself—to fuel Allomancy. Doing this, however, rips 'troughs' through her body. It's like forcing far too much pressure through a very small, fragile hose. That much power eventually vaporizes the corporeal host, which is acting as the block and forcing the power into a single type of conduit (Allomancy) and frees it to be more expansive. Hero of Ages Q&A - Time Waster's Guide (Oct. 15, 2008)
  12. we probably wont get it until Stormlight 5 and The Lost Metal are released.i think brandon said he plans on a early 2022 release for The Lost Metal. It takes Brandon 3 years, minimum, to write a SA novel so, optimistically, it'll probably 2026-2027 at the earliest, that he starts writing it(assuming he doesnt do Elantris sequel or anything else first) Brandon Sanderson Updates on Secondary Projects Elantris, Warbreaker, Rithmatist No updates from last year, I'm afraid. There was no intention to make progress on these this year. Once Alcatraz is wrapped up, I'll turn my attention back to The Rithmatist as the last looming series that needs a wrap-up that hasn't gotten one. Elantris and Warbreaker sequels aren't to be expected until Stormlight Five and Wax and Wayne Four are done. Status: Keep waiting. (Sorry again.) State of the Sanderson 2018 (Dec. 19, 2018)
  13. you can go to Bradonsanderson.com and send him a message at the bottom of the page.(contact tab in dropdown menu on Mobile) or alternatively, you can send him a message on his reddit r/Mistborn
  14. literally almost any spren you see is a splinter of Honor. theyre not that hard to find he was still a spren, which were still presumably splinters before the Shattering. also, even before the Shattering, investiture was Associated with certain Shards(even though they didnt exist yet) so Stormfather should still have been a splinter of Honor, even though Adonalsium created him.
  15. Autonomy isn't splintered, but she has splinters is the Shard itself was splintered it would be hard for those splinters to go to another planet. but since she is alive, she can choose to make splinters on certain planets. hence the Avatars on Taldain(sand lord), First of the sun(patji), obrodai(unknown), and presumably scadrial(trell?)
  16. because there was a pretty big interplanetary trade through Scadrial, using the Pits. people who are alive and making the journey, would need a boat to get through the Cognitive Realm there, otherwise they'd just sink through the mists
  17. well, Cultivation talks to lots of people and even if she didnt im sure she'd notice Nightbloods arrival to Roshar. she probably also talks to her daughter a lot, and couldve told her about Nightblood
  18. the way i see it is. taln himself is a herald. one of the "ten burdens" has been his since the beginning , so it doesnt count. the other 9 heralds left him so he had to experience the torture he was already going through, plus the other 9 heralds
  19. perfect example. had me dying when i saw that XD now you have me imagining that the NW just has a huge cave full of junk that she gives to people when asked XD "come child, follow me to my cave of wonders and we shall see what awaits you"
  20. as far as we know, you need to at least be born in MaiPon to become/be a forger but we dont know anything else Stelios Moudakis Can Forgery be used to rewrite a person's Spiritweb? Brandon Sanderson That's basically what Forgery always does. General Twitter 2016 (April 30, 2016) Questioner If you Soulstamp somebody to give them a Connection to Arelon, and they became an Elantrian, could they become and Elantrian, and if the Soulstamp is removed, would they remain? Brandon Sanderson Okay, so you're asking a better one than people have asked. So you say "You get Soulstamped, you move to Arelon, your soul thinks that it is this, you do have spiritweb of Connection" I will go ahead and RAFO this with the caveat of why it might not work, is because, you might think you’re something, right? That doesn't necessarily mean-- Like, this is not completely invisible and things like this. And so, whether the power is going to follow those lines of Connection or not I will leave up to discussion, but it is a possibility worth theorizing upon. Questioner So a Soulstamp doesn't necessarily change the core of your spiritweb. Brandon Sanderson It does, but it's overwriting it. It's like Hemalurgy. What you are is still there underneath when it's ripped away, right? Arcanum Unbounded Chicago signing (Dec. 6, 2016)
  21. i kinda like this theory, but i dont think the Nightwatcher would give the same boon/bane twice. i dont think she ever had it. she just knew it was on Roshar and was something she was capable of granting to someone
  22. alloying any of the 16 with lerasium and then burning it would make you a misting of that Metal so, a alloy of Lerasium and Steel would make you a coinshot misting and brandon hasnt really canonized what the Atium alloys do yet Questioner Have you thought about what all the Atium alloys do? Brandon Sanderson Yes, but I have not canonized most of them. Even in my notes. Barnes & Noble B-Fest 2016 (June 11, 2016)
  23. Ive done these for Aether of Night and Way of Kings Prime and figured id do Mythwalker as well. Its a unfinished novel but it has a decent chunk written, so I decided to do an analysis anyway.
