We don't have a definite answer as to whether or not they knew Overmastery could result in increasing the no. of Ribbons a Sand Master can control. Some people can just control more Sand from the beginning, as we see with Drile. It might very well be the case that there are other conditions one needs to fulfill in order for Overmastery to not just leave them unable to do Sand Mastery. That it was Overmastering that lead to Kenton being able to Master more Ribbons was also his own theory, but Occam's Razor. Kenton theorized that the knowledge of Overmastering to get stronger as a Sand Master was controlled by the upper ranks of the Diem as a gatekeeping measure to maintain their power structure. It might very well be that Kenton truly discovered it and the Sand Masters didn't know, after all Overmastery is very physically painful and dangerous, as extreme dehydration tends to be. The Diem hadn't really been put in a situation where someone might be forced to Overmaster for a while, so the knowledge might've been lost too, but the Diem is a very old institution and maintained it's martial traditions and hierarchy, so them being unaware seems unlikely. One can draw conclusions from Lord Mastrell Praxton and Kenton's relationship to whether or not the former would've kept this from his son, but that's not conclusive evidence. Autonomy and her Avatars might've blocked the spreading of that knowledge, for all we know, or... they might've intervened with Kenton to give him more power (there were faces in the sky that were watching; plus other Shards have done similar stuff).

1) If she can find the appropriate Connection, yes. Spiritwebs linger on in the Spiritual Realm for a while, before dissolving. Although it's not confirmed, I think how long a Spiritweb can linger on has to do with the Spiritweb's Connections to the world. The screams Szeth hears, Dalinar hearing Evi's voice & possibly him talking to Nohadon, and one of my favourite scenes from RoW. Basically, so long as there's some lingering attachment, so long as someone remembers them, a part of them lives on. So, if the book was really important to the author, there might be a Connection there that can be used to decipher it. 2) I don't think so. There is no communication going on there, no language, only sounds. Connection will not help if the person on the other end themselves cannot understand what they're saying. That what they're saying can have meaning or that they intend to transfer that meaning doesn't matter in this case. For Connection to work in this case would require a language to be it's own thing, that can exist separate from its users and I don't think a language by itself exists as a sort of platonic ideal somewhere in the Spiritual Realm. When an Invested art taps into a land to allow it's user to be able to speak its language they're Connecting to a general collective consensus (you have no idea how long it took to find a term other than "general idea" to use here, which I didn't want to use to get away from the concept of the Platonic Ideal Realm), kind of like the spren do with humanity (we hear more of this in RoW in regards to a certain spren). Because it's more mechanical, it results in gaps sometimes when concepts do not translate across cultures, like Hoid saying coin or soil instead of spheres and rock. I think how this works is that it's basically like a general Connection to a group of individuals who all share a common Connection, and a common identity. I think Connections are what forms Identity, hence the term Spiritweb. 3) Intent is important in the Cosmere. So, if the person making the Connection is the person speaking in code, it might be possible to not transfer meaning to the person on the other end of the Connection. Unless the Invested Art they're using is itself built to always transfer meaning. If the person who's speaking in code is not the person making the Connection, then the Connection should work. Since the person speaking does understand what they're saying, that meaning will transfer along the Connection same as any other sounds-codified-with-meaning/language.

Someone actually created a topic about the similarities in character arcs between Szeth and Moash, take a look:

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Honorless replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Why, thank you! Granted, you now have the ability to read 3 times as fast as you normally do! This ability is kind of like Allomancy, but don't worry, you won't have to swallow metals! Instead, what you'll Allomantically Burn is the book that you wish to read 3 times as fast. Sadly, the speed of the Burning currently exceeds your speed of reading, so it's a race against time for you. But worry not! You just need to increase your base reading speed to read 3 times as fast as you normally do and you'll be golden! I wish to become a Planeswalker -
theory Some Notes on the Recreance [Discuss]
Honorless replied to LewsTherinTelescope's topic in Cosmere Discussion
No, no, guys, I get that part. As Oltux put it, I expected the Day of Recreance to have been an emotional response, but there's definitely more to it, they were on the clock for some reason. Abandoning their Oaths all at once and the Bonded spren not informing other spren. -

The Parshmen transformation and the Recreance happened years apart? I didn't know that... that honestly changes things then -
Wow, that's a lot of work, @mdross81! As for the hearts of men, I think it's mostly thematic but in a place where intentions matter, everything is a little bit magical

It has to do with the Spiritual Realm Spiritwebs can linger on after death for a while, so long as they have some Connections. So Szeth is hearing the screams of his victims' Spiritwebs.

