  1. Name: Dar Age: 20 Rosharan Years. Nationality: Emuli exile currently living in Urithru Appearance: Taller than average but rather thin. Skills: He is a trained with a bow as befitting a well bred man of his status although he has never fought in an army. He is literate both in the literal sense of the word and in the scholarly sense and can both speak and read several languages including Alethi, Vaden, Azish, Emuli, and Selay. He is trained in music and has a good ear although he prefers the drums. He also has practice at fabrial construction and logical debate something he is a bit to fond of. Abilities/ Powers: Nothing special yet but he is seeing strange symbolsheads out of the corners of his eyes. Backstory: Dar was raised and educated in Emul by his parrents who were moderately wealth. When the situation in their homeland got to bad they relocated to Azir where he finished his education managed to get a job first job as an interpreter due to his proficiency with a number of Vorin Languages. He current resides in Urithiru working for the Emuli contingent as they go over the Azish suggestions about coalition parameters.
  2. I was thinking that if the swordmen drew fast enough he could just stab the marksmen before he got off a shot. Sure but she was also Jasnah which means she was prepping for the worst and would have everything she needed to engage in a high level combat with a powerful opponent. I also believe that she only uses a few essences before the perpendicularity opens. Could you post that scenes were she uses them before the perpendicularity opens? My copy of Oathbringer is missing.
  3. How did the singers change forms before the arrival of Honor and Cultivation? We know that they way that the listeners do it is by walking into a highstorm aka Honor's perpendicularity and it seems that the Horneaters use Cultivation's perpendicularity for something similar. This implies that changing forms requires either a large amount of free investiture or a perpendicularity but untill Honor and Cultivation got to Roshar their was none. Singers were created by Adonalsium as part of Roshar's ecology they are clearly designed to change form and their existed spren to bond but how did they go about bonding without either god present? Did Adonalsium leave some kind of perpendicularity or investiture on Roshar and if so what happened to it?
  4. One might if she thought said daughter was threatening an apocalypse.
  5. I agree that either could loose by mistake but to keep this metaphor going a marksmen and a swordsmaster standing a few feet from one onother at the begining of a battle have about an equal chance of wining. She was prepping to fight Reniarian who she thought was a traitor and she had stormlight on her contained in normal gemstones. It is not unreasonably to expect these to be of different verities based on what she wanted to soulcast.
  6. I have to reiterate that once the perpendicularity opens I am not sure that we can take anything Jasnah does as examples of her normal abilities. I think you are correct here about a disconnect. To use your earlier example a highly skilled marksmen can still loose to a sword master if his gun jams or he runs out of bullets on none critical hits or their are other conditions like heavy fog that obscure vision at a distance. Jasnah's is (contrary to Ivory's insistence) human and therefor fallible. If she has a clear advantage that is just that an advantage but I do not think it fair to say that a given ability means she wins all the time.
  7. We do not actually know that.
  8. A group of people bent on genocide that show up after you kill them. Imagine a bunch of continuously reincarnating nazis. That is basically what the fused are. Without them humans and singers might eventually find peace but with them that would be basically impossible.
  9. From the context I inferred that he meant that radiant's could more accurately produce more complex substances not that they were unable to produce any substance with any gemstone.
  10. Yes they do Rithmatist Albuquerque signing (May 22, 2013) #12 Share Copy StormAtlas (paraphrased) Why can Kaladin Surgebind with any gem type but Jasnah and Shallan need specific types? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) A lot of that will be explained as the series comes along. It is really the difference between Soulcasting and the other forms of Surgebinding. It's more a quirk of Soulcasting than it is something that is different about about Kaladin. So you've kind of got it reversed a little bit though; Soulcasting has this additional restriction that the other ones don't.

  13. Its just me no other reason.
  14. I see more of an old friendship or at least relationship. They have known each other for forever and so they understand each other quite deeply.
  15. Will he finish outline 5 or will he finish 4th's first draft?
  16. Only 21 and many of these have been massive commercial successes including the first one. This is to major a commitment to ask from anyone right out of the gate. What happens if the first 2 flop?
  17. I like this but I personally would make some changes. Spiritual/Emotional Honor-To connect with others to be consistent to expect things of others and give them a chance to live up to it Autonomy-To be independent of others to expect nothing of anyone else Odium-To hate others to desire to dominate or destroy Adoration (Unknown)-To desire the approval of others to desire their acceptance and love Physical Endowment- To give to others to strengthen them Tax(unknown)- To take from others to weaken them Temporal I think this is correct no need for change Cultivation – to work on something other than yourself Ambition – to work on yourself Preservation – to never change, inertia Ruin – to break things down, entropy Cognitive Dominion- To force or manipulate others to your way of thinking or use them corrosively Devotion- To allow others to follow you to help them as best you can Pride(unknown)- To care for yourself more then any other Humility(unknown)- To care little for yourself to want as little as possible potentially survival shard.
  18. Physical copies or audiobooks are the way to go with anything serious. Ebooks for less serious stuff.
  19. I must disagree about making a Stormlight novel into a single movie. We would just have to much ground to cover. I would love to see a voidbringer army on the big screen but I suspect it would not be easy to get the hundreds of pages of world building done needed for anything to make sense. Also I did not love Aquaman as a movie.
  20. I am not referencing struggle I am referencing the fact that it took more then one command. Try saying you will change two times it takes a while. Yes a master artist can render almost anything given enough time but they still practice specific techniques and find some easier then others. It also takes them longer and more effort to render somthingthey have not done before. Jasnah points out the basics of soulcasting the different essences to Shallan as they move she does not get into any of the nuanced detail that I would imagine a master soulcaster uses. She also explains that it is a practiced art meaning it takes time to get good at different aspects of it. I know of no practiced arts where someone can say that they have mastered every aspect of it. It stands to reason therefore that Jasnah practiced specific aspects she thought would be useful along with the basics and that she would have varying skill levels with different essences and would have a hard time working some of them under pressure.
  21. I don't think that we have addressed this yet but is soulcasting equal for all things. Remeber you use different techniques for each of the 10 essences and I assume that it takes a different technique to transform essence A into essence B then C. If this is true then their are 10 to the 9th possible techniques for every essence and it is impossible that Jasnah has practiced all of them. We see soulcast a rock ledge out of the air but it takes her two tries to convert ropes into smoke. Perhaps Jasnah knowing she can't master every essence transformation focused instead on only a few. Blood or flesh to smoke and crystal for example or air to rock for another. These will come up commonly in combat so she practiced with them specifically the way you practice a set of swordstances one after the other until she can do them perfectly in her sleep with speed. This would imply that Jasnah has a few quick transformations at her finger tips and can only do more complicated or different ones if she has the time.
  22. Perhaps Nohadon's writings gained such a deep place in the Roshar subconscious that they created the oaths as people thought about words and their meanings. We know that spren are created out of human perceptions so perhaps Nohadon changed them so that they would respond to oaths by changing human perceptions.
  23. No. You cannot make invested things via soulcasting.
  24. First of all we do not know what drove the humans out of Shinovar it could have been several things. We also do not know if they actually agreed to the land division or if this was decided for them. Finally Honor is not just the Shard of oaths he genuinely cared for sapient life so him going out of his way to stop a never ending atrocity is not unreasonable for him.
  25. So what happens if I win? I am wining at the moment I am writing this.
