Mistborn V.S. 3rd Ideal Lightweaver
alder24 replied to Wits instant noodles's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I just realized something while reading about Aviars. Aviars, like Kokerlii, hide the presence of a mind from predators hunting by sensing the mind. So what Aviars do is hide their cognitive aspects, and this is probably hidden in CR, because I suspect those predators partially exist in, or can look into CR, like sprens. This ability also affects other invested abilities of sensing, like coppercloud (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/312/#e8897). Because of how Aviar's ability is described, and how similar it is to coppercloud, I suspect burning copper not only hides people in the surrounding area from bronze, but it also affects CR, hiding the "flame" of people affected by a coppercloud. Which would mean that they would be unseen in CR, possibly even hiding some invested items, like metalminds, with it. Copperclouds could even literally manifest in CR, which I think would work even better, considering copperclouds can be pierced, like Vin did it. -
Most people don't think about a stick in the middle of nowhere, and yet it has a very strong representation in CR. There are millions of scientists, engineers and enthusiasts whose daily job is to think about those microscopic things. Living in a heavily polluted area makes you taste those dust particles. There are always news sites or tv stations about those things. There is enough awareness on Earth about micro stuff to create a significant amount of new CR representations. Is there a SoTD2 that I've missed? I see it sometimes being refrenced and I thought that it's just SoTD that i just don't remember well now. Good math. But range is also a vital factor in this. Revolver has a much smaller range than a rifle because of the bullet's initial velocity, mass and charge. Then there is a difference in material and its density used for each bullet. And depending on how WoB can be interpreted (1 bullet with steelpush, 2-3 without or something like that, tbf its hard to say as Vindication's bullets are bigger than normal ones), and the acceleration provided by a steelpush, it can still be very feasible to break a section of a Shardplate with several/dozen of M16 shots. And M16A1 has a caliber of 5.5 mm, increasing the caliber to 7, 9 or 12 mm, or whatever they are using in military would help a lot. And that's without bringing such monstrosities like GAU-8/A Avenger 30 mm cannon which would break down half of a Shardplate with a single hit (and you can't even try to change my opinion on this ).

I have to say I was not impressed with Thunderclasts during the Battle of Thaylen Field. Adolin alone was doing fairly well against one, and if all it takes to kill one of them is to shine light at it, I say they are pretty weak and disappointing. Now those from the Kholinar siege were just great and scary. But they were fighting just pikemen and walls, not Radiants. I love the image of Thunderclast knocking down towers and throwing huge rocks across the city. Heal armor? It's the same sprens that composed the armor in the fisrt place, that would draw in Stormlight and heal their physical form. I don't think they need new sprens for every damaged section of the Shardplate. In this type of discussion we usually assume both parties can leave their system with sprens and powers, they have typical access to a fuel (stormlight/metals) and stuff like this. It is more important to define the battlefield, as if this is happening on an open field, there is little to no metal there, and Mistborn have to drop coins, while in the city or urban area there are a lot of metal anchors for Mistborn to use.

Not if they are using connection to Dor and Elantris. Ire is an excellent example. They couldn’t do anything while Kel was tricking them and had to use jars of Dor. Elantrians rely heavily on local connection to the land, and the further they are, the weaker they get. TLM spoilers: That's how I read it as it clearly states it's a connection between characters. Jasnah picked up the palace bead because she had a strong connection to it - she lived there. Shallan picked up the same bead, because she has a strong connection to Jasnah. No Surgebinder has any strong connection to jets, vehicles or missiles on Earth, so they won't find it just like that. Jasnah's chapter in WoR, after assassination, when she fully transferred herself to CR, she had to find beads of ropes first. Soulcasting from CR requires finding beads. Shallan doesn't do it this way, she forms a connection with that object by touching it physically. Jasnah usually as well. They are doing it differently but when they are fully in CR, they have to find beads to soulcast. Again, there is more trash on the rivers on Earth, than beads in Roshar's CR. Each piece of trash has its own "bead" in Earth's CR. Good luck finding the rocket traveling Mach 5 straight at you that you've never seen before. And a more interesting philosophical question. Because we create new smaller objects, and can see much smaller objects as well, we think about them more often. Does this mean that we are creating cognitive manifestations of microplastics, dust particles or other smaller objects not visible to the naked eye? This would literally flood the Earth's CR to unprecedented levels. Much higher? Probably a typical modern automatic rifle would do the job, as it might be much more powerful than Wax's guns from more than a century ago. Every soldier in the world carries that type of gun.

That's interesting. Spren has something to say in judging if a knight is following Oaths and doing the right thing. Each Oath can be sworn with different words but has to follow a certain overall idea. Moreover Strormfather, even if he didn't like that, still accepted Kaladin's 3rd Oath, and even Syl said "you can't stop me if he says the words", so it looks like Stormfather doesn't have that big authority over the Oaths. This makes me wonder if, because of Ashspren's influence, Dustbringers will now swear a different kind of Oaths. Maybe they will be still following the same overall idea of self-mastery (but each one would be more vengeful and aimed to use their powers for destruction), or choose the new one, like vengeance or something. Stormfather would still have to accept those words.

