  1. Transferring the Bond is a novel idea from a strategic viewpoint. Dalinar might have to serve Odium but the Stormfather does not need to be included in a better package deal for the new god. It's a good precautionary measure. But it really is contrary to Adolin's character arc and that makes it rather unlikely. There's also a mechanics question. The Connection might get transferred from Dalinar to Adolin but there's a sapient being on the other end of that bond and the final Ideal hasn't been spoken, so the Bond can be let go of and the new candidate for Bondsmith may be rejected by the spren. We don't really know how effective Ishar would've been with what he was trying to do because he didn't get to finish it.

    Shardcast: Moash

This was awesome! It's super late at night where I am right now and this was just the perfect ending to my day. I'll probably respond more properly to this tomorrow, but fair warning, most of it is going to be quotes taken from the episode and very happy emojis. Edit: here are the highlights! I'll put them in a spoiler box so nobody gets spoiled It really feels like Moash is the only character who's still connected to how Darkeyes are treated. His PoVs in OB were very poignant with this. Now it feels like the whole issue was shoved under the carpet because the way it was dealt with with Kaladin's character was: oh look there are good people on the other side also magic: you're no longer a Darkeyes! That does nothing to address the issue and felt like it was invalidating all the discourse about inequality. I think this goes back to Words of Radiance setting Dalinar up as the "not all of us are bad" and OB carrying that theme forward. It isn't about you being good or bad. It's about someone being put into a position where their only available option is relying on your continued goodwill. That is a very demeaning position to be put into, to put it very lightly. This is exactly what we saw with Kaladin being sent to jail and having to learn to trust Dalinar & put his well-being in his hands. Just how does that address the issue that Elhokar tried to (& would've successfully) have Kaladin executed for questioning a Lighteyes and the wrong that Amaram did to Kaladin, killing his friends & selling him to slavery in return for saving his life? Yeah, the time jump to the back 5 and book 5 possibly taking place within ten days dampened my enthusiasm for Renarin and Rlain. No build-up of relationship, here they're just getting to know each other, then bam, they've been married for years. Maybe the flashbacks could mitigate that. But then there's the whole, y'know, the only gay couple we'll see onscreen. The Vorin society is cool with homosexuality but we don't see the Vorin society being cool with homosexuality, we're just told that they are, and even that is a comment by the author outside of the books. Hopefully that changes going forwards. But right now, I don't see any of that, and that makes me afraid that every struggle that I've faced being gay is going to get ignored with Renarin & Rlain's story, and them being gay would just be flavour text, getting treated with the same amount of detail as liking apples over oranges, with no further significance. Hey, I just won Who's that Cosmere Character in the first guess! It was an accident, yes, but I did get it right!
  3. This is technically not really in keeping with the topic you started (and I'm really sorry about that! And I'm afraid it might be very... basic, and it's probably not going to cultivate a lot of discussion, and it's basically just a point raised about rhetoric) but I find it really curious that when people talk about killing in relation to the justice system, the victim themselves is kind of sidelined, in relation to the people they left behind. The value of someone's life isn't just about their value to others (though obviously we should all aspire to be better than scum-on-Earth). Someone just suddenly... isn't because of another's action. Like, a person isn't just services rendered, or is defined by their so-and-so relationship with other people. They are also themselves. And there is some inherent value to that, imo. ~tangent end~ sorry to bring that up here but people just always phrased things this way and I kept noticing it like ◐.̃◐
  4. Oh I suppose I could get rich using that power, and that would automatically entail some unethical chaos Granted, I'll even add my fav toppings to it: mushrooms! Sadly, by that I mean, it has fungus growing all over it, but hey those fungi are all edible, so you could go ahead & cook em I wish to become royalty!
  5. Are... are you sure you want to give one person the power to create unstable isotopes?! I mean I'll take it but...
  6. I've read the books, they were good. Not a lot of in-depth exploration of the world or the magic or the characters though, it felt very rushed and yet I can't really call the plot convoluted. Uh, this makes it sound worse than it actually is. It isn't great, but it's not bad, give it a try. There's another series to it too: Six of Crows but that one's sequel was pretty bad imo, so I'd suggest to leave it at the first book. Where Leigh Bardugo really shines though, is her short stories: the Witch of Duva, The Too Clever Fox...
  7. Have you found Stantough's channel yet? https://youtu.be/7rb4zyjK2w4 https://youtu.be/zLXkKWGH4_w https://youtu.be/JE-q-uk7DQ0 https://youtu.be/v4FpuprPLlc https://youtu.be/F6QBtRFfGjQ https://youtu.be/pwO-BIEA3_A
  8. That's a good one That's... strangely specific Granted, but you will end up with bird poop all over you everytime you initiate a conversation with it I wish for the ability to create any element I want from nothing
  9. Scroll down and you'll find: "a critical appraisal of a book, play, film, etc. published in a newspaper or magazine." Though I suppose my critical thinking professor wouldn't asked for a bit more too but this isn't really a formal thing, it's a reaction video. Aren't you being a bit too salty about this? I didn't say everyone's interpretation is equally valid, that reminds me of modern art & I don't like that. Also a lot of people whose political opinions I don't agree with. But never mind that. I did say "subjective to a degree", mate. True, it was a very short video, like he read it and here's his thoughts & immediate reactions. It wasn't very in-depth but he wasn't really trying to? He wasn't writing a formal critical essay or anything, just reacting to a book he'd heard a lot about that did not meet his expectations. He just pointed out a few things that didn't work out for him.
