  1. To sum it up “by this point rational people want to move on.” - Leras I imagine even more so for Ati after going through all he did. imagine how tired TLR mustve been after a thousand years of Rule and unknown(?) torment by Ruin. he’d want to leave at that point. He didnt want to stay “With an impotent mouse and a half-blooded rat” Now imagine Ati after thousands of years more and the whole time spent fighting against his Shards Intent, trying to “control” it, and eventually just losing himsef to Ruin. They were an awful pairing and i think Ruin broke him
  2. My trainer code is 6876 4902 6914 It would be great if you guys added me. I need “3 new friends” for a research event lol @Lunamor @The Sovereign i sent a request to both of you.
  3. Heres the WoB on it Brandon Sanderson Axies the Collector would probably be fine. We would just have a chat. But bad luck follows him because of the Curse of Kind, so maybe not. Maybe I wouldn't want to be around Axies the Collector, he is channeling the wrong kind of Fortune. Channeling is not an actual term - don't take that and put it in the wiki. YouTube Livestream 6 (April 23, 2020)
  4. Thats what ive been thinking ive just been labeling them “good/bad luck” for ease Ive been using “good/bad” because the Siah just appear to have bad luck and Brandon says that they’re accessing the “wrong kind of fortune” Hence, normal Fortune usage usually leads to “good luck” as people in-world would call it, and what Axies does, access’ the wrong kind of fortune or “bad luck” as they would say im not saying that I think fortune is just luck. A few days ago,if you scroll up, thats just what my whole spiel was about. How Fortune works by using the Spiritual Realm and Spiritwebs and different possibilities and stuff like that
  5. i assume you’re referring specifically to the Everstorm? Correct? yes, most of these are connected, but not directly more like how two link on opposite sides of a chain would be considered connected 1. the Parsh did indeed summon the Everstorm when they sang in Stormform. though, the Everstorm itself has been building up for centuries, if not thousands of years. It was predicted thousands of years before by the Fused or Minions of Odium 2. Taln giving up started the desolations anew, but theyd be like previous times, no Everstorm included 3. You can forget about the Sons of Honor, theyre not really relevant to this as far as is know(not relevant to anything anymore XD) 4. the Spren must have had in inkling or felt that the time of desolations was near again and that the world needed radiants. Even if the spren didn’t directly know, its still the reason for why they’re bonding again
  6. Im really interested in the “curse of kind” and wondered if it’s voluntary, and if so, why would the sleepless want to live with constant bad luck? Though if we take “curse of kind” to be interpreted as a curse on the whole species, that implies that they dont choose to have bad luck. And something about being a sleepless inherently draws bad luck wheeww, we really did get off topic lol. edit: not the Sleepless. The Siah’s. My bad
  7. Exactly. Drawing more or less power. the power(fortune) existed before you messed with it, your just now adding more or less Fortune is a natural property of the Cosmere, it doesnt only come into play when someone like a Feruchemist or hoid messes with it, right?
