I don't like seeing posts get "unfairly" downvoted, but I'm out of upvotes at the moment, promise to upvote you to even out the downvote as soon as I get them refreshed. Edit, nevermind I see someone already saw to it

I'm only up to page 7, apologies if what I say has been mentioned since then. There is a fourth person with a Rhysadium: Redin, bastard of Jah Keved I agree Graves was acting on his own as he thought Dalinar would become an ally if he became king of Alethkar. BUT I also think T sent him orders to keep Kaladin away from Dalinar and he complied believing he had been right but had taken too long, so Dalinar was now an enemy. On T working with Dalinar... I was never too fond of the Digram. After finishing the reread of the first two books my veredict until I see otherwise is thus: Mr T said it himself, at extreme points of intelligence and stupidity they become the same thing. Super dumb T can't rule, and neither can super smart T. On the day T did the Diagram he was so smart he was dumber than a doorknob. Expecting any true logic out of the Diagram is like expecting a child who never got burnt to know not to touch fire. Yes, every step of the Diagram is logical, but it completely lacks common sense. T thinks of the Diagram as his god, he isn't going to dump his god over some tiny changes like finding Urithiru! He will continue faithfully sticking to his god like a dog to a bone. He will come to Urithiru, and try to either pry appart Dalinar's authority or kill him at some point to try to get his power.

Haven't read the comments: Voidbringers going to kholinar. Except they aren't voidbringers, they are parshendi, hmmmm, interesting. Do you have the right to fight them if they are just slaves throwing off their shackles, no evilness involved? Adolin and Gallant, awwww Adolin thinking on his blade...I'm almost starting to wonder if he will try to give up his blade on his own as it isnt "right" to use the dead blades Renarin got the Blade already??? Whaaaa RENARIN HEALED ADOLIN, YAAAASH So Dalinar defeated a Shardbearer without his own Shards, should have put 2 and 2 together already, but somehow didn't So Sadeas was the voice of reason in the conquest of Alethkar? And then people wonder what is wrong with the kingdom freaking hell. I had read the spoilers, I knew what would happen at the Rift. But. Freaking. Hell. Can the Stormfather read his mind? Queen Fen, favorite monarch so far how is she alive though? Didn't Szeth visit her? Honorblade is out of the equation for now, wew damnation, Elhokar...damnation, wasn't expecting that. I think the Dustbringer theory just went up a few notches. I thought they were going to reach this point (Dalinar as highking or something) by the end of the book at best. Now in typical Brandon fashion its done by chapter 12 Tarvangian...trouble ahoy, sigh, poor Dalinar.

Alright, yes, its a bit harsh . I will rephrase. I find it very unlikely that Rosharans will get rid of dead shards in the short run, and possibly neither in the medium run. Part of the problem is about status. Do you see most of the alethi nobility giving up their symbol of power and status? The other is about survival. In the battle of Narak normal soldiers died like cannon fodder, and it was just an untrained group of Voidbringers, not even with thunderclasts or midnight essences. I don't see most people who own shards giving up a tool that makes them much more likely to survive a battle because the spren of a brightlord doesn't like it. Shards after all are the ultimate in property rights. Its yours, and no-one else has any say over it. Every single person who owns shards would have to give them up voluntarily, no lord or king has the authority to tell them to put them down. In the medium or long run though, maybe they could reach some agreements. However, unless there is a way to release the spren, the spren will suffer whether they are used or not.

I think Words of Radiance was mainly relevant for Shallan, who spent most of WoR hunting down a copy then got much of her information of the orders from there by the time they reached Urithiru.

[OB] The Heralds: Obsessed with the Divine Attributes
WhiteLeeopard replied to Argent's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm not sure if there is a pattern to their insanity. Each of them could have gone mad their own way, as they all had reasons to do so. 4500 years walking around, always hiding who and what they are, never living normal lifes (as becoming a farmer and raising a family would be a bit of an issue when their family dies and they are same as always), always lying to those around them, unable to leave Roshar (probably). Then add in that they betrayed Taln, and turned their backs on their Oaths to Honor. All of them had incredible pressures without even counting anything supernatural. That been said, I do believe there is something supernatural in their madness, just maybe it is not the only reason for why they all are bonkers. Think WoT, Rand didn't just go mad because of the taint, his situation pushed him along. However, I like the theory that their supernatural issues are related to their Divine Attributes (DA?), it fits with many of them. But I'm still not sure there is an absolute pattern to how they go insane over their attributes. -
Why did Hoid Seem Surprised when he first met Shallan
WhiteLeeopard replied to JayDeusMortis's question in Cosmere Q&A
There could be other reasons, but I believe the main one is that he realized she was a surgebinder. He hadn't expected that at all. Given his reaction I wouldn't be surprised if she was the first Surgebinder he had seen in millenia, but that is not confirmed. Hoid has an ability to go where he needs to be, but often doesn't know why. Something (luck, instinct, whatever you want to call it) had pulled him to Jah Keved, and when he met Shallan he realized he had ended up there specifically to meet her.- 9 replies

