You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Flying replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you eat a huge piece of chocolate and forget that the amount of caffeine in that thing is going to keep you up probably all night long, then you become happy because you realize you can read Oathbringer for hours while you're having trouble falling asleep. -

When you do your homework while listening to the Album Preview for the Kaladin soundtrack (This honestly doesn't really help me focus. I get too excited and start jumping around and throwing my pencil because I can't contain my excitement. I'm trying to do a science project right now and just listening to the music has drawn me back to the Shard.) -

When people are honking their car horns at each other in the mall parking lot on Black Friday and instead of screaming "hold your horses" you scream "HOLD YOUR STORMING RYSHADIUMS, PEOPLE" and your parents turn to look at you like you're crazy. -
Q: Why did the cover on the mass market paperback copy of Hero of Ages look so torn up? A: Because it was ruined. (Seriously, those mass market paperbacks get destroyed. I keep having to buy the same books in hardcover just so they look better on my bookshelf)

I can relate to becoming distracted while trying to read. It doesn't help that my dad decided to buy tickets to Justice League a few minutes ago during the time I had reserved for Oathbringer tonight. -

I'm on chapter 16 right now. Luckily, Thanksgiving break started today and my marching band season just ended. I see a few hours of reading in my near future! -
Lord of the Rings is really good. It's right next to Stormlight Archive on my favorite books of all time list. Have fun reading it!

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When you're about to march onto the field and perform your final show in the marching band season, and instead of panicking about your performance, your mind just comes up with a random cosmere pun and you have to hold back laughter so you're instructor doesn't scream at you for not staying quiet. Here's the joke that randomly came into my head: -

When you are frustrated at the blue sparkles on your marching band uniform because you know that if they weren't there you would look more like an Alethi soldier. When your P.E. teacher makes you run laps around the field and you pick the lane on the track with the number 4 on it. When your best friend has a look of terror on her face when she realizes that the books her dad has been obsessing over for the past few months are written by Brandon Sanderson. When you go on an airplane and, against all reason whatsoever, pray silently that Brandon is miraculously flying to Hawaii too and you can sit next to him on an airplane for five hours (Unfortunately, Brandon wasn't there. I got to sit between my younger cousin and my sister as they talked about Roblox and threw candy at each other while I tried desperately to read the last 300 pages of Elantris). -

When you go into Barnes and Noble promising yourself you're not going to buy anything, see the new Edgedancer hardcovers, and buy it even though you already have a copy of Arcanum Unbounded. -
What characters would you want to meet each other?
Flying replied to kiapet's question in Cosmere Q&A
I want Kaladin and Lightsong to meet each other because it would be really entertaining seeing how Kal would react to him. -

Mystery Project in Sanderson's Status Bar
Flying replied to Exalted's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I actually jumped out of my seat when I saw that there was a "mystery project" on Brandon's writing status and now my heart is pounding incredibly fast. I'm hoping that it's a cosmere novella, but I wouldn't mind if it was Alcatraz #6 because I've been wanting to read those books for a long time and need the motivation to get out of the "all I'm gonna do is read Stormlight over and over again and not pick up another book for a few months" trance -
Welcome to the Shard, Dmitrii! We're glad to have you here. By the way, which Brandon Sanderson books have you read?
-
I couldn't finish the Divergent trilogy as well. I'd been reading just Sanderson books, and a few Rick Riordan books for the past year and when I decided to read Divergent I hated it. I don't even know how I forced myself to read two of the three books.

I didn't think the Power Rangers movie that came out in 2017 was nearly as bad as everyone kept telling me it was. I hated the first book in the Divergent trilogy.

I love Brandon Sanderson's books for the obvious reasons, such as the characters and the magic systems, but I also have another reason. When I first read Mistborn, I was fairly new to being a reader and the only books I had really read without being forced to read them were Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, and Percy Jackson. I'd also recently discovered that I loved writing fantasy stories of my own, but they lacked creativity and the characters and worlds were very poorly developed. Then I read Mistborn, and something just sparked within me. It's hard to explain how, but exposing myself to Brandon Sanderson's books helped me make my own stories and characters a lot more well developed and interesting. My writing got better, and I realized I didn't have to use the same fantasy tropes a lot of writers used, which I'm particularly guilty of using myself. I stopped trying to copy what other successful writers had done in their books and just let myself write magic systems, even if they're crazy and earn me weird looks from the other students at school. My writing is definitely nowhere near perfect, but it's a lot better than it was when I first discovered Brandon Sanderson's books. I guess I kind of look up to Brandon Sanderson as a role model. He's the reason I'm not afraid of my ideas being too weird or crazy to be turned into a cool fantasy novel. I mean, who would have thought that a book about humans eating metal to access super powers would have been one of the best fantasy books they've ever read? I could write a whole essay on why I love Brandon Sanderson, but I should probably return to the one I'm avoiding writing currently

No Oathbringer Spoilers Support Group
Flying replied to thegatorgirl00's topic in Stormlight Archive
I was originally planning on reading the chapters as they were posted online, but I decided against it because I didn't want to torture myself even more by exposing myself to parts of Oathbringer and being forced to wait for the next chapter to come out a week later. It's just so much more satisfying being able to sit down with a copy and read the storming book for hours non-stop -
Fights you would like to see?

I'm curious to see how a fight between Vin and Szeth would go.