  8. I imagine it is still kinda part of their spirtweb, in a way, even if they aren’t manipulating Fortune. Ive been thinking of Fortune as a sort of scale. When they aren’t manipulating Fortune, their “scale” is balanced so to speak and they have a normal(of however you would describe it) amount of good and bad luck(or Fortune) but when they manipulate that Fortune, theyre tipping the scale on way or the other. Good luck(like we see with hoid) or bad luck(like we see with Axies) so even if they aren’t manipulating that fortune, its still there, kinda determining your life, to one of good or bad luck
  9. this is what im getting at Fortune is involved in Future Sight. Future sight involves Spiritwebs Therefore Fortune → Futuresight → Spiritwebs Im not saying that saying that fortune is part of the spritweb, im saying that it involes the spiritweb through futuresight Questioner Is looking into the Spiritual Realm the only way to look into the future? Brandon Sanderson Any looking into the future involves looking at Spiritwebs, probability, and stuff like that. So, yes. Oathbringer release party (Nov. 13, 2017)
  10. Again. Not what im saying XD at least not how im trying to make it sound im saying that foresight involves fortune. And that any foresight in the cosmere involves spiritwebs and probability ergo, fortune involves spiritwebs. Sometimes
  11. Thats not at all what im saying XD what im saying is To tap fortune you dont need spiritwebs, but once that Fortune is being used, it probably involves probability and spiritwebs(like how “seeing the future” in the cosmere works)
  12. Brandon has said fortune is involved in future sight if im reading this WoB correctly. and seeing the future always involves spiritwebs So Fortune should involve spiritwebs Questioner So, in Allomancy, most of the metals are in pairs, they're equal and opposite, pushing and pulling, Rioting, Soothing, that kind of thing. The god metals have always-- lerasium and atium, have always struck me as kind of unbalanced in a way. Like, lerasium gives you the power to use all these metals, plus atium being one of them. Is there a reason for that? Brandon Sanderson Yes, there is, and it kinda has to do with Snapping and some of the fundamental rules of the Mistborn world and the fact that people have Preservation and Ruin inside of them and all these sorts of things. So, the answer is yes. Partially, narratively, I built that in partially just 'cause I wanted atium to seem odd in the placement, right, when people got to it it's like "What? Why is this one-- This one doesn't match the others. This doesn't really work." When I was building Mistborn, one of the big things I wanted was this idea of a periodic table that was, kind of a flawed construct, that, as you read the books, you came to understand better and better. And that was something I executed-- I don't think I executed that 100% right, but I'm pleased with the general concept and how it plays out. And so I wanted atium to stick out like a sore thumb. The other thing is, I knew I needed some good foreshadowing for Fortune, for people being able to kinda see the future or versions of the future, for the whole cosmere to work. And, so, I built in atium specifically to do those things. And I built in lerasium to have, kind of, the ultimate sort of benevolent endowment sort of thing. (Not Endowment the Shard, you know what I mean.) But I also wanted to show these two magics were intrinsically tied together on Scadrial because the way that humankind was created. We're getting into some deep stuff, I'll just leave it there. But that was what was going through my mind as I was building those things all out. Oathbringer Chicago signing (Nov. 21, 2017)
  13. Its pretty amazing right! i had no clue what i was even getting into when i first read Secret History and i was absolutely blown away. i never thought id see Kelsier again, let alone watch him Ascend and go through everything he did
  14. They arent made of investiture, they more of a force that attracts investitures This is specifically about Connection, but I imagine that Fortune and Identity are similar Aurimus As the two Realms, the Cognitive and the Spiritual, are, well, fictional... Are they all comprised of Investiture, completely? Brandon Sanderson Yes. No, completely? Well, here's the thing. Investiture, matter, and energy are all the same thing in the cosmere. So, just like energy and matter are the same thing here. So, yes, everything's made of Investiture, in the same way that everything's made of energy in our world. Does that make sense? Aurimus So, what about what spren are made of in the Cognitive Realm? Is that just Investiture? Brandon Sanderson So, yeah, I'll dig more into that. I'm gonna go with Investiture for now, but I could change that as I move along. What I'm kind of debating is, is there a separate Cognitive state, and I don't think so. So I'm gonna go with Investiture for now. Aurimus How about Connection? Brandon Sanderson Connection is, like, the equivalent of a quantum connection in our world, so it's more like a force than something comprised of something. The question is like, "What is gravity comprised of?" And then you start asking weird questions. Oathbringer London signing (Nov. 28, 2017)
