  1. I, personally, think Mistborn Prime is way better quality than Dragonsteel Prime. Anytime i read any of it, i cant help but feel that it was written by someone not yet out of highschool like, just the very sentence structure is sooo base. Its like brandon just finished his highschool English class and then wrote this novel. by that, i mean.... Theres nothing special about this novel. Any young adult who attended school, could write this. The problem is that while in school, we only learn such a small percentage of any given area of study. And some of what they do teach us, is incorrect/simplified, so when we approach the subject when were older, they’re like “hey you remember when we taught you this? Well... thats not actually hows its done, thats just how kids do it” and at the time of writing Dragonsteel, Brandon never really got to the “hey, this is actually how its done” phase of writing, and it shows a lot throughout the novel. Mistborn Prime is a lot closer to Elantris level quality in my opinion. Grammatically, Dragonsteel Prime is far worse, but just a smidge better, Story wise. worldbuilding award goes to MB Prime
  2. I really hope that he doesn’t plan on releasing Aether and White Sand Prose before Dragonsteel and everything else. AoN and White sand are basically publicly available as is. He should do the ones with less readership first so it’ll probably be about 10 years until Dragonsteel Prime is released(assuming he does Aon and White Sand first) 12-15 years for Mistborn/Final Empire Prime I know brandon is super busy, but like, why do all of his good upcoming novels(un/published) have to be a decade or more away? This WoB is from this year: “Yeah. Response to Way of Kings Primewas strong enough that I would at least like to release in hardcover form the ‘good ones.’ The good books from A Sanderson Curiosities are White is Sand, Aether of Night, and Dragonsteel. They are all of an equivalent quality, as in slightly worse than Elantris. Maybe significantly worse, but of a similar sort of problems. They are all good enough books that I don’t think you’ll waste your time reading them. They are just not good enough books that I’d want to mass release them. “So I would imagine we do one of these per Stormlight Kickstarter. The Stormlight Archive books are just a big enough thing and require big enough funds and things, that we’ll probably continue to do one of those every three years.” “After that, we go down another jump in quality. We have Mistborn Prime and Final Empire Prime, which are probably the next two in quality, where they aren’t bad books, I think they’re readable, but they’re a further step away from what ended up being my vision…then after that we have another big dip in quality. You get things like Star’s End, which was my second novel. You get things like Knight Life…”
  3. He’s his soul is connected with Sylphrenas. She’s connected/cousins with Windspren, therefore its kinda like Kal’s cousin’s with Windspren(which Is probably kinda different for spren) maybe hes able to manipulate them somehow, because of that
  4. You can also go to Brandons website and email brandon and ask for Mistborn Prime
  5. I think that it's a stride for a cremling. That flew right by me. good point! now the question is, what is this grand temple? i doubt Urithiru, maybe someplace in Aimia totally random thought, but what if the sleepless have had the Dawnshard/s the whole time? And they are big fabrials that they studied and that’s how they got so good at fabrial science and why “you went to Aimia to get a soulcaster” plus they’re immortal and not likely to forget the sciences, compared to the fractured humans after every desolation. it could just be that because they’re immortal, theyve had time to study fabrials and get good at it, no Dawnshards involved. but i like to think theyve had and extensively studied a dawnshard
  6. Like the title says, what will we actually learn about the Dawnshards from the Novella? from a WoB in January, brandon says that we’ll learn about the history and current lore of Aimia and some “other interesting things”(aka dawnshards) its pretty early into the series and i don’t expect well actually see a Dawnshard this early. but i do think that we will learn about the Scouring of Aimia and some other details thatll lets us/main characters, see the effects of a Dawnshard(if indeed one was used there) and discuss what had happened. or maybe we will just get some outright details on them(from a sleepless or something) which i think is less likely given their protective nature of the place. Some random Dawnshard thoughts: Brandon has said we have “technically seen evidence of a dawnshard” and that it was a “yes/no” when asked if we've seen one. So im assuming the “evidence” is something like the big soulcast walls around Aimia or what Shattered the Plains, or even some strange rock formations like the windblades and the yes/no, on if weve seen one, im assuming that we probably did see one or get a reference to it but its no longer in the form it used to be in, so we wouldn’t recognize it. we also know that “one is different from all the rest” it could be the one thats no longer in the same form
  7. What i dont get is if the steps were made for the Heralds, why are they ten strides tall? or is the “ten strides” not literal and is supposed to be more metaphorical? The number ten has relevance on Roshar so maybe they were just trying to fit that in there? Or show that it was related to the heralds or radiants or something?
  8. She didn’t even know whether she was the one to kill Ialai or not, that doesn seem a whole lot better to me
  9. its not “Allomancy” any more than the aviar on First of The Sun are using “Allomancy” to hide peoples thoughts. There’s just certain natural pathways that exist and make it possible.(and those pathways Also exist on different planets) its not that much of a shock, that some of the same mechanics pervade the Cosmere. Leras didnt just go “haha, im just randomly gonna make a magic system with metals as the key and provide different powers” he had to already know that Allomancy was one of the possibilities, in which his magic could manifest(Allomancy isnt the only way Preservations power could’ve manifested on Scadrial) and that those metals would have cosmere wide interactions so the fabrial metals doing different Allomancy-like things and coppercloud-like Aviar aren’t based off Allomancy. Meaning someone didnt go “oh i like that ability to hide investiture pulses in Allomancy, i think ill put that in a chicken” Allomancy was just one of many possible magics, Preservation could’ve had on Scadrial. Anytime we see something like Allomancy, it doesn't mean it is Allomancy. Allomancy is based off pretty much the same interactions that Coppercloud aviar and Fabrial zinc and brass have. in other words, the latter aren’t based off the former. All 3(allomancy, aviar, and fabrial metals) are just an outgrowth of the (almost) same cosmere-wide interactions, but each planet probably has its own little tweaks due to different interactions Thats just what we’ve seen Roshar and Scadrial do. there could be planets with different realmatic interactions, that do something along the lines of Feruchemy Or it could not involve metal at all.
