But Spook was never even said to be dead. And here is WoB telling that there is more to the Spook story than already told. You do. Tbf we don't know fully how nicrosil Feruchemy works, but from WoB, it works the same as Copperminds. If you store powers in Nicrosilmind and didn't retake them, you won't have those powers anymore. WoB: While I do agree, it wouldn't probably remove his Mistborn powers from his spiritual DNA, and thus it still would be transferable to his offsprings.

I do love this. The more I think about it the more it fits. Like you point out, he is a Tineye, like Spook (his savantism was healed by Sazed) and wears glasses, which seems kind of useless for a Tineye. Mistcloak is another thing, yet Wax uses it as well. He is also very skilled in using Tin, more than usual Tineye. But there is more, his behavior is rather eccentric, and it fits Spook as well. After all he had flair for drama, he organized a revolt, placed himself as a new Survivor, jumped out of a burning house, went fully into bringing water back to canals, and to add even more, he stalked and then kidnap his future wife. That's a lot of weirdness. Then Jak shows he had extensive knowledge about Scadrial, like in his encounter with koloss - for someone who lived for almost 400 years it isn't surprising that he knows a lot. Jak also appears to be a Survivoris, like Spook. But powers are what's important. And here I think that it fits even more that Jak isn't full Mistborn. Why? We all theorized that Spook was involved in creating the Band of Mourning. What do they contain? All Allomantic powers. Where would they come from? Here is the answer - from Spook, he gave them all away to create the Bands and was left only with his original power, Tineye. Either Tin was provided to Bands by someone else, or Spook had double the tin or something like this. This could also explain why he was the Last Misbron, while having a lot of offspirngs And it fits even better, when you consider his longtime companion is Terrismen - Handerwym. He could be the last Feruchemist that provided all of his feruchemical powers to the Bands. Coppermind states that he might be a duraluminum ferring, so it could work like with Spook and his powers. For his agelessness, Spook could use the most common method in Cosmere, rather than using Atium, the same that Demoux does. After all, Spook ruled for a century after Catacendre. And to add more, I like the idea of Spook hiding in a plain sight. Just perfect. Everyone ignores Jak because of how Wax perceives him and his adventures.

I always understood that because Rashek used the power of the Well, he made himself an extremely powerful Mistborn, far above anything Lerasium could give you. It's confirmed by WoB (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/63/#e685). But it doesn't mean that Rashek didn't also use reverse compounding. There is WoB that might be about it, or just about how regular compounding works: So there is a way to reverse compound - use Feruchemy to fuel Allomancy, Rashek could use it and thus became even more powerful than he was, but his regular power was still above Elend's as it was granted to him with the use of the Well. To add to it, there is this WoB suggesting that hemalurgy was used to achieve the most dramatic effects:

It probably wouldn't do anything. What duralumin does is it releases all energy from metals you are burning at once. So if you have pewter for 10 min of burn, burning it with duralumin would release all of that in a single moment. Adding nicrosil to it, it would only cause you to burn all your duralumin in the same moment, pewter already released all of its energy so nothing would be added to it. Nicrosil works in the same way as duralumin, but it only targets someone else's metals.
-
No, it won't work like this. First of all, you won't be able to control anyone like hemalurgic constructs. There are no cracks in a person's soul for you to break through and assume control. Second of all, Bendalloy has nothing to do with it. Like not at all. What would bendalloy buble/energy do in case of emotional allomancy. Thirdly, you can't create emotions that the target doesn't feel. That's the most important lesson from Breeze. For example there are different types of anger, many of which don't cause homicidal rage. And lastly - because of the nature of duralumin, you release a powerful surge of emotion in your target. Human body isn't well adjusted for extreme emotions. People freeze in the face of overwhelming fear, faint from pleasure, collapse due to impossible guilt, or are unable to act because of extreme anger. This is what would happen. Extreme emotions would flood your brain and paralyzed you, overwhelming everything your brain is currently doing. There is no action your body would be able to take. And to add to it, the long term consequences would be far greater than what Straff experienced. Emotions shape our memories and feelings. Extreme emotions induced by duralumin+zinc would imprint on your brain like nothing before. This memory would be forever clear in your mind and cause you fear or discomfort every time you think about it - it would be like reliving it again every time you think about it, that's trauma. In a shorter time frame, right after an allomantic pull, this extreme emotion would still be felt by you, even when it’s no longer rioted, because of how your brain works and how fresh is this memory. And to add even more, duralumin lasts in a split of the second. you won't create a homicidal maniac, because he felt homicidal rage just for a split second, and only memory of this is left now. Edit: WoB

