I think you understimate how much growth he had at the end of WoR. He is not going to be thrilled at having blue eyes, but I don't think he will hide it or be ashamed of it for long. He did sort of agree to no more hiding and accepting what he is. And he clearly separated he Captain from the Radiant as two different lifes. Of course that may just be me wanting to read more maturity in him . I agree abdication is sounding better the more we go on. Technically Adolin is already in charge of the armies, and Dalinar would likely continue using his clout as having the Kholin princedom behind him in politics. Basically would be usurping some of Adolin's authority instead of Elhokar's. But Adolin will mind a lot less than Elhokar, and he has no wish to deal with the political side of highprince in any case. Or could just be one more reason to send Adolin to deal with Kholinar as highprince, while his father stays in Urithuru so the power usurping is not that obvious. For the other part...yes, before humanity united but stayed separate. BUT, before, the heralds arrived to unite humanity, AND the time between desolations was brief enough that uniting was not such a chore, as they remembered. This time unity will be a nightmare, as such ironically they may need to be forced to become 1 (or something along those lines) while before an alliance was enough. I just had a vision of Roshar in 5000 years going on strikes for spren rights .

I suspect (no evidence, just a feeling) the Nightwatcher liked Lift, and wanted to give her what she asked for, but since it was so strange she couldn't or didn't know how. Or if she just asked not to change, maybe the Nightwatcher felt forced to hijack the request as she knew it wouldn't be good for Lift in the long run. She may give something close/related to the original request in most cases, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is her personal choice, and not something she is forced to do. Didn't they say frivolous requests were punished?

I thought they might have a spanreed, but it isn't certain. Although I assumed if they did, it would be connected to either Kholinar or Sadeas' capital.

I really like this. One of the best floated theories of boon/bane of Dalinar. But maybe it wasn't quite for the pain to stop, but to become a better man. For the same reasoning you gave: take out some of the worst things, and you become better as you aren't mired in guilt and the past.
-
Yes. But he could have also become a good strategist, a good commander, a good economist (Sebarial style), a good politician, a charismatic person, he had many many options, not just sword bashing. That been said, I'm neutral about Elhokar. I don't think too highly of him, but he can go either way for me at this point.

Nice. And any answer on the Moon Scepter? Although I'm still not sure how she could Forge out of Sel, which takes away a lot. Forging was one of the most fascinating systems. -
Totally. Will drop this part of the conversation in mistborn spoilers just in case. Back on topic, I did also snort when I heard of Hesina writing to Sadeas administrators about Kaladin. "Yes! He is a runaway slave! Return immediately or you will be executed on the spot. And no, not even 100 diamond spheres is enough of a price" "Storms son, why are the highprince Sadeas administrators so obsesed with you?" "..." Kel is my favorite character. I'd love it forever, might even cheer up Kal with his insane cheerfulnes. Unfortunately a sociopath and a windrunner might have some issues. I kind of have a dream that Kel could be the God-Priest of Tukar. Because...religion+god+fanatics-Shard= Kelsier Alas, its very unlikely.
-
That would indeed be fun . But unless Kaladin grows up a lot in OB, not sure he has the control and patience to pull it off. Although according to Syl his glares are already perfected, so 1 tool down. I believe you mean (Mistborn era 1)

For all we know Shai could be looking for Hoid in Sel itself, and not Worldhopping. She was understandably angry at him for leaving her to fall prisioner in their original heist. -
I think Dalinar will gain standing in some areas, lose it in others. But he will have to learn to pick his battles and his path fast. Kaladin never had patience for lighteyes politics (he avoided them like the plague in WoR, even assigning others for guard on parties and political meetings with anyone not of the inner circle). I don't foresee him having any extra patience after accepting his Radiant position. Add in that Windrunners can't even lie much (Syl frowns even at simple misdirection from him) and I doubt he would hang around Amaram much. Specially as it would be like playing Russian roulette for Amaram, considering Windrunners are not constrained by laws, just by "what is right".