  10. He did say that we're supposed to get more invested in Ashravan as Shai gets more invested in bringing him back but we don't really meet Ashravan in the book, and that kind of lowers the stakes for him a bit. For me, I would say it would've helped if there was more of a feeling of Shai getting really invested in him and then bringing him back but kind of realizing that she might know him like the back of her hand but they're still strangers. That would've been cool. Shai's imprisonment felt low stakes to him. I think that's a valid point. Like, even if you know that this character is going to get away, there should be a feeling of "but at what cost?" that was lacking there because the main character herself wasn't worried. To me, it was perfectly fine, she was a master of her craft, confident, cunning, logical & calculating in her thinking, and that stopped her from really worrying, even as she realized she perhaps should've been more worried and less invested in the challenge of reviving Ashravan. Subjectivity doesn't automatically make it an invalid interpretation. People have different tastes and reviews are about how a book made you feel. You both have perfectly justified responses to the book. Books are meant to be subjective to a degree, the reader is meant to interpret them.
  11. I recently discovered Bardcore and I have to say, I'm really enjoying this
  12. If it's not Vasher then Mraize or Hoid seem like the best guesses, if it's not them then... Rayse
  13. Hmm, gotta agree with the Shardcast here: the character's gender, using/not using Investiture, them being from Roshar etc really aren't helpful clues at all.
  14. Sup, my fellow depression and anxiety crew! The anxiety part is new, btw, well not actually new but recently discovered and it sure does explain quite a few things. Had two anxiety attacks, haven't had any since, so I think I'm doing better. The Corona crisis certainly isn't helping. I was supposed to be in college for my Masters now but things got delayed because of the crisis and because my own physical & mental health took a toll. A lot of personal issues also cropped up. C'est la vie, I guess. The physical health issues I had were some heart & respiratory problems (thankfully none of the very bad options turned out to be true, but what a scary time they had picked to happen! This was back in the summer of last year... Wow, it's already been a year since this pandemic started) But hey I'm physically in working order again. Well, except my ear canals are blocked again and the ENT said some ppl just have that issue more often than others and I'll just need regular visits. Fun. Also dealing with wisdom teeth, apparently gonna take months (maxillofacial surgery, esp for top right one) Fun. (Also, where is the wisdom in wisdom teeth and what am I supposed to do with them? Put them on a necklace? Huh, now there's an idea) Ugh, but they're just annoying things. Oh, I'm finally starting to exercise again, already feel better on that front actually. There, that's the most positive note I could end on but I didn't have a lot to work with, hopefully everything works out. Thanks for the venting & sharing space, and hope everyone else here manages to make things work too.
  15. The term seemed to refer to some pre-Recreance and possibly post-Aharietiam enemies of the Knights Radiant. The Desolations were gone but many of the Unmade remained free. The Midnight Essence was counted amongst the ten Deaths, not necessarily Re-Shephir herself. Could be Corrupted spren & other things related to the Unmade + Thunderclasts?
  16. Well, Nightblood being a Dawnshard idea is fresh! If it helps, Dragonsteel Prime's main character was the holder of a Dawnshard whose Command seemed to have been related to Destroy. (You can check Brandon's site if you want to know more, there's some chapters available there). Do note that Brandon might've changed things Hoid having the Unite or Bind Dawnshard doesn't make a lot of sense. Hoid's immortality as well as inability to eat meat or hurt others comes from his the prev host of a Dawnshard. In Dragonsteel Prime his ability seemed kinda like the Surge of Progression. I don't see how all that might relate to Uniting or Binding. Perhaps the theorized Survive Dawnshard of Preservation's or Grow (same as Change?)
  17. Wow, I didn't realize this was so heavily foreshadowed! Then again I didn't see any of the twists coming in the original Mistborn trilogy either.
  18. I've always really liked the theory but wouldn't the line of succession go through the Kholins? One of them is the queen of Alethkar and the other one is one of the Bondsmiths, of the spren of Urithiru, their HQ no less. While the point about them probably not wanting the job makes sense, I don't think Kaladin wants it either, I also feel like it goes against his character development in RoW of letting go of his burdens a bit and doing what he can. I don't think Navani or Jasnah would reject the position either, especially not in the dire event that Dalinar falls, they'll naturally just pick it up where he left it off, they've both done this before for Gavilar & Elhokar. Also, could it be that this Death Rattle has already been fulfilled with Kaladin rescuing the Kholins and bringing the resurgence of the Radiants?
  19. I agree with the observations made in this post by Jofwu But I can see why this theory's so popular. The Death Rattles really tie it all up. I think it's possible but I don't really like it that much. I think it's more likely that El is going to be the champion, it seems heavily foreshadowed in Rhythm of War
  20. I think El will continue the tradition of single-book Fused villains
