  1. Does Ialai strike you as a wise or carfull leader who wishes to accomplish anything? I also have no doubt that anyone who Ialia appointed would hunt down Sadeas's killer for the prestige of avenging a highprince and the ability to kill whoever accomplished it(likley a rival highprince or one of his servants who you could embarrass by association).
  2. My understanding of the reasons she gave for choosing who she did (will not even mention the *********** name) was to irritate Dalinar and undermine his authority. Admittedly we do not know her motivations as we have never had her point of view before but I fail to see why any given highlord would want him in charge as apposed to themselves. If Ialia did have to consult with them then why did they agree with her instead of jockeying for power and if she did not why bring it up?
  3. Also this is interpretation but I am fairly sure that Jasnah initially believed that Shallan had become her squire at the beginning of WoR.
  4. It would be equally correct to say that the US presidency is a puppet position because he appoints cabinet secretaries. A head of state can be week or a puppet figure but he does not become one because he has people do part of the job for him. Delegation is part of a good leader.
  5. She might be my favorite. Lets face it she is amazing.
  6. Commerce is a masculine art so a man will usually work that counter. We also know that in the modern day people are getting around standard restrictions al la the stormwarden's script. Considering who the decision benefited Ialia's political goals instead of being the obvious best choice for Sadeas's highlords why would she consult them? Wouldn't they would probably push against it? Ialia is not trying to be a good leader she is trying to cause trouble for Dalinar's coalition.
  7. Dar found that he could not sleep that night. Their was a restless energy in him that he could not explain and nothing seemed able to cure. Well if he could not sleep he may as well work. The conjoined fabrials that made spanreeds work did not not allow for sound to move through them. The new discovery of gemstones that if infused would produce sound .made for an intriguing possibility. Perhaps in the future men would simple speak to each other long distances away. But how to go about this...
  8. I am pretty sure that Vathah becomes a squire after learning to understand and trust Shallan a bit. Perhaps that is the barrier for squireship to a lightweaver? As to Elsecallers I see no reason that they could not have squires. The reason that I think Jasnah does not have any is that she does not have any personal relationships of the right kind. Other then her fellow Veristitalian who she is not in close physical proximity to we have no evidence of Jasnah having any personal relationships outside her family. If Jasnah took another ward perhaps she could have a squire but we also know that she finds herself a bad teacher.
  9. Sounds like approval to me. After her male relatives agreed and she is technically only a regent anyway.
  10. I always thought it was Dalinar's understanding of Honor's shardic intent leaking through their bond. Perhaps it is more general though. Figure out the common ground, build relationships(Adolin+Shallan but also the coalition of monarchs), bring people together, and allow people to understand each other. I personally want to see Dalinar to spend some time educating Gawx. Teaching him that the Alethi are human just like his own people.
  11. Yes but this was an act of regency not ownership and I think she had to get approval on this.
  12. I do think Lirin is going to insist on staying behind. His patients need him and he is a doctor. I also think that having Kaladin constantly worried about his parents would ruin his use in the field and give the enemy leverage against him. Kaladin may or may not be accompanied by at least one lightweaver and maybe several other people we do not know if he is going in solo. Also I do not think the fused can detect surges. The screamers detect them and draw the fused to the correct location. Also also why would the fused have any people at Hearthstone at the moment? Their numbers are limited and Hearthstone is secure. Even if their are some they may be allowing fabrial use that will mask radiant presences. Finally I find Kaladin swearing the forth ideal this early in the book goes contrary to the pattern of the other books. (I am not saying this could not happen)
  13. Many Lighteyes who are not married use siblings or other family members so its not like same sex couples are without options. By the by do we know if Rosharan woman can hold property?
  14. We do know that their are fabrials for all 10 surges we just don't know how any of them actually work.
  15. Yes Dru and Drehy are dating. Sigzil mentions it to Kaladin but Kaladin already knew.
  16. But the more practical ones see that they can be useful and highspren strike me as practical people.
  17. I find myself doubting that the evisagers had access to shards
  18. Fused not killing you
  19. You only get 10 years. Then we come back?
  20. Perhaps he did something and Harmony put him on a time out?
  21. What about renewing the Oathpact in a limited way for a specific purpose?
  22. Agreed although I do think that they could have an amazing working dynamic. Reverence for life debate for the win!
  23. A Truthwatcher might be the hardest to kill if my interpretation of their illumination surge is correct and it gives them a wider view of vision thus telling them exactly where every shot is coming from and letting them doge. I think the best option with widely available Rosharan tech is barbed knifes or arrows. Stormlight will heal but you will still have your movement impaired until you pull them out and that takes stormlight. Shardplate is trickier and I invite everyone to check out the anti shard hammer thread for more on that.
  24. Perhaps the Dawnshard is just realy heavy? I know it is a blase theory but this is what I have always thought.
  25. SOOO happy! Now the question comes. Do you read the potentially spoilery previews or do you wait until the book comes out. Does one have the monumental will it takes to resist? Can one resist? Should I resist? Seriously what do you all do? Reads preview eagerly.