Don't believe it much, but nice theory. Have an upvote. On normal times I'd agree. But Urithiru and KR don't count as normal times. Yes, I know highprinces are still politicking, but come on, they are entirely dependent on the KR to get supplies, and their people in and out of there. When Dalinar starts finding his powers...the faction opposing him will either dwindle or get very desperate. Probably both. (I'm just talking of those directly inside Urithiru at the moment). Just thought, maybe Shallan hasn't said a peep so far as she is really tired since she will most likely be on perma-oathgate duty. We saw in Adolin pov people keep coming from the SP. And lending out Pattern, while possible may not be something to be done lightly.

I really enjoy your posts . I hadn't realized how much standing Amaram might lose for having enslaved Kaladin and stealing his Shards. I guess because I'm used to thinking of Alethi laws as sick and twisted, with no real hard lines nor justice. But you brought up a good point, stealing Shards may be the one true taboo they have. Then again, in true alethi fashion, the only reason why they may believe the claims is because Kaladin is a KR now, back when he was thought to be a jumped up darkeyes no-one would have believed a word of it. Now...maybe, guess we'll see. However, I disagree on Amaram not wanting the princedom, SoH are about power and influence. Its why they stole Kaladin's Shards in the first place. Getting Amaram as highprince would be quite a coup. Ialai, so long as she gets revenge will probably be happy to do anything. Edit, your answer to my above questions was the best and most detailed one, thank you.
-
Thats a popular theory. Alethi becomes highprince if they can convince enough people to call them that. Considering Amaram is really popular, and he said of Sadeas "they had an agreement", its entirely possible he can be "elected" highprince. Ialai is not that important, other than her behind the scenes power (meaning she doesn't have any automatic rights or position by been a highprince widow). But her spy network is considerable, as such an alliance/marriage with Amaram is not impossible. On that line...I wonder how Sebarial managed to get chosen highprince, considering Alethi just respect brute strength.
-
Hihihihhih. Details a tiny bit off, but not by much. At the highprince meeting when Shallan arrives...you can't say Sadeas didn't have plenty of time to reverse course.

Vasher could just have been stretching his literary muscles for practice/fun. And to start the Nalthis storyline. Nightblood...is Nightblood! -
I have a couple of questions, so thought might as well write them here. What is the highest rank a darkeyes can get in the alethi army? Which is higher, sargeant or squadleader? Was Dalinar already highprince when Gavilar died? As Gavilar been King and Highprince would be all sorts of awkard.

[OB] If you were to read one other Cosmere book...
WhiteLeeopard replied to Tarion's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm not so certain, as Brandon is trying to keep the Cosmere as separate as possible, so readers aren't forced to read it all to understand. Worldhoppers add flavor for people that have read it all, but aren't necesary to read to enjoy. With so many secret societies in Roshar I bet people just reading SA would say, "another group of weirdos, man, Roshar has them a sphere a dozen". Warbreaker is an exception because it was written specifically to introduce Vasher and Nightblood for SA. And I half wonder if Brandon has Warbreaker free on his website because he doesn't want readers to feel forced to buy all his works to understand one. About Sel...remember Sel is harder to reach than most planets, and that most magics (including forging) stop working once you leave the right area of Sel, much less the whole planet. Which is a pity. Forgers in the Cosmere would be so badchull. -
TWoK. Dalinar isn't sure his visions are real, or if he is going insane. He wants to abdicate, but Adolin convinces him not to. So they reach the middle ground of giving Adolin a writ that gives Adolin the authority to depose Dalinar as highprince, and become the new Kholin highprince, if for some reason he thinks Dalinar is going insane and losing his capabilities. p.s. I think the writ was approved and signed by Elhokar too. Just reread it, but also terrible at searching chapters and pages.