He would if it would save the lives of his men and friends. Granted, he wouldn't stand for no reason, but if it gives those he cares about the best chance of survival he would be at the head of the hopeless cause. I'm not sure he feels guilty of what he did. In fact I highly suspect he would do it all over again, as it needed to be done. He may regret the circumstances, but not the final action. He isn't admitting he did it publicly, or even to his family as it is a dumb choice. His father would lose lots of standing, and if he said it to his family Dalinar would punish him. Which would also have major negative consequences, from losing his right hand, to hurting his family deeply and showing not only he will not protect his family by dealing with the problems himself, but he will not stand by them when they do protect their family. I'm in the boat that thinks Renarin and Adolin love each other very, very deeply, and any such action by Dalinar would pull Renarin away from Dalinar. I even think Navani would be majorly pissed, as she views Adolin more as a son than anything else. Adolin likely knows all of this, as he understands his family quite well. Bravely proclaiming what he did is not courage, its stupid. However, its true he would likely need to face many of his fears (abandonment and perfection issues) before been suitable for the Dustbringers. Its just a path I see as open to him, albeit unlikely to be travelled. Final point...Adolin may not be the ideal soldier, but considering he has been groomed for it all his life, began training at 6, and started leading armies at 16, I suspect whether he is ideal or not will not matter. He should probably realize there are other things he can do, but I doubt he would ever leave soldiering behind.
-
There has been a little talk of Navani been a KR, mainly focused on fabrials, but yes not much. I suspect part of the reason the focus is on Adolin is he is a warrior. He is going to fight. And like I say above, chances of survival for normal humans even with Shards are very low during a Desolation. Not to mention one of Roshar's greatest warriors as a KR would be a huge asset on the battlefield. The question when considering what someone could do as a KR is often based on what they could offer as one. And then he is just a favorite of some, *cough, vehement groups, cough*.
-
Now, now, I did not specify , it would be all Adolin fans, and he has many here. But yes, yours would be the loudest ^^. Personally I would feel betrayed by Brandon, its never a good feeling when an author seems to betray his characters for plot devices. An I hope to never, ever feel that from Brandon. He always ties his stories so well, I have hope he never will. I think he'd also be good for the Stonewards. And yes, despite your dislike for the idea he could probably join the Dustbringers in the right circumstances. So thats 3 possible spren types.
-
Keep in mind this is just a fan theory, it might never happen. Although if Adolin dies or worse, doesn't appear, there will be a scream of anguish heard all through the 17th shard. The problem of many knights appearing are: Spren don' trust humans any more Humans don't have the mentality for the 10 orders en masse. Obviously can find some good people around, but the vast majority seem incredibly unsuited to be radiants. Full of hate, lack of morality, no honor, selfishness, no code to follow etc Still, I'm sure more knights will apear soon. But they may take years to swear the first ideal alone. The ones which have the best chances of advancing quickly are bridge 4, as they saw how it happened, and have a good idea of what is required of them. And yet, this greater understanding which they have was the standard and nothing special before the recreance. Which shows the bad shape rosharans are in vs odium in an immediate assault.

How are the heralds superior to the Knights Radiant?
WhiteLeeopard replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
With those contradictory WoBs, explanation could be: Heralds were 10 normal people, with no original innate power. After they accepted the Oathpact they gained some special abilities, and the Honorblades. Now even without Honorblades they still have some special powers, and are no longer 10 normal people. Even discounting that they are cognitive shadows. -
You should remember until BoM, most of the fandom here hated Steris too (not all but most), and thought Wax should end up with Marasi. Its mainly been after BoM that Steris became precious and anyone so much as frowning at her would get wacked repeatedly on the head with a broomstick .

