  1. Yes, you can join. Based on your description of yourself, you fit this thread perfectly We were talking about weird things we'd eaten, and Tesh mentioned the one time her cousin convinced her to eat grass. Then I thought about Rysn's pot of grass... and it led to me writing this.
  2. I got Tineye. I feel like that would be kind of fun, actually.
  3. I put this thing I wrote on our Discord server, but it was requested to also put it on the Shard. I wasn't sure where to put it, so I'm just gonna post it here for the other socially awkward bookworms who have either not seen it or don't use Discord. Also, without context this might be even more hilarious. (You're welcome, @AonDii)
  4. I think I'm more socially awkward at school than I am anywhere else
  5. Yeah, I'm also bad at writing action, so I can't really be the one to judge. If your intention was to show the thoughts more than the battle, then I'm sure that's fine. I also have really low expectations for myself and my own writing, so I understand that. But editing never hurts; it always makes the writing stronger. Also, who is your favorite character from the series?
  6. I upvoted this earlier, but I was on the Shard during class and couldn't write out a response when I first saw this. I read the Underland Chronicles a few years ago, and I honestly forgot a lot of it, but I think I have enough memory of the story/plot to understand what's going on. Overall, I actually don't think this is a bad attempt at trying to write Solovet's character. For a second I had to remember exactly which character she was, but your writing immediately helped me remember what her personality was like in the series. And this definitely isn't "one of the worst things [I've] ever seen"; that reward probably goes to some of my own writing Anyways, the one critique I would have is that there's a lot of parts that stop the action to recap things that the audience would probably already know (if they'd read the series). The parts where you describe the action are exciting, but then you'll stop the fighting/plot to kind of tell us how she got in that situation. And we kind of already know, mostly because the people reading this are probably the people who have already read the actual books. Again, I don't think this is bad. It probably just needs some editing, but I did find it enjoyable. And it's definitely interesting having the same story from Solovet's point of view instead of Gregor's. (Also, Ripred is best character )
  7. I am also writing something similar to the Dog and the Dragon, except halfway through I realized I was telling instead of showing... So, uh, I need to fix that. I also randomly laugh/smile at things in class, and people probably think I'm insane. Sometimes I'll laugh because a word in the thing we're reading reminds me of a cosmere reference or something. Writing fantasy in class is also really distracting, but one time I accidentally got my friends hyping me up because I wrote a thing in five minutes, and then they got interested in the story and wanted to know what happens... Anyways, this is the donut thread, so I'm just going to randomly give out donuts now:
  8. Online school is actually much better for me because I can write random things and no one will know I'm not paying attention to class. I used to try to write random fantasy stuff in class, but then other students would look over my shoulder and be really concerned when they saw me describing an assassin murdering everyone with a sword. Online school starts again on Monday for me though, and I'm not looking forward to it.
  9. My writing is also kinda messy, but maybe I could try to write something. No promises though; I have to do some assignments for school and might not have time
  10. I honestly want to see dinosaur donut poetry now... I'd write some, but I've never had one
  11. I didn't know dinosaur donuts existed... Now I really want one, because that sounds amazing. It's like dinosaur chicken nuggets except better.
  12. My dad is a teacher at the school I go to, and he used to buy a box of donuts for his class once a week. I was never actually in his class, but I always got to pick a donut anyways. I'm honestly hoping that once quarantine ends my dad will start buying donuts for his classes again
  13. Actually all of the songs I listened to the most didn't come out this year. I basically just discovered a bunch of old songs and listened to them obsessively, so I can't really have a list for all three of the categories. A lot of them also remind me of story ideas I have, and that's why I listen to them so much. My taste in music is also kind of random...But I genuinely believe these are all interesting songs. (I got carried away and explained why I like some of these. So, uh, sorry if that's annoying.) No order:
  14. I think a better question would be about who doesn't like donuts. Donuts are amazing and I love them. The only person I know who doesn't like them is my sister, but her opinions about food can't really be trusted that much.
  15. My copy of WoK honestly looks basically the same as the picture you posted. I've used it a lot and had it for a few years, and most of my mass market paperbacks also have damaged spines. I have hardcover copies that are in almost perfect condition, so it doesn't really bother me when the paperbacks are damaged. However, (although this isn't Sanderson) I will never be able to look at my copy of The Wise Man's Fear without feeling disappointed. The spine broke in half on my first read through and now pages fall out. I tried to fix it with glue, but that didn't work so now it's covered in tape. I can't even read some of the pages because I damaged them so much while attempting to fix the book.
  16. Wow.. umm, that's a lot of birthdays. It took me a second to realize that I was looking at the birthday list instead of the "who's online" list. A lot of them are probably bots or fake birthdays, but I was so confused at first and I love how chaotic this looks.