If you were a fullborn, what would you use your powers for?
alder24 replied to MangoBoi101's topic in Mistborn
Aluminum is electrically conductive, so as soon as they realize Fullborn can't push it, they will make aluminum tasers. And Aluminum is everywhere now it's just a matter of time. I also find it confusing what can be healed, and why tasers can't be healed. The normal voltage going through your nerves is in the range of tens of millivolts, while taser voltage is even above 1000V. That's 100000 times greater, it's far from being "normal". While nerves still do conduct electricity like they should. But wasn't stormlight healing lack of oxygen explained in a way that Stormlight is providing/replacing oxygen to your body (it's described like it in books and coppermind but I bet there is a WoB on this which I can't find now)? So how is it that nerves conducting high voltage is normal, because that's what the body normally does, and stormlight provides oxygen (instead of healing damage done by hypoxia) as this is somehow what your body should do? Oxygen isn't part of your body, but electrical signals are. -
Yes this is a big problem. What if the majority of energy is released into SR and just a small fraction in PR? That would work with stabbing a Fused/Spren, as their soul exists in SR, but with light reacting inside of a gem, not really, light is in PR. It still could be "sucked into" SR as it's investiture that's reacting and it involves SR.

That's ok, it doesn't have to actually exist, what's important is the effect it causes, just call it "virtual mass" and treat it as a real one for “calculations”. You're right. That's how you would describe it in Cosmere terms. It's magic after all, it doesn't have to obey physics. However what I tried to do is to describe the effects of Surges with our physics. Which is doable to some degree. Just like force of Gravity is carried by gravitons particles in quantum physics, but Gravity doesn't work like this at all, and there is no currently working and proved model combining Gravity with quantum physics, the same way we can describe how Surges work even if they don't work like that at all, but they produce the same effects as our approximations would do. And that's what I was aiming for - tweak our physics to produce the same effects as Surges do. Transportation can be easily explained by real physics - Alcubierre drive (warp drive) - you aren't moving through spacetime, you are moving spacetime around you insead. Physics of this work, if you can provide exotic matter. Cosmere has investiture. Huh, this gave me the idea - what if Lashings just tweak with gravitational constant? Force of Gravity is a vector, negative gravitational constant would switch direction of the vector to the opposite. Doing 2, or 3 lashings multiplies constant by 2 or 3 etc. It would work in directions up/down, not really for those forces pointing sideways.

Few problems - first, where would Kelsier get Lerasium from, as the last bead of Lerasium was used by Elend, and there was nothing left? The same goes for Atium - Marsh had the last beads of it. Second, Kelsier would try to use it on himself first, and from epilogue 4 it seems like Kel wasn't aware that it wouldn't work on him, as that's what Harmony told him - if he already tried this, Harmony would know and wouldn't have to tell him. It's possible that using god metal medallions could make you permanently into Mistborn/Feruchemist somehow, but I doubt Kel had access to any god metal other than Harmonium after Catacendre.
-
It's possible, yet not entirely. They have "seed of Feruchemy" in them, so while it wouldn't be common, weak Feruchemist or Ferrings could appear from time to time, but it's rather unlikely this happened. Kelsier didn't create Feruchemy, he gave them medallions which make them Ferrings, but they don't change their spiritual DNA, so it's not transmissible to their kids. I bet nicrosil compounding coppies what's in the nicrosilmind.

