  1. I haven't read Alone or Annabel Lee, but I'll read them. I've been wanting to read more Edgar Allan Poe for a while because I've liked what I've read of his so far.
  2. Maybe I'll read it then. I really like when stories have a lot of moral/philosophical questions, so I'd probably like it. My mom also liked it, and she barely reads, so it's probably good. (Mentioning "murder" is honestly the best way to try to convince someone to read a book) Apparently we all need to read Frankenstein now because Tesh loves it Also, have you guys read any Edgar Allan Poe? I had to read some for school a few years ago and I loved it. I wrote a whole essay on "The Raven", and "The Tell-Tale Heart" was so fun to read in class because we listened to an audiobook version and people's reactions were funny.
  3. No. I feel like I should though because Dracula is a character referenced in so many different things and I still haven't read the source material. I kind of feel the same way about Frankenstein. Dracula and Frankenstein('s monster?) are like two of the most iconic monsters and I haven't read the books they're from.
  4. Smash and MarioKart are the first ones I got too. This year I got Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Age of Calamity, and so far they've been pretty good games.
  5. Nice! Did you get any games for it? Breath of the Wild is still my favorite switch game and I got that for Christmas a few years ago.
  6. Most of the stuff I got this year were either clothes or gift cards, but I also got some books and a figurine that looks really cool. Here's the Mandalorian figure that I got. I put it on top of my bookshelf and I love it so much I also got these books. Now commences the annual chore of trying to find a way to fit them on my bookshelf.
  7. I feel like this could be said about Hemalurgy in general. I'm like, "Wow, interesting concept! But why did it have to involve stabbing people? "
  8. I technically already joined the vampire club in the other thread, so now I am here But the list describes me. Especially the part about staying up at night. I've been up till 2 am basically every night and it's really unhealthy, but I'm a vampire now so it's fine. Also, this is obligatory and needed to be said: People are friends, not food
  9. Yes. Please join the vampire club. I went with my best friend and her dad, and we also had at least 10 books we brought to be signed, so I don't think doing that is too bad. But yeah, I'm also really embarrassed of my book signing experience and hope I can meet Brandon again and not embarrass myself. I also sent him a thank you message when I was 12 and it was pretty badly written; I regret it to this day. But one of my biggest flexes is that he's my friend on Goodreads, and that means he actually looked at my cringey account and decided to accept the friend request anyways. The thing about consistency is also relatable. I hope that the people in my online classes never noticed that for a while I wore the same spider-man t-shirt every Tuesday. And the same Hufflepuff shirt every Monday. It became a routine for a few months and I have no idea why; eventually I stopped wearing those two shirts on the corresponding days, but it was weird while it lasted. I also have like the same seven t-shirts and jeans that I cycle through every week, and I never wear anything else. So I guess it could be said that I like consistency
  10. The worst crowd experience I've ever had is the one Sanderson book signing I went to. It was sad because I was really excited, but then I couldn't handle the crowd at all and ended up hating most of the experience. I got to meet Brandon, but I was panicked because of the crowd and might have embarrassed myself in front of him. I really like the YouTube livestreams because I kind of get the same thing as an in-person signing, but I don't have to be around a bunch of people. Also, I asked him how he comes up with fantasy swear words and he just paused for a second while looking surprised. I was one of the youngest fans there, and he was probably expecting a wholesome question. Instead I was like, "How do you make swear words for your books?" The backstory behind this is my parents don't allow me to swear, but I was running into a bunch of situations in my writing where I needed my characters to cuss. Long story short, I didn't get any really useful advice, but his reaction is still so funny to me.
  11. Yeah, I also get really grumpy. First I feel miserable and just try to ignore it, but then if it continues long enough I'll shut down completely and start to panic. I have the same reaction to crowds that I have to heat and it's really frustrating, but there's a certain point I get to where I just can't function any more. And hiking during the summer is also the worst. I always end up in situations where I have to do it, but I never enjoy it.
  12. I really like being cold. Heat, on the other hand, I can't stand. Sometimes I'll actually panic and feel sick because I can't handle the heat, and then my parents have to take me inside and calm me down. I hate when that happens because it's always when we're doing something fun outside, and then everyone has to take a break because of my weird reactions. When it comes to being cold, though, I've done a snowball fight without gloves on and barely felt anything. My hands were obviously reacting to the cold because I could see them getting red, but I couldn't really feel any of it. I also got hypothermia once because I swam in a very cold lake and couldn't tell how cold it was until I came home and my body temperature was too low. The more that I'm thinking about it, I'm noticing that my reaction to temperature is just really weird in general. Maybe I'm also a vampire.
  13. I haven't been as active on the Shard because it's Christmas break and I'm using this opportunity to read and write as much as I can. I have a few things I need to talk about because I'm excited and have no one else to share these things with :P (Also this might be really long, so you don't have to read all of it. I'm mostly rambling)

First, I am finally conquering my fear of Wheel of Time and have started reading Eye of the World. I'm like 50 pages in and I'm already daunted by the fact that there's so many books. This series is probably the one series that intimidates me more than any other... so this should be an interesting experience.