Probability: unlikely. Alethi lighteyes go to war together, man to lead and fight, woman to write and politick behind the scenes. If Laral had married Amaram its almost certain she would have gone to the camp with him, and Kaladin would have seen her during his 4 years serving there. Amaram been there is also very unlikely as 1. He was doing Son of Honor business last time we saw him, and on his way to Urithiru I believe. 2. He was entirely focused on Taln, helping a 4th league forgotten town would be at the bottom of his list of things to do 3. If he had been in the town in the past 5 years I bet his parents would have (respectfully but insistenly, they were 2nd nahn after all, couldn't just be brushed aside) asked about their sons in more detail, and Amaram didn't remember Tien from a lost chull, and likewise forgot about Kaladin 5min after branding him and stealing his Shards. 4. If Amaram is there, he will not know Kaladin's new public status, would try to kill him as revenge for been the cause of losing so much influence on Alethkar/Dalinar. That would give Kaladin a chance to claim by killing him he was protecting himself. Amaram would drop dead 10 secs after proclaiming for Kaladin to be executed, and that would be a rather abrupt and anticlimatic end to Amaram. (Not that it wouldn't be fun ) On Laral been the voice Syl hears, maybe.

Eh, my reasons for not talking much of Elhokar is I don't care too much for him. There are characters I talk a lot about because I love (Adolin, Kaladin, Szeth when the topic pops up). There are characters I talk about because I hate, (Moash, Amaram). Then there are characters I just don't care much about, so I don't think too much on what they may do as I'm not curious about them, Elhokar is at the top of that list. And sadly Shallan for me is a bit closer to that list than to others too. I'm dreading when we will get her sample chapters, as I will regret not having anyone else that week. Shallan is actually a hard character for me, I have no clue why I haven't warmed to her. I like her scenes, I like what she discovers, I like her powers, I like her in a soft way...so whats my issue with her . Only good reason I can think of is that she gives too much a sense of invulnerability, anything she does will go perfectly, with no obstacles, and such characters are just boring. Its confusing when you don't understand yourself why you feel a certain way about a character .

Don't. Care. Betray friend (for vengeance/negative emotions no less)= scum Circumstances don't matter, guilt doesn't matter. Betray friend, deserve a random off screen death. Sadly I suspect a redemption arc incoming. Logic often doesn't come into it. After all, every darkeyes kid game is about pretending to win Shards, all had that dream. Rock's relative, or lord, whichever it was did the same thing, etc. But yes, was quite dumb reasoning. Edit: I combed through the coppermind and found why the 4th darkeyes number may have appeared. Apparently they speak of stories of 3 named famous darkeyes who won Shards. Lanacin the Surefooted, Evod the Markmaker and Raninor of the Fields. And yes, Moash is first in generations
-
Ohh, where is this info? Don't remember it, but would be awesome to knowthe number.
-
I never liked Moash. In TWoK he was a problem. In start of WoR he was like a mad dog snapping. In the end of WoR...HE BETRAYED A FRIEND, THERE IS NO GREATER CRIME, DIEEEEEEEE. Upvotes are truly becoming a problem. Maybe I can reread thread on weekend to give upvotes I couldn't already. That I was out today by 10 in the morning says it all .
-
Oh trust me, I'm the last person here to defend Moash. I've written some posts saying how despicable he seems to me, and how I hope he falls off his horse and breaks his neck, or some other ignominious death. Alas, I don't think that is going to happen. I would rank him and Amaram at similar levels of contempt. I never bought Amaram For the Greater Good spiel. Oh, I'm sure he believes it. But its simply just for greed and personal gain and glory. For The Greater Good: HP

I'm actually not sure if he has actually ever killed anyone, even in battle. You mean Roshone in the flashback? Eh, he is in his own little category . Overall I truly believe Dalinar is the biggest murderer of all the protagonists. Although I'd accept an argument that Shallan could be worse as it was her own parents. Dalinar wins on brutality hands down though.