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
alder24 replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
Don't worry, me too! Yes, Lift has the most relatable motivation - food! Scandalous! But I'm jealous of Tress. It's beautiful. -
@IlstrawberrySeed If you want to stop RL, use chromium on it, it will leech investiture from it. Use primer cubes charged with chromium or aluminum which will kill it off. Those are the only confirmed ways for a Mistborn to prevent the use of the Surges. We know copper doesn't work like that. There are clear differences between copper and chromium/aluminum. Copper doesn’t even stop the usage of emotional allomancy - you can smooth or riot a target's emotions without even knowing that he is burning copper. Your hypothesis is based on wrong and untrue assumptions. It’s not scientific. Just to point out, one Nex-im has like a 7000 year long record of not being killed by the same person twice. Just saying.

Pure god metals can be burned by anybody. God metal alloys can't, like Atium-electrum, which was Era 1 Atium. Lerasium alloys are the only known example of this, as burning them makes you a Misting. However it's important to note that Lerasium effect of making you a Mistborn/Misting it's not its primary effect, and for someone who knows what he's doing, it would have a different effect.

Highstorm wind tunnel. Mist covered Kredik Shaw with ash fall where you're jumping on ropes and harness. Elantris escape labyrinth. Dueling arena with foam Shardblades and Shardplates. Sleepless insectarium. Hallandren Court of Gods themed hotel. Restaurant serving Horneater's cuisine. Purelake water park. Chasm roller coaster going through a Chasmfiend. Shadesmar beads rafting. Hemalurgic merchandise. Forest of Hell garden/park. And at last, for anyone injured - Taravangian's hospital serviced by silent gatherers.

While sniping the target at rest would be easier, he is still moving, breathing, scratching so he isn't staying still. Every single breath he takes moves his heart a little. Hitting a very specific part of a heart with precision from long range would still be a very difficult task. Possible yet highly unlikely. And if you are at a huge distance, then your sniper rounds have to be bigger, heavier with much more powder, to reach that target far away - if you want your spike (aluminum?) to stay in the target's body, you won't do it this way, as this round has now even more energy and would pierce through body like it wasn't even there. The same goes with shrapnels if you aim for control - they would just pierce the body fully. It might be the case. After all there is a reason why there is a threshold for hemalurgic control in the first place. More spikes, more cracks in the soul, easier to control - but will and mind of a victim has a lot to tell. Even with Marsh, it was Ruin who controlled placing the spike. With every other person, Ruin also influenced them, Vin's mum, Spook, Quellion etc. It's very likely the binding point is necessary for hemalurgic control.
-
Hmm that may be possible if tin spikes can store more than human senses. I believe it would make Seeker much weaker, but he will still be able to burn bronze, as you didn't remove his ability to burn bronze, only his sense. At very best, Seeker would be able to burn bronze but it would give him no effect and no sense at all, as you removed that, at worse, it's just temporary, as you take just the bit of investiture he gained by burning bronze, so he would be weaker or "blinded" for a short moment, but later he could use it as he used to use it - and you would gain temporary amount of bronze sense, fueled by investiture in the spike which would eventually run out. But these are just my wild speculations.

Feruchemy can be granted by the use of god metals (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/406/#e14146), and because during the times of first Feruchemists there was no Harmony, only Ruin and Preservation, and alloying Atium and Lerasium doesn't produce Harmonium (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/374/#e12145 and https://wob.coppermind.net/events/100/#e3640) it means that you can use just Atium or Lerasium to become a Fercunemist. I do think as well, that using Lerasium and its alloys as a metalminds could be a part of becoming a Feruchemist. So Lerasium would act like an unkeyed metalmind granting you ability, similar to how medallions work. When you store in it for the first time, you key it to your identity. Problem with just this is that Lerasium is not used up - by burning Lerasium you're using it to extend your spiritweb which makes you an Allomancer. Storing an attribute in metalmind doesn't use it. However maybe you have to first store an attributes in Lerasium, then burn it like a compounder would, tricking the system and instead of making you an Allomancer, it would make you an Feruchemist. Using Lerasium alloys this way would turn you into ferrings. Or to make a Feruchemist you need Lerasium-Atium alloy, not just pure Lerasium. That's at least my theory. About Harmonium, I don't think we have any indications that it can't be alloyed. It's a god metal, so it works a bit different than regular metals. Alloying it would most likely make it less reactive and safer to handle. But what are the effects of Harmonium and Harmonium alloys when burned - we have no idea. It can be anything. Probably when Harmonium alloys would be used with Malwish tech like primer cubes, e.g. Harmonium-steel would allow you to charge it only with A-steel or F-steel (if it can), similar to how Lerasium alloys makes you only a Ferring.