I'm also trying to write more fantasy and I've been attempting to focus more on the characters I haven't written about as much, and it's also been a very interesting experience. The character I've been developing the most is named Deceit and he's probably the most chaotic character I've ever created. He's immortal but got banished to the mortal realm literally because he's too witty and somehow managed to insult all of the other gods. He's so fun to write, but he's also incredibly distracting and thinking about him makes me burst out laughing at the worst times. I'll be with family or something, sitting on the couch doing nothing, and then start randomly laughing because I'm imagining Deceit doing something stupid.

Here is a list of some of the "stupid" in question:

    Spoiler

    • He has just discovered that the end of the world may possibly be arriving, and his immediate reaction is to raid a bakery. He then proceeds to give a monologue about how good muffins are while the other characters are panicking in the background. (Honestly, this would be an amazing epilogue. I'm very tempted to have the epilogue just be him talking about muffins while the more interesting stuff for the next book is vaguely described in the background. It'll be like, "Oh, look at that. The palace is now on fire. And it looks like Vashkril just got severely wounded. Anyways, this muffin is delicious." I'd be so frustrated if I were reading that, but the mental image is beautiful and I now need to write it.)
    • He gets a job as a storyteller and gets invited to a child's birthday party, except he picks stories that are too dark and ends up traumatizing a group of children. He gets dragged out of the room while dramatically shouting insulting jokes. He never gets invited to a birthday party ever again. (The mental image of this is also beautiful and I now need to write it.)

I'm sorry. This was very long and random. Please don't hurt me. But seriously, Deceit is the best character and I'm having the time of my life just imagining all the dumb scenarios that I could write him getting into.

To be honest, I was really bored and randomly decided to write this. Glad you guys liked it though :D

  14. One time in math class we were graphing data and my teacher was explaining outliers, so then the rest of the class period I was building a story in my head called Outlier. I eventually changed the title to fit the rest of the stories in my universe, but now a major plot point of my fantasy series is literally based off of something I learned in math class.
  15. When you somehow think that today is December 17th and are confused/disappointed because the livestream hasn't started yet, only to realize that it is only the 15th and all day long you were hyping yourself up for something that is actually in two days.
  16. I literally logged back on to correct what I said. I was like WAIT IT'S THE BREAD- But yeah, then I guess jelly would be more effective.
  17. Also you can poison people with jam. EDIT: I realized after posting this that the reference I made was incorrect and it's the bread that's poisonous. It's been a long day, my dudes. My brain is fried from writing essays all day long.
  18. My friend jokingly pretended like he was going to hit me with the WoR hardcover but then he accidentally actually did it.. I complain about it all the time too, but my complaints are justified because I wasn't being annoying or destroying books. Your actions are also justified
  19. Prompt: 12 Days of the Cosmere This looked kind of fun so I wrote something (although it's kind of stretching the prompt). I've never written fanfiction before, but this takes place during Words of Radiance. I would've made it longer, but I already procrastinated on an essay while writing this and need to actually do homework now
  20. I would never use the other two swords in a fight, but Sting is actually really sharp and might work reasonably well as a weapon. But there's also the problem of range and getting close enough to do any damage because it's a really small sword. I have been hit in the face with a WoR hardcover, though. And it hurt so bad that my eyes started crying against my will. So yeah, Stormlight books are also good weapons.
  21. The one nice thing about having been a socially awkward bookworm for most of my life is that the merchandise in my room is storming amazing. Also the swords are my backup plan in case someone tries to break into my house.
  22. Here's my Lord of the Rings stuff: (Sorry about the formatting, I think you'll have to click it for it to look normal) And here's some Harry Potter stuff that also looks really cool: I've been collecting these since 5th grade so I would like to note that I have bought these over six years and am not a crazy person that bought them all at once
  23. I have Anduril and Sting from Lord of the Rings, and then the crown is Aragorn's crown. I also have the sword of Gryffindor.
  24. I really wish I had a cloak. I have three swords and a crown, but somehow I don't have a cloak and that's very disappointing.