      Yeah. Poor mods.
      Storm curse this upvote limit!

  17. I figured out it was you pretty quickly. I confused a few people also though because I changed my display name on the Shard, and everyone was like "Who are you??" Anyways, I'm also new to Discord so now we can both be confused vampires.
  18. I've never read them or watched the movies, but I don't really want to. I've heard from my friends that the movies are unintentionally hilarious, but I'm not sure if I want to watch it just for that. My mom used to be a big fan when Twilight was the popular thing, but even she has kind of admitted that the movies weren't as good as she though they were. Anyways, I guess there's people who really like it (and that's great for them), but it's definitely not something I can see myself enjoying.
  19. I barely use Discord, but I still have an account. I'd probably join though. But I might be even more awkward there than I am here
  20. I don't try to make these long on purpose. I just get really excited about writing and end up writing the longest status updates ever. It was actually longer but then I accidentally deleted all of it halfway through writing it... Sorry again though :P (I put it in spoilers because it's pretty long, but it also explains why my display name changed, in case you're wondering.)

    Spoiler

So I've been wanting to change my display name for a while... I originally had Warbreaker_Weiss but then changed it to weiss_kwispies, and I've never actually really liked having my display name just be weird puns based off of my last name. I know what I'll change it to, but I wanted to give some context for the new one.

Anyways, I've had this one story/book idea for years but have never actually had enough motivation to start it. I kind of wanted to write more stories in the world I created, so Christmas break I've been writing one of the chapters that sticks out to me the most when I think about the books I eventually want to write. Right now I'm writing it as a standalone chapter/short story because I haven't written the rest of the book. I didn't really feel like waiting for other chapters to be written chronologically because I was too excited to write this one. I'm currently a little over 3,000 words in, and I'm not exactly sure how long it's going to end up being, but I'm having fun and writing it is really comforting.

It's basically a chapter about an in-world children's(?) story, and the fable is honestly kind of similar to stories like Fleet and The Girl Who Looked Up. It also has a ton of stuff that's important for my two protagonists' character arcs, and I just really love it in general. It's called Falling, Fleeing, Flying because there's three characters in the children's story that have those names respectively. They each kind of represent different ideas and reactions to pain/hardship, but Flying's character in particular means a lot to me (and also to my main characters).

I've decided that I love this chapter so much that I'm going to change my display name to Flying. Maybe I'll eventually let people read the actual story when I'm done writing it, but I'm not exactly sure if people will like it at all. It just means a lot to me personally and I felt the need to write it for myself, even if it's kind of boring and my writing style is honestly really bad. Also I don't know if it's just me being emotional, but some of the paragraphs in it legit make me cry. I'm scared to release it upon the world in case it ends up being a tearjerker (or even worse, fails to cause any emotion at all), but I'm determined to finish writing this thing.

Woohoo! I like it! And the part about your name! :)

  21. I picked Blue Lions because I have two friends that play as Black Eagles and Golden Deer. We kind of wanted to have each of us be a different house literally for no other reason than the fact that there's three of us and we thought having all three houses in our friend group would be cool. (I also may have picked Blue Lions because blue is my favorite color, but that's the less interesting answer ) I've never played a Fire Emblem game before this one, but I always use either Marth or Corrin in Smash so I decided I should finally ask for one of the games as a gift. I'm actually not that far into the game at all, but... WOOP!!! FIRE EMBLEM!!!