  15. I think Fabrial usage mostly. and i mean cross magics fabrials. like when the term becomes cosmere wide for any magical device. this might be farfetched but... The commom populace of Roshar may have forgotten fabrial tech. but those secrets stay with people in shadesmar. Fabrial tech that is just now being rediscovered on Roshar, has probably been being actively used in Shadesmar for hundreds if not thousands of years still. The Ire were using a advanced warning fabrial 300 years prior to the events of The Stormlight Archive when the common populace is just rediscovering those fabrials. think of where the Ire must be now, if we met them during the events of the Stormlight Archive this info brandon is giving us isnt meant to give us direct answers right now, but to make the transition into era 3 easier, when a lot of these “hard” problems are now like solving a algebra equation. finally bringing the larger cosmer plot to the foreground. Get us, as well as those in-world to start asking these questions, because they’ll probably already have the answers by era 3
  16. So, Shallan seemed so not surprised after hearing about Ashyn and Braize. shallash must really be talkin
  17. They all died 900 years before Era 1
  18. Unfortunately, Division only splits the bonds of molecules, not the atoms themselves Questioner The Division Surge: does it actually split atoms or does it split the bonds of molecules? Brandon Sanderson It splits the bonds of molecules, it does not split atoms. Questioner That would be completely overpowered. Brandon Sanderson I have done an atom splitting magic originally in Dragonsteel. And wooow it was overpowered. So really, this is fiddling... You'll see what it does when I use it, but we'll not be splitting atoms. We're not creating nuclear reactio... or fission, so. Leipzig Book Fair (March 24, 2017)
  19. These are two terrible examples. first, the Shards never actually made an Oath to stay away from each other. It was just a suggestion that some of them took seriously. If they all actually did make an Oath, they would be incapable of forming pairs or whatever groupings they wish. second. Preservation didnt break the deal. He just left a loophole to be exploited. the deal was Ati would eventually get to destroy the planet(if he was alive.) but what wasnt part of the deal is that Preservation couldnt attack or trap ruin and eventually kill Ati and stop the deal Nameless36 All the Shards basically agreed not to settle on the same planet. Six of them - that we know of - immediately, basically broke that. Brandon Sanderson So... they did not make an oath to it. There was a suggestion made... and perhaps the people who made the suggestion did not understand that, if you want the Shards to do something, you need an actual Oath. And they did not get one. Tel Aviv Signing (Oct. 18, 2019)
  20. Because it doesnt make for a very interesting story for the shard to just go “you’re getting too strong. Boom your dead” ”oh, i don’t particularly like you. Boom your dead” “your trying to stop me. oh well... Boom your dead” XD
  21. Who said that the Feruchemist has to be from Era 2? they could be a worldhopper from era 1 who know the time dilation tricks that most worldhoppers know and use i think this is definitely a Feruchemist. good catch @Theoryspren
  22. I just had a thought that maybe Vax is the planet with Ambition’s Splintered Remain’s we know she was splintered somewhere other than the Threnodite system. And as things go in the Cosmere, those Splinters are bound to become sentient or make some kind of magic if they are even on a habitable planet but the way Khriss just glosses over it in the Arcanum Unbounded and how she just hints at Vax’s magic system in Elantris’ Ars Arcanum, makes me think the two are connected and Brandon will eventually do a vax novella or something and itll all make sense
  23. Dont know if this has been discussed before but i just thought of this after seeing a WoB What if Trellium is just one of Autonomy’s god metals? We know that all Shards “have at least one” godmetal associated with them. when i saw this WoB, I immediately thought of Autonomy. god metals are unique to a Vessel/Shard pairing(only leras made Lerasium. only Ati made Atium, etc...) so this should mean that some of her Avatars might have their own Godmetal right?(Bavadin makes Bavidinium, Trell makes Trellium) so if Trell is indeed an Avatar of Autonomy, then I think that Autonomy has at least two god metals associated with her(Bavidinium and trellium) even if Trellium is just Bavadinium, im still adamant on my theory that she has more than one godmetal This isnt really important, just an interesting thought i had. Questioner Does every Shard, of divinity so to speak, have a metal associated to it? Brandon Sanderson They all have at least one. Skyward release party (Nov. 6, 2018)
  24. I really like this theory and this one epigraph from Words of Radiance kinda backs this up So the Singers existing party in the Cognitive realm interferes with the Spren getting pulled into to the Physical? Or they just dont get pulled into the physical as much "The spren betrayed us, it’s often felt. / Our minds are too close to their realm / That gives us our forms, but more is then / Demanded by the smartest spren, / We can’t provide what the humans lend, / Though broth are we, their meat is men."
  25. 1. Honestly, i only joined the Shard so i could get a copy of Aether of Night. I lurked for a few weeks and wasnt that impressed and then saw the Aether request topic and had to sign up. And im glad i did 2.getting to meet and interact with all of these wonderful peoples who have the same interests as me 3. I love all of the Cosmere puns and jokes and stuffyou guys come up with. Its pure gold. And they really lift my spirits when i need it