  10. I I dont think so. but there is a chance that there might be effects, right? Similar to how if you saw Tanavast on Roshar today, he’d have double pupils But any effects would probably far less pronounced Mason Wheeler Double Eye of the Almighty, is that just symbolism or does Tanavast have weird pupils? Brandon Sanderson That is symbolism. But if you were to see Tanavast and you were on Roshar, he would manifest with weird pupils at that point. Mason Wheeler Reflection of how people believe? Brandon Sanderson Yeah. But the actual Tanavast before, he did not have weird pupils. Starsight Release Party (Nov. 26, 2019)
  11. For all we know it might be native to the PR and got pulled into the CR. though it’s obsidian black look is very reminiscent of the ground in Shadesmar
  12. I think you mean Spiritual
  13. Went chapter-by-chapter in MS Word doing word count. it wasnt as bad as it seems. The way Brandon wrote the novel, it was almost always one view point per chapter(until the end) so, most of the time, i could just quickly highlight the whole chapter and get the word count instead of having to go slowly and keep an eye out for every PoV transition
  14. How does wanting the right of self governance/freedom from outside influence sound genocidal? I bet some of them do. Josh Do Splinters have their own Intent, in addition to the Shards'? Brandon Sanderson Splinters often have their own intent. West Jordan signing (Aug. 4, 2011)
  15. a little tidbit on her perspective Brandon Sanderson To break up Unity. It's so hard to say, because Autonomy is a bit of a strange duck. Like, what counts as being Autonomous? Is absorbing everything and becoming one again Autonomous or not? That's kind of your question that you get into. And the way Autonomy looks at it right now, is no. Autonomy wants to remain Autonomy. Autonomy does not want to be corrupted by anything else. And Autonomy would think the Shards are better on their own.
  16. there didnt just so happen to be 10 gas giants. im sure Uncle Ado set that up knowing full well, what would happen. those planets would become integral to the magic system i feel like they are super important in soulcasting
  17. Jofwu The ten gas giants, are they associated in any way with the Essences, the Heralds or the Knights Radiant other than culturally? Brandon Sanderson Only culturally. Skyward Atlanta signing (Nov. 17, 2018)
  18. Isaac Stewart The symbolism [of the Threnody symbol] here has a lot to do with the star system. The three rules, right? I'm not gonna spill it out here. There's the three rules. So, each of these symbols has something to do with the three rules, and also different things that are found in the sky. I'll give you one of them. The eye is the sign of Purity. And then, I'd might as well. This is silver. This stands for "Do not run." And this one is the blood. Which, there are stars in the sky that are red there, so that's the star. Arcanum Unbounded release party (Nov. 22, 2016)
  19. it might not be Arclo, but i think its definitely a horedling
  20. maybe not acutally. this WoB is for soulstamps, but i figure they're close enough, that this probably applies to ReSealing as well Questioner Is soulstamping a form of corrupted Investiture? Brandon Sanderson Not in most instances, but it is possible to make it such. Starsight Release Party (Nov. 26, 2019)
  21. If that WoB is right(that half the Shards are whole). There should only be 1(maybe two more) Shards that are Splintered, or have splinters my guess is the Aether planet
  22. is it one of the Shards we dont know?
  23. i think he just has some terms and symbols copyrighted. the terms Mistborn, Dragonsteel, Cosmere, The stormlight archive, and most of the symbols throughout the books are also copyright. but anything else should be fare game. well, its not like the idea of 3 realms, is unique to brandon. you could use that if you wanted(given you add your own twists) even a massive storm. Brandon pretty much just took a hurricane and made them magical and more common(im sure you could think of something like that)
  24. its more the visualization that went into the command, that really shaped his personality. the command is usually more of a general guideline, thats further defined by the intent/visualization you can give 2 identical swords the same command(destroy evil) but with different visualization, the end product could be drastically different. so that would mean that Nightblood has, Endowment, Ruin, Honor, and probably cultivation’s investiture stored.
  25. I would love the same concept in The Stormlight Archive. a piece of Living Night that has gained sentience, and wants tries to be human it could work. Midnight Essence can be extracted and used independently of Re Shephir. it imitates what it see’s around it(make it humans) and far as we know, the midnight essence creations dont lose mass unless hurt. maybe stick some breath in it or do some other tweaks, and you have a new Ix dvoraen In the Midnight Essence vision Dalinar has in The Way of Kings, the female Radiant was wondering "who released it". Shouldn't the Radiants have known then that it was Re-Shephir that was the general source of Midnight Essence? Brandon Sanderson Yes, but Midnight Essence can be extracted and used independently. Skyward Pre-Release AMA (Oct. 22, 2018) BeskarKomrk It’s fairly heavily implied in the Stormlight books that there’s some sort of correspondence between the Chasmfiends and the Thunderclasts. They’re described very similarly and... I was wondering if there’s a similar sort of correspondence, possibly, between the Whitespines and the Midnight Essences? Brandon Sanderson Uh... yes, yes. More tenuous, but yes. BeskarKomrk But kind of similar? Brandon Sanderson Yeah. The Midnight Essence generally imitates what it sees around it. Boskone 54 (Feb. 17, 2017)