Do plants count as '"alive" for the purposes of awakening?
Honorless replied to Kaponkie's question in Cosmere Q&A
Yup, here's a WoB: Plant matter is actually easier to awaken than stone or steel. Edit: oh wait, you meant a living plant getting Awakened. All living things in the Cosmere have some amount of innate Investiture, and we hear about organic matter specifically being used for Awakening, not still living matter. Hmm... it could also be that Awakening seeks patterns of life and the Investiture than pretends to be alive and it cannot just replace a life, so the restriction might be a hard limit rather than a soft limit. I don't remember Vasher talking about this in-book nor any WoB about it, sorry.- 4 replies

How grimdark is Brandon Sanderson?
Honorless replied to Oltux72's topic in General Brandon Discussion
The original Mistborn trilogy could get pretty dark, and the Way of Kings was difficult to get through, but I think grimdark requires an element of bleakness and hopelessness. Both the works' underlying themes runs contrary to that. It's dark, but it's not grim. -

I'd also like to point out that we've seen neither hide nor hair of many of the seemingly very important Fused we saw in Oathbringer. Hnanan who gave Moash the title Vyre, Hariel who took over Demid's body (imagine the interactions we could've had between him & Venli), Turash who was at the Battle of Thaylen City, whom Odium called "old friend", and who had the confidence to question Odium. We didn't see the Fused with whom Hoid danced a long time ago, her name was Vatwha, iirc. We didn't see the Thunderclast Kai-Garnis (imagine their reaction to Yushah not returning after getting Nightblood-ed. It would've been interesting to see team Odium's reaction to Nightblood a bit more) So, I'd say it's very possible, even likely, that the Honorspren characters themselves might not become plot relevant at all in the future books.

Theory - Why the Ghostbloods want to find Ba-Ado-Mishram
Honorless replied to mdross81's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Good theory, @mdross81! The Ghostbloods, and Thaidakar in particular, wouldn't just want to free Ba-Ado-Mishram for the distant possibility that she might want to defect from Odium, like they claim for wanting to recruit Sja-Anat. There's so little about Mishram that is still known, why would they bet anything on such a distant possibility, there's definitely more to it. Oh, there's so many good theories about Ba-Ado-Mishram nowadays (I'm so looking forward to both her and Dai-Gonarthis). -
Well, the main point of that trip, both plot-wise in-book and narratively, was to address the schism between humanity & spren caused by the Day of Recreance, which was successfully addressed. Going forwards, it might mean healing Deadeyes and getting more Knights Radiant in general, not just Windrunners, as one of the reasons why they chose to talk to the Honorspren was because of their reach & influence amongst the other spren, as well as their centralization.

So it seems likely that Hoid can hurt Cognitive Shadows in the Cognitive Realm?

We knew but didn't realize there were such clear examples in-text! Thanks for posting this, @Lesser spren!

Either iron or zinc/brass for me. Not steel because that sounds a bit more difficult & scary to fly with, for me. I don't like heights anyway, so I'll just use iron for short jumps. I don't feel anything particular for pewter and tin, don't like the idea of pewter drag or getting flashbanged while burning tin. Copperclouds and Seeking are definitely useful in-world & having a Metamagic is always nice but I don't think burning copper or zinc will be useful on Earth.

What Order of Knight Radiant is your Favorite?
Honorless replied to Argus the Awful's topic in Stormlight Archive
Did something happen to this page? I can't seem to be able to vote. I can just see the stats of which option got how many votes. I can't click one, and there's no "Submit Vote" button. Nope, I did not accidentally click "Show Results" and there's no "Show Vote Options" button either. This is not an old topic either, nor is there any Mod post for locking the poll or anything. Edit: \( ̄▽ ̄;)/Nvm, I already voted here -