Yes if you want to steal or remove, it's like with allomantic metals, they have to be pure. For hemalurgic control I suspect that you also need pure metal, as anything that isn't pure, can't be a spike. People move, don't stand still. Especially during a gunfight. And considering there are like 4 bind points in a heart alone, hitting the correct one from distance will be a highly difficult task.
-
There are a lot of problems with hemalurgic bullets - first, they have a lot of energy and very high speed. Bullets will just go through a body every time. It's good for spikes from regular metals, when the target is a donor, bad for aluminum as it won't stop in a body and in the correct place. Then there is a problem with bullet density and susceptibility to deformation. Most bullets made out of spike metals would deform, change course or even shatter on impact to dozens of pieces, particularly when striking bone. Sternum is right on the heart, where most spikes must be placed to steal powers. Then there is a problem with hemalurgic decay, you need to find invested metal in the surrounding area, which might be very difficult, and coat it with enough blood to prevent it from losing power. It's not a lot but still significant amounts, as the inquisitors preferred to place a recipient right below a donor to avoid losing power. Overall I think that using bullets as hemalurgic spikes, as fun and powerful as it sounds, is just too impractical and unreliable. You would need to construct a special gun and bullets with a small amount of gunpowder, to ensure that bullets wouldn't get shattered or deformed on impact, and be slow enough to not go far and disappear in a surrounding area. In case of aluminum it will have to be even slower to just stop in a body. And if speed is that low, they might not be able to penetrate a bone, so it won't reach certain bind points. That would seriously limit the range of the gun, its accuracy and deadliness. But if you only care for hemalurgic control, then any piece of metal in a body will be enough. I don't think it needs to be in a binding point, as in books from Era 1 it was said that any metal in a body gives Ruin control, but hemalurgy wasn't that well understood back then. If no binding point is required, then constructing a bullet that would shatter on impact would give you all control you need. But if hitting a binding point is necessary, then this idea is not applicable, as hitting one would be highly improbable, and making a bullet shard stop in any binding point would be nearly impossible as precision is important. And it would still probably require an intent to place a spike in a specific binding point in the first place, so it becomes truly impossible. While using bullets as hemalurgic spikes is a great idea, coinshoters would be far better than a gun. They can control speed and placement better than a gun. Aiming would be very hard as hitting the correct spot with precision would be as challenging as with a gun. Still, it's too random to work, so it won't be used widely.
-
Intent matters. Without intent it's not a spike. Edit: I think that a simple piece of aluminum with intent to be a spike and correct bind point will "remove all powers" from the spiked person, as long as he has that spike. Aluminum itself can't be invested, so it can't hold a piece of someone's soul like a normal spike.
-
Yes, and the Yomen family are descendants of obligator Yomen, who crowned himself as a king of Fadrex in HoA. So it's the best evidence that Harmony did nothing with obligators. Noble families in era 2, like House Tekiel are also the descendants of Tekiels from era 1, proving Harmony did nothing to nobles as well.

F-nicrosil stores the ability to use investiture, not investiture itself. I'm not even sure if that's innate investiture, as is being Mistborn giving you additional investiture to your soul? It certainly gives you a connection to Preservation. But you can store Divine Breath (WoB), and that's innate, so it's one example at least. And storing investiture makes you invisible to Lifesense (WoB), like Drab are. And because Drabs have lower innate investiture levels than others, it seems like Nicrosil can store innate investiture which would hide you from Lifesense, so Scadrians should be able to store their fragment of Preservation as well. We have no WoB about storing kinetic/static investiture, I think. How would you store investiture that is being used? Static is more plausible, but I think abilities and innate are all nicrosil can store.