They have health for sure, but different one. They are made out of Mistwraith, which have a lifespan of about 50 years. Kandra are not immortal, they do age. Kandra can be wounded, especially with acid, and they have to eat. They can heal too. What I think storing Health do for Kandra is slow down their ability to heal the wounds, create new tissue and new body

With this I will say it's possible. But it raises a question. How could an omnipotent being be shattered and killed? I see nothing wrong with calling Shards, Rashek, Kelsier or Returned a deity. Religion is more than just a powerful god, it's also about the idea, the moral views and guidance. Not every earthly religion even believes in gods - I think Buddhism is one example.

Why Taravangian has go through with…
alder24 replied to theSurgeOfPhysics's topic in Stormlight Archive
Because it's the agreement binding Odium the Shard not just the Vessel. Vessel provides only a mind to the Shard, Shard is a far greater entity than just a Vessel. Vessel is part of a Shard. And to add more, Todium has his own plans of "saving them all". Edit: It is like this: 99.9999% of the Shard is Shard's power (investiture), 0.0001% is a Vessel. So it is still the same entity after Vessel changes.- 16 replies

Because Set acts in secracy, from behind the curtain. Storming a place full of Ferring, with constables close by would be the dumbest thing Set could do.

Maybe I'm secretly a zinc ferring?

Matter literally is energy:

I'm sure of the number 300k at the end of HoA. But during FE I have no idea. I remember someone saying about small outposts of hundreds of koloss, or what hundreds of koloss can do (Clubs?) etc, but I don't know how much in total they had. I think Jestes took them all from a garrison near his hometown.Your numbers seem reasonable.
-
It is, in the same way that matter is energy in our Universe. Yeah, that could work if you manipulate the gravitational constant for each "distant" object separately. Planet for up and down, stars for every other direction. Who knows? The addition of Cognitive Realm and Spiritual Realm reminds me a bit of the String Theory, which works on 10-11 dimensions. Cognitive Realm would add 3 more space dimensions to 4 dimensions of Physical Realm. But Spiritual Realm would add 1? 0? I think 0, as that's a point. But what is a 0 dimensional place? Weird. But my 2 dimensional brain can't comprehend 11 dimensional Universe of the String Theory. Maybe Cosmere physics works like the String Theory, but we don't understand it yet because we think of it in too few dimensions?

I'm not going any further. This has nothing to do with Shards and their limitations. God doesn't have intent like Shards do.

1. Steel for making a morning routine very quick and with bronze for waking up really fast. 2. If you live on a high flat, or are in the high building store all your weight and jump out of the window to quickly get to the ground. Enjoy the faces of terrified people. 3. Tin for storing senses when they overwhelm you, or tapping whey you want to hear/see something far away. Store all your pain away. 4. Storing duralumin when you want to remain unnoticed (ticket control - free entry everywhere) 5. Making the night under a blanket nicely warm with Brass. With storing tin, and later bronze it would make falling asleep very pleasant. 6. Well as you said, you can use zinc+bronze+electrum for study, but why not "cheat" with copper? 7. Read every book, from every field to have basic or more knowledge and store it in copper. Like store everything in copper as much as you can. 8. If you're under legal age, store Atium to buy alcohol (heal toxicity with gold! - kids don't drink alcohol!!) 9. Tap tin for pleasure activities. 10. Tap duralumin to make new friends and connections easier. 11. Play with identity and aluminum, and chromium and fortune, it could be fun. 12. Make as large and full goldminds as you can, they will be useful for everything. 13. If you want to take the day off, store electrum, zink, tin, and every worrying memory in copper, and just make a very lazy day of nothingness. 14. Break the Guiness World Records in the longest and deepest freediving with cadmium and pewter. 15. There are probably some peeks unclimbed without oxygen tanks, so again with gold, brass, pewter, iron, electrum, bendalloy and cadmium, make your name forever written in history and claim those peaks. 16. Eat everything and store energy in bendalloy. 17. Tap zinc and chromium for critical situations requiring important decisions. 18. Figure out how to make medallions and give them to your friends and family so they can also live like you and have fun. 19. Making a meme with an olympic runner being overtaken by the cameraman a reality with a bit of steel. 20. Make a YT channel and waste your life pranking people with real superpowers. 21. Accumulate a crap ton of duralumin connection and run for presidency tapping it all on the day of elections. 22. Make sure to use your powers to prevent disasters, car crashes, accidents and save lives! Including taking cats out of the trees. Be a hero!

If this isn't because he doesn't want to do it (but still can), then by this definition Yhwh isn't omnipotent. The simplest explanation is that he has free will, he can do what he wants, and still be omnipotent. Just because someone swears to never lie doesn't mean that he isn't capable of doing so. Shards aren't like that. It's not like Preservation decided to never destroy, he just can't do it. Edit: bringing God/Yhwh to this discussion isn't good. I'm not a theologian, and you probably as well. This just causing unnecessary tension. Let's argue about fictional deities.

