Why did Kaladin become a Windrunner? I'm pretty sure I posted this somewhere else a few years ago, but I think it also belongs here

I've read the first 2 volumes but I haven't gotten to the 3rd one yet because I've forgotten basically everything except the magic system. I read volume 2 when it came out in 2018, and it's just been so long that if I wanted to read the 3rd part I'd have to reread the first two. I almost did read them again and finish the story, but then I did my Stormlight reread instead.

I'm reading RoW, but I'm a slow reader so I'm probably going to need at least a week to read the whole thing. I also have a lot of homework, but next week is Thanksgiving break so I can just read for hours and get away with it.

Single Pringles, Not Ready to Mingle
Flying replied to DramaQueen's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
The first time I read WoK I didn't even notice Dalinar and Navani. I was only 12, but I still can't believe I had no idea until they started kissing each other. I reread it again later and it was pretty obvious the whole time. As for someone actually flirting with me, I think it only happened once. I think he was trying to drop hints for months, but I only actually noticed when he accidentally said something to me and then ran away blushing. One second he was talking to me, and then the next second he was all the way across the hallway. It literally took someone running away from me for me to realize they'd been trying to flirt. I still don't even know if I'm interpreting that situation correctly, but his face was bright red so I think I'm right? Anyways, we're all awful here at reading social cues. It's sad, but I just say it adds ~flavor~ to my personality- 754 replies

There's this song from a Tangled show that has major Elhokar vibes. I literally only have to change one word in the whole song and it's perfect. Every time I hear the song I just think about him in Oathbringer and his whole character arc.

The Procrastinators!
Flying replied to King Aragorn of Gondor's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
I forced myself to stop reading Rhythm of War and try to do my homework... but now I'm on here avoiding my homework anyways. I tried to conquer the procrastination, but it's too powerful. Procrastination would be a hilarious Shard, honestly. He'd have something similar to the Thrill except it'd make people procrastinate, and then the plot would not happen at all because the characters would just be like,"Eh, I'll do it later." -
Thinking of calling in sick to work tomorrow
Flying replied to UpLifted's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm in high school and it's online right now because of the virus, so I can't even take the day off because it's on the computer and I'm at home anyways. I might try to read during class, but we'll see if I can manage that. I got in trouble in middle school because my teacher caught me reading Oathbringer the day it was released, so this might end up being a similar situation. I'm praying it's not...but Stormlight is too tempting. I just gotta be stealthy about it and hopefully not get caught. -
I don't know if this belongs here, but the last time my friend read Stormlight was over a year ago and he's forgotten a lot. He's reading Dawnshard and is slightly confused, and this conversation has me laughing so hard. He thought it was an error in the ebook. This is unrelated, but this is my 100th post after having this account for 3 years. That's really sad honestly, but at least I finally made it!

I don't use Snapchat, but earlier today my sister was on her phone using the potato filter and it made me think of that one Reckoners quote about the potato in a minefield. Literally all day long I've been thinking about this. Please help me. I've been trying to finish my homework but I keep getting distracted because my brain keeps imagining Megan looking at David like:

I've been watching the new Mandalorian episodes that come out every week, but I've also been rewatching random episodes of Cowboy Bebop. It's so strange because Cowboy Bebop is a show that I originally thought I was conflicted about, but now I'm weirdly addicted and keep coming back to it. I'm appreciating it a lot more than I did on my first watch through, and I'm glad I've been watching it again because the characters have grown on me so much. It also might be possible that I like it a lot more just because I'm in the perfect mood for shows about space bounty hunters

I mean, I'm 16 and haven't done either of those so I have absolutely no idea. I'd have to guess that, for me, driving would not be a benefit. My dad would probably send me to buy food for him because he doesn't want to do it himself.