Pssst. Its not sooo bad. We already call Stormlight Archive SA. We actually already know 2 of the interludes, saw them at various readings. I think its almost certain Rysn has one. 4 belong to the interlude novella. That doesn't leave too many more. I'd love to see a Herald pov, any herald at this point, but Shalash would be a plus considering she will be a flashback character in the back five books.

I doubt they will get rid of all the Shards, it doesn't make sense in any way. KR are much more powerful than Shardbearers, but even in old times they didn't fight alone. Rather nearly all of humanity fought. Battles in which 9 out of 10 people died. Shardbearers make a person much, much stronger and tougher than a person without them. They may not be as awesome as they were before the KR returned, but still a Shardbearer will have much greater chances of surviving the Desolation than a normal soldier. True, the spren are suffering, but they have been suffering for thousands of years. A few more decades won't kill them (any worse than they are). Then, they have no clue how to release them. Only theory I believe of the ones I've seen (other than revival, which we know is very hard) is destroying them with Nightblood. Which I'm not sure is an improvement. As for not using the Shardblades, when you have them lying around and the spren will suffer all the same, that just seems dumb. The spren may not like seing Shardblades used, but in war some distatesful things are done. If the worst they have to do is use dead Shardblades to survive, they can count themselves lucky. Please remember knowing a KR increases your chances of a spren choosing you. This specially applies for tight knit families like the Kholins. As maxal said, saying someone can't be a KR because they are a Kholin seems a weak argument. They'd basically have to be unbroken or incompatible with all orders. I think this idea that having "everyone of this family be a magic user is unbelivable" are thinking of other magic systems where magic tended to be semi random, or at the least uncontrolled. Thats not the case here. A spren chooses someone. Then if successful other spren looking for a bondmate come to check out their friends and family. If they are already close to important events thats a plus.
-
Considering how ultra valuable they are (were?) I could see someone picking up the Shardblade and going to the other side of the world. Set yourself up as a high noble with a Shardblade in a kingdom on the other side of Roshar, and might be far too long before they are found again. By then the topic likely wouldn't matter.

Thats a really good post. However, I believe the problem was in having Elhokar be the heir in the first place. If Dalinar had become king after the death of Gavilar, its quite likely he wouldn't be nowhere near as personally advanced (bonded to Stormfather) as he is now. But its quite likely the kingdom would be a lot more solid. Do you see Dalinar as either Blackthorn or current Dalinar letting the highprinces behave like they do for long? Part of the reason things got so bad was that he was letting incompetent Elhokar rule (or unrule) the country until the Tower. If Gavilar had just been a highprince, following Alethi custom Dalinar would have become highprince (as it happened) and Elhokar would have been completely ignored as he couldn't get anywhere close to enough support against Dalinar. The mistake was trying to change from a rough democracy (the one with most support gets the title) to a monarchy via a weak heir. I despise nearly every part of Vorinism, and Alethi law by extension. But how they pick highprince is one of the few things to which I see the merit. Heir, and if the heir isn't strong/smart enough to do the job it goes on to the next person. It may lead to some ruthless people in charge, but at least they are capable even if hateful .

I have the feeling the interlude novella will be Moash, something for which I'm not too thrilled. Then again secret society info (maybe we should just shorten them to SS) is always appealing.
-
The Windrunners could have lashed the Stonewards so long as the Stonewards were not drawing in stormlight. Higher investiture makes it harder for other investiture to affect them. Szeth couldn't lash Kaladin during the fight as they were both drawing pretty heavily on stormlight.

How are the heralds superior to the Knights Radiant?
WhiteLeeopard replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
Its clear the Heralds had some enhancements in addition to the Honorblades. But even if they didn't, I bet they would still be revered. They were the first, they gave the warning, they fought every single Desolation. That last alone would be enough to worship them. Mistborn spoilers Ways to be famous: Abilities Deeds With deeds likely been more important in the long run. -

Stormlight reread - things to look out for
WhiteLeeopard replied to Extesian's question in Cosmere Q&A
From what I understood from Argent it doesn't even refer to Renarin, just something random, which applies to Renarin but you can't see it if you aren't looking for it ^^. Like the ardents measuring the spren could be the hint for all we know. -
Nice, hadn't see that WoB before. About Roshar, I wonder how long it will take our main characters to move to the East. The world is too big to stay only in Alethkar.