I could find more than Vwafendal saying that she knows only one steelrunner that could be responsible in SoS. But as you said, steelrunners are very rare. If they are in the Village, they are essentially out of Set range. Some might be in other Terris communities in the Basin, which would also put them out of Set's hand. I guess they just could find anybody else.
-
Probably not. Because of Connection. I believe that any Lerasium alloy could be burned as Lerasium forms a connection and rewrites spiritual DNA, but all other metals wouldn't be burnable without taking some few more steps. The same with Feruchemy.

That's the main problem with immortality. Everyone always chooses to be immortal, yet they forget that everyone they know and love will die. They forget that Cosmere immortality gives you drastic mental health issues. What's good about immortality if you will not only be alone, but also insane like many Fused or Taln? I don't want to live forever. I don't even want to be like Hoid. I love Awakening, I would love to have 60-70k Breaths and just push Awakening to the limits, explore everything that is possible, create the best Type 4 entities and just have fun with it.

[TLM] Democratizing powers on Scadrial
alder24 replied to ScadrianTank's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I like this, this sounds great. And the idea of giving the spike back to the person who was spiked is a great one, as this would minimize damage done to him by spiking him. I can see it being done like this. And they could also figured out a way to give multiple powers by one spike (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/221/#e7870), so they could limit hemalurgic control while still possessing many powers. And if they use purify Dor or unkeyed Stormlight for a fuel, they would all have the power of Rashek, which would be just awesome. They could also avoid identity contamination by giving Donors F-aluminum medallions, or giving them spike that grants F-aluminum so they can store their identity first and get spiked to stole identityless investiture. -
That's what Szeth is doing when killing king of Jah Keved. It's the bond to the Honorblade that gives you powers, not blade itself.

I haven't read Elantris in a while. Elantrians still can be killed and they can still die from natural causes. They rely on the power of Dor, they need constant connection to Dor and the city of Elantris, the further away from the city the weaker they get. Ire needs constant supply of liquid Dor. They maybe could connect to the local area with the help of some of this liquid Dor (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/100/#e3407), but if connection is cut, or liquid Dor ends, they will lose their powers. Without the ability to use their powers on Earth, so far away from Elantris, they won't stand a chance against Earth. Windrunners can't travel as fast as jets and missiles in the air. I've already explained it several times in this topic. Windrunner goes 200/300 mph, jet 1600, missile mach 5. No lashing can be done on them. Passenger planes move several times faster than Windrunners. They won't catch them. And all missiles have guiding systems to self correct course. Jets and missiles can lock on targets beyond the horizon with radars, and with infrared to the horizon, so they can lock on any Windrunner from dozens or hundreds of kilometers away. Dustbringer needs to run to the vehicle first, and they will not stay dormant or be alone - getting a tank shell in the face will not be a pleasant experience for a Dustbringer. 6 orders of Radiants won't be able to catch a tank driving away from them. For a soulcasting from CR, they need to first find it there, there is more trash in the Earth's oceans than beads on Roshar. Shardplates aren't bulletproof, they can be broken even by one to three bullets from Wax. Now give him modern automatic high caliber weapons, and Shardplates don't provide that much protection anymore. Radiants would rely on healing more than on Shardplate. They would die. They can be detonated by proximoty, radio, laser, optics, sonar, wire - there are magnitude of methods. Their target closing on them would make them explode. They have to touch it first. That's not that kind of Connection WoB is talking about. It's about Connection between characters not between beads that nobody ever touched. And Brandon says "You're not meant to read much into it". So stop reading much into it. WoB above. Shardplates aren't bulletproof.

Tbf I don't care. What limits does he have? The Bible clearly states multiple times that He is Omnipotent. Because Investiture is energy, and lots of energy concentrated in small space does curve spacetime, Investiture acts in the same way. It's a natural process, not divine intervention. You are still ignoring the fact that Shards can't do everything even if they want to. They have limitations. Intent is limiting their action. Ruin can't preserve something just because he wants. Preservation can't destroy something just to destroy it. They are limited by their intents which isn't self imposed. Mind and Vessel as well are limiting Shards. Shards can't act without a Vessel. They don't have the power to act. Other Shards also can limit each other. Investitng a plantet is also limiting their action as they can't just leave it. They have limits. They can't do everything. Pure Shard or a Vessel, both have limits. And by the definition of Omnipotence they can't have any limits, therefore they can't be omnipotent, as this requires no limits at all. You can still worship Shards as a gods, that's ok, by they are not Omnipotent. Period. Power is not just infinite energy - it's the ability to act! Again, that's by definition. If Shards can't act in a particular way, they don't have that power, they aren't omnipotent.
-
1. Honorblades, all surges, extreme power no comparison 2. Feruchemy is more usefull and possibly dangerous 3. Elantrian, but why not both? Why not become a Shard, do amazing stuff with it, and create a way for me to become Elantrian after I gave up the Shards. 4. Awakener!!!! I love it!