Middle Schooler's Club
Flying replied to Bearer of all agonies's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
My science assignment was due online at 3:00 and it's 3:04 right now and I'm only halfway through. Do your teachers also make really specific due dates? Mine are always like, "Here's an assignment due at 2:15 and here's one due at 3:00. Also, don't forget about the one due at 5:00." And I'm just like BRUH, WHY DO YOU DO THIS!!- 174 replies

Single Pringles, Not Ready to Mingle
Flying replied to DramaQueen's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
I've only had three crushes my entire life. One of them was my best friend who eventually rejected me. The other two were cosmere characters. I can confidently say there is no chance of any of those ever happening. Especially if two thirds of that fraction are fictional- 754 replies

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Flying replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you're late to online class because you stayed up till 1 am reading Dawnshard. I'm only like 60% through the book because I have to do my homework every day before I can read, but I legit panicked this morning because I accidentally slept in and missed like 30 minutes of math class I feel like this is incredibly ironic because Monday this week I also posted here saying that my mom was mad at me because I planned to read Dawnshard at 1 am on a school night. I woke up on time on Tuesday... but today didn't work as well. -
I understand this, so you're not the only one who doesn't like gym. I think that if you're not good at sports, gym is just a bad experience in general. I also have Asperger's so I have some coordination issues along with my social issues. Because of this, having to play sports and socialize in the locker room was... not good. Despite my personal problems that make me somewhat of a target, I think that people in middle school can sometimes just be unnecessarily mean in general. I completely understand what this situation is like, and I'm really sorry people are acting like that. Just don't let them get to you. You're on the Shard, so you're already pretty awesome in my book. I hope you have a better day tomorrow

Mistborn was my first Sanderson book, and for the majority of the book I was pretty confused and didn't like it. However, I read it for the first time when I was 12 and the only other fantasy I'd read at that point was Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Lord of the Rings. I'd never really read a complex magic system, and Allomancy was probably not the first one I should've started out with. I think I eventually kind of understood what was going on towards the end of the first book, and I remember Well of Ascension and Hero of Ages made a lot more sense to me. In this case, it grew on me over time because I was 12 and it was a lot more difficult than anything else I'd read at that point. On the contrary, I read The Way of Kings for the first time that same year and somehow I understood that so much more. You'd think that I'd find it more confusing than Mistborn because of all the changing viewpoints, but I don't remember being confused by the overall plot at all. It's kind of fun rereading the cosmere with the perspective that I was 12 when I first read all of them. There's always things I didn't catch on to the first time because I was a lot younger and didn't fully understand what was going on. Especially with all the romances. I basically completely missed that Navani was flirting with Dalinar. I also don't think I really understood the Honor Chasm scene, but rereading that felt like a punch to the gut because I'd gotten older and better understood those emotions. So in a way I've kind of felt like I've grown up with the cosmere. I'm still only 16, but I feel like literally every story has grown on me a lot more because when I was 12 I was there for the cool magic and fight scenes, but as I grew up I also understood the characters.

Boys. Not ONLY boys, but... Boys.
Flying replied to Channelknight Fadran's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
I've heard people use "barrack", but technically if you google it there's tons of weird answers about how to use the word correctly. Honestly I've just given up and try to avoid using that word as much. -

Flying replied to Channelknight Fadran's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
Yes, there's so many instances in the English language where I'm just like WHY?? It's my first language, but I write fantasy for fun sometimes and every once in awhile I run into these weird problems. I use the word "barracks" a lot to describe groups of soldiers, and it frustrates me so much that barracks is both the singular and plural and you can't use barrack. Like I don't want to call a group of soldiers Barracks Eleven, I want to say Barrack Eleven. Also, who the heck decided to spell colonel as colonel. -
I love that song so much. I also like "Thus Always to Tyrants" by The Oh Hellos but I don't know if it has the same exact vibe. But it does make me feel like going on a magical adventure or something.

Honestly at this point Kaladin having an actual last name would be so weird to me. I'd be like, "You're telling me that instead of using the full name Kaladin Stormblessed I have to say a different name?" In all seriousness though, I don't know if we'll ever get one. A lot of characters in the cosmere go the whole series without us ever getting a canon last name. If it's not mentioned at this point, it probably isn't that important. Or maybe it's very important and Brandon is hiding stuff from us... Just kidding. Maybe. I don't know.

I got teary-eyed when Kaladin decided he'd turn his life around and start working in the stables. His deep love and care for the horses was so heartwarming.

Multiple times I've described Mistborn's plot as people eating metal and then I don't say anything else because people get really confused and it's hilarious. -

My friend did an art project on Shallan about four years ago and she had to explain parts of the plot to the class. She explained the differences between lighteyes and darkeyes and then this caused a bunch of middle schoolers to start fighting because of their eye colors. The kids with blue eyes were calling everyone else "peasants" and then the kids with dark eyes were getting defensive and getting into arguments. Good times.
